The story
When Mister Donut’s new “Sichuan-style Spicy Addictive Mala Noodles” came up on the October 19 broadcast of “5-ji ni Chuu!”, Matsuko Deluxe instantly shot back, “I would never eat that,” revealing that she always sticks to the same go-to order. That set off a lively 5ch debate that had nothing to do with the new product — French Cruller vs. Angel French, whether Old Fashioned dough tastes different than it used to, and everyone’s own personal Mister Donut staples.
10/19 (Mon) 8:51 PM
TV personality Matsuko Deluxe (53) appeared live on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Chuu!” (weekdays at 5:00 PM) on the 19th, where she talked about her “ordering philosophy” at the famous donut chain.
The show covered news that Mister Donut’s new menu item, “Sichuan-style Spicy Addictive Mala Noodles,” was generating buzz, but Matsuko flatly declared, “I would never eat that.”

What people said
Calling it "conservative," but doesn't Old Fashioned just taste different from how it used to?
I used to love it, but at some point the recipe changed and it started tasting cheap, so I'm not into it anymore…
Also Pon de Ring feels hollow now, doesn't feel like you're really eating anything.
The co-op shop donuts (seikyo, campus/workplace co-op stores) taste better.
On par with Kabuki-age (a popular soy-sauce rice cracker snack).
if I did, I'd go with the classics too —
French Cruller and Pon de Ring.
That's just how it is at any chain, honestly.
I end up ordering the exact same thing every time now.
She's at least a notch better than that.
so her hesitating on her third pick? Yeah right.
And yet I keep buying the new stuff anyway.
Keep getting cocky with that line and people are gonna start hating you.
It's Angel French, obviously (´・ω・`)
If I'm taking it home: one of every one of those, plus whatever else catches my eye.
Actors in both Japan and the US use it to bulk up for roles.
but do they still have the Cinnamon Donut?
Old Fashioned is my favorite, though it's actually pretty high-calorie.
If it's bad, I'll personally refund you every yen.
Every single location near me makes a bad one.
They ruined Old Fashioned by making the dough all fluffy.
The old dense, crumbly texture was so much better.
Angel French is the obvious choice.
Go apologize to Hamada.
Obviously the unrefrigerated one was better.
People say it tastes the same as the top-selling Pon de Ring, but I actually hate Pon de Ring.
And it was me — a guy who hates Pon de Ring — who got hooked on Mocchurin.
The unrefrigerated kind, of course.
Opposite for me.
I think Pon de Ring is great but wasn't into Mocchurin.
Just comes down to taste, I guess.
I hate Pon de Ring too.
But it's the most popular, so I guess a lot of people must genuinely like it.
That's basically why I don't go to Mister Donut much.
I just figure it's a different world from mine.
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
The original article is about Matsuko Deluxe’s remarks on her ordering style, made when she was asked on “5-ji ni Chuu!” about Mister Donut’s new “Sichuan-style Spicy Addictive Mala Noodles.” The thread quickly abandoned that new product and turned into everyone sharing their own “go-to order at Mister Donut.” The debate split along two main lines: (1) whether French Cruller or Angel French fans have the more “normal” preference, and (2) nostalgic complaints that Old Fashioned and Pon de Ring “don’t taste like they used to.” There’s almost no discussion of the new product itself — the thread’s real content shifted from the mala noodles in the headline to a debate about how classic donuts have changed over the years, which readers might not expect from the headline alone, since it reads like a new-product report but isn’t really about that. Note that some posts touching on Matsuko’s body or age were excluded from this writeup, as they amounted to personal insults.
*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geisuposoku+) thread “Matsuko’s Mister Donut order is “ultra-conservative”: “French Cruller, Old Fashioned, and…” “Doesn’t eat dim sum or pie”.”
