Morning Musume Newcomer Ishikawa Kano’s Singing Wows Fans: “Is a New Ace Born?”

From our other sites

The story

In footage aired on the October 2, 2026 episode of Hello! Pro Station, the voice of new Morning Musume member Ishikawa Kano became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Despite being given zero singing parts, her vocal ability stood out so much that posters reacted with surprise, saying things like “giving her zero lines is a glitch” and “she’s way too good for someone with no experience.” The thread debated the gap between her lack of singing experience and her actual skill, as well as how singing parts are being divided up among existing members.

It's wild how a successor always shows up right when Oda is about to graduate
Like how Habu Yoshiharu declined just as Fujii Sota rose
Like how Ichiro declined just as Shohei Ohtani rose

She can sing this well and they're giving her zero lines? That's got to be a glitch
Meanwhile there are seniors way worse than her

Re: #6
The other two are so hopeless that Ishikawa's getting caught in the blast radius
11AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:24
Non-non (Ishikawa's nickname) is way too talented
Incredible at both singing and dancing
13AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:25
Re: #11
That's practically a setup for her getting bullied

Re: #13
They'd been bringing in no-skill members for ages, so suddenly dropping in a skilled one throws things off like this — if they're going to keep adding skilled members, the generation above her needs to be stacked with skilled members too, or it just doesn't balance out
19AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:31
"Finally, a kid who can actually sing joined!"
20AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:31
Homamei hell averted, yesss!! (a mocking nickname for a pairing of members whose singing was seen as weak)

Re: #20
Mei-chan's voice might be an acquired taste, but Okamura's voice is the kind that appeals to everyone, right?
21AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:31
She's got a face that's clearly going to get cuter
If you guys are gonna hold back, I'll make her my top oshi (favorite member)

Ishikawa's movement right here is amazing — her head stays completely still while everything from the neck down ripples
27AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:36
It's great that her voice isn't muffled — it cuts through clean, really satisfying to listen to
28AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:37
I hope they raise Non-non carefully without overworking her
Oda and Reina have freakishly strong voices, but watching Ai-chan and Morito-chi struggle makes me feel bad for them

Turns out Yasuda can sing better than Suzuki
35AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:42
Oda's only "good" by Morning Musume's standards anyway
37AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:43
I want to hear Ishikawa sing a full song solo
38AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:43
Once Oda graduates, let's bump up Kano's singing parts
42AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:46
The crazy thing is Ishikawa has zero singing experience and still pulls this off
43AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:47
I wonder if they actually explained why they're sidelining her on vocals despite this
55AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:54
Re: #43
Singing-part allocation doesn't track with skill anyway — even Ishida gets a ton of lines
44AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:47
Singing is talent
Experience doesn't matter
45AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:48
I think Yuumi barely had any singing experience either, if I remember right
46AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:48
Do trainees get recording experience, or does that vary person by person?
49AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:51
Best "that" the group's ever had
She's got real punch
51AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:52
Not sure about Yasuda, but Suzuki's got star quality
They need that since the lineup's full of plain members
52AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:52
They should've waited one more year and brought in Nemoto and Kishida instead
Seriously, they're way too short on members who can actually sing
54AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:53
Re: #52
Nemoto looks like she's under 140cm and Kishida's 145cm — are you sure that's the better call?
53AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:53
Suzuki actually did well on the assessment test too
57AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:55
Sugihara — dance, outgoing type
Yasuda — the face execs would love
Suzuki — visuals
Ishikawa — dance, singing
58AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:55
Suzuki's only real problem is she's fatally bad at remembering stage positions
She's not actually terrible
though she does walk into the wrong spot
60AnonymousOct 2, 2026 19:59
Re: #54
Is that a problem?
It's not like they only recruit members for good looks

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In Hello! Project, including Morning Musume, fans have long tracked how singing parts are divided up song by song (“uta-wari”) as a measure of a member’s popularity and growth. New members usually join after a trainee period, but singing experience varies a lot from member to member, and many are selected mainly for their dance ability. What divided opinion in the thread was how much of an inexperienced member’s skill can really be judged from a short clip in an official video, and whether it’s fair to suddenly cut back an existing member’s singing parts. Note that, as of this thread, management has not given any official explanation of how singing-part decisions are made or how members will be used going forward — this remains fan speculation.
