The story
Tetsuya (32), leader of the popular YouTuber group Tokai Onair, revealed his newly completed home in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture in a YouTube video, sparking a huge buzz on 5ch. Users marveled at the mansion’s opulence — a vaulted-ceiling entrance hall and a room housing a life-size Spider-Man figure — while others chimed in guessing at the construction costs and the garden’s upkeep. Tetsuya, also known for marrying former AKB48 member Minami Minegishi, even drew some “who is this guy?” reactions early in the thread, revealing just how much his name recognition varies by region.

The YouTube dream is real, wow.
All I know is he's the guy who married Minami Minegishi.
You racked your brain trying to look like you don't know him, and that's the best you came up with? Lol

That entrance is insane.
If you don't hire someone to maintain this, the weeds will take over in no time.
You'd need at least 10 cleaning staff just to keep it livable.
Not jealous in the slightest.
No way it's just 250 million.
Look at the size and the quality of the materials.
Apparently a single pane of glass in the entrance hall from Re: #8 alone costs 5 million yen (~$34K).
I'm a Tokyoite so I wouldn't really know.
I've only ever seen those names written down.

In Tokyo the buildings around you are so tall, and utility poles are always in view, which kills the mood.
But in Aichi, even a single-story house doesn't have other buildings crowding the view.
That's really nice.
At a glance that structure looks like it'd be done for the second it rains.

He even built a Nobita's room (from Doraemon) — you can really feel how much room to spare he's got.
Apparently this life-size Spider-Man is built to actual scale.
So cool.
Lol.
This is exactly the kind of thing that makes Tetsuya impossible to stop watching.
Did he actually get permission from Fujiko Pro (the rights holder for Doraemon)?
If he didn't, that could turn into a pretty serious problem…
If anything, young people should take note — assuming Tokyo is the only place you can make money is the wrong mindset.
He's got tons of locals who cooperate with him and even became a tourism ambassador — it really was the right call.
That kitchen is way too cool….
Even making instant ramen in there would look good on camera.
The talent Orin went back to Aomori too, didn't she?
It's been about 3 years since I stopped watching Tsuriyoka — wonder how Hata's doing these days? 🥺
Makes sense it's become a dream job for kids.
Still, they've been doing this for almost 12 years now.
Along the way there were brutally tough challenge videos and even a stalking incident that involved the police.
It's not like they casually posted fun videos and just ended up living in a mansion, lol.
Re: #105
That's not a dream at all.
It's just demonetization strike after demonetization strike.
Even this offhand camera angle conveys how spacious it is.
It's a genuinely tastefully built house.
It doesn't have that typical nouveau-riche vibe rich people's houses tend to have.
If I ever got rich, I think my house would turn out way tackier than this.
The taste isn't really all that great though.
It feels like design sense from 20 years ago.
If he was going to spend the money anyway, he should've gone all in on a better design.
Guess it's fine since he can just throw money at the problem, though.
Like that fridge built flush into the kitchen wall — what's he going to do when it breaks 20 years from now?
My parents' place is stupidly rich too, and the lightbulbs are mounted so high you need to call a contractor to change them, so we just leave a burnt-out bulb alone because it's too much hassle lol
Yeah, and with built-ins like that you can't even redecorate.
I genuinely regret putting in a wall like this.
Cleaning it is way too much of a hassle.

Apparently this is what a mansion belonging to the super-rich in Ashiya looks like.
At this level it's probably north of a billion yen (~$6.8M)…
Apparently Kansai's luxury neighborhoods sit out in the suburbs, about 30-40 minutes by car from Osaka — up on the high ground at the foot of Mt. Rokko in Hyogo Prefecture, looking down over views stretching from Osaka to Kobe.

Background and Talking Points
Tokai Onair has been based in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture since 2013, with Tetsuya serving as the leader who comes up with and drives the group’s video projects. He’s also known for marrying former AKB48 member Minami Minegishi in 2023. It’s worth noting that the figures thrown around in the thread — construction costs, land prices, even the price of a single pane of glass — aren’t official numbers, just estimates users pieced together from photos and rough price-per-tsubo math. The main point of debate was how to judge the strategy of staying based locally instead of relocating to Tokyo: many commenters praised it, arguing that being rooted in the region is exactly what let the group build cooperative ties, like being named a local tourism ambassador. Others countered that living in Tokyo isn’t always a personal choice — often it’s just where the work is — so the debate over whether basing yourself outside Tokyo is truly the better move doesn’t land on a simple conclusion.
