And the ending, where they lose partway through the national tournament, is really just a cancellation ending dressed up as a finale.
A manga that does nothing but explain its rules forever.
Idiots read this and go "whoaaa, so deep and complex!" but it's really just cluttered.
And even after you painstakingly decode the clumsy explanations, the author keeps retroactively bolting on new rules, so it all feels like wasted effort.
Bring up the plagiarism accusations first.

And nobody seems to question why, right when the new arc kicks off, it suddenly turns into a rushed digest-style tournament where some random middle-aged guy who just showed up wins — that bizarre ending somehow never gets criticized.
In the end it was a manga propped up by fujoshi who only cared about the hot male characters and ignored the story entirely.
It's a mystery why the author gets hyped up so much online.
Fans: "A story that alternates between the future and the past — amazing!!!"

Every development and exchange exists purely as a setup to deliver a "Don!" sound-effect punchline panel, so the buildup drags on forever.
Reading this manga feels like watching an endless loop of a Dacho Club comedy skit (a Japanese comedy trio famous for a repetitive running gag).
