Ugh, what a pain (´・ω・`)

Re: #3
Can't be helped. I'm allergic to rice, vegetables, and fish, so Japanese food is a total no-go for me. I can only eat burgers from A&W, McDonald's, or Burger King.

Re: #3
Huh? What is?
There's nothing you need to do about this at all.
What exactly is such a pain here?
5AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:28
Her parents probably fed her crab as a baby, before her digestive system had fully developed.
6AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:28
Just the smell of garlic drifting by makes my lips tingle and feel swollen — is that an allergy?
20AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:36
Re: #6
Apparently that is an allergy.

Re: #1
What would happen if she ate crab ramen?
16AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:33
Just the smell of capsaicin makes me sweat like crazy.
Just smelling peperoncino being made at a pasta place has my scalp pouring sweat like a waterfall, like I just took a shower.
I actually like spicy food, but I can't eat it at restaurants.

Re: #16
Same here.
Just picking shishito peppers in my garden makes my head start sweating.
18AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:34
Komeo (whoa… I really need to watch out for this)
23AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:37
If steam or smells alone can trigger it, would the smell of dried-up bugs lying around in midsummer set it off too?
33AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:40
Re: #23
I've got over 100 allergies, and moth scales are one of them, so just having a moth nearby sets me off too.
24AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:38
It's like being a reverse super-spreader.
Reacting just from being in the same space sounds rough.
25AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:38
Here comes the trendy crab ramen キタ━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━!! (an excited "here it comes!" internet exclamation)
26AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:38
Crab sticks are actually made from fish paste lol
So if that's giving her a crab allergy reaction, she's definitely putting on an act lol
66AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:55
Re: #26
Some of them do use crab extract though!
27AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:39
Crab cream croquettes, huh
I get reacting to the smell of boiling crab, but

is crab stick a problem too?
Someone who knows, fill me in
42AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:46
Re: #27
The smell of boiled crab gets me, but I've never once gotten itchy from crab sticks.
79AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:59
Re: #27
If it uses crab extract, it can happen.
28AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:39
There's no actual crab in crab cream, right?
29AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:39
Eating bread gives me constipation 🥺
43AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:46
This show's allergy segment is a real hit format.
It even produced that allergy elite Kano, who spent 300,000 yen getting tested.

This guy's with the show.
Advertising.

My mom suddenly developed a soba allergy
and can't go to Japanese restaurants that serve soba anymore.
Even without eating any, the steam alone triggers an attack.
What really surprised us was when I went to an authentic soba shop and came home — apparently it had gotten on my clothes and body, and my mom, who was just at home, had an attack from that.
Ever since, soba shops are off-limits for the whole family, and if we absolutely have to go, we head straight to the laundry and bath the moment we get home.

Re: #51
Doesn't she have an EpiPen?
If it's gotten that serious, that's worrying.
53AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:48
There's no crab in crab sticks.
56AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:51
Re: #53
"Crab extract," derived from crab shells and the like, is used to create the crab flavor.

That's probably it.
60AnonymousSep 16, 2026 17:52
I can't drink either, but just having someone drink next to me makes me feel sick.

If I had a wheat allergy on top of everything, there'd be nothing left I could eat.
Guess I'd have to survive on meat alone…

Tortillas for every meal, then.

Ogi from the comedy duo Ogiyahagi said he loves crab and had been eating it for decades, but always broke out in hives afterward — until one day it hit him: 'Oh, I'm allergic to crab.'

Eating a lot of something can sometimes make an allergy suddenly kick in out of nowhere.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nippon TV’s “The! Sekai Gyouten News” allergy-testing segment has drawn big reactions before, with episodes featuring detailed celebrity test results becoming hot topics. This time, the focus was on cases where symptoms appear just from inhaling a smell or vapor without eating anything — and there are indeed medically documented cases of people reacting to vaporized compounds from things like soba broth, alcohol, or garlic. Where opinions on the thread split was over “crab sticks” (kanikama): while they don’t actually contain real crab meat, some products add “crab extract” for flavoring, and the easily-overlooked fact is that people with crab allergies could unknowingly eat it if they don’t check the ingredient label. There was also a story like Ogi from Ogiyahagi’s, who happily ate crab for years before suddenly developing an allergy — a reminder that food allergies can also appear suddenly later in life.
