The story
The 18th “anti-thread” for Detective Precure! is still going strong on 5ch’s anime board. The main complaint: lead character “Arcana” keeps getting favored in transformation sequences and team attacks, while the other three members barely get any cooperative screen time. Fans have also reacted to the toy design for the combination item, which pushes buyers toward a “black version” upgrade, and to scenes where characters Ruruka, Shushutan, and Mashutan come across as “rude” or “annoying.” At the same time, some posters argue that “kids will honestly drop a show the moment it gets boring,” while others point to marketing pressure ahead of the upcoming movie release — making this more than just a pile-on.

Two middle-aged women hijacking the lead role! Bumbling Detective "Crap-cure"! (a mocking pun combining "Precure" with a Japanese word for "crap")
Plus there's zero sense of connection between the members.
Seriously, Anmiku feels like a totally unneeded character.
Re: #24
Because the show never explains why the four of them need to team up in the first place.
Isn't Arcana just standing in Mystic's position?
Just how far does this Arcana favoritism go?
I came back starting from episode 9, the Shiruku episode.
Figured the show would've gotten its act together by now, more or less.
But watching Arcana Shadow's first transformation through the Eclair arc and White Kana, it's all just convenient excuses to show off the transformation bank.
Nothing but disappointment.
It's not just since episode 1 — for every season, I post the negative takes here and save the positive ones for the main thread, that's just where I've settled in (though this year, I might've actually liked the early anti-thread best).
For Precure, I've done this since the original series and continuously since Tropical-Rouge.
For Kamen Rider, I've been doing the same thing ever since around Kabuto.
They actually watch, feel, and decide for themselves, unlike brain-dead otaku who approve of everything.
Arcana wasn't even around for the first cour, and the toddlers already sensed the show had no real enthusiasm for Anmisu and wrote it off right there — impressive for little kids.
Meanwhile the otaku are thrilled over a Makoto Jewel illustration, gushing 'the two of them eating eclairs together is way too emotional!' — otaku really are easy to please.
Not that there's anything wrong with enjoying it on your own terms, though.
There's something nice about that pure, unclouded eye for quality that only comes from innocence.
Kids can spot good content with almost cruel precision,
and there's no room in that judgment for other people's opinions or theories.
Adults just can't compete.
It's less that it's boring and more that the overall vibe feels off.
Arcana takes way too long to even show up early on, and the story goes untouched for a while after — so even if kids end up liking Arcana, they've already tuned out by then.
My guess is it'll be an arc where the former Eclair candidates purify the Phantom crew.
There's conveniently three of them, after all.
Is there really that big a role left for the characters who were just Eclair red herrings?
I keep seeing fan works pair those Eclair red-herring characters with the Phantoms too, and honestly I don't get it.
There are even people shipping Niji and Rei together, which confuses me even more.
Haven't Eliza and Agesenu barely had a real conversation, though?
Won't they probably power up Anmiku next month too, to set up the final form?
Parents are going to be furious.
Once you buy the black merch, the old one's useless, and the kid's just going to want the new one too.
Even when they try to frame it as an item the other three use too, not just Arcana, the combination attack still kicks off with Arcana handing power to the other three — not, say, Answer calling out to the team — so it's still very much Arcana-colored underneath it all.
Is it fun illegally uploading content people are supposed to pay for?
This ranking's gotten totally reeking of "yuri-pig" energy too, hasn't it (slang for fans obsessed with girls'-love shipping).
Starting next month, Wasu and Serma look likely to break into the top spots — can the current leaders hold them off?
Getting treated like this right before the movie isn't even funny…
It's genuinely become reality that the movie is going to give her more to do than the show itself.
Has there ever been a full-team transformation, excluding irregular cases, that didn't start with the lead?
According to the die-hards, going last is actually an honor — which makes zero sense.
Even when the Nyanpuri cat squad was being pushed hard in Wonderful Precure!, the transformation still started with Wonderful, didn't it.
'It's promo season, so everyone has to shout Detective Precure! together at the end, which means Anmisu has to go last…' — sure, but the moment they didn't design the transformation sequence to end Anmisu → Ekuso → Arukasu, that already tells you who the "true" lead (lol) really is.
Given the recent pattern, this just reads as corner-cutting to me.
Even comparing the black and white versions, the black one has more frames, the Tulip Bazooka has a noticeably lazy background, and even accounting for the show's general art style, the characters barely move.
The final roll-call is basically just tacking a bit extra onto the lead's (lol) usual "te-te-te-te-teh-teh-teh" transformation cue anyway.
Well, it's not like anyone's life is actually on the line.
Nasty personalities, honestly.
Shushutan's likability is already low, so that scene genuinely irritated me.
Buddy, you've got less presence than Gouemon.
Shushutan's just plain annoying, honestly.
I seriously wish Shushutan would just disappear.
And Ruruka completely ignores him even after he covered for her Phantom betrayal, never even thanking him — how rude.
The past doesn't just disappear, Mashutan.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion
Every year, the Precure franchise ties its transformation items and finishing moves directly to toy sales, and the tendency to prioritize the lead character’s screen time and transformation order has repeatedly drawn criticism across past installments. In this thread too, complaints centered on the fact that the four-member team attack lacks convincing buildup while the story keeps revolving around “Arcana,” and that the transformation sequence’s fixed lineup never changes. At the same time, the view that “kids judge a show’s quality without any deference” is a familiar 5ch line of reasoning that treats toy sales as a proxy for children’s opinions — but it’s worth noting this isn’t backed by actual sales data. Likewise, the like/dislike reactions toward supporting characters are reactions to how they’re written in the script, not evaluations of the voice actors themselves.
