Romancing SaGa 3 Remake Sparks Reactions — 5ch: ‘All I Remember About Minstrel Song Is the Yamazaki Masayoshi Opening’

The story

The announcement of a remake for “Romancing SaGa 3” got longtime series fans fired up on a 5ch (Livedoor VIP) thread. Topics included the strong reputation of the previously released “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” and reports that the producer had shown enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well after 2’s remake launched. On the other hand, opinions on the character graphics were split — some said “the flat, same-looking faces bug me,” others felt “Harid’s design lacks any edge” — and fans traded views on the remake business model itself.

(´・ω・`) All I remember about Minstrel Song (the SaGa 1 remake) is the Yamazaki Masayoshi opening song

Re: #11
デンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレ (mimicking the opening theme's melody)
ヘエーエ エーエエエー
エーエエー ウーウォーオオオォー
ララララ ラァーアーアーアー
there's also that one, you know
12AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:29
I've never played Romancing SaGa — is it any good?

Re: #12
The Romancing SaGa 2 remake is seriously worth recommending
17AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:32
Re: #12
It's a systems-heavy game, so it depends if that's your thing
That said, Minstrel Song (the Romancing SaGa 1 remake) is probably too complex a system for a SaGa newcomer, and while the latest one, SaGa Emerald Beyond, has genuinely fun battles, it's too battle-focused as a whole game. So the Romancing SaGa 2 remake still feels like the perfect entry point into SaGa.

Remakes are nice and all, but please put out a brand-new SaGa game — one with an actual field you can walk around on and dungeons you can explore.

Re: #16
After the 2 remake came out, the producer said he wants to put out a 3 remake too, and more after that, so something's probably already in motion
Kawazu also said something a few years back about wanting to do Romancing SaGa 4 too, right?

It'd be so exciting if we get to see the snowman fairy Boston rendered in Revenge of the Seven's graphics
79AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:23
Re: #19
You can see the snowman and the fairy in the PV (trailer)
81AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:27
Re: #19
The snowman was smaller than I expected, and cute
21AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:33
Romancing SaGa 2 just didn't click for me at all
I couldn't get attached to the characters
28AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:40
Re: #21
Same here
The flat, same-looking faces bug me
Those guys look like androids
44AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:55
Sara was cute, but I wonder if she's sitting out the final battle again this time too
46AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:57
Re: #44
The Boy too…
I heard Sara's the only one who can recruit the Boy, so I picked Sara — and then he leaves the party right before the final boss… why…

The demo for the HD-2D FF Resonance is getting really good reviews
58AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:31
Re: #50
I don't expect anything from Square Enix anymore
Might not even play it if it lands in the PS Plus free lineup
53AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:26
Enough with the remakes already
How long do they plan on making us play games from the early Heisei era?
54AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:28
Re: #53
You don't actually have to play it, you know?
59AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:34
Re: #53
Then don't play it, that's a pointless thing to say
63AnonymousSep 10, 2026 08:48
The guys aren't all that cute, huh…
Though I do quite like Harid
86AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:14
Re: #63
Honestly, I thought Harid's design was really bad
It's got zero rugged charm at all
67AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:03
In the 2 remake the Seven Heroes teamed up on you, but in 3 everyone fights solo, so that's a relief
69AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:05
Re: #67
Hard to say

If you leave four of them alive in the Abyss, the final boss changes form, so being a remake, they'll probably do something with that
70AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:14
Feels like Baimei's going to turn into an adorable nyan~ (cutesy cat-sound) pretty girl
73AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:16
Re: #70
There's probably some way to change her look, like a de-aging potion lol
82AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:28
Just please don't bring back that embarrassingly lame triple-hit finisher move
100AnonymousSep 10, 2026 11:25
Re: #82
Yeah, that was pretty lame lol
85AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:02
Seems like the Professor and Paul's girlfriend will end up joining the party
93AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:32
Re: #85
Volcano's a possibility too, huh
87AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:16
The original story was what it was, so they're welcome to add as much extra material to it as they want
109AnonymousSep 10, 2026 12:06
Re: #87
Glad to hear they're restructuring the scenario

103AnonymousSep 10, 2026 11:34
The 2 remake recreated the Seven Heroes' original poses — I want them to do the same for the Four Fiend Lords
105AnonymousSep 10, 2026 11:51
Re: #103
Probably will happen — Byunei struck a pose just like that in the PV
111AnonymousSep 10, 2026 12:30
Buff up my mainstay Ward already
Actually, just buff greatswords in general
116AnonymousSep 10, 2026 12:36
Re: #111
You always recruit Ward, right?
And you always hand him the Ice Sword, right?
141AnonymousSep 10, 2026 14:18
Re: #111
Once I got the Smash mastery skill, I took it off him
113AnonymousSep 10, 2026 12:32
Please recreate the elephant holding a shield with its trunk
132AnonymousSep 10, 2026 13:16
Re: #113
That should be a sword in the trunk, not a shield

Background and Talking Points

Two main talking points emerged from this thread. The first was the merits of remakes themselves: comments like “how long do they plan on making us play old games?” drew pushback like “you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want to” and “then don’t play it” — a back-and-forth that laid bare the split over the remake business model itself. The second was how fans are receiving the character designs: when turning Super Famicom-era pixel-art characters into 3D models, opinions differ on how well the results balance faithfulness to the originals. Some were harshly critical — “the flat, same-looking faces bug me” — while others were delighted by faithful little details, like the snowman fairy Boston. The thread also touched on reports that, after the release of the second remake, “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” the producer expressed enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well, fueling hopes for the series’ continued expansion. Note: the terms “Seven Heroes” and “Four Fiend Lords” mentioned in the thread refer to the enemy factions appearing in Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 respectively — worth flagging for readers unfamiliar with the series.
