Daisuke Hori, a self-proclaimed “short sleeper” who says he only sleeps 30 minutes a day, has announced a continuous 24-hour livestream running for 7 days starting September 10. However, the rules he published were lined with exceptions: the stream ends immediately if a clip surfaces, he won’t wear a sleep-detecting “smart ring,” and there will be several hours of stream downtime during “training sessions.” On 5ch’s “Nanimo Jikkyo G” board, opinions split over whether all these exceptions actually undermine the point of proving he doesn’t sleep, and the thread spiraled into alternative proposals covering everything from how he should bathe to how he should be monitored.

・The stream ends immediately if a clip surfaces
・I won't wear a smart ring — wearing one wouldn't reflect my normal daily life, since I don't normally wear one
・There are daily training sessions with clients, and since I can't reveal the methods behind the sleep-improvement program, there will be a few hours of stream downtime

His eyes look puffy?

Re: #7
Nice try, hater.
My son has the same eyes too, so it's just how he was born.
8AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:35
It's supposed to just be him filming his daily life, yet he's putting in a crazy amount of prep for it.
9AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:35
So many restrictions, it's like he's about to do something special.
10AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:36
Maybe he should wear the smart ring for a month first to make it part of his routine, then start streaming?
11AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:36
He's not actually trying to prove anything.
Well, of course not.
12AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:37
This is basically him announcing "I'm going to sleep."
There's no way anyone could survive on 30 minutes of sleep a day for 17 years anyway.
He'd be dead of heart failure within a year, guaranteed.
13AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:37
He could just talk through audio while he's in the bath.
14AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:37
Couldn't he just wear swimwear in the bath?
And he should wear the smart ring too, since it could actually prove he's not sleeping.
68AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:05
Re: #14
That's not part of his normal routine, so it's an automatic no.
15AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:37
He's definitely going to claim he's "in a program" and sleep — he's clearly ready to shut the stream down over any excuse.
If wearing a smartwatch isn't part of his normal life, then neither is a 7-day livestream.
17AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:38
Taking a bath six times a day just to wake himself up is ridiculous.
That's just wasted time — he should just sleep like a normal person.
18AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:38
I'll have him clipped sleeping in no time.
87AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:23
Re: #18
If push comes to shove, I bet he'll leak the clip himself from a burner account he's got ready.
20AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:39
Three hours of sleep would already be impressive enough, but he goes and says 30 minutes lol
21AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:39
A clip has been found that could be used as an excuse. Stream cancelled.
23AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:39
Honestly, they should just have a few no-nonsense judges tag along with him.
Someone like Mizoguchi, Mikiya Takasu, or Shibata (Japanese YouTubers known for calling out sketchy claims) would keep him under just the right amount of pressure.
25AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:40
Just say one line: "Stream will pause overnight." That's all you need.
26AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:40
If it's really just an everyday routine, he should be able to finish with room to spare — it's strange how tense everyone's being about it.
27AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:40
If nobody clips him, worst case he'll just upload the clip himself during time he's off-camera, claiming it was during a "training session."
28AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:40
At least wear swimwear in the bath.
Don't let us down here.
29AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:41
Well, the hate from his antis is probably going to get even worse, but hey, go for it (・∀・) *smirk*
30AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:41
With rules like these, I bet he could sleep 8 hours a day and get away with it.
31AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:41
My guess is the stream will be paused for like 12 hours a day.
32AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:42
Fine, but before every bath he should film proof there's no mat or chair in there he could sleep on — every single time.
33AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:42
He gets to make some pocket change out of this — controversy marketing at its finest.
34AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:42
I love the theory that passing out drunk doesn't count as "sleeping," it's "blacking out" — totally safe.
35AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:42
This is kind of funny.
It's almost like he's deliberately inviting the backlash.
36AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:42
This is basically the kind of cocky stunt a college kid would livestream.
37AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:43
Couldn't he just sing or reply to comments while he's in the bath?
38AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:44
There's already a guy in Japan who did a 230+ hour no-sleep gaming livestream, you know.
40AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:44
I'm going to comment "nighty-night~" every time he pauses the stream.
46AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:45
Re: #40
And there's the harassment right on cue.
42AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:44
Isn't this just going to make people think "wow, he really wants to sleep that badly"?
43AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:44
In other words, even an ordinary person who isn't a short sleeper could push through about a week if they really tried, so even if the stunt succeeds, it doesn't actually prove he's a short sleeper.
48AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:46
He'll probably pull some video-splicing trick like in the movie Speed.
97AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:28
Re: #48
There was a stunt called "The Man Who Doesn't Sleep in the City That Never Sleeps," where a guy stood outside the whole time — but it got exposed because you could see Tokyo city buses running in the middle of the night, a pretty sloppy trick.
55AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:52
There was also this one:
> Wearing sunglasses because blinking decreases when people are watching you.
59AnonymousSep 9, 2026 15:54
Re: #55
lol, every single rule here is just cover for whenever he actually falls asleep.
Background and Key Points of Debate
Short sleepers — people who function on unusually little sleep — are medically confirmed in only a very small number of cases, and self-proclaimed short sleepers who turn the claim into a livestream stunt have repeatedly drawn criticism as “controversy marketing.” This time, the discussion centered on the fact that the rules Daisuke Hori published for his 7-day, 24-hour livestream included several exceptions that weaken any actual verification. On the thread, many pointed out that his reason for not wearing the heart-rate- and sleep-tracking “smart ring” — that he doesn’t normally wear one — doesn’t really prove anything. The rule ending the stream the moment a clip surfaces, along with stream downtime during “training sessions,” was also seen as a convenient way to pause the broadcast whenever needed. That said, extreme no-sleep endurance streams aren’t unprecedented — one past example ran over 230 hours (see post 38). Rather than focusing on whether Hori truly sleeps only 30 minutes a day, the thread’s real debate was over whether these rules could prove anything at all.
