Actor Masami Nagasawa has announced she will appear in director Takashi Yamazaki’s latest franchise entry, ‘Godzilla -0.0.’ Having previously played one of the tiny fairies (Shobijin) in ‘Godzilla, Mothra and Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.’ and ‘Godzilla: Final Wars,’ this marks her third role in the Godzilla series and her first in 22 years — this time as meteorologist Makoto Aoyama. Set two years after the previous film ‘Godzilla -1.0,’ the movie also brings back Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe. It was announced on the 8th that actor Masami Nagasawa will appear in the film ‘Godzilla -0.0’ (Godzilla Minus Zero). This is Nagasawa’s third role in the Godzilla series and her first in about 22 years, following her turns as one of the Shobijin in ‘Godzilla, Mothra and Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.’ (2003) and ‘Godzilla: Final Wars’ (2004). In this installment she plays meteorologist Makoto Aoyama, saying: “It had been a long time since I last came face to face with Godzilla, and filming while being overwhelmed by his sheer presence was thrilling and nerve-wracking. Please look forward to the release.”
‘Godzilla -0.0’ is the 31st entry in the series, set two years after the desperate battle of the previous film ‘Godzilla -1.0’ (2023), which dragged a postwar Japan from zero down into the negatives. Takashi Yamazaki once again serves as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor, with the previous film’s leads Koichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) and his wife Noriko (Minami Hamabe) returning. Just as Japan finally achieves recovery and gets its everyday life back, a new depth of despair comes crashing down on it.

Masami really is, along with Aya, one of the strongest actresses in the 'around 40' bracket (Japanese media shorthand for actresses in their late 30s-40s).

Godzilla Minus One was really bad. The live-action scenes with Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe were unwatchable — that cringey, Showa-style melodrama acting. Yamazaki should just stick to making the CG. He seems to want to direct 'real' movies, but he's got no talent for it.

The Godzilla franchise has run for over 70 years since the original 1954 film, and one of its defining traits is that each installment has its own independent setting and continuity — which is why the thread saw people mixing up ‘Shin Godzilla’ with ‘Godzilla -1.0.’ Nagasawa also appeared in the older series back in 2003 and 2004, making this her comeback after 22 years.
