The story
New footage from Xbox’s upcoming RPG ‘Fable’ has been released, sparking a wave of reactions on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha). Fans praised the game’s high degree of freedom — you can marry, have affairs, and even run a kingdom — as well as graphical touches like detailed armor, though some voiced concerns about the combat system and frame rate. The game is being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the ‘Forza Horizon’ series, and threads speculated about the release date amid talk of GTA6’s delay. While the series is popular in North America, it’s relatively unknown in Japan, and the thread also lit up with comparisons to other popular RPGs.
What people said
Wasn't that the new COO who came up through the media? Pretty sharp — shuts down online FUD fast.
Take it easy, everyone.
I think that's just because it's a hammer.
When you switch to a sword now and then it slices through smoothly.
Switch is a toy for playing Nintendo games, right? Mind not butting in? MS just wants it to run on PC, that's all.
Lol what are you even saying, it's a Microsoft first-party game — it's actually weird that a PS5 version is even happening.
Even with just the hammer it looks like this, and there's confirmed swords, bows, and magic too
and even what we've seen so far already has several different spell types?
Actually, how does Wolverine even hold up?
It doesn't have distinctive movement like Spider-Man, so I feel like it'll end up getting compared to hardcore action games like Ninja Gaiden.
Apparently this is on medium settings, so it's probably right around PS5-level.
It was a dead IP because it wasn't selling…
You can get married, have affairs.
You can open a shop.
You can hire unemployed townsfolk as shop staff.
Every building is purchasable.
You can kick residents out (a whole town's worth).
There are multiple ways to solve quests —
persuade, kill and take, etc.
It's packed with the kind of freedom that's gotten rare lately.
Though it looks like you can't interact with random objects lying around.
Apparently you can even hit on the shopkeepers and make them your wife.
Forget marriage and affairs, you can even have multiple wives at once — it's basically a build-your-own-kingdom game.
This isn't a 'go meet someone stronger than you' game, dumbass — it's a 'build my own kingdom' game.
It just feels too dated, no matter how you slice it.
Pretty sure EA doesn't have any RPGs like this though.
Combat's weak lol, it's supposed to be an action game but the combat's trash like Fornite.
And on top of that the graphics are choppy garbage — this has gotta be 30fps, it'll fry my eyes.
Lmao, 'Fornite'
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
‘Fable’ is a highly open-ended action RPG series originally created by the UK’s Lionhead Studios, which became popular after its 2004 debut but had gone without a new entry for a long time. This new installment is being handled by Playground Games, the Xbox Game Studios subsidiary known for the racing series ‘Forza Horizon,’ making this notable as the studio’s first RPG. Thread reactions were split: some praised the feel of the combat and the graphical detail, while others pointed out the frame rate and repetitive combat system. It’s also a period when release-date jockeying among publishers is a hot topic due to ‘GTA6’s delay, so speculation about Fable’s launch window was rampant as well. The game is said to support Japanese subtitles, though it’s worth noting — a point easy to misunderstand — that content may vary by region due to ratings considerations.
