The story

To mark the 30th anniversary of the shojo manga “For You in Full Blossom” (Hanakimi), Nippon TV has announced a new drama adaptation with a triple lead of Kawamura Hana, Hasegawa Shin, and Fujiwara Itsuki. It’s the third live-action version, following the Horikita Maki-led and Maeda Atsuko-led adaptations, and will air Saturdays from 2:30pm, with programming built around catch-up streaming on TVer and Hulu. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board, discussion focused on why the same source material keeps getting remade, and on the casting lineup being heavily weighted toward talent from the Stardust and LDH-affiliated agencies.

30 minutes? Eight episodes won't be enough to tell this properly,
and whoever's playing Ashiya Mizuki is too weak for the role, so this isn't going to be a hit.

Re: #4
Even NTV already knows it won't be a hit — that's exactly why they're burying it in a 2pm Saturday slot.
5AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:39
The live-action version only got a pass because it was Horikita in the lead,
but honestly the heroine's motive is so twisted it's not even funny as a manga.

Re: #5
There was also a Maeda Atsuko version, you know.
55AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:09
Re: #38
Which is probably exactly why that one didn't get a pass.

Re: #16
It's a manga that's been running since 1996, so the vibe is bound to feel dated by now.
Same goes for the anime — it's genuinely a mystery why they're doing this again now.

Re: #38
I was about to post the exact same thing,
but two other guys already beat me to it, lol.
6AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:40
Other than Oguri Shun, the original cast wins hands down.

Re: #6
Suzuki Ryohei feels so out of place lol
9AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:43
Why is this airing Saturdays from 2:30pm?
That's a local-sales slot, not a full national network broadcast, right?
Does that mean some regions won't get it at all?

Though I guess they'll have catch-up streaming on TVer and Hulu.

Re: #9
Oh, turns out I just missed the part saying they're doing catch-up streaming on TVer and Hulu.
My bad.

Women will scream bloody murder over stories pairing men in their 30s-40s with a JK (high school girl),
but they're total suckers for reverse-harem stories themselves.
Guys just shrug it off and let them have it, so everything stays peaceful.
25AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:48
Re: #11
Probably because here it's high schoolers on both sides lol
Men would scream and sneer just as hard over stories pairing women in their 30s-40s with a DK (high school boy) — 'gross! gross! what an idiot!' lol lol lol lol

Re: #11
Plenty of women couldn't care less about this stuff either, you know.
You're trying way too hard, buddy.
14AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:45
This is basically a drama made just to throw work at young talent from Stardust, LDH, and Horipro.

Re: #15
Huh, didn't realize casting could skew this hard toward one agency.
Stardust really does churn out new actors one after another, huh.
43AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:55
Re: #15
Not a single one under 20 —
there's hardly any teenage actors in the whole lineup.
16AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:46
Re: #5
There was an anime adaptation recently too,
but the heroine's motives and all the little details feel subtly dated now — there's just no sense of realism left.
Made me realize even a wacky premise has a shelf life.
18AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:47
Oh, it's NTV.
If this were Fuji TV, I could totally picture them slotting a remake into the Getsuku (Monday 9pm) block.
66AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:16
Re: #18
This is the SECOND remake, though?
Even Fuji wouldn't go that far.
19AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:47
I've been following Kawamura Hana for a while — she's rare in that she's kept doing local work in her home turf of Aichi even now.
95AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:40
Re: #19
Didn't she leave "Switch" on Tokai TV at the end of September? I think that was her last regular gig in the Tokai region.
30AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:50
Airing every Saturday from 2:30pm.

They're running a drama in that timeslot?
33AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:52
Re: #30
It's built around TVer, so the actual broadcast time barely matters.
The target audience is the core demographic, not middle-aged guys.
39AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:54
Is shojo manga really that short on source material?
If there are good recent titles out there, they should just keep adapting those instead.
45AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:57
Re: #39
There are probably plenty of good newer titles, but older hits have more name recognition, so they're easier to get greenlit.
47AnonymousNov 7, 2026 10:58
Re: #39
My impression is that recent titles tend to get turned into movies instead.

Wouldn't be surprised if "Mei-chan's Butler" gets remade next.

Re: #69
The butler lineup in "Mei-chan's Butler" was stacked too lol
75AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:24
Go dig up some new source material already.
80AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:26
Re: #75
They're probably going for ticket sales from both mothers and daughters.

Nostalgic for the moms,
new for the daughters.
81AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:27
Re: #75
They'll remake Hana-Kimi,
but they won't touch Hanadan (Boys Over Flowers), will they.
90AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:34
> Airing every Saturday from 2:30pm.

What kind of timeslot is this?
There's no way this airs nationwide.
108AnonymousNov 7, 2026 11:54
Re: #90
It's a local-sales slot.
Some NTV affiliate stations won't even carry it.

A comparison between Horikita Maki and Mae-Atsu (Maeda Atsuko)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The original work is a shojo manga by Nakajo Hisaya that began serialization in “Hana to Yume” in 1996, and this new project ties in with the manga’s 30th anniversary. It was first dramatized in 2007 as “Ikemen♂ Paradise,” starring Horikita Maki, which proved popular; a sequel starring Maeda Atsuko followed in 2011, but on the thread many commenters said they’d rather pretend that one never happened, suggesting the second installment wasn’t well received. This new version occupies an unobtrusive Saturday 2:30pm slot on terrestrial TV, with programming built around streaming on TVer and Hulu, suggesting the target audience skews young rather than middle-aged. The fact that the main cast is concentrated among Stardust and LDH-affiliated talent also drew attention, which reflects an industry reality in which school dramas often double as a showcase for promoting up-and-coming young actors.
