Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Metascore Sparks Debate — PS5 Stuck at 83 While Other Platforms Hit 88

From our other sites

The story

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen earned a Metascore of 88 on PC and Switch 2, but the PS5 version alone sits at 83 — a gap that sparked discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry (console-war, aka “geha”) board. Posters were split on whether the difference comes down to review count (21 reviews for PS5 versus around 20 for the other platforms) or PS5-specific bugs and freezing issues. Some noted they couldn’t actually find any review pointing out bugs, leaving the cause unconfirmed.

88, not bad!
Meanwhile the 83 console (lol)
4AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:38
Well, there's one console with a noticeably lower score~

Re: #4
Review count.
Relative scoring (meaning: overall, the PS5 version is just too high quality, relatively speaking)
8AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:39
Bug machine, quit causing trouble already 😆

Re: #8
You actually believed that fake rumor?
That's a reportable offense right there
11AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:39
Re: #9
Good thing you don't have to buy a "Pirate Station" (mocking nickname for PS5 as a haven for pirated games)!
13AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:40
Re: #11
That thing is such a damn nuisance lol
14AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:40
Unless the review counts are off by a whole order of magnitude or something
166AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:24
Re: #14
Yeah, that's right?
PS5 has the most reviews.
Plenty of reviews from Nintendo-fanboy journalists too
15AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:41
Well, freezing issues are pretty rough, you know
Lots of freezes is just brutal
16AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:41
Re: #15
Even one freeze is enough to kill your motivation to keep playing
167AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:24
Re: #15
Never happened to me though lol
19AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:43
PC (mostly Nvidia)
Switch 2 (Nvidia)

PS5 ← AMD (lol)

Maybe that's the cause?
If you ran the PC version on AMD it'd probably be just as bad
76AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:01
Re: #19
They probably built it mainly for Nvidia
It doesn't sell on PS anyway so it got deprioritized lol
25AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:46
The PS5 version ships in DLC form, so that's probably why it's behaving weirdly
27AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:46
Re: #25
Nah, that's true for the PC version too
31AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:48
Re: #25
You only ever post baseless nonsense with zero sources, huh

As usual, the PS5 version has way more reviews than anything else
35AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:49
Re: #32
Calling an 8-review difference "way more" is a stretch
41AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:50
Wait, so if I'm buying this, it's basically a choice between Switch 2 or PC?
43AnonymousOct 9, 2026 07:52
Re: #41
That's basically always been the case
Switch 2: portable
PC: customizable with great graphics

PS5: nothing going for it
74AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:01
Isn't the lower score just because there are more reviews?
79AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:01
Re: #74
"More"? It's only an 8-review difference
81AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:02
Re: #74
Not getting that is exactly what makes someone a console-war guy ("geha" poster, 5ch slang for obsessive platform-war posters)
97AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:08
Re: #74
That's not really relevant though?
Switch, PC, and Xbox (20 reviews each) are all rated highly
Yet somehow only the PS version (21 reviews) scores low
123AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:14
Funny how the self-proclaimed "neutral" PC users who usually storm into these threads yelling "console trash" (家ゴミ, a slur for console gaming) and "PC is the only real choice" haven't shown up this time

Re: #123
Speaking as someone who played Dragon's Dogma 2 on PC at launch, I honestly can't recommend it

Personally I loved it and got 100 hours out of it, but it's genuinely not a game I'd recommend to others
126AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:15
There's literally a review for the PS5 version that mentions bugs
135AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:17
Re: #126
Which review?
I went through all of them and didn't see anything like that
Am I missing something?
144AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:20
Re: #126
Delete it, delete it, delete it, delete it, delete it, delete it
199AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:29
Re: #126
Which review mentions the bug?
I seriously can't find it, please point it out
179AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:26
The distributors are seriously desperate lol
Switch 2 was also the clear #1 in US sales, so nothing's going right for them lately
183AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:26
Re: #179
Another fake rumor?
This one's reportable too
Capcom's gonna be furious
189AnonymousOct 9, 2026 08:28
Re: #183
Isn't this a reportable case?

Huh?

[Circana] North America August 2026 hardware sales: #1 Switch 2, #2 PS5
https://krsw.5ch.io/test/read.cgi/ghard/1791466004/

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Metascore is a metric calculated by weighting reviews from listed media outlets, so even a small difference in review count can shift the score. In the thread, the result — PS5 at 83 versus roughly 88 for the PC and Switch 2 versions — sparked a split between the “it’s just the review count” theory and the “PS5-specific bugs and freezing” theory. However, those arguing the latter couldn’t produce any actual review text pointing out bugs, so the claim remains unconfirmed. The thread also cited data showing Switch 2 outselling PS5 in North American hardware sales for August 2026, and platform comparisons like this — scores, sales, and all — are a recurring flashpoint for arguments on the hardware/industry (“geha”) board.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch hardware/industry (“geha”) board thread “Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen gets a Metascore of 88! PS5 version alone stuck at 83 due to bugs and frequent freezing 😭.”
