The story
Nintendo has announced the “Nintendo Switch 2 Choose Your Game Set,” launching November 12, 2026, at a suggested retail price of 63,980 yen (tax included). Buyers can pick one title from Mario Kart World, Tomodachi Collection, or Nintendo Switch Sports Resort — a different lineup from the North American version (Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Bananza, and a Pokémon title). On the thread, opinions split: some pointed out that launch-day buyers effectively lost out on 10,000 yen, and others criticized the bundling practice for squeezing out individual game sales at retail, while some offered an analysis suggesting the domestic lineup differs from overseas because Pokémon-series titles’ weekly sales are too weak to anchor the bundle.

This is exactly what you'd call "feudal lord" business (a dismissive idiom for an arrogant, take-it-or-leave-it attitude toward customers)
Classic Nintendo! Lord Nintendo through and through!
If you'd bought it at launch, you wouldn't have lost out on that 10,000 yen
That one's been selling in bulk for around 58k lately
What even is this?! Are they stupid?? It includes a Switch 1 game so there's zero sense of a deal, and on top of that it's cheaper than buying everything separately at MSRP — meaning fewer customers will buy a game package alongside the console. This is a retailer killer!
The worst!!
Mario Kart, Bananza, and a Pokémon title (Pokémon Pokopoko)
but in Japan it's changed to Mario Kart, Tomodachi Collection, and Switch Sports Resort
Japan should've just gone with that lineup too
At the very least, Tomodachi Collection should've been swapped for Bananza
lol the American lineup would've been fine as-is
why'd they even bother changing it
The download code expiring in March 2027 is a pretty tight window
And on top of that it's 63,980 yen…
Re: #16
Same story with the Platinum Points redemption items — why does Japan keep getting the short end of the stick
That's exactly the kind of thing that's been disappointing about Nintendo lately
Probably because it's a title that goes over well with families
You can make your own custom characters (Miis)
it's perfect for women playing together with friends
sharing results on X (Twitter) is a big thing too
like making a character based on whatever drama's trending right now
That's true for PS5, yeah
PS5?
Do you seriously think Tomodachi Collection isn't mediocre?
I wouldn't play a game like that anyway
though if they were going to swap something out, it'd be the Tomodachi Collection slot, so it's a tough call
If you could choose between Pokémon Pokopoko and Bananza, that'd be a huge draw for the year-end sales battle
that kind of momentum would get people buying more software too
well, overseas where the volume's bigger, you do get to choose between Pokémon Pokopoko and Bananza, so they're feeling pretty confident over there
Actually, it was bundled with just Mario Kart at first
it's just gone back to that
Bananza is selling well enough overseas that it's still showing up on the UK's latest charts, but that's not the case in Japan
Pokémon Pokopoko is still selling in Japan too, but at only around 2,600 units a week, it's probably been judged as not having enough pull
Latest UK weekly charts

still, is anyone really going to pick the Sports one though
Isn't it because the publisher is The Pokémon Company?
Overseas it's published by Nintendo
"pick one from the trash" is just cruel
exactly, so Mario Kart is basically the only real choice
Sorry about that, it's sold 3 million
it's outselling PS5, which doesn't even have a single million-seller
PS5 doesn't sell anything at all, huh
and by the way, even without the bundle, this outsold every single PS5 game released this year
but it's gonna get crushed by PS5 at the Game of the Year awards though
McDonald's sure is tasty, huh~ lol (a troll meme mocking someone as a naive manchild)
lol, ranked below [Monster Hunter] Wilds
wait, seriously? isn't this supposed to be the mega-title, eight years in development, that beat Wilds — and now it's "below Wilds"?
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
Nintendo announced the “Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese language, Japan-only) Choose Your Game Set,” launching November 12, 2026, priced at 63,980 yen (tax included). In North America, buyers choose from three titles — Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and a Pokémon title (the Pokémon Pokopoko series) — but the Japanese version swaps this out for Mario Kart World, Tomodachi Collection, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. On the thread, some pointed to domestic Pokémon-series titles’ weekly sales of only around 2,600 units as too weak to drive the bundle, while others argued Tomodachi Collection has strong appeal among families and on social media; still, many expressed frustration, asking why Japan didn’t just match the overseas lineup. Criticism of the bundling practice itself was also a major talking point — that it squeezes out customers who’d buy games individually, and that it makes launch-day buyers pay more overall. One detail easy to miss in the original announcement is that the download code’s expiration date is as early as the end of March 2027 — a fairly short window worth keeping in mind when weighing the set’s value.
