The story
On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, concerns have been raised about whether GTA6’s quality will hold up. Reasons cited include it being the first title since key developers left the studio, repeated delays, a surprisingly low-key marketing push, and negative reactions to leaked gameplay footage. On the other hand, market research reports were also cited, noting that pre-orders alone reportedly brought in about $180 million across the five major markets, with worldwide launch-week sales projected at $3.3–5.2 billion. Opinions split between optimists who say sales figures alone put any worries to rest, and cautious posters who kept pointing to past big-budget games that flopped despite high expectations, refusing to let go of their quality concerns.
What people said
Repeated delays
Surprisingly low-key marketing
Latest footage turned out to be a misleading trailer (PV sagi)
Tons of leaked gameplay videos, almost universally panned
No online mode at launch
Retail copies are just a code in a box (no disc)
Sorry, wrong thread
Obviously it has to be the best in the series
If a merely average game drops after all this hype, it's gonna blow up into a huge backlash
Exactly, exactly
That's precisely what I'm trying to say
Mass Effect Andromeda
FF15
That one game (you know the one)
Starfield
Wilds [Monster Hunter Wilds]
Adding fuel management to cars gives me nothing but a bad feeling.
EVs are gonna have long charging waits lol
Basically no different from weapon durability breaking in Breath of the Wild
When you're not in a spot where you can casually swing by a gas station, you'll end up having to repeatedly ditch cars and steal new ones
It's not so much stirring up anxiety as there being nothing reassuring, so people are going 'huh, wait…'
The marketing is still this weak at this point, it's starting to feel genuinely bad.
'This is gonna be a legendary game! AAAAAH!'
That's the reaction they want
but it's not happening, so yeah, I'm genuinely, truly worried.
It's just that Rockstar and Take-Two turn into a company posting huge losses in any year they don't release a game.
There was a 20-minute gameplay video released
If it really runs like that on an actual retail PS5, it's a guaranteed win
PS5 dev kits are more powerful than the retail units, right? Apparently they even use a vapor chamber for cooling
If it's barely hitting 30fps on a dev kit, who knows how it'll actually run on a retail console…
(We're talking about quality here)
I think it'll pass that in total sales eventually, but there's no way it sells 50 million units in the first week alone.
There's also the Wolverine example (the troubled Marvel's Wolverine game).
Or is the game so unfinished they can't even put out another trailer?
It's being reported that pre-orders are strong, putting it in the 40-50 million unit range.
Did you actually check the source? All that comes up is stuff like 'unprecedented' and 'phenomenal.'
> In the last week of June, the game racked up roughly $180 million in digital pre-order sales across the five major markets in the US and Europe.
> GTA 6 is projected to achieve worldwide cumulative sales of $3.3 billion to $5.2 billion by the end of launch week.
Convert that to unit sales and it comes out to roughly 50 million units, which is where the '50 million' figure comes from
It's not something haters made up.

So at $100 a copy, that's 1.8 million units up front, with a low end of 33 million and a high end of 52 million — is that what it's saying?
Apparently it's at 5 million now — is that actually fine?
Well, there is technically an Xbox version too
though it might only account for like 10-20% of sales
Monster Hunter Wilds' 'Ascendance' [expansion] is a Switch 2 multiplatform release, so yeah, go ahead and worry about that one.
Nope, it's within the window
GOTY is a lock
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
GTA6 is in a situation where “is it really going to be okay?” concerns come easily before release, thanks to the departure of key developers, repeated delays, a marketing push that’s still low-key this close to launch, and poor reactions to leaked gameplay footage. On the other hand, the market research report cited in post 60 notes that pre-orders alone brought in about $180 million across the five major US and European markets, with worldwide cumulative launch-week sales projected at $3.3–5.2 billion. The ’50 million units’ figure is a back-calculation from that estimate, and as posts 51 and 70 point out, some are questioning the basis for the calculation and whether there’s any precedent for it — so it’s worth noting this isn’t a confirmed number. The thread split between the camp saying ‘if the sales are there, quality is secondary’ and the camp pointing to past cases like Anthem, Cyberpunk 2077, and Dragon’s Dogma 2, where hype outran the final product and fans ended up disappointed — with past big-budget game flops being cited again and again.
