Kojima Hideo Photographed With Xbox Executive ‘Asha’ Ahead of TGS

The story

A thread reported that “Asha,” a well-known Xbox executive, arrived in Japan ahead of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) and was photographed with Kojima Hideo. Kojima Productions, having ended its partnership with Sony, has been developing “OD” for Xbox, and speculation is spreading that its new project “PHYSINT” — said to need five to six years of development — will also join the Xbox family. The thread was split over whether Microsoft’s huge investment is a gamble or a calculated strategy.

What people said

I figured Asha, unlike Phil, would never actually come to Japan lol
7AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:47
Re: #6
She's brutally hard-nosed about costs.
But this time, meeting Kojima is probably one of her actual work duties, so it's likely just tacked onto the trip.
11AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:49
X is in an uproar, huh
Way too many people trashing Sony lol
111AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:41
Re: #11
They've made enemies of Kojima fans, after all
This is probably going to keep spreading
12AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:49
Why keep feeding a money pit like that…
Shitty Sony is shitty, but MS is really out of touch too
16AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:52
Re: #12
MS gives you one shot,
but cuts you loose the moment you fail.
Still, isn't that fair?
15AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:51
Asha is way too competent

For better or worse, Kojima was the flagship of PlayStation's "artist-first (lol)" image.

Now that the hollow claim of "culture and art over money" is dead in both name and substance, TGS is the perfect place and moment to announce "we're the new patron now."

Re: #15
Ah, that's it — rather than a plain product announcement, they might do a keynote in the style Sony likes to put on.
18AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:52
It's too early for a joint press event at this TGS, so maybe this is just for online buzz.
21AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:54
Re: #18
They'll probably announce something, right?
Might even be surprised at how far along OD actually is.
20AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:54
When did they even make a jacket with the MS and Kojima Productions logos on it lol
33AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:59
Re: #20
It's actually been around since the Phil era

Re: #33
The Xbox-side logo's been redesigned, so it's not the same one.
25AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:55
They actually had three months, so there was plenty of time to prepare.
28AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:57
Re: #25
Yeah, that probably covers prep through TGS.
And the fact that Asha — who's strict about schedule management — hasn't cut OD, and even greenlit PHYSINT on top of it,
must mean she sees her own odds of success in it.
29AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:57
Re: #21
OD on its own doesn't have much news value, and it's questionable whether it's worth the effort for MS — so weak in the Japanese market — to hold a big presentation for it.
But if it comes out alongside Xbox's statement of intent as an actual piece of software, even a quick footage tease could carry real promotional weight.
32AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:59
Re: #29
Maybe she's the type who doesn't spare money to generate buzz.
That might be where she differs from gamers.
Seems like she does proper marketing.
34AnonymousSep 14, 2026 16:59
How lame.
Didn't the creator of D no Shokutaku (the game "D") once pull a publicity stunt and move his next title from PlayStation to Saturn?
38AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:00
Re: #34
Well, this time it's different — this follows an actual declaration of cutting ties with PlayStation.
46AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:06
Re: #34
When the Saturn tanked in the North American, European, and Brazilian markets, Sega ran out of cash — MS has way more staying power than that.
Sega back then also had exhausted software development capacity, whereas MS is different in that it's hungry for a platform to put out all the studios it bought for huge sums.
In short, maybe we're about to see the "what if" version of the Dreamcast route, where Sega's financial strength actually held out?
No idea if it'll succeed or fail though.

Re: #16
And this "director" is going to milk that one shot all the way to 2030.
Anyone who's played Death Stranding already knows nothing great is coming out of this.
102AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:37
Re: #37
Isn't that fine though?
MS is the one who loses out.
If the director gets fired up, everyone benefits.
It's a gamble.
40AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:02
Is it really fine not to go crawling back to Sonyyy again soon?
43AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:04
Re: #40
His pride's too high for self-deprecating jokes,
and even if he tried, it'd probably just be unfunny material with nothing entertaining about it.
41AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:03
MS hasn't done anything wrong here.
They're just profiting while the other two fight it out ("fisherman's profit").
44AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:04
Re: #41
Kojima reached out to MS himself.

He moved fast right after getting cut loose by Sony.
47AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:07
Why Sony flipped out

Director Kojima Hideo has said in interviews that development (of PHYSINT) will take at least five to six years, putting release around 2030.
51AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:09
Re: #47
If it's 2030, that's six more years on the release schedule, right as it'd become a huge asset during the PS6's growth period.
What's there to complain about?
Maybe they're not even releasing a PS6? lol
48AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:07
Asha: "We're resetting Xbox in 180 days."

Asha: "We're cutting Game Pass prices."

Asha: "Persona 6 launches Day One on Game Pass."

Asha: "We're converting discs to digital."

Asha: "We're adding Kojima to the Xbox family."

Re: #48
At first I thought "this is done for,"
but everything she does is so on point I was just like "wow" (lost for words).
107AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:40
Re: #48
I thought this meant pulling out of the platform/game business,
but gaming is now the flagship application driving the x86 OS market,
so there's no way they could just toss it aside that easily.
68AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:16
Kojima's great and all, but they'd better bring some other real surprises too.

It's easy to forget since Forza Horizon 6 was there last year,
but aside from that, there were zero other new Game Pass title announcements.
69AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:17
Re: #68
Wasn't P4R (Persona 4 Remake) one too?
Also E-Day.
72AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:20
Re: #68
Sounds like it's best not to get my hopes up too much.
Well, I'll allow myself just a little bit of hope.
92AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:33
Xbox and Kojima Productions are head over heels for each other ♡
Both OD and PHYSINT are XBOX ♡
99AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:36
Re: #92
OD runs on Unreal Engine — basically the go-to "super RPG Maker" for indies and B-tier studios.
Not something a AAA studio obsessed with craftsmanship would use.
Just shows they want to keep the budget and headcount low — if PHYSINT is on UE too, it's over.
106AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:39
Re: #99
What are you even talking about?
Witcher 4 is on Unreal Engine too, you know.

Re: #99
Concord, Marathon, Warosu, FairGame$, Space Baldy, Hag 20, Toukon Code (derisive fan nicknames for various troubled/cancelled games)
"Oh yeah!! Exactly!!"
105AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:39
OD is a pretty unconventional project, but wasn't it Microsoft themselves who asked for something different?
110AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:41
Re: #105
Originally it wasn't, actually.
116AnonymousSep 14, 2026 17:44
Re: #105
It was originally planned for Google Stadia.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Asha’s visit to Japan, timed right before the Tokyo Game Show’s opening, was widely read as evidence of a growing closeness between Kojima Hideo and the Xbox camp. Kojima Productions was once exclusive to Sony, but after ending that partnership it has been developing “OD” for Xbox — and according to one post in the thread, “OD” was itself originally planned for Google’s streaming service, showing the backstory isn’t so simple. In the thread, opinions split between those who see Microsoft’s investment in the new project “PHYSINT” — said to require five to six years of development — as a gamble, and those who see it as a rational move aimed at generating buzz. Note that lines quoted as Asha’s own words, such as “we’re resetting Xbox in 180 days,” are posters’ sarcastic invention and were not officially announced.
