The story
It’s come to light that Atlus’s Persona 4 remake will launch on Nintendo Switch about three months later than other platforms, with a Switch release date of May 20, 2027 — sparking discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board. Since there had originally been speculation that the game “wouldn’t come to Switch” at all, the thread filled with reactions calling it “table scraps” and a “snub.” Meanwhile, the appearance of the Xbox logo in the announcement trailer set off debate over the propriety of Atlus’s partnership with Microsoft. The discussion escalated into a cross-platform slugfest, with posters also citing the gap in same-night Japanese concurrent viewership between the Nintendo Direct and the PlayStation State of Play (1.66 million vs. 100,000).
What people said
Just start with 4, that's fine.
3 might be too dated to really get into these days.
Aren't there also fighting games in the series?
If I'm catching up on the RPGs now, which one's the best to start with?
The fighting games are the follow-up to 3 and 4.
3 and 4 are each self-contained stories, so it's totally fine to skip around.
The fighting games are billed as an epilogue, but nothing really progresses story-wise, so you can safely ignore them.
They just briefly touch on what the Persona 3 cast does after graduating.
For the RPGs, just start with the Persona 4 remake coming out soon.
Each game's story stands on its own, so pick whichever world appeals to you.
It IS coming out though, so what do you mean by 'couldn't handle it'?
There's nothing in it besides Persona lol
Meanwhile, in reality:
State of Play Japan concurrent viewers: 100k
Nintendo Direct Japan concurrent viewers: 1.66 million
Same night, too.
Japanese fans are brutal lol
Sounds super salty lol
Why though
It's been leaked that Microsoft is blocking the Switch version.
They probably wanted to space it out from the Persona 3 Remake and Metaphor (Metaphor: ReFantazio).
Sony's the only company that pulls dirty tricks like that, dumbass.
Of course it does, they have a marketing deal with Xbox. (This comes up every single time.)
Do you even get that it's a strategic partnership?
Of course Xbox gets priority in the PR, that's obvious.
Microsoft also pulled something crazy, like a 3-day exclusivity window on Persona 3 Remake info.
All you can do is bring up something else to change the subject, huh, fanboy.
Sony also pulled something crazy, like a six-month-plus exclusivity window on Reve Noir info.
Microsoft made it so only the Xbox logo showed up for 3 days on the P3 Remake,
monopolizing the branding.
Only Microsoft does dirty stuff like that.
Sony made it so only the PlayStation logo showed up for about 7 months on Reve Noir,
monopolizing the branding.
Only Sony does dirty stuff like that.
Sony's the kind of dirty company that rebrands third-party games as 'PlayStation Studios' titles just to claim them as exclusives.
May 20, 2027
That's just table scraps, isn't it?! LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Just how weak is this garbage hardware?
Wait, it's delayed by a whole 3 months…?
They were saying it wasn't even coming out in the first place, what a joke.
So what now, huh? LOLOLOLOLOLOL
It's not really 'coming out' on time though.
It's a later release.
Did you even look at the release date?
Just how badly do you not want to buy a PlayStation?
That's a perfectly normal reaction.
Nobody wants to buy a trash can or a piece of garbage.
It doesn't have to be a PS, an Xbox would work fine too.
That argument cuts both ways, you know.
So in the end it just means it's taking longer to get it working on the Switch 2.
This whole back-and-forth is pointless.
Just think about the spec gap with the other platforms for a second.
Like Re: #207 already said, they have to take the finished game and get it running on Switch 2, so of course that takes extra time.
I've got a lot I want around the New Year's season, so honestly, a later release actually helps.
Do these people have no shame at all?
Everyone's known that for ages already.
I wonder if they'll call FH6 (Forza Horizon 6) 'table scraps' too.
Background and Talking Points on This Topic
The “snub” claims really just boil down to the Switch version’s release date being set about three months later than other platforms — this isn’t a cancellation or a scrapped release. Delayed ports aren’t unusual, and as some in the thread pointed out, this is likely just the extra time needed to optimize for hardware with a much bigger performance gap. The other flashpoint is the Xbox logo, which reflects a PR-priority arrangement stemming from Atlus and Microsoft’s marketing partnership — a completely different thing from a contract that would block release on other platforms — but that distinction gets lost, feeding the misconception that the game was “blocked.” The concurrent-viewer comparison (1.66 million vs. 100,000) is likewise just a gap in same-night event viewership, and doesn’t directly translate to long-term sales or how well-regarded a game is — something readers can easily misread. The back-and-forth over past information-exclusivity windows around the Persona 3 Remake and Reve Noir is simply part of the ordinary practice of companies prioritizing their own promotional exposure around a new release, not the special scandal the thread’s mudslinging makes it out to be.
