Fierce Thunderstorms Slam Kanto — Nogizaka46 Concert Hit With Entry Restrictions

On the afternoon of August 22, 2026, unforecast heavy rain and thunder pounded the Kanto region for hours, prompting Tokyo to issue a Level 4 Heavy Rain Emergency Warning. At Nogizaka46’s concert at Meiji Jingu Stadium, entry was temporarily restricted due to lightning near the venue, while reports of flooding and water intrusion poured in from across the region.

On 5ch, opinions split between those calling it “just an afternoon shower” or “business as usual,” and those insisting it was “abnormal rainfall nobody forecast.” The thread heated up further with theories blaming urbanization or global warming — and even a few conspiracy theories thrown in for good measure.

Yikes.
4Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:42:09.53
Nah, summer's always like this.
5Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:43:26.18
Way too much rain falls at once.
It never used to flood this often.
6Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:43:48.19
Oh, I thought something big happened, but it's just an afternoon shower?
That's not chaos at all, just business as usual.

That's not an afternoon shower.
Heavy rain nobody forecast has been going for two hours straight now.
7Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:45:16.68
Probably those tower condos' fault or something~ not that I'd know~ (tacking on a shrug with "知らんけど," basically "don't quote me")
8Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:45:57.70
This is worse than when Chiba flooded recently, isn't it?
9Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:46:20.03
Idiots and old folks only ever talk about the weather.
It's not even worth making a fuss over — hot, cold, it rained, whatever.

It's actually the opposite —
idiots only ever talk about work and data.
Especially middle-aged guys.

You forgot Fukuoka people (running joke that they're obsessed with weather talk).
10Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:46:36.78
We're kind of past the era of holding festivals this time of year.

Guess we should call it a "Super Guerrilla" downpour or something.
28Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:58:36.14
My nearest station sits in a low hollow, so rainwater came pouring in from all around — it was intense.
29Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:58:45.62
Thunderstorms are probably just what happens when incredibly strict people suddenly show a moment of kindness, y'know?
30Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 16:59:17.40
Ugh, and I was just about to head out!
34Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:01:44.05
Tokyo's got the "Underground Temple," so it'll be fine, right? (nickname for the giant flood-diversion tunnel system)
35Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:01:45.10
Rain came in through the shared hallway and right into my apartment.
39Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:07:36.39
That famous "Underground Temple" is part of the Ayase River system, so it doesn't do much against all this rain coming from the west lately.

Nogizaka's doing a live show in Kunitachi, hope they're okay.

It's Jingu, not Kunitachi.

42Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:09:09.64
We're hearing "Level 4" so often nationwide that people are getting numb to it.
43Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:09:21.88
Don't just casually slap out warnings so you're covered on liability later.
44Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:09:48.66
Watching the Zenpukuji River livecam, looks like it's about to overflow.

Tokyo currently under a Level 4 Heavy Rain Emergency Warning.
51Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:14:54.24
It's not stalled over one spot like last time, so it should be fine.
53Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:16:32.90
Being in an outdoor stadium while thunder's rolling is scary.

If it's pouring this hard, running won't help anyway —
walking it off with a calm face, that's what makes a real man.

That's a nasty way to wipe out.

Ran to the supermarket during a lull, and it's already raining again.
Thank god for the rain radar app.
62Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 17:47:38.20
An afternoon shower (yūdachi) is rain that falls from cumulonimbus clouds (towering thunderheads) formed when strong summer sunlight heats moist air near the ground, causing it to rise — it typically clears up within an hour at most.
69Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:04:12.63
Chemtrails in the middle of the night → mysterious mackerel-sky clouds, or a thin membrane-like haze that seems to amplify the heat.
Hot, then cool, then hot again.
If this were really global warming, it should be getting hotter year-round — this doesn't add up.
74Anonymous2026/08/22(土) 18:12:49.46

Sounds like you're misunderstanding what global warming actually means.
It's less about temperatures simply rising and more about extreme weather becoming more frequent.
Record winter snowstorms and sudden heavy snowfall are also effects of warming.
Typhoon numbers are above average this year too, and that's another effect of warming.

It's HAARP and chemtrails, right?
