Kuroko’s Basketball: The ‘Midorima Is Strongest’ Theory Survives Yet Another 5ch Debate

Written by

Over on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board, a thread heated up around the idea that Shintaro Midorima from Kuroko’s Basketball might be the de facto strongest player in the series. Posters split over how to counter his 100%-accuracy shot, and over just how well Ryota Kise’s “Perfect Copy” can actually replicate the threat Midorima poses.

Citing in-story specs like his hang time, height, and weight, some argued he’d be “basically breaking the rules” in real life, and the discussion spiraled into a full ranking debate of the Generation of Miracles.

Looks like he's clearly the strongest, no argument there
14Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:49:11.60ID:Ppcxi1ku0
Since there's only one Midorima, marking him tight is still a workable answer
but if there were two Midorimas, basketball as a sport would collapse
32Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:56:01.35ID:eQ7gRw1v0
>>14
And that's exactly what makes Kise so dangerous
depending on the situation, he can become a second Aomine or a second Midorima
and if he's copying Midorima, holding off on activating Perfect Copy until right before he catches the pass and shoots saves him a ton of stamina
24Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:52:31.69ID:ezF0vDDS0
Kuroko himself is trash, though (lol)
31Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:55:44.20ID:TzQuY6rX0
>>24
Just keep feeding Midorima the ball nonstop and he's unbeatable
66Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:09:43.03ID:ULJy4nxh0
>>31
The farther out the shot, the longer it takes to actually go in
so you just need to outscore him at a faster pace than that
the American team in the last match did exactly that
basically just ignoring Midorima entirely
26Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:53:24.42ID:ZzKKreTN0
Didn't someone show up who blocks literally 100% of shots from anywhere on the court?
27Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:54:26.68ID:E3CTD3G60
>>26
Kagami stopped him plenty of times though
28Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:54:56.09ID:DJiPvjgR0
>>26
Aomine's kind of close to that, arguably
30Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:55:32.79ID:XB7+T+px0
If only copying every Miracle's ability came with zero downside for Kise…
36Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 00:57:31.30ID:QPibCgq+0
>>30
Isn't "insane stamina drain" literally the downside?
40Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:00:03.50ID:z0xofZFa0
Surprised anyone besides fujoshi (female yaoi fans) actually watched this
42Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:00:52.97ID:DJiPvjgR0
>>40
It's surprisingly good, honestly
58Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:06:25.39ID:aIqqv9N10
>>40
Same deal with Prince of Tennis or Reborn — plenty of non-fujoshi readers watched those too, it's Jump after all
48Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:01:59.72ID:887cNHaM0
Why keep talking about 'doing everything humanly possible' and then go enroll at some scrub high school?
61Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:07:32.52ID:QPibCgq+0
>>48
Wasn't that school supposed to be a Tokyo-representative regular…
is a school that makes the Inter-High every single year really 'scrub tier'?
51Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:02:49.30ID:NUaK5y9i0
Kuroko's just running a battle manga with a basketball skin
good sports manga basically never have villains
54Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:04:52.00ID:I31dySF6a
>>51
Even Slam Dunk had guys who injured opponents on purpose though
55Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:05:17.63ID:aIqqv9N10
Thanks to this absurd power, you'd have to man-mark the inbound pass after every single score like your life depends on it
we're talking a level where ceiling height, inbound rules, and even the 3-point line would need to change
57Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:06:23.12ID:vTTw4+Qh0
>>55
Lol, people calculated that with a 13-second hang time the ceiling would need to be at least 280 meters
59Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:06:58.71ID:HiIiDHOw0
If they actually existed in real life, I think the other Miracles would just get celebrated as amazing athletes
but if Midorima existed, either the rules would have to change or, worst case, he might get 'taken care of'
otherwise basketball as a sport would be finished
62Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:08:10.46ID:9GMbGxDjM
>>59
Well, 195cm and 79kg is pretty stick-thin, so realistically the 'Midorima hack' would just be injuring him and benching him for a whole season
67Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:10:46.29ID:5k9PRm5z0
>>54
Even within Kuroko's Basketball, Hanamiya's Kirisaki Daiichi already does exactly that
70Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:12:05.51ID:I31dySF6a
>>67
No, that's exactly the point 51 was making
68Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:11:47.52ID:bP12ecsY0
Plus he's about the only one of the Miracles who takes basketball seriously and never lets up even against weaker opponents
he seems like the guy who'd mesh best with Kuroko, so it's odd they set them up as a bad match from the start
73Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:13:20.37ID:I31dySF6a
>>68
Kuroko's not exactly the serious type either
dude randomly punches his own teammates out of nowhere
74Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:13:29.27ID:DJiPvjgR0
Something about the power balance here just feels off
75Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:13:39.44ID:aIqqv9N10
Also, I'm pretty sure this guy would still sink the shot even if you passed him the ball mid-air right as he jumped
at this point the only fix is bombing the TV stations and canceling Oha Asa (the real morning-show horoscope segment his 'lucky items' parody)
78Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:14:52.59ID:I31dySF6a
>>75
Akashi: 'Can't you just steal the pass? (lol)'
76Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:14:27.81ID:j8j7xeD00
He'd struggle against a defender with elite physical ability marking him one-on-one, right?
Wouldn't he be unable to get a shot off against Aomine or Murasakibara too, not just Kagami?
79Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:16:39.26ID:YFgJbeYmM
>>76
Not sure about Murasakibara, but Aomine… I dunno
this guy's 195cm with a massive vertical to begin with, and in the whole series only five guys are even taller than him
81Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:18:57.01ID:QPibCgq+0
>>76
Wouldn't it actually help the team if Murasakibara, basically the best defender around, was the one assigned to guard Midorima?
80Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:18:28.83ID:ryY2jlQh0
Well, in the sense that one-on-one defense can deal with him, he might not be a huge deal under a one-man-carries-the-team premise
but between two teams built from equally matched players, the team with Midorima on it wins 100% of the time
89Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:30:57.39ID:eQ7gRw1v0
>>80
The only guys who can handle him one-on-one are Miracle-tier
even the Uncrowned Kings can't do anything about him, so despite the positional mismatch it fell to Akashi to guard him — and Akashi doesn't even blame the Uncrowned Kings for losing to Midorima, that's just treated as expected
84Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:21:23.89ID:T5iYpHu00
They pile way too much of a nerf on Kise just for plot convenience
the only copies that should clearly cost him something are Murasakibara's and reproducing Akashi's eye
86Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:23:23.12ID:I31dySF6a
>>84
Of course he'd get more tired than usual doing movements he doesn't normally do
85Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:22:37.01ID:WaptGi0Q0
Still, Aomine's the strongest!

↑ yeah, that's definitely not it
88Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:30:28.55ID:7yU8dBLi0
>>85
If you're counting defense too, maybe
87Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:28:28.48ID:jP2246ji0
If Midorima never misses, his team doesn't even need to prepare for rebounds — wouldn't they be unbeatable just by falling back on D?
91Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:33:11.06ID:aIqqv9N10
>>87
Actually, his teammates really do drop back whenever he shoots
plus there's that hang time that ignores the laws of physics
90Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:31:37.51ID:K30Qigib0
The fact that Midorima — the one power in this superpower battle manga that's barely physically explainable — ends up being the strongest just shows how badly the powers were designed, doesn't it?
95Anonymous2026/08/19(水) 01:37:16.37ID:P6dwYB2g0
>>90
Murasakibara's the most realistic one, honestly
