  • New Single Stalls at #372 on Amazon — 5ch Thread: ‘Reasons We Want Nijigasaki to End’

On 5ch’s Love Live! board, a thread titled “Reasons We Want Nijigasaki to End” filled up with complaints about live show pacing, fan manners, and sluggish CD sales.

The fact that AZUNA’s new single only reached #372 on Amazon’s chart on release day also became a talking point, with many voicing concern that the series is losing momentum.

No serial code bonus attached as usual, so it's basically confirmed to sell under 10,000 again.

Listened to what sounded like a radio drama on the Nijigasaki radio show —
I can tell they're trying to emulate Tomori's style, but it still comes off flat, like 'Shokupanman' (a plain, bland bread-head character).

    Re: #85
This guy's even better than me at pissing off Niji-shin.

    Background and Key Points

Since the AZUNA CD/#372 ranking data isn’t rich, I’ll ground the closer in Nijigasaki’s institutional background and pinpoint the actual fault line in the thread.

Nijigasaki High School Idol Club occupies a specific and slightly awkward slot in the Love Live! franchise: unlike μ’s and Aqours, it launched without a set 9-member cast and rotated focus characters, and it later formalized the “AZUNA” sub-unit (Asaka, Kasumi, Ai) as one of several smaller vocal groupings rather than a single unified idol group. Amazon’s daily music ranking is a real-time sales proxy, not a chart of record like Oricon, so a same-day position of #372 signals weak first-day pre-order momentum specifically, not final sales — and posters note the absence of a bundled serial code (commonly used in Japan to incentivize multi-copy purchases for lottery or event tickets) as the likely cause, since serial-code-less releases in this franchise have reliably undersold 10,000 copies before.

The thread doesn’t actually agree that Nijigasaki is collapsing — it splits between posters blaming structural issues (thin live setlists, a 30-minute mid-show break, weak songwriting inherited from a pattern they say goes back to Hatsune Aki-era μ’s/Aqours compositions) and posters just venting about fandom toxicity (harassment of staff/other franchises, the Kerorira account-deletion incident, an arrest unrelated to the group’s output). Those are two different complaints — content quality versus fan-community behavior — collapsed into one “reasons to end it” thread, which is why replies talk past each other.

What’s likely to be missed: Amazon JP daily rankings are extremely volatile and don’t capture CD shop or event-venue sales, which remain significant channels for idol-anime music in Japan, so #372 alone doesn’t confirm the “under 10,000” prediction posters are making.

  • Consumption Tax Cut Comes With Payouts for Small Farmers — 5ch: “Because They’re the LDP’s Voting Base”

Even as the government moves to cut the consumption tax on food to 1%, it is reportedly also coordinating a plan to offset the resulting lost revenue for small and micro-scale farming operations through subsidy payments tied to sales volume. On 5ch’s Newsflash+ (News Speed+) thread, arguments flared over the mechanics of tax-exempt and simplified-taxation businesses — with posters asking “why do only farmers get special treatment?” — alongside debate over how to fund a scheme estimated to cost several trillion yen.

On the 25th, the government began coordinating a plan to pay a fixed amount in subsidies to support small and micro-scale farming and fishing operations that stand to lose revenue from cutting the consumption tax on food and beverages to 1%. The scheme envisions offsetting the lost revenue based on the scale of each business’s sales, cushioning the blow to their operations. Details of the program and the payment amounts will be worked out during the compilation of the draft FY2027 budget, with a final decision by the end of 2026.

The government has presented an outline of the support plan to the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The goal is to ease the anxiety of businesses affected by the tax cut and ensure a smooth rollout of the reduced rate starting in April 2027.

Small-scale operators make up the vast majority of Japan’s agriculture and fisheries sector. Under the current system, businesses are exempt from remitting all or part of the consumption tax they collect on sales, and can keep that money as income instead. Businesses with annual sales of ¥10 million or less are fully exempt (“tax-exempt businesses”), while those with sales up to ¥50 million are partially exempt (“simplified-taxation businesses”).

Why would cutting the consumption tax make businesses lose revenue?
Isn't the consumption tax something consumers pay, with businesses just collecting it and passing it on to the government?
If the consumption tax goes down and prices drop, sales volume should basically go up, right?
So shouldn't businesses end up making MORE money?
    24AnonymousAug 25, 2026 21:48
    Re: #12
It's shown that way on receipts, but structurally it was never actually set up as businesses collecting it as an agent on the government's behalf.

    Consumption tax rates

    Denmark: 25% (food 25%)
    Norway: 25% (food 15%)
    Finland: 24% (food 14%)
    Japan: 10% (food 8%)

Japan's consumption tax is already low, so there's no need to cut it — or scrap it.

    Re: #40 Re: #1
Farmers are citizens too, you know?
Rice prices really should have risen in line with overseas inflation, which would have raised farmers' incomes.

The reason Japanese real wages aren't rising (why farmers' sales aren't growing) is that more and more people are relying on social security to live.

When you hand money to people like pensioners or welfare recipients — people whose income doesn't grow through economic activity — they try to stretch that money as far as it goes, so they buy the cheapest goods they can find.

Trading companies chasing that demand then import cheaper substitutes from third countries, and Japan's market fills up with cheaper goods.

Domestic-demand manufacturers respond to rising import costs for raw materials by holding down employee wages, just to meet the demand from people dependent on welfare.

For Japan to raise real wages, there's no way around it: cut pensions and welfare benefits for people under 80, and put to work the people who are healthy enough — thanks to longer healthy life expectancy — but choose not to.

Compensation for non-invoice-registered farmers and sole proprietors with ¥10 million in taxable sales: undecided — maybe several trillion yen too?

    Re: #74
The Abe administration aimed for large-scale corporatization of farming, but local agricultural committees teamed up with the Communist Party and put out statements opposing it, remember?

Japan's agriculture problem is that cultivated land per farmer is too small. But you can't buy or sell farmland without approval from the local agricultural committee.

I'd say the real problem with Japanese agriculture isn't JA (the farmers' co-op) — it's the agricultural committee system.
    76AnonymousAug 25, 2026 22:53
The invoice system stripped this loophole away from ordinary sole proprietors — so why are farmers the only ones getting a pass???
    79AnonymousAug 25, 2026 22:56
    Re: #76
Sole proprietors get the exact same treatment if they're not invoice-registered either — it's the so-called "windfall tax" problem.

The invoice system was introduced specifically to fix that windfall-tax problem, you know.
    86AnonymousAug 25, 2026 23:01

    Re: #129
    You've been played, man.
Cutting the consumption tax isn't the problem — if they're going to cut it, they should just raise the corporate tax to cover it.
Every single time they've raised the consumption tax up to now, they've paired it with a corporate tax cut, lol
Don't tell me you're one of the suckers who actually believed Abe's line that the consumption tax funds social security?
    144AnonymousAug 26, 2026 00:32
    Re: #135
Then income tax should go back to what it used to be too.

The consumption tax was originally introduced to shift the ratio of direct to indirect taxes, and income tax was lowered alongside it. The bottom income tax bracket needs to go back to 10% (excluding resident tax).

Also, Japan's corporate tax hasn't actually come down as much as people claim — that's exactly why, until fairly recently, Japan's effective corporate tax rate was the second-highest in the world.

    Background and Key Points

For readers unfamiliar with Japanese tax administration: businesses under ¥10 million in annual sales are “tax-exempt” and never have to remit the consumption tax they collect, while those under ¥50 million can use “simplified taxation,” paying a fixed deemed rate rather than reconciling actual input costs. Either way, a share of what customers pay at checkout stays with the business as extra income — a quirk widely called “eki-zei” (windfall tax). Japan’s October 2023 invoice system was designed specifically to close this loophole for ordinary sole proprietors by denying tax credits to non-registered vendors, but small farmers and fishers remain heavily untouched by it, which is why they’re singled out now for a compensation scheme as the food tax rate drops to 1% in April 2027.

The thread’s real fault line wasn’t over farmers getting money per se, but over the premise itself: several posters assumed the consumption tax is purely pass-through, so a rate cut should only raise sales volume and profit, never cause “lost revenue.” Others countered that the loss is specifically the shrinking eki-zei margin these operators currently pocket — a distinction the article’s framing glosses over.

What’s easy to miss is that this isn’t really an agriculture story so much as a tax-loophole story: the same windfall exists for any small non-invoice-registered sole proprietor, and posters noted the invoice reform already stripped that protection from everyone else. The thread also flagged, without resolving, how a multi-trillion-yen subsidy scheme squares with the government’s simultaneous pledge to avoid new deficit bonds.

Had the same thought back in season 1 — having the Demon Continent language come out as an untranslated mystery language is a questionable creative choice…

    Re: #354
Wasn't Nokopara's dialogue entirely in the demon tongue?
Atofe was speaking demon language in the PV too.
Kind of wish that once Rudeus switches over, Atofe would just talk normally, sounding like Japanese to us.
Zanoba and the others can stay in human language at that point, lol.

That's what happened when he reunited with Nanahoshi wearing the white mask —
only Sylphy got switched to human language.
She's actually speaking demon language the whole time normally.

Setting aside whether the multilingual staging was even necessary, Nokopara's voice actor's performance was really great.

Whenever there's a character present who can't understand the language, it's mystery language plus subtitles.
But like when Roxy went back home and there was nobody around who didn't understand it, they just do it in plain Japanese.

Nanahoshi's case is a "transportation," not a reincarnation.
Among transportation stories, plenty of series have characters desperately trying to get home — like "Arifureta," "Instant Death Cheat," "Reject Class," etc.
    494AnonymousAug 24, 2026 13:24

    "Woltania War Chronicle"
    It's a transportation story.
The protagonist does wail "I can't go back! I can't go back!"
Though he's just a regular DK (high school boy).
    510AnonymousAug 24, 2026 14:13
It's kind of odd that with dragonkin, elves, and demons all around, only the Man-God gets to exist, right?
Maybe the other races have their own gods too, and the Man-God lost to them, so now he's manipulating Rudeus through prophecy as revenge for something from the past.
    517AnonymousAug 24, 2026 14:36
Up through "The Familiar of Zero," desperately wanting to go home really was the standard theme, huh~
I guess it was really Konosuba and Tensura that changed that.
Even "Shambala wo Yuku Mono" had a shocking ending for its time.

There's Orsted the Dragon God, y'know!
Lord Perugius said the demon god Laplace is coming back — is that even for real?!

Back in season 1, after getting wrecked by Orsted, when he explained the situation to Ruijerd, Ruijerd said something like "The Ancient Six Gods, huh. Hard to believe right away, but I doubt you're lying," so the Ancient Six Gods probably did exist.

    Re: #517
In Tensura too, Rimuru's a reincarnator so he doesn't really want to go back (since he knows he's dead, going back isn't even an option), but the transported/summoned girl from Falmuth did want to go home.
Another transported character mentioned that the curse-word kept her from acting freely enough to even explore ways of getting back.
    582AnonymousAug 24, 2026 17:07
    Re: #517
Tensura isn't an "isekai transportation," it's an "isekai reincarnation via death," so going back to the original world wouldn't really mean much anyway —

that said, the ending is technically a "return home" ending, isn't it.

Though it might just be a pseudo return home.
    607AnonymousAug 24, 2026 18:13

Well, Rudeus's whole story is literally "Jobless Reincarnation" after all.
    https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81OZnAhp5TL.jpg

    Background and Key Points

Mushoku Tensei’s premise — a man reincarnated as Rudeus into a fantasy world after dying in disgrace — belongs to a specific Japanese genre split the thread itself invokes: “tensei” (reincarnation, usually via death, as in this show and Tensura/Konosuba) versus “isekai” transportation (summoned or dropped in alive, as with Nanahoshi here, or in Shield Hero and Zero no Tsukaima). That distinction matters because it determines whether “going home” is even a coherent goal — the dead can’t really return, which is why posters note Rimuru and Kazuma’s homesickness is moot while Nanahoshi’s is not. The royal-succession violence discussion leans on a real reference: the Jinshin War of 672 CE, in which Prince Ōama defeated his nephew Ōtomo for the throne after Emperor Tenji’s death, with succession later reverting to Tenji’s line — a genuine precedent for the lethal infighting the show depicts, not just authorial exaggeration.

The thread’s actual disagreement is narrower than “is royal murder realistic” — it’s about the demon-language staging: whether rendering Demon Continent speech as untranslated gibberish is a defensible device (used only when a non-speaker is on screen) or just inconsistent, since scenes without an outsider present switch back to plain Japanese for viewer convenience, as posters point out with the Roxy homecoming example.

What outside readers will likely miss: this is season three of an adaptation with a large, already-published web novel/light novel backlog, so plot mechanics like the anti-demon teleportation circle or Perugius’s exclusionary fortress aren’t improvised fan theories — they’re established worldbuilding the Japanese audience already treats as canon, not open questions.

  • Rice Prices Plunge as Reserve Rice Floods the Market — 5ch: ‘We’re Laughing All the Way to the Bank’

Private-sector rice inventories hit a record 2.43 million tons by the end of June, and prices have kept falling. Experts point to the government’s massive release of reserve rice as the cause of the glut, and on 5ch opinion split over how successive agriculture ministers Ishiba, Eto, and Koizumi handled it, and over whether JA (the agricultural co-op) or wholesalers bear the blame.

During the “Reiwa Rice Crisis,” the agricultural cooperatives’ rice collection and distribution practices were repeatedly blamed for driving up prices. But what’s happening now is the reverse: rice wholesalers who bought up 2025-harvest rice at high prices are dumping it at a loss, with some driven out of business or into bankruptcy — while newly harvested rice that has nowhere else to go is flowing back to JA.

Many in the rice industry and among experts point out that the government released far too much reserve rice, flooding the market. Private inventories hit a record 2.43 million tons at the end of June. With the previous year’s rice still piled up as the 2026 harvest comes in, farmers, JA, and wholesalers alike are all left bearing the burden of the collapsing rice price.

Three times a week is about my limit for pasta.
Gotta expand my sauce repertoire or I get sick of it.

    Background and Key Points

The Japanese government has held an emergency rice reserve since the 1990s, built after the 1993 crop failure, meant to be released only in genuine shortages. The 2024–25 “Reiwa Rice Crisis” saw retail prices roughly double amid poor 2023 harvests, panic buying tied to a Nankai Trough earthquake warning, and rising inbound tourism demand. Agriculture minister Eto Taku resigned after a gaffe about receiving free rice from supporters; his successor, Koizumi Shinjiro, broke with the reserve’s traditional buyback rules and sold it off in bulk, competitively priced, which crashed prices fast and boosted his popularity. JA (Japan’s agricultural cooperative network) still dominates the supply chain: it collects rice from farmers and pays them a “provisional payment” (gaisan-kin) before final settlement, a figure that effectively sets the wholesale price floor nationwide — the mechanism posters allude to in #154, not simple hoarding.

The thread doesn’t converge on one villain. Some blame JA and wholesalers for opportunistic pricing during the shortage; others blame Ishiba, Eto, and Koizumi for releasing reserves too late and then too aggressively, causing today’s glut; a third strand blames the media, or simply falling consumption as households shift to pasta and bread.

What’s missing is the boom-bust pattern this repeats: Japan has cut rice acreage for decades to prop up prices, so a shortage triggers overcorrection and vice versa. With wholesalers now going bankrupt selling 2025 stock at a loss and 2026 harvest already piling up, farmers face weak provisional payments again — likely seeding the next planting cutback and, eventually, the next shortage.

⑧ Keep driving the protagonist insane until Ryza hugs him

⑨ Finish it off with a "love you, Ryza" (NTR-style, i.e. a cuckolding-trope confession) to seal the deal

Honestly if you just want to enjoy it for free, the clips posted on X (Twitter) or here are more than enough

    Background and Key Points

Ryza — full name Reisalin Stout — is the protagonist of Koei Tecmo’s *Atelier Ryza*, part of the *Atelier* franchise that Gust has produced since 1997, built around alchemist heroines running workshops and crafting items. The chat service discussed here licenses her official voice actor for AI-generated speech, positioning it as a sanctioned “companion AI” product rather than fan-made software. This fits a broader pattern in Japan of turning “oshi” (favorite character) attachment into subscription revenue, using mobile-gacha-style mechanics — here, “conversation tokens” that ration exchanges the way stamina systems ration play sessions in gacha games, rather than a flat-rate chatbot subscription. Kochikame, cited repeatedly in the thread, is *Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo*, a slapstick manga/anime that ran from 1976 to 2016 and is a running joke in Japan for predicting later real-world gadgets and business schemes through its absurd plots, including telephone dating-club (telekura) storylines decades before smartphone apps existed.

The thread’s actual fault line isn’t really the pricing — almost everyone agrees it’s stingy — but whether the *Atelier* series itself still deserves respect, with posters splitting over whether *Ryza*, *Sophie*, and *Yumia* count as series highs or whether the franchise has nothing that qualifies as a “masterpiece” at all.

What’s easy to miss: this isn’t a rogue app exploiting Ryza’s image — it’s an officially licensed product, which is precisely why posters find the stinginess so jarring; an unlicensed fan bot charging like this would draw less outrage than a sanctioned one from the rights holder itself.

Opening Night Live for the overseas gaming event “gamescom 2026” kicked off at 2:30 AM Japan time, and comments poured into the live-reaction thread on the Hardware/Industry board throughout the show. While the Onimusha demo expansion and Xbox’s exclusive title announcements became hot topics, there were also complaints about the lack of notable titles early on, and some pointed out that Chinese games seem to be gaining more of a presence.

When something gets popular and everyone starts copying it, they all end up finishing around the same time lol

    Background and Key Points

Opening Night Live is Geoff Keighley’s pre-show for gamescom, the Cologne trade fair that is the largest consumer gaming expo in the world; Keighley (referred to in the thread only by first name) also runs The Game Awards and has run ONL as gamescom’s curtain-raiser since 2019. Cologne runs seven hours behind Japan, which is why a show timed for prime-time Europe lands at 2:30-3 AM JST for the 5ch crowd staying up to watch a live stream. The other institution looming over the thread is unstated but structurally important: Tokyo Game Show, Japan’s own industry showcase, held in September — several posters assume Nintendo is holding announcements back for a domestic Direct rather than giving anything to a German show, which is why the “nishi-kun” character (a recurring 5ch shorthand for an exaggerated Nintendo-fanboy poster, not a real named individual) gets ribbed for cheering a show with nothing playable on Switch 2.

The thread’s actual fault line isn’t Onimusha or Judas hype, both of which draw uncomplicated enthusiasm — it’s whether the show is a letdown. One camp calls the trailers hollow (“amazing cinematic trailer followed by lame in-game footage,” “zero hook”), while others are simply logging what got shown without judgment. Layered onto that is the Chinese-games observation: posters float a specific claim, that Chinese studios are skipping TGS for policy reasons and redirecting announcements to gamescom, but nobody in the thread offers a source, so it reads as speculation being treated as established fact.

  • Formaldehyde Found in Chinese Napa Cabbage After Video Goes Viral — What Does It Mean for Japan?

A video showing Chinese napa cabbage being “chemically treated” with formaldehyde has gone viral, prompting Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to say it is “still checking” whether the produce has entered Japan’s supply chain. On 5ch, posters worried about routes into children’s mouths, like school lunches, while others pointed to everyday Chinese-made foods — frozen gyoza, processed eel products — raising questions about how big the risk really is.

“Formaldehyde” Found in Chinese Napa Cabbage After “Chemical-Soaked” Video Spreads Online — Fallout Reaches South Korean Kimchi Too — What Does It Mean for Japan? Health Ministry Says “Still Checking”

Napa cabbage — a staple in hot pots, kimchi, and everyday cooking — is one of the most familiar vegetables on the dinner table.

On the 25th, in China, the world’s largest producer of the vegetable, a news crew witnessed cabbage being pulled from store shelves and thrown out.

    Re: #186
Even cucumbers have that harsh bitterness if you don't draw it out first. Same with potatoes and eggplant — that's why you soak them in water.

    Background and Key Points

Formaldehyde is not a novel toxin here — it’s a colorless preservative/disinfectant banned as a food additive under Japan’s Food Sanitation Act precisely because of this kind of misuse: applying it to fish or vegetables to mask spoilage and extend shelf life for the trip from farm to market. Japan’s own quarantine system does not inspect 100% of imported produce; it relies on spot sampling, which is why the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s response was a noncommittal “still checking” rather than a clearance or a recall. That caution also reflects institutional memory — Chinese food-safety scares (melamine-tainted milk in 2008, gutter oil, and now this) have repeatedly turned out worse than initial official statements suggested, so a “checking” label from Tokyo reads to many Japanese consumers as “assume the worst until proven otherwise” rather than “nothing to see here.”

The thread’s actual fault line wasn’t over whether formaldehyde is dangerous — almost no one defended the practice — but over how much individual choice consumers really have. One camp treated it as a simple market decision (pay more, buy domestic, problem solved), while others pointed out that school lunches and processed staples like frozen gyoza or kabayaki eel leave no such opt-out, especially for children who can’t choose their own food.

What the thread never addressed is that formaldehyde also occurs naturally at trace levels in many everyday foods — pears, shiitake mushrooms, smoked fish — and even in the human body as a metabolic byproduct. The real distinction, which the posts collapse together, is between negligible natural background levels and the concentrated industrial-grade application shown in the viral video, which is a food-safety violation regardless of dose.

    Re: #50
Seems like he could still get crab through furusato nozei (hometown tax donation gifts) though.

    Background and Key Points

Shareholder perks (yutai) are a distinctly Japanese practice: companies distribute discount coupons, gift certificates, or product samples to individual shareholders, on top of or instead of cash dividends, mainly to attract and retain small retail investors. Kiritani Hiroto built his entire public persona around this niche after his shogi career, becoming one of Japan’s best-known “yutai investors” through television appearances and books, someone who treats collecting and using perk coupons at chains like Matsuya as much a hobby as a financial strategy. Matsuya itself is one of Japan’s “big three” gyudon (beef bowl) chains alongside Yoshinoya and Sukiya, and its shift from ticket vending machines to QR-code ordering reflects a broader labor-shortage-driven push toward self-service automation in Japanese dining that would confuse even longtime customers, hence his comment about being thrown off.

The thread didn’t split over whether he’s entitled to spend his own money that way, nearly everyone agreed it’s his business, but over whether ¥700 million is actually impressive for a famous 76-year-old investor, and whether his health can sustain a diet built around cheap, greasy chain food into old age. Some framed the coupon habit as endearing frugality or even a longevity trick; others read it as needless stinginess given his wealth.

What outside readers likely miss is that yutai are typically untaxed in-kind benefits, unlike dividends, which is part of why serious yutai investors treat them as a distinct, efficient income stream rather than mere freebies, a distinction one poster raised but the framing of “why not just eat what you like” glosses over entirely.

  • “Momoiro Clover Z Invented Member Colors and Fan Names,” Claims Post — Johnny’s Fans Fire Back, 5ch Erupts in Debate

When a post claiming “Momoiro Clover Z originated member colors and fan names” was shared on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, fans of M!LK and Chou Tokkyu (Bullet Train) pushed back, arguing “that doesn’t apply to us — we have agency-official fan names.”

The thread saw pushback pointing out that Hello! Project already had member colors as far back as 2004, along with discussion citing photos of Berryz Koubou, and the argument over who was really “first” never converged, running on in parallel lines to the end.

    Re: #176
    What do you mean?

    Background and Key Points

Momoiro Clover Z (“Momoiro Clover Z” / Momoclo) is a Stardust Promotion idol group formed in 2008, and the debate here sits inside a much older idol-industry practice. “Member colors” — assigning each member of a group a signature color used in merchandise, penlights, and stage costumes — is a convention that predates Momoclo by years; Hello! Project, the umbrella idol organization behind groups like Morning Musume and Berryz Kobo, was already using the system by 2004, as posters in the thread note. Likewise, fan nicknames for idol groups are a broader Japanese fandom tradition, not something any single group “invented.” “Monofu” is the fan nickname for Momoiro Clover Z supporters, while M!LK and Chou Tokkyu (Bullet Train) are Johnny’s (male idol agency) groups whose fans clashed with the original poster.

The thread never actually resolves the historical question it opens with. It splits mainly on emphasis: some posters flatly reject the “originated” claim as false, pointing to Hello! Project’s 2004-era precedent, while others concede a softer version — that Momoiro Clover Z may not have invented member colors or fan names, but popularized or pushed the practice more aggressively than earlier groups. That distinction between “invented” and “popularized” is where the real disagreement lives, even though most replies talk past each other rather than engaging it directly.

What outside readers should not take away is that this is a factual dispute with an answer being argued out — it’s an inter-fandom rivalry post (a “Monofu vs. Johnny’s-ota” flame war) using a dubious historical claim as ammunition. No poster brings up earlier, non-Hello!Project precedents either, such as Showa-era idol merchandising or AKB48’s own color/nickname conventions, which would undercut both sides equally.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello!Project board) thread “A Monofu declares war on Johnny’s fans bashing M!LK and Chou Tokkyu: “Momoiro Clover Z invented member colors and fan names, don’t underestimate Stardust.” lol“.

    Background and Key Points

I just want to date a normal person 😭 sigh…

The “Newsspeed VIP” board on 5ch is one of Japan’s largest anonymous forums, and “Chatting with Maaya Until Dawn” belongs to a long-running genre there: a single regular poster becomes a recurring character whose late-night confessions turn into a running soap opera for the board’s regulars. Posters track a user’s identity not by name but by their poster ID’s trailing character, which is why several replies fixate on whether Maaya’s ID ended in “r,” “d,” or “0” — Japanese mobile carriers rotate IP addresses assigned to phones, so the ID string can shift mid-session even for the same person, feeding running jokes about “impostor” posts. That background matters because most of the thread isn’t really about romance; it’s about board members re-establishing that this is genuinely the same Maaya they’ve talked to before.

Where the thread actually splits is over her line that “people can only date others on their own level.” Some read it as fatalistic self-deprecation, others (as in the final reply) treat it as an unexpectedly sharp piece of dating philosophy — the disagreement is about how seriously to take a very online, half-joking confession, not about whether the maxim is true.

What outside readers will likely miss is that Maaya’s “happy memory” — a married coworker who kept talking to her, showing her an old anime ruler — is presented and received by the board as bittersweet nostalgia rather than as a red flag or a come-on; no poster in the thread frames it as something to worry about.
