  • Is the Only Point of Conversation to ‘Get Closer’ to Someone? 5ch Debate Goes in Circles

“Isn’t the only point of talking to someone to become closer with them?” A question posted to 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board sparked a long back-and-forth. The thread’s original poster repeated the claim that “even if there are benefits, that’s all conversation really amounts to,” while other posters pushed back with arguments like “you can learn things you didn’t know” and “you can gain insights.” The discussion gradually shifted into a semantic battle over the difference between “meaningless” and “not feeling the need for it,” and the two sides never reached common ground.

    1AnonymousAug 29, 2026 09:07
It seems like there's no meaning beyond getting closer to the other person.
    48AnonymousAug 29, 2026 09:32
You don't know what the benefits are until you actually talk to someone, right?

I'm the one who brought up intellectual curiosity, and you're the one who threw in the baffling afterthought that "a conversation that satisfies intellectual curiosity isn't really a conversation."

    Re: #54
For example, gaining some kind of insight.

    Re: #46
Oh, you're another one who doesn't get it. I never said anything about what's necessary for a conversation.
    52AnonymousAug 29, 2026 09:34
    Re: #49
No, that's not what I meant either. If you don't feel conversation has meaning, I wanted to know what you think is unnecessary versus necessary. It's not about what's needed for a conversation.
    57AnonymousAug 29, 2026 09:36
    Re: #52
I never said conversation is meaningless. I'm just asking what meaning it has beyond getting closer to someone.

Isn't that included under "getting closer"?

Don't you think there's no actual need to get closer? I'm not just playing word games here.

    Re: #91
Do you mean "there's no need to attach the meaning of getting closer to conversation," or do you mean "even without getting closer, conversation still has meanings like not making enemies, so you don't need to talk in order to get closer"? I used the phrase "you can enjoy benefits," but I'm not saying I only have practical gain in mind when I talk to people. I'm simply saying that's about all the meaning conversation has.
    100AnonymousAug 29, 2026 10:06
    Re: #97
Hypothetically, if there's someone you have no desire to get closer to, do you think there's no meaning in talking to them?
    108AnonymousAug 29, 2026 10:11
    Re: #97
For the first question, it's the former. And it comes down to whether you equate "meaning" with "necessity." What I want to get at is how a person comes across and is treated by others, from a third party's point of view.
    128AnonymousAug 29, 2026 10:59
Kind of a late question, but do you have any close acquaintances you feel are worth talking to?

    132AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:21
    Re: #129
Then it's fine, isn't it? If you had nobody, that'd be rough, and people would say "build some relationships first before you say that." But if you do have people, then it's just a normal thing to say "talking with people you're not close to or don't click with isn't fun."
    143AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:43
    Re: #140
Calling that meaningless is you rejecting other people. Just because you're not interested in something doesn't mean nobody is.

    149AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:50
    Re: #146
What exactly is your point, I wonder? At the very least, responding to "I see no meaning whatsoever in learning about someone I'm not interested in" with "just because you're not interested in something doesn't mean nobody is" makes it seem like you're not even trying to have a real conversation with me.
    152AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:53
    Re: #149
By the way, what makes you become interested in someone in the first place? Surely you'll answer that much.
    157AnonymousAug 29, 2026 11:58
    Re: #149
I'm saying it's weird because you're presenting your personal opinion — that there's no point talking about things you're not interested in — as if it were a general rule.
    159AnonymousAug 29, 2026 12:00
    Re: #157
I never said there's no point in talking about it. I'm just saying that even if you did, it would have no meaning to me. Take weather forecasts — they matter a lot to people who live in or plan to visit that area, and they don't matter to people who don't. I'm only saying something that obvious. I've completely lost interest in you since you can't even grasp something this simple. That's all there is to it.
    164AnonymousAug 29, 2026 12:02
    Re: #159
No, that's exactly the point — you're limiting yourself to just "meaning." The way you jump straight to thinking other people are stupid is exactly what's creating your tunnel vision. Meaning, in the end, is always something added after the fact.

If you read back through the log you'll see I never needed anyone to sympathize with me — I welcome even negative opinions. If your reading comprehension is so poor that you can't even follow what I'd call completely ordinary reading comprehension, I suppose even this explanation still isn't enough for you.
    190AnonymousAug 29, 2026 12:26
    Re: #182
I see, so it's basically a question you don't want to answer because it's inconvenient for you, got it. In other words, whenever something's inconvenient for you, you interpret it as the other person lacking intelligence to justify yourself. That's how you probably operate in real life too — you cope with the fact that other people aren't interested in you by chalking it up to their poor reading comprehension, putting others down to prop yourself up.
    230AnonymousAug 29, 2026 14:41
    Re: #182
Even going back through the log, you're dodging every single point people actually want answered lol. This thread's just here to rub people the wrong way, isn't it?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

This thread is a textbook example of how the kind of talking-past-each-other over definitions that’s common on anonymous forums can escalate. The original poster never budged from the premise that “conversation has no meaning beyond getting closer to someone,” while those pushing back treated “meaning,” “necessity,” and “value” as separate concepts — and this mismatch in terminology is a big part of why the discussion never quite connected. Because text-only exchanges don’t convey tone of voice or facial expression, minor nitpicks over wording are easily read as personal attacks, and as the thread went on, the focus shifted away from the actual content toward repeatedly questioning whether the other side had correctly understood one’s argument. There’s no clear right answer to a philosophical question like this one, and the two sides never closed the gap between their positions.

  • Sandwichman’s Mikio Date Hospitalized After Stroke — Risk Factors Include High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Smoking, and Obesity

Mikio Date (51), one half of the comedy duo Sandwichman, has been hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for a stroke, his talent agency announced on its official website on August 28. The diagnosis came after he complained of feeling unwell and underwent tests; thanks to swift action from medical staff, his condition didn’t become serious. On the forum, discussion centered on the risk factors named in the announcement — high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, and obesity — with many pointing to his long history as a heavy smoker and others urging better exercise and diet. Still, some argued it ultimately comes down to “luck and genetics,” splitting opinion on how much of health is really within one’s own control.

What is the stroke Sandwichman’s Mikio Date suffered from… risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, and obesity

Sandwichman’s Mikio Date (51) has been hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for a stroke, according to an announcement on the official website on the 28th. He will reportedly take time off to focus fully on treatment for now.

The announcement was addressed “To our fans and everyone involved,” and stated: “Mikio Date of Sandwichman, who belongs to our agency, recently complained of feeling unwell, underwent tests at a hospital, and was diagnosed with a stroke.” It went on to explain the current situation: “Thanks to the swift response of the medical staff, fortunately it did not become serious, and he is currently receiving inpatient treatment.” He will focus on treatment and rest for the time being.

'Reading Diet,' by Genichiro Takahashi, Part 1

    https://www.php.co.jp/atch_books_ogp.php?9784569905372.jpg

The health book in question is 'The Art of Living Long' (lit. 'The Method Against Illness: The Power of Eating Very Little') by Luigi Cornaro (translated and annotated by Genki Nakakura, PHP Institute).

The author of this book is Luigi Cornaro, a Venetian nobleman from Renaissance Italy.
For reference, Cornaro was born in 1464 and died in 1566 — meaning he lived to the age of 102.
Coming from someone who lived that long, the health advice carries maximum credibility.

Being a nobleman, Cornaro spent his younger years indulging in excessive eating and drinking.
As a result, his body fell apart, and by his 40s he was hovering near death.

His doctors told him he had little time left to live as he was, and that his only hope of survival was to drastically cut back on what he ate.
Cornaro did exactly as told — and remarkably, he recovered his health and went on to live past the age of 100.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

A stroke occurs when a blood vessel becomes blocked and blood flow to the brain stops. The risk factors named in the official announcement — high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, and obesity — are all medically recognized as major contributors to arteriosclerosis. On the thread, many commenters focused on smoking as the likely primary cause, but it’s worth noting that this reflects speculation among 5ch users rather than any actual information about Date’s smoking habits — the official announcement didn’t specify this. On the topic of exercise, the discussion pushed back against the simple idea that “walking makes you healthy”: some pointed out that walking alone does little for weight loss if your diet doesn’t change, while others noted cases of knee and heel injuries from excessive walking, raising the point that both exercise and diet need to be addressed together. A trivia comment claiming that “the average life expectancy in the frugal-eating Edo period was only in the 30s-40s” also came up, but this is a commonly misread figure — it’s heavily skewed downward by high infant mortality, and needs to be considered separately from actual adult lifespans at the time.

  • Switch’s Tetris Drops 86% in Price — Pricing Error Suspected, Nintendo Declines to Comment

The Switch puzzle game Tetris, normally priced around ¥594, was reported on a forum thread to be listed at an even steeper discount on the Nintendo eShop. Some posters claimed the original price was actually ¥4,500, and since the current price is far lower than expected, speculation spread that this was a pricing error. Some analysis pointed to the possibility that the regular and sale prices had been accidentally swapped with those of Lumines Remastered, another title released around the same time, sparking debate over the cause. With no official correction announced by Nintendo, rumors also circulated that the sale had been pulled entirely, leaving the thread in a swirl of unconfirmed speculation.

Front Mission's pricing is definitely intentional, aiming for a synergy effect — it's not a mistake
There's no way they'd throw away expected profit and not correct it

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nintendo has issued no official announcement explaining the discount, so the thread’s theories rest purely on circumstantial evidence. The leading theory is that the regular and sale prices of Tetris and Lumines Remastered — another title released around the same time — got swapped, though this remains unconfirmed. There have been past cases of major publishers acknowledging pricing errors and correcting them within a few days, and the Nintendo eShop is also said to require a certain number of days to issue corrections, but that too is just hearsay within the thread. Opinions were split on whether it’s fair to buy the game knowing it might be a mistake, with some arguing that a price officially displayed by Nintendo can’t be a problem, while others likened it to piracy. There are also reports that the sale was pulled and sales suspended, but without an official statement, this should still be treated as unconfirmed.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “[Freebie Flash Report] Switch’s Tetris is 86% off due to a pricing error! Ends tomorrow!“.

  • Giants’ Shunsuke Urata Dating Ex-=LOVE Idol Nagisa Saito — 5ch: ‘The Female Hierarchy Has Changed’

On August 30, Weekly Bunshun reported that Yomiuri Giants player Shunsuke Urata (23), a leading candidate for Central League Rookie of the Year, is dating actress Nagisa Saito (23), a former member of the idol group =LOVE. Urata has broken out this season and currently leads the league in stolen bases, while Saito has appeared in projects including the live-action adaptation of “Oshi no Ko.” A thread on 5channel’s entertainment/sports board buzzed with debate over Urata’s height and salary and Saito’s name recognition, with some users even arguing that the pecking order among popular women has shifted.

Weekly Bunshun’s reporting has revealed that Shunsuke Urata (23) of the Yomiuri Giants — the front-runner for this season’s Central League Rookie of the Year and a runaway league leader in stolen bases — is in a serious relationship with actress Nagisa Saito (23), a former member of the idol group “=LOVE.”

The Giants, currently in second place in the Central League, are locked in a fierce pennant race with the first-place Hanshin Tigers. Back in May, shortly after the season opened, then-manager Shinnosuke Abe was arrested over a domestic dispute (charges were later dropped) and resigned — an unprecedented turn of events that saw acting manager Hashigami take over the team’s helm. Amid all that, Urata’s emergence has been a very welcome surprise for the Giants.

“Urata is a graduate of Nagasaki’s prestigious Kaisei High School and has Koshien experience. After going on to Kyushu Sangyo University, he was picked up by the Giants in the second round of the 2024 draft. In his rookie season last year he made the opening-day roster but didn’t leave much of an impression. This year, with regular second baseman Naoki Yoshikawa sidelined by injury, he won a spot on the opening-day roster,” said one sports-newspaper reporter.

Haven't you watched Oshi no Ko? Ruby's the real lead even as an idol — she's just not center because her character's written as a bad singer.

    Background and Talking Points

So-called “Bunshun bombshell” scoops about celebrity relationships aren’t limited to entertainers dating each other — active pro baseball players are frequent targets too. Urata’s path to this season’s opportunities began with an injury to regular second baseman Naoki Yoshikawa, and this report landed while the Giants were in the middle of a pennant race under the unusual circumstance of having lost their manager mid-season. Saito has built up a track record in dramas and films as an actress since =LOVE disbanded, and the thread showed a clear gap in awareness between users who knew about her role in “Oshi no Ko” and those who didn’t. Comments about his height and alleged number-fudging were based purely on speculation within the thread, without any official confirmation. It’s also notable that the thread got more worked up over tangential topics — like the innocent question of “how do celebrities even meet each other” and claims that the pecking order among popular women (actress > idol > TV announcer) has shifted — than over the dating news itself.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt/summary from the 5channel (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “[Bunshun] “Holding hands like lovers…” Former =LOVE member Nagisa Saito (23) spotted on close date with rookie-of-the-year favorite Shunsuke Urata (23) of the Giants {Scoop Photos} [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • “How Do You Get NEETs to Work?” 5channers Debate: Laziness or Broken System?

A thread titled “Let’s seriously think about how to save (get working) NEETs today” popped up on 5ch’s Newsflash VIP board, but the discussion quickly drifted away from concrete solutions and into a clash over whether NEETs are simply “spoiled” or victims of structural issues like Japan’s new-graduate hiring system and academic credentialism. The original poster, who revealed he’s a civil servant earning 6.2 million yen a year, drew fire from those arguing “it’s rich to have an easy job yourself while telling others to take low-paying work,” while others fired back that “there are jobs anyone can get hired for — not working is just being spoiled.” Plenty of replies also pointed out how bullying-driven school refusal and the difficulty of re-entering the job market after missing the new-graduate hiring window complicate the picture.

    Re: #92
    Seriously.
This guy calls trivial stuff “effort” and lectures people to just do it.
His idea of “effort” is probably something like:
(grumbling “ugh, so tired” while cramming for entrance exams with friends)
(grumbling “ugh, so tired” while having a blast at university with friends)
(grumbling “ugh, so tired” while cheerfully landing your “dream job” through new-grad hiring with everyone around you)
(grumbling “ugh, so tired” while your girlfriend keeps you satisfied and you breeze through new-hire training with coworkers)
(grumbling “ugh, so tired” while getting laid nonstop by your girlfriend, occasionally cramming for some throwaway certification, and picking your nose your way up to a raise)
That's about the level of “effort” we're talking — not really effort at all.

He's only ever lived a life that soft, so he probably doesn't get that once you miss university and the new-grad hiring window, society doesn't even let you attempt this kind of “effort” anymore — you're flatly denied the chance to even try for your “dream job.”

Personally I think just working at all, at any age, is admirable — but in reality, if it's not “appropriate for your age,” you get mocked for it.
NEETs are afraid of that, so they aim for a come-from-behind home run — landing a well-treated job out of nowhere — which is why they're obsessed with getting certifications.
NEETs are weirdly fixated on qualifications, aren't they?

It's effortless, and lecturing people from above while basking in a sense of superiority feels great.

I think that's exactly what happens when nobody bothers to ask “why” from the person's own side.

There's probably a lot of variety among NEETs, but I think some of them could absolutely reintegrate into society.
I think the right move is to start by helping the group that looks relatively easiest to bring back first.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

In Japan, the deeply entrenched practice of “new-graduate lump-sum hiring” (shinsotsu ikkatsu saiyō) means anyone who doesn’t land a full-time job straight out of school tends to be at a disadvantage in the job market from then on — and it’s long been pointed out that this structure makes it hard for people who missed the new-graduate window due to bullying or school refusal to get a second chance. Where opinions in the thread split was over where to draw the line between calling this “individual laziness” versus “a flaw in the social system,” and neither side showed much sign of budging. There were also concerns raised about reliance on welfare, and about the psychology of chasing a single certification for a comeback, but much of the back-and-forth tended to slide into emotional exchanges built around each other’s income or career history — and how little in the way of concrete solutions actually came up is something that’s easy to miss from the thread text alone.

On the August 29 live radio broadcast, Sandwichman’s Takeshi Tomizawa explained the circumstances behind his comedy partner Mikio Date’s hospitalization for a stroke (脳梗塞, cerebral infarction), which forced Date to pause his activities the day before. According to Tomizawa, when the pair met up that morning, Date himself said, “Something’s wrong, I can’t talk,” and Tomizawa immediately told him to go to the hospital, where he was admitted on the spot. Tomizawa shared that they’ve been exchanging messages and that Date is “doing fine both mentally and physically,” offering some reassurance — but on 5ch, users focused on what kind of treatment he’s receiving, pointed out that strokes tend to recur, and voiced concern about the dietary changes he’ll likely need going forward.

Date is currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment. Explaining the circumstances, Tomizawa said, “I was working that day, and in the morning when we met up, [Date] said, ‘Something’s wrong, I can’t talk,’ so I told him, ‘Get to a hospital right now,’ and he went, and I guess he was admitted right there.” He said the two have been exchanging messages frequently and reported that Date is “doing really well, both mentally and physically.”

Hideki Saijo had multiple strokes too. Scary to think that even with a physique like his it still happened — makes "zero calorie" claims kind of terrifying.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

A stroke (cerebral infarction) occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel and cuts off blood flow; in the acute phase, treatment commonly involves catheter-based clot removal or placing a stent to restore circulation. Within the thread, opinions differed over what Date meant by saying he “couldn’t talk” — whether it meant he was literally unable to make sounds, or whether it referred to a speech impairment such as slurred or difficult speech, and reactions to the news varied accordingly. Strokes are also known to recur, and since singer Hideki Saijo passed away after suffering multiple strokes, some commenters took a more cautious view, saying Tomizawa’s description of Date as “doing fine” shouldn’t necessarily be taken at face value. Going forward, Date is expected to need a major overhaul of his diet centered on limiting salt and fat.

  • Mass Food Poisoning at Komeo’s Restaurant Sickens 76 — 5ch: ‘Of Course They Used Bare Hands’

At a food stall run by “fighting chef” Komeo’s restaurant “Kappo Komeo” during Tokyo’s Azabu-Juban Summer Festival on August 22-23, numerous customers who ate the chilled crab ramen fell ill. According to the Minato Public Health Center, 76 people had reported fever, diarrhea, and vomiting as of the 28th, and the case is being investigated as a mass food poisoning outbreak. On 5ch, footage from the stall sparked accusations of bare-handed food handling and poor hygiene management, while others speculated the pre-made soup — rather than the crab itself — was to blame, leaving opinions split over the actual cause.

“Fighting chef” Komeo is at the center of a mass food poisoning controversy.

A wave of people fell ill at the “Azabu-Juban Summer Festival” held on the 22nd and 23rd this month. According to the Minato Public Health Center, 76 people had reported symptoms including fever, diarrhea, and vomiting as of the 28th. Many of them had eaten the chilled crab ramen served by “Kappo Komeo,” the restaurant where Komeo serves as owner, and an investigation by the health center and others is underway.

If it's business waste, you pay a disposal fee no matter the amount.

Background and key points of this story

Under the Food Sanitation Act, when 50 or more people fall ill from the same cause, public health centers are required to report it up through the prefecture to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare — meaning the figure of 76 is well above that threshold. Komeo is known as a “fighting chef” who moved into the restaurant business after serving time for robbery, and his past has repeatedly come up in the thread. The restaurant has stated that “the product itself was not reused,” but this statement refers only to already-served food, not to the ingredients or soup base used in preparation. Commenters raised several parallel possibilities — a soy-milk-based corn soup, gloves reused on camera, and water that never reached a boil — and it remains a common misunderstanding that the crab itself has been confirmed as the cause. The health center’s final investigation results have not yet been released.

Ishikawa-based Mitani Corporation has reportedly set starting salaries for kosen (technical college) graduates higher than those of university graduates who are two years older, sparking discussion on 5ch’s News Express+ board. More manufacturers are indeed reevaluating skilled high-school-grad workers and promoting more of them into management. That said, at major companies, promotion slots for management (section chief, department head) are still mostly reserved for university/graduate-school-educated career-track staff. Nationwide, the route from technical-high-school grad to department-head level (12 million yen/year) by one's late 40s/early 50s remains limited to exceptional cases or a narrow track for those who rose through the ranks on-site.

Quite a few kosen grads go on to schools like Toyohashi University of Technology or Nagaoka University of Technology, and then continue to grad school at a top national university. In that case, their final degree is a master's or doctorate from that grad school, which ranks above a 4-year University of Tokyo bachelor's degree. There are jobs out there that won't even hire University of Tokyo grads if all they have is a bachelor's.

The son of the cleaning shop near me went from kosen straight into NHK, and the pay was good enough that he built a house in both Tokyo and back home. Right now every country is short on electrical engineers due to demand for data center construction — I saw a news story about one company offering 10 million yen to a fresh technical-high-school grad. In a Nippon Steel-related news piece, I also saw an article about an electrical engineer shortage in the US. Some companies sponsor regional kosen and help maintain their school facilities, and depending on the company, they'll send instructors to teach or provide equipment — really investing in these schools. Some kosen even have cleanrooms. It's not well known, but the ties between kosen and companies are strong.

Wait, this is Mitani Corp? I'm holding it for the 「皿」(stock kept as collateral for margin trading) — I honestly have no idea what the company even does lol. It's the biggest gainer among the individual stocks I own.

Background and key points of this discussion

Kosen (technical colleges) are 5-year institutions students enter after junior high school, and their institutional standing differs from that of universities. In recent years, driven by a shortage of engineers in electrical, semiconductor, and data-center-related fields, the market value of kosen graduates — who can contribute as immediate assets — has been rising, and Mitani Corporation’s starting-salary reversal can be seen as one example of this trend. Opinions on the thread split over whether academic credentials or practical ability should be valued more: some praised kosen grads’ usefulness on-site, while others pointed out that university grads still hold the advantage when it comes to promotion into management or lifetime earnings. Worth noting — and easily overlooked in debates that simply rank education as high school, kosen, or university — is that kosen grads who go on to graduate school at institutions like Toyohashi University of Technology end up with their final degree counted as a graduate degree.

  • U18 Send-Off Game Has 5ch Buzzing With Koshien Alumni Callbacks

On August 29, a send-off match was held between the U18 national team (Japan’s high school all-star squad) and the university national team, and a live-commentary thread went up on 5ch’s Newsoku VIP board. True to the board’s famous “Mamono Koshien” bit (a longtime 5ch tradition of comparing current players to legendary stars of past tournaments), commentators got a kick out of likening the players on the field to standouts from past Spring and Summer Koshien tournaments. The thread also covered pitchers’ form, the game’s special rules (nine innings, no mercy rule, wooden bats), and whether it was even being broadcast.

    * Yamazato Takara (Kobe Kokusai University Fuzoku — shortstop)
A gem of a player (his name literally means "treasure/gem") who captivated thread regulars with his rare defensive skill at the spring 2021 tournament.
His hitting at Senbatsu was middling, but in this tournament's opener against Hokkai he ripped three doubles, turning himself into a two-base-hit factory.
In the second round he pulled off two more flawless defensive plays and showed plenty on offense too.
And of course, his wide defensive range is as sharp as ever — a gem-like performance on both sides of the ball. Please, never leave us.

Or are the high schoolers using wood too?

    * Nakayama Yuzuki (Chiben Gakuen — pitcher/shortstop)
Chiben Gakuen's last line of defense. On a team whose fielding is basically Chiben-Wakayama-grade shaky across the board this year (thread shorthand for "sloppy defense"), Nakayama is nearly the only one holding it together. Word was that without him, both the infield and outfield would fall apart.
Also, on a team whose bullpen is a dumpster fire pretty much everywhere this year, he's nearly the only one pitching consistently. It was said that if he doesn't take the mound, the game falls apart.
Which leaves thread regulars in an agonizing bind: put Nakayama on the mound and the defense collapses, but leave him at shortstop and the pitching staff gets torched instead.

    Background and Talking Points

A send-off match is a tune-up game where Japan’s younger national squads get real-game reps against strong opposition ahead of an international tournament; this time it was the U18 team (Japan’s high school all-star squad) against the university national team. The tournament rules — nine innings, no mercy rule, no extra innings, DH allowed, wooden bats — follow international tournament standards. What really got the thread going was 5ch VIP’s signature “Mamono Koshien” bit, where posters compare the players on the field to past standouts from Senbatsu and Koshien — a shortstop who made his name on defense, an ace who single-handedly carried both the fielding and the pitching — in-jokes that are hard to follow unless you were around for the original threads’ buzz. At the same time, there was plenty of practical back-and-forth too, on pitchers’ form, tournament rules, and broadcast info (no terrestrial TV, but streaming on Virtual Koshien) — so the thread worked not just as nostalgia bait but as a genuine live-commentary thread for following the game.

  • Hanshin’s Morishita Forced Out by Hit-By-Pitch Injury — 5ch Reacts: ‘This Is Bad’

On August 29, 2026, in the 7th inning of the Giants–Tigers game at Koshien Stadium, Hanshin’s Morishita was struck near the left hand by a pitch from Giants pitcher Akahoshi and was forced to leave the game injured. News reports described the stadium as “in an uproar” and said “fans from both sides got into a fight,” and it became a huge topic on 5ch’s live-game thread. Posts were split between those pushing back with “go watch the replay” over whether it was intentional, and others treating the beaning as amusing, while the thread’s discussion also spread to the Giants’ cold bats and Dalbec’s updated strikeout record.

If they keep issuing intentional walks to the bottom of the order like today and it backfires,

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Whether the hit-by-pitch was intentional is left to the umpire’s judgment, and opinions in the thread were split — some pushed back citing replay footage to argue it “wasn’t intentional.” Worth noting: the “Arlington rule” mentioned in the discussion is an unwritten rule in baseball about holding off on stealing bases late in a lopsided game, not an official rule. On the game itself, it was also a hot topic that the Giants’ Dalbec reached a franchise-record 153 strikeouts in a season, surpassing Kazuhiro Kiyohara’s 1997 mark. It’s also worth noting that the reported “fight between fans of both teams in the stands” wasn’t something detailed with eyewitness accounts within the 5ch thread itself — it’s simply a description from the source article being cited.
