  • AI Industry Needs $6 Trillion a Year in Revenue by 2031, Says Bain — 5ch: ‘That’s Less Than I Expected’

Major US consulting firm Bain has estimated that the global AI industry needs to generate $6 trillion (roughly ¥944 trillion) in annual revenue by 2031 to justify the capital being poured into data center construction around the world. On 5ch, many commenters reacted to the figure by saying it was ‘less than I expected,’ while others raised skepticism about the sheer scale of electricity AGI would require, pointed to a ‘game of chicken’ structure where companies keep racing to invest despite bleeding money, and voiced concern that data centers are straining local water and power supplies.

Every single person on Earth (all 8 billion) would need to pay about $700/year (¥110,000) in subscriptions for that to add up.
Well, companies could pay around $70,000 (¥10 million) per employee replaced with AI. That's one more person out of a job, though…
If you replace 100 million high-paid white-collar workers worldwide at roughly $70,000 (¥10 million) of AI spend each, the math could work out — but the middle class gets wiped out globally, and you end up with a Great Depression.

Anthropic actually turned profitable in the April–June quarter.
Quite the contrast with OpenAI, which significantly widened its losses.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This estimate was put together by US-based Bain & Company in the second half of 2025. It holds that to recoup the enormous capital being poured into the worldwide data center construction boom, AI-related businesses need to generate roughly $6 trillion in annual revenue by 2031. Current AI company revenues fall far short of that figure, and while many thread commenters reacted with ‘that’s less than I expected,’ plenty of others pointed to constraints beyond mere profitability — strained power and water resources, and the risk borne by power companies that have already committed capital to expanding infrastructure for data centers. Some also noted that Anthropic turned profitable in the April–June quarter of 2025 while OpenAI’s losses widened — a lesser-known fact showing that even AI companies can have very different revenue structures.

  • Tried to Write “Ephemeral” (泡沫), Got “Splash” (飛沫) and “Millet-Pine” (粟松) Instead — 5ch: “This Is Basically a Comedy Skit”

A thread appeared on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (“Geha”) board about a poster who meant to type “ephemeral” (泡沫, houmatsu) but had it autocorrect to “splash” (飛沫, himatsu) instead — then, trying to fix the mistake, mistyped it again into the nonsense word “millet pine” (粟松, awamatsu). Adding insult to injury, another user misread that “粟松” as “chestnut pine” (栗松, kurimatsu), triggering a chain of three separate typos in a row. While the thread erupted in laughter with comments like “this is basically a comedy skit at this point,” some posters singled out the original poster for ridicule, others speculated the errors came from voice-to-text input, and the back-and-forth mockery kept going for a while.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“泡沫” is properly read as “houmatsu” — the reading “awamatsu” doesn’t actually exist. It appears the original poster attempted the conversion without knowing the correct reading, mistyping what should have been “himatsu” as “飛沫” (splash), then, while trying to correct it, mis-converted “awamatsu” into “粟松” (millet pine) as well. On the Gaming Hardware board, minor typos and conversion errors like this are frequently mocked as evidence of the poster’s own ignorance, and this thread is a textbook example of that pattern. It’s also worth noting that the phrase “書き田中った” (“wrote-it-Tanaka’d”) isn’t a reference to any specific person — it’s simply wordplay poking fun at the mis-conversion itself.

Background and Key Points of Discussion

A notable feature of this announcement is that it’s being made at an overseas event, New York Comic Con — in recent years, more and more popular titles like “ONE PIECE” and “Dragon Ball” have timed their new information reveals to overseas events. The original article only mentions a “brand-new anime,” without clarifying whether it centers on Naruto himself, adapts manga material that hasn’t been animated yet, or tells an entirely new story. The thread also raised the question of whether this is really about Naruto rather than his son Boruto — that will have to wait for more details on October 10. Many commenters claimed Naruto is “more popular overseas,” but it’s worth noting this is based on personal impressions rather than any concrete sales or viewership figures presented in the thread.

  • Toyama City Faces Population-Padding Scandal, Ministry Launches On-Site Inspection — 5ch: “Just to Save Face?”

In Toyama City’s national census, suspicion has emerged that city officials treated households the census takers had struck off — for having no actual residents — as “existing,” without any basis. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications views this as an inflation of the population count and has launched an on-site investigation; media outlets have also reportedly received a tip alleging similar padding occurred in the census five years ago. On the forum, opinions were split over whether the motive for the padding was to boost local allocation tax grants, or to protect the 400,000-population threshold required for core city status, and over whether the Ministry or Toyama City bears the responsibility.

Regarding the over-reporting in Toyama City’s national census, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has indicated “there is suspicion the population was padded.” It states that households which census takers had struck off for having no actual residents were treated by city officials as existing, without any basis.

They run two separate counts — the census and the resident registry — so of course it's going to get caught

The population share probably weighs heavily in the local allocation tax grant
There's a ton of subsidies that get paid out based on population ratio

A while back a municipality in Aichi Prefecture padded its count — it had about 49,800 people and inflated it by 200 to hit 50,000 so it could become a city
    167AnonymousSep 29, 2026 18:49
    Re: #13
Simply put, the grant money goes up
Someone mentioned the ratio increasing around the time of that recent news, but I can't find the source
The subsidy amount changing seems plausible though
Below is based on the resident registry count, but it's a 10-million-yen jump

    https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/001631102.pdf
    4. Self-Reliance Support Consultation Program
    Population 300,000–under 400,000: ¥40,000,000
    Population 400,000–under 500,000: ¥50,000,000

*Population here refers to the number of people recorded in the resident registry as of January 1 of the prior year in each municipality, as reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications under the Ministry's "Survey on Population, Vital Statistics, and Number of Households Based on the Resident Registry."

Toyama City "over-reported" its census population — suspicion the padding was "to protect the 400,000 milestone" — Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications conducts on-site inspection — media also received a tip that "the survey five years ago was padded too"

Sure, population is the base figure used to calculate grants, but a difference of around 2,000 people doesn't feel like it would change things all that dramatically

That one had me cracking up lol
With the government shutdown, they just had zero data for an entire month — totally unchecked.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Part of the local allocation tax grant is calculated in proportion to population, so padding population figures can serve as a financial incentive for municipalities. At the same time, Toyama City’s population sits around 400,000 — well above the core city designation threshold (population of 200,000 or more) — which led some on the forum to argue that “the goal wasn’t the grant money so much as preserving the city’s standing as a core city and its subsidy allotments for businesses.” Additionally, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is responsible for compiling and publishing census results, the actual survey work is carried out by municipalities as a “statutory entrusted function,” leaving the question of where responsibility for errors lies somewhat murky under the current system. There have been past cases of a municipality in Aichi Prefecture padding its numbers to meet the population threshold for becoming a city, and of a civil servant in Higashiura Town being arrested for padding census figures — whether the Toyama City case similarly turns into a criminal matter will depend on how things develop.

    Background and Points of Discussion

Mizuta disbanded the comedy duo Wagyu with his partner Kenshiro Kawanishi in 2023 and currently works as a solo comedian. Yamamoto is a freelance newscaster who has appeared on programs including “Wa Spo × MLB”; how long the two dated or the circumstances that led to their marriage aren’t disclosed in the public statement. The announcement gives no specific reason for the divorce, so the “personality” and “abuse” theories floated on the thread should be treated as unfounded speculation, nothing more. Celebrity divorce announcements are typically limited to what the parties themselves choose to disclose, and outside speculation rarely adds anything beyond what they’ve actually stated.

A thread titled ‘I guess we’ll never see another Momochi’ popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. In the thread, posters floated names like Rosy’s Shimakawa and Kudo as potential successors, while opinions split over the kick that sparked her breakout, with some calling it ‘straight-up violence’ and others countering that ‘it was scripted and she’d agreed to it beforehand.’ The discussion also touched on Kato’s past on-screen encounter with AKB48’s Mayu Watanabe, debating whether that kind of staging was appropriate.

Wasn't Chou Tokkyu on that one? Assuming this was before M!LK had even formed

    Background and Talking Points

Momoko Tsugunaga (nicknamed Momochi) is known for continuing to make her mark through physically-committed variety appearances even after leaving Morning Musume in 2014. Her breakout is said to have started with a bit in which she got kicked by Koji Kato and covered in powder — a reminder that variety TV back then tolerated far more extreme stunts than it does today. In recent years, rising compliance concerns have made that kind of physical-stunt segment much harder to pull off, so when the thread says ‘we’ll never see one again,’ it’s not just about any one person’s personality — it also reflects how much TV production styles have shifted. The thread’s mention of ‘Mobekimasu’ refers to a nickname for a group of Hello! Project members lumped together under an ‘unconventional-looks’ category at the time; since every member in that group has since graduated, the generational handover is complete, which is why posters call it ‘ancient history.’

  • Chunichi Dragons Manager Kazuki Inoue to Step Down, Takes Blame for Back-to-Back Last-Place Finishes

It has emerged that Chunichi Dragons manager Kazuki Inoue has personally told the club of his intention to resign, taking responsibility for the team’s poor performance. Chunichi finished last in the league for the second year running, and this season again saw them fall as far as 8 games off the pace. On 5ch’s live-discussion board, debate spread over possible successors, with names like coach Eichi and various Chunichi alumni floated one after another. Fans also clashed over how to judge Inoue’s management — some argued that “by the advanced stats, this team should be at .500, not buried in last place,” while others shot back that “a bullpen’s performance doesn’t always show up in the numbers.”

[Chunichi] Dark Clouds Over the Inoue Regime After 15 Straight Pennant-less Years… Escalating In-House 'Factional Feuding' and the Sudden Imanaka-Nakata Regime Proposal
    https://weekly-jitsuwa.jp/archives/24232

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Chunichi finished last in the league in both 2024 and 2025, and this season — Inoue’s third at the helm — the team again struggled to climb above .500. The thread split over how to judge his in-game management: some defended him, arguing that “by sabermetric-style stats, this team shouldn’t have a losing record at all,” while others countered that “a bullpen’s performance doesn’t always show up in the numbers” — a debate that highlights how hard it is to judge a manager when the stats and the results don’t line up. On the question of a successor, names of former coaches and Chunichi alumni kept coming up one after another, but readers should note that the Imanaka/Nakata plan reported by Weekly Jitsuwa is just one outlet’s speculative report, not an official club announcement. There’s also underlying frustration with front-office management for failing to groom a successor — for instance, former farm-team manager Atsushi Kataoka left the organization once Tatsunami (“Tatsu”) stepped down.

  • Morning Musume。’26 Talk Tickets Now Print Home Addresses — No-Swap Rule Sparks Controversy

Sales updates for the individual talk sessions and photo (“cheki”) events tied to Morning Musume。’26’s 77th single have been making the rounds on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. But the real talking point wasn’t which slots sold out — it’s that the talk tickets shipped out this time now print not just the participating member’s name but the buyer’s home address. Previously, tickets listed only a name, making same-day ticket swaps easy; with an address now printed on them, showing up under someone else’s name becomes much harder, prompting comments on the board like “isn’t this a Consumer Affairs Agency matter?” The thread also saw debate over the fairness of a system that makes it impossible to trade randomly-assigned tickets, plus chatter about the wide sales gap between members.

    Re: #95
I keep seeing Nonaka fans absolutely furious at Ishikawa, both before and after buying
Guess Nonaka and Ishikawa are the type of members whose fanbases just don't overlap at all

    Background and Key Points

Tickets for individual talk sessions and cheki events are usually assigned to a random member, and it has become an almost standard practice among fans to swap a ticket for someone other than their favorite on the day of the event. What’s causing a stir this time is that the ticket now prints a home address in addition to the name that used to be the only information listed, raising the psychological barrier for anyone other than the named buyer to line up. Some in the thread see this as an attempt to curb high-priced scalping, while others are concerned that organizers haven’t clearly explained the pros and cons of leaving personal information like an address on a physical ticket. There are reportedly past cases within the same family of groups where printing addresses became a talking point, and fans are watching closely to see whether this is a one-off measure or here to stay.

  • Chunichi Dragons Manager Kazuki Inoue Announces Resignation — Dead Last in Year Two of Three-Year Deal, 21 Games Under .500

On the 29th, Chunichi Dragons manager Kazuki Inoue announced he will step down at the end of this season. With 141 games played, the team sits at 59 wins, 80 losses, and 2 draws — a franchise-worst 21 games under .500 — and is stuck in last place. It amounts to a de facto mid-contract resignation in year two of his three-year deal. Fighting back tears at a media scrum, he said he had “come to the decision to take responsibility, as a matter of accountability.” He’s expected to keep managing through the season finale on October 3. The 5ch thread drew a wide range of reactions, covering potential successors, the team’s organizational culture, and the realities of attendance figures.

    9/29 (Tue) 16:05

It was confirmed on the 29th that Chunichi manager Kazuki Inoue will resign at the end of this season. At a media scrum during full-squad practice at Vantelin Dome, he announced his own resignation, saying, “After two more games, I will step down.” “Given that we couldn’t win, I came to the decision to take responsibility — as a matter of accountability — for the fact that our results and standings never improved.” This season the team sits in last place through 141 games, with a record of 59 wins, 80 losses, and 2 draws. A fourth straight loss in the September 26 game against the Yakult Swallows (at Jingu Stadium) pushed the deficit to a season-worst 21 games under .500. Manager Inoue is expected to remain at the helm through the scheduled season finale on October 3, also against Yakult at Jingu.

His second season in charge started rough, with three straight losses to the Hiroshima Carp in the opening series at Mazda Stadium. New import closer Abreu complained of lower back pain and blew a game, kicking off a five-game losing streak right out of the gate. The Dragons were already 10 games under .500 just 18 games into the season, and on May 1 — in the franchise’s 90th-anniversary year — they suffered their 20th loss in just 28 games, the fastest pace to 20 losses in team history. After falling to 13 games under .500, they strung together four straight wins starting April 24 against Yakult (at Vantelin Dome), briefly hinting at a comeback, only to slump again. By the June 13 game against the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters (at Escon Field), the deficit had ballooned to 20 games under .500. Even so, the team went 12-11 in July — the first winning month of the Inoue era — and in August strung together a season-best five-game win streak. On August 26 they closed to within 1.5 games of third place, but couldn’t close out the crucial games that followed.

At least he actually got to resign.
Meanwhile Arai (the Hiroshima Carp manager) wants to quit and can't.

    Poor Arai, honestly…
    50AnonymousSep 29, 2026 16:33
Why? Fans keep showing up even though the team's weak — that's basically the ideal manager for the Chuni-Dora (Chunichi Dragons fan nickname).

These days your final standing only affects your bonus — put up good individual stats and your pay goes way up regardless of team rank. Missing the Climax Series is really the only actual loss.

Getting sympathy for NOT resigning while sitting in last place — that's a new one. Fitting, since it's Arai (a pun: his name sounds like "arai," meaning rough/coarse).

Same story with Nomu-ken (Kenjiro Nomura) and Ogata back in the day. The front office can't even picture a path to a title, so it doesn't matter who's manager — by the end of a manager's tenure, it seems to become about keeping a guy who wants to quit around and subservient, just to put the owner's and GM's power on display.

Funny how Yakult's the only team the pundits all agreed on.
They hit double digits over .500 at one point and had the commentators sweating, but then cratered all the way to the bottom — those pundits are probably relieved now.

Even so, attendance is still up, right?
Sounds like Grampus (Nagoya's J-League club) crowds are up too — guess Nagoya fans just don't care about winning or losing.

Right before the draft, a Chunichi scout actually introduced Nakano as a top pick(?) on a local Nagoya TV show — so the scout in charge clearly did rate him highly.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Ever since Tsuyoshi Yoda, Chunichi has cycled through managers every few years, and Kazuki Inoue’s departure likewise amounts to a de facto mid-term resignation in year two of a three-year contract. Three straight losses to Hiroshima to open the season, miscalculations with new import Abreu, and other early setbacks piled up the deficit fast, and by May — the franchise’s 90th-anniversary year — the team had already set the record for fastest 20th loss in team history, cementing the slump early on. In the thread, users discussed the team’s odd ability to keep drawing crowds despite poor results, floated potential successors such as Hiroaki Ibata or calls for a foreign manager, and also vented frustration at the scouting department for having missed players like Ichiro and Hanshin’s Takumu Nakano in the past — suggesting the distrust runs deep, extending beyond in-game management to the front office and player-development structure as a whole. Manager Inoue is expected to stay in charge through the season finale on October 3, with his formal departure coming after that.

  • Late-Night 5ch Live Thread Spirals from Animal Noises to Ghost Debate: “Ghosts and the Afterlife Are 100% Just Fiction”

In a thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (anything-goes live-commentary board), idle chatter — meaningless animal-noise exchanges and reactions to reader-submitted images — rambled on until a post declaring “Ghosts and the afterlife are 100% just fiction” sparked a small back-and-forth over whether spirits are real. Some posters offered their own theories, others replied with images resembling personal anecdotes, and the topic kept drifting without ever reaching a conclusion. Elsewhere, someone suddenly posted a new character image and asked “What anime is this from?”, while others speculated about why popular VTuber “Rushia,” who has since left the scene, departed.

    Re: #171
She got too popular, people got jealous, and she was pushed out

Background and key points of this topic

“Rushia” is the nickname of Uruha Rushia, a popular VTuber formerly affiliated with Hololive, whose activities ended in 2022 when her contract was terminated. The agency never disclosed the full details behind that decision, and fans still trade various theories about it to this day — the thread’s claim that “she got too popular, people got jealous, and she was pushed out” is just one such theory, and should be read with that caveat in mind. The same caution applies to the exchange about ghosts and the afterlife: the “just fiction” claim was simply met with images and anecdote-like responses, and no side was ever established as the definitive “answer” within the thread. Because live-commentary threads consist of posts that constantly cycle through, unverified claims and personal assumptions tend to flow past as-is, so it’s worth keeping in mind that individual comments are part of casual chatter rather than confirmed information.
