  • 5ch Users Go All-In Hunting Down Thread Challenge Items: “Inuyashiki’s Disqualified — He’s Only 58”

A classic type of thread went up on 5ch’s Newsoku VIP board: users track down items specified via “anker” reply-links (">>") and post real-life photos as proof, “uploading” them for everyone to see. This round’s list included items that sound ordinary but are surprisingly hard to have on hand — a “men’s toupee,” a “sign showing elevation above sea level,” “matcha-flavored tiramisu,” and “milk in a glass bottle” — and the residents went all-in, searching their homes and heading out to take photos on location. Partway through, talk centered on what looked like a posting restriction on the image board being used, with people trading theories about the cause.

    Background and Talking Points

The “thread where people go all-out hunting down items specified via anker reply-links and upload the results” is a classic 5ch VIP thread format: the thread starter posts a challenge list, and users actually search their homes and the streets, photograph the real item, and report back by “uploading” it. This round’s list featured items that sound like everyday objects but are surprisingly hard to actually find on hand — things like a “men’s toupee,” a “sign showing elevation above sea level,” “matcha-flavored tiramisu,” and an “air conditioner labeled GENERAL” — and the participants’ persistence in tracking them down was the main draw. Within the thread, conversation centered on what looked like a posting restriction on the image host Imgur, with users trading theories about the cause, though no clear conclusion was reached. Terms like “otsu” (thanks for the effort), “anka” (reply-link), and “shinkou” (thread progress) are just standard 5ch thread-management shorthand used to mark reports and transitions — there’s no real conflict or controversy in the content itself. It reads as a purely lighthearted collecting-and-reporting game with nothing objectionable in it.</parameter>

  • Haru Inoue’s Childhood Home Deep in the Kyoto Mountains: Her Eel-Fishing Days with Grandpa Go Viral

Morning Musume.’s Haru Inoue shared a story about her grandfather catching eels with a long tube-shaped trap in the pristine river near her childhood home, sparking a lively thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Her family home is said to be in a secluded mountain village in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, with posters noting its closeness to a river famous for the ayu (sweetfish) once praised by the legendary gourmet Rosanjin, and pointing out that the area had nothing to do with the “bubuzuke” custom of Kyoto City (a passive-aggressive local practice of offering guests tea-over-rice as a hint to leave). The thread also debated whether the eel fishing counted as poaching, with some explaining that its legality hinges on whether the local fishing cooperative holds exclusive rights to the river — all woven into good-natured chatter about Inoue’s wild-child image.

    1AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:22
Out of 30 years of Morning Musume., Haru's easily the most feral, wild-child member yet.
    4AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:26
Oh right, there was also that news recently about a bear rampaging just north of Haru's hometown.

    Is Fukuchiyama really that rural?
    24AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:40
    Re: #13
    Putting it in Tokyo terms:
the "urban" part of Fukuchiyama, the part with things like Hachioji's Olympus Hall, is the city center,
but Haru is from a hamlet way out where Fukuchiyama basically borders on the equivalent of Hinohara Village.
    14AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:34
I watched an NHK drama about Rosanjin recently,
and the river he praised as having the best ayu in Japan — the one he went out of his way to import fish from — turned out to be either Haru's home river or the one right next to it.
    16AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:35
Oh really! So she and Ako-chan have the "raised on eel" thing in common too.

    Hyoju looked down at Gon.
"Gon… so it was you… You're the one who always left me chestnuts."
Gon, lying there limp, felt a flicker of happiness. Hyoju
let his matchlock gun clatter to the ground. A thin wisp of
blue smoke was still curling up from its muzzle. (A quote from the classic Japanese children's story "Gon, the Little Fox.")

I lived in Nantan City for about five years so I know this — black bass were already living in the rivers around there.
Used to go fishing there a lot in elementary school.
By the way, grilled black bass has white meat and is actually really good.

Doesn't eel fishing count as poaching?
    50AnonymousSep 18, 2026 20:59
    Re: #36
    Depends on the area.
If the local fishing cooperative holds fishing rights there, then legally it's a no-go.

If Haru — who could probably flatten an Asian black bear with one hand — is the one collapsing because she can't memorize Musume.'s choreography, that routine must be seriously brutal.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Haru Inoue is a Morning Musume. member from Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, and has shared anecdotes about her mountain-village upbringing before, with this latest post continuing that trend. The thread’s main point of contention was whether eel fishing in the river counted as poaching — in practice, this depends on whether the local fishing cooperative for that particular river holds exclusive fishing rights, so it isn’t automatically illegal everywhere. Fukuchiyama is also a city with a stark divide between its urban center and mountainous areas; while Inoue’s family home is said to be quite far from the city center, it’s a common misconception that the whole city is “deep in the mountains.” Likewise, Kyoto’s “bubuzuke” custom is specific to the city center and isn’t shared across the entire prefecture.

※This article was compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Haru Inoue: “Growing up, my grandfather used to catch eel in the beautiful river near our house with a long tube-shaped trap”.”

  • Mishaps pile up at Nagoya Asian Games — 5ch dubs it ‘the worst Asian Games ever’

Operational mishaps keep surfacing at the Asian Games currently underway in Aichi/Nagoya. Thailand’s delegation was reportedly turned away from their lodging and forced to spend the night outdoors, and during the South Korea match the anthem played was North Korea’s national anthem instead of South Korea’s. Threads on 5ch are full of comments calling it ‘the worst Asian Games in history,’ while others defend the organizers, arguing ‘Asian Games have always been like this, not just when Japan hosts,’ and some point out that the room shortage stemmed from events being added to the schedule just before the Games began — leaving opinion split over who’s really to blame.

    Re: #109
If nobody knows what's actually going on
Of course no one's going to show up

Background and key points of debate

The Asian Games are considered Asia’s largest multi-sport event after the Olympics, and host-city operations tend to draw close scrutiny from international media. In this case, events were added to the schedule shortly before the Games began, pushing attendance past the hotel capacity originally planned — one factor behind the lodging trouble — and thread opinion is split over whether responsibility lies with the organizing committee or with the OCA. As for the anthem mix-up, since the operational setup simply plays whatever audio file each country provides, it’s likely a clerical error from inadequate checking rather than any intentional political provocation — a distinction that’s easy to overlook. It’s also a common pattern in coverage of this kind of international event that criticism aimed at the host city, “Nagoya,” quickly escalates into broader judgments about “Japan” as a whole.

  • 28-Year-Old Delivery Driver Throws Out His Back — 5ch: “Everyone in Trucking or Warehouse Work Does This at Least Once”

A poster who says he’s 28 and works at a delivery company earning ¥4.8 million a year wrote on 5ch that the moment he tried to stand up from the toilet after getting home, a sharp pain shot through his lower back and he couldn’t move. While some in the thread were shocked — “throwing your back out at 28?” — plenty of others shared their own stories, saying it’s basically a rite of passage in trucking or warehouse work. The discussion mostly centered on practical questions: should you ice it or keep moving, is a hospital visit even worth it, and will he make it to work Monday — with the question of whether workers’ comp applies also coming up.

At my company we at least get paid overtime

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Gikkuri-goshi” isn’t an official medical diagnosis — it’s a colloquial term for the sudden, sharp lower-back pain triggered by ordinary movements like bending forward or standing up; the medical term is acute lower back pain. Trucking and warehouse work routinely involve loading and unloading heavy items, making them industries known for accumulating strain on the lower back, and the recurring claim in the thread that “everyone in the industry goes through this at least once” reflects that reality. As for workers’ compensation, cases that occur at home outside of working hours are unlikely to be recognized as work-related, so the “probably not” assessment in the exchange between replies #72 and #77 is broadly accurate in practice. The debate over resting versus moving (replies #50 and #52) reflects a broader shift in medical guidance: the once-dominant “rest first” advice has in recent years given way to the view that moving within a pain-tolerable range speeds recovery, and the apparent disagreement in the thread mirrors that evolving consensus.

Posters expressed shock that the yen kept weakening even though both Japan and the US hiked rates by 0.25%, with some pointing out that two dissenting votes at the Bank of Japan’s policy meeting led markets to conclude the BOJ would stay reluctant to keep hiking going forward. The thread ranged widely — from the limits of currency intervention and how much foreign reserves are left, to debate over whether Japan’s rising prices stem from imported inflation, to real FX trading profit-and-loss reports.

Currency intervention is just selling off dollars from foreign reserves, right? Institutional investors have already figured out they'll run out of ammo once the dollars run dry.
Once the dollars are gone, it's really over.
    68AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:28
    Re: #61
    That's not quite right.
There's still plenty left in the foreign reserves, but the US won't allow it to be used that way, and more importantly, Japan's higher-ups are thrilled about the weak yen.

Japan's higher-ups have no intention of ending the yen's slide, since it lets them squeeze the public's wealth to pay down the national debt.
    79AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:40
They should just be bolder about raising rates, that's all.
Sorry to folks with variable-rate mortgages, but even for them, higher interest payments probably end up being less of a burden than runaway prices.
    84AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:41
    Re: #79
Either way, wouldn't raising rates eventually lead to higher prices too?
    89AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:42
    Re: #79
US CPI growth for July 2026 was 3.4%.
Japan's CPI growth for July 2026 was 1.9%.

Japan's price increases are just import prices rising due to inflation overseas feeding into domestic prices — it's not that prices are genuinely rising within Japan itself.

Despite the weak yen, prices in Japan have actually risen less than overseas.

Japan's inflation is being driven by inflation abroad, and Japan copes with weak domestic demand (deflation) by holding down wages, which keeps rising import costs from being fully passed on to retail prices.

What Japan needs isn't to hike rates and strengthen the yen —
it's to tackle the deflation hidden behind high import prices and raise real wages for working-age people.

    Re: #142
If my assets are dollar-denominated, I'm fine with it going that high.

    Background and Key Points

Currency intervention is carried out by Japan’s Ministry of Finance selling dollars from its foreign reserves to buy yen, which is why the remaining reserve balance draws so much attention. In the thread, opinions split between those arguing that “intervention hits its limit once the dollars run out” and those countering that “there’s still plenty left in reserves, but there’s no political will to stop the yen’s slide.” There was also commentary rooted in market psychology: even though Japan and the US both hiked rates by 0.25%, leaving the rate differential unchanged, the yen still weakened — because two dissenting votes at the BOJ’s policy meeting led markets to conclude the central bank would remain reluctant to keep hiking. Views were also split on what’s driving the price increases — cost-push from rising import prices versus genuine domestic demand — and it’s worth keeping in mind that the simple notion that “raising rates fixes both the exchange rate and prices” can be misleading.

  • 17 Years of “30-Minute Sleep”: Daisuke Hori Quietly Deletes the Claim From His Profile

Daisuke Hori, who built his livestreaming career on the claim that he’s “slept just 30 minutes a day for 17 years,” has been found to have deleted that line from his profile. Viewers have confirmed that his marathon endurance stream cut off partway through, and that his YouTube channel name was also changed. On the 5ch “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (Live/Anything Goes) board, posters speculated about what happened during the stream while debating whether his claimed background was genuine and whether he owes viewers refunds.

Studio musician, instrument maker, oil painter, industrial plant designer
Which one of these is even true

Background and Key Points of This Story

Daisuke Hori is said to have built his livestreaming career around the claim that he sleeps just 30 minutes a day, drawing viewer support along the way. Now that the phrase has disappeared from his profile, doubts about its truthfulness have grown louder on 5ch. Some posters point to possible résumé fraud and call for refunds, while the stream itself has ended and the channel name has reportedly been changed, with no explanation from Hori himself so far. Claims like a self-reported sleep schedule are hard for outsiders to verify, and once such claims become the basis for monetized livestreams, checking their accuracy tends to get pushed to the back burner. For now, there’s no way to know where fact ends and performance began short of an explanation from Hori himself, so a firm judgment should be withheld.

  • “I’ve Already Blown ¥6,000 This Month…” — 5ch Thread Cries “In the Red Again”

A thread appeared on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board where a character built around the (っ´ω`c) emoticon grumbled, “I’ve already spent ¥6,000 this month… I’m in the red.” The discussion started out as users comparing notes on e-book purchases, supermarket shopping, and how many points they’d earned in Google’s rewards program, but it gradually wandered off into side topics like a poster’s bread-baking hobby (while living with their parents), gacha game character rankings, and screenshots of competitive game leaderboards. Rather than the thread title’s sense of financial urgency, what really carried the thread was the easygoing back-and-forth between posters.

    Background and Key Points

It’s worth noting that this type of VIP thread follows a “role-play chat” format, where posters take on the persona of an emoticon character like (っ´ω`c) and report on small everyday happenings — there’s no specific source material or official setting behind it. The Google Points program that comes up is a real system where perks differ by rank, from Bronze up to Diamond, and the mismatch in posts #12 and #14 over what points you can claim even at the same “Gold” rank is a common point of confusion with that system. True to the freewheeling nature of a VIP chat thread, topics with no direct connection to money — like gacha game character tier lists and screenshots of competitive game rankings — keep getting mixed in, and the thread title’s theme of “I spent money” ends up mostly sidelined partway through. Rather than a confession of serious debt or overspending, the real appeal of this thread is the laid-back energy of people bonding over a few thousand yen a month.

    6AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:38
    Re: #4
Looks like it's the slot right after Kubota's.
23:00 Kubota Nanami — HBC Radio "OCHA NORMA Kubota Nanami's Kyururun♡ Radio"

↓ Which overlaps with this one:
23:30 Dambara Ruru or Matsunaga Ria — Radio Nippon "Bakuya ~BAKUNAI~"
    5AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:38
No way Ma-chan can do this solo.
Let's get Fukumura in to help out.
    7AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:39
Kubota's on a different station, so they could probably still do a relay cross-over, right?
    8AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:40
Kubota Nanamin is on HBC, right?

    Every Sunday 23:00–23:30, HBC Radio
"OCHA NORMA Kubota Nanami's Kyururun♡ Radio"
    9AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:41
It's gonna be dangerous without an MC there to back her up.
    11AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:42
The Morning Musume radio segments Sato appeared on were all legendary, but how far can she go solo?
    44AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:52
    Re: #11
The Yantan episodes with Ma-chan were pretty funny too. (Yantan is a long-running Kansai late-night radio show)
    13AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:43
It's pre-recorded anyway, so they can bleep out as much as they need.
    14AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:43
She'll blab all kinds of personal info, it'll get cut left and right, and there won't be enough content left.
    15AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:44
More than half the show will just be bleeps and sound effects — a total trainwreck of a radio show.
    16AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:45
"Dominant Life" — isn't that some crappy Tsunku song? (Tsunku♂ is the producer behind Hello! Project)
    19AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:46
Whoa! I wasn't expecting this since Ma-chan seemed like she wasn't great at radio — I'm shocked.
Guess I need to get Radiko Premium…
    20AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:47
    Kyururun Radio

    VS

    Poku Poku Radio
    21AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:47
"Dynamite Life" would've been a perfect name for it.
    22AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:47
So she's finally come to conquer the world of talk radio, huh?
    23AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:47
Ma-chan doing a solo 30-minute radio show every week — is that even sane?
    28AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:48
Is this a different slot from Bonsoir?
    40AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:51
    Re: #28
Different one. That one's on FM. Kubota's and this new one are both on AM.
    41AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:51
It totally overlaps with Bakuya's timeslot.
Would've been better to just keep the Bonsoir slot going.
    42AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:51
    Might be mostly music.
    64AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:56
    Re: #42
The show currently in that slot is like that, so this one's probably music-focused too.

    Sunday 23:30–24:00
    Program overview
In the moments before the date changes, music traveler Uchiyama Yoshiko brings you a select lineup of fine Japanese songs and heartfelt music talk.
    46AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:52
There's barely any illegal uploads of the radio and TV appearances Ma-chan did for promo.
And the Myupa show she used to do a few years back, which Morito's doing now, has zero illegal uploads either.
    49AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:53
Wasn't there a character they swiped from Sayashi's radio show?
    Let them use that one.
    55AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
    Re: #49
Deri-kun was actually designed by Ma-chan.
    50AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:53
Did a Hello! Project member or an OG used to do this slot?
    53AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:53
Maybe it's sponsored by Coach and Four or something. (a Hokkaido bookstore chain)
    54AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:53
Wait, Ishida's the one who's been saying she wants a radio show ever since she was active in the group.
    56AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
    Bonsoir airs on Saturdays.
This slot is currently run by an STV announcer.
    57AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
These days we've got Radiko, so you don't even need to listen live anymore.
    58AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
Even if it turns into a total mess, I want Ma-chan to do it solo.
    59AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
Let Ishida do some kind of web radio thing on the fan club site.
    60AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:54
Seriously? That's a bold move, STV.
I mean, she couldn't even manage a 2-minute segment before.
But her talk during the tour was hilarious, so letting her talk freely could actually be fun — though the editing must be a nightmare.
    62AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:56
To everyone at the radio station —
it's going to take some patient editing,
    but please do your best.

    Background and Key Points

Sato Masaki is from Sapporo, Hokkaido, and having her own named show on local station STV Radio is a classic pattern of a hometown broadcaster bringing on a local talent. The “Yantan” show referenced in the thread is a long-running late-night radio program in the Kansai region, and the background here is that Sato’s past appearances on it were well received. Meanwhile, the same Sunday 11 PM slot already includes OCHA NORMA’s Kubota Nanami on her HBC radio show and a Radio Nippon program featuring Dambara Ruru and Matsunaga Ria, so existing listeners saw the new show’s overlapping timeslot as a scheduling clash. Hello! Project members’ radio shows are often said to have their on-air comments cut during editing, and posters expect the same here. Additionally, a new regular Juice=Juice program is launching on Nippon Broadcasting on the same day, October 4, suggesting this is a period of increased media exposure for the group as a whole.

  • Google Slaps Age Restriction on Content Related to VTuber Shigure Ui

Content related to VTuber Shigure Ui has reportedly been flagged by Google with an 18+ age restriction, meaning it no longer shows up in logged-out or standard search results — a development that’s become a hot topic on 5ch. Thread posters shared what appear to be screenshots taken while searching in incognito mode, sparking surprise and confusion. The story also ties back to an earlier controversy, when Shigure Ui collaborated with a girls’ apparel brand and drew criticism for it not matching her character image — and the thread was split between those defending her and those piling on criticism.

    It's become content you can't view unless you're 18+.
It doesn't even show up in a normal search anymore.

    23AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:36
The famous work she illustrated is Osamake ("My Childhood Friend Absolutely Never Loses" — a romcom light novel/anime).
The anime got trashed hard by critics too.
    37AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:39
    Re: #23
Wait, she's actually involved with the anime?
    43AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:40
Only actual otaku understand that fans of this VTuber and lolicons aren't a perfect overlap.
If normal people who'd never in their lives encounter a word like "mesugaki" (a bratty, taunting loli-type character trope) stumble onto this, of course it blows up like this.
This is what happens when you don't listen to the old-timers who keep saying "talk about old-school otaku prejudice in your own lane and stay separated."
    47AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:41
    VTuber: "Lolicons get arrested, lol"
Downtrodden lolicon men (net slang for socially low-status guys): "Yaaay!"

VTuber: "Collabing with a girls' apparel brand, lol"
Normal people: "Someone who does lolicon bits doing a collab like this… are they serious?"
Downtrodden lolicon men: "Huh? That song is actually condemning lolicons???"

    This is peak cringe.
    52AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:42
    Re: #47
It's a song that LOOKS like it's condemning lolicons but is actually made for lolicons.
Kind of like an S&M thing.

The woman who's conquered every job elementary school girls dream of: illustrator, singer, and VTuber.

And she's an indie VTuber on top of that, you know.
    That combo made her unstoppable.

But she won't be earning off this going forward, so as a job this is basically dead.
    58AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:44
There's no way a high-end girls' clothing brand should sanely collab with someone who jokes around about loli and lolicon stuff with otaku fans.
    61AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:45
    Re: #58
The brand that made the offer is at fault, but so is the side that accepted it.
If they understood what kind of character she's selling, they'd have turned it down.
    68AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:47
They call Mezzo Piano a girls' apparel brand, but its main customer base is actually women in their 30s who were "Heisei-era girls" themselves.

    126AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:04
    Re: #115
Back in the Heisei era, gross-otaku culture had this unspoken truce — people would go "moe~" or "she's my wife!" and others would go "ugh, gross, lol," but everyone just left each other alone. Somewhere along the way people like Re: #77 showed up demanding acceptance, and that's kind of where it all fell apart.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Google’s search results and content classifications are determined automatically, and an “age-restricted” tag can get applied independently of what the operator or the individual actually wants. What sparked this thread wasn’t an official announcement but a screenshot a user reportedly took while searching in incognito mode — no explanation has been confirmed from Google, from Shigure Ui herself, or from her agency. The thread also conflates this age-restriction issue with the earlier backlash over her collaboration with the girls’ apparel brand Mezzo Piano, but the two are actually separate incidents. The collab controversy blew up over criticism that the brand image didn’t match her character as a VTuber, while this latest development is likely an unrelated change in how the search engine classifies her content. Opinions in the thread are split between those defending Shigure Ui and her fans and those who take issue with both the brand that proposed the collab and her side for accepting it — worth keeping in mind that no confirmed official explanation has surfaced yet.
