  • Typhoon Floods Parts of Chiba, Sparking Backlash Against Online Trolls

In September 2026, heavy rain from a typhoon caused flooding and inundation in parts of Chiba Prefecture. As posts reporting the damage spread on social media, they were met with a wave of mocking replies — “here we go again,” “choose where you live more carefully” — and in a thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board, residents believed to be from Chiba vented strong frustration at this reaction. The thread also touched on how flood damage varies by area even within Chiba, as well as broader questions of disaster preparedness — from government flood-control investment to the need for individuals to carry insurance.

    This genuinely pisses me off.
Why go out of your way to troll people?
It's not like you can just casually pick up and move — you're just some nobody who happens to live somewhere that doesn't flood.
    10AnonymousSep 22, 2026 18:37
Flood control really varies even within Chiba.
Over here it just rained a bit harder than usual — no damage at all.

    Re: #10
It's less about flood control and more that places like the Hokuso Plateau or the hills of the Boso Peninsula are just lucky because water flows downhill away from them.
Meanwhile, low-lying spots downhill like Togane and Omigawa end up underwater.

"Didn't you learn anything from last time?"
"Why do you even live somewhere like that?"

    Whereabouts in Chiba?

    Background and Key Points

In Japan, even when a disaster like heavy rain floods homes and cars, official compensation is limited to support tied to a disaster certificate, and most repair or replacement costs fall on individuals’ own fire or auto insurance. The question raised in the thread — “so victims have to cover the damage themselves?” — shows how little this system is widely understood. The posts also reveal considerable topographical variation in flood risk within Chiba itself: areas like the Hokuso Plateau and the hilly Boso Peninsula sit on high ground, while low-lying areas such as Togane and Omigawa are far more exposed, even within the same prefecture. Where opinion in the thread split was over how far online mockery can be excused as “just joking around” — posts making light of an acquaintance’s actual flood damage drew criticism within the thread itself, with some calling the behavior simply “mean-spirited.”

  • Self-Proclaimed “Inkya Girl” Gets Buried in Questions — VIPpers Can’t Agree on What “Inkya” Even Means

A thread titled “Seriously, I’m an inkya (introverted/gloomy type) girl, any questions?” went up on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, and the conversation grew as the poster answered questions from other users. She described her isolation back in middle school — no friends, barely speaking at school — but revealed that these days people often call her funny, chatty, and easygoing. That gap between her self-assessment and how others see her sparked pushback, with comments like “can you really call that inkya?” and “there are introverted youkya (extroverted/popular) types too,” and the thread’s real focus ended up being the definition of “inkya” itself.

    Background and Points of Debate

“Inkya” and “youkya” are slang terms that have become fixtures online, but they have no firm definition — whether they describe personality or appearance and vibe is something people interpret differently. In this thread too, the original poster based her self-identification as inkya on middle-school experiences of having no friends and barely speaking at school, while noting that people around her now often describe her as funny, chatty, and easygoing. That gap between her self-image and how others see her became the central point of debate. Pushback followed, with comments like “someone with a striking face or presence can’t really be called inkya” and “there are introverted youkya types too,” and the thread moved on without ever settling on a shared definition of the term. Self-introduction threads like this crop up regularly on VIP, and part of their appeal is that anonymity makes it easier for candid, self-deprecating exchanges to keep going.

    Background and Talking Points

In Hello! Project in recent years, it’s become a tradition for each group’s project to unveil a “uniform number” for every member. Many pick numbers tied to their birthday or inherited from an admired senior or fellow member, and Yasumi Tanimoto explained on her blog that she chose hers based on what felt like “a number that means something to Tsubaki [Factory].” Rather than splitting into opposing camps, the thread was mostly casual chatter, with users trading the backstories behind other members’ numbers — birthdays, numbers borrowed from a favorite senpai, digits tied to a qualification or nickname — with almost no criticism in sight. That said, a similar uniform-number project for another group previously stirred controversy over headcount and how numbers were assigned, and a few posts referenced that history. • Kamikoryo, Asakura, Inaba… Hello! Project’s Golden Generation — 5ch Debates: ‘A Solo Hit Doesn’t Always Lift the Group’

On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a thread sprang up reminiscing about an audition generation that produced popular members like Kamikoryo Moe, Asakura Kiki, and Inaba Manaka. As posters traded memories of the era’s contestants and their later careers, one comment about Kamikoryo Moe — “even though she made it big solo, it never translated into anything for the group” — sparked debate over whether an ace’s individual popularity actually lifts the group as a whole. Other candidates like Nonaka Miki and Shimamura Kiuta also came up for discussion, in an exchange only longtime fans who remember the era could have.

    Background and Points of Debate

The “Kamiko audition” discussed in this thread is, as post 10 notes, also referred to by some posters as the “Ogata-Nonaka audition,” showing that even participants in the discussion don’t fully agree on the name or the details. Opinions comparing Kamikoryo Moe’s individual popularity to the group’s overall sales performance came up, but Hello! Project has seen both patterns before — cases where one ace pulls the group along and other members grow afterward, and cases where popularity is spread across multiple members from the start — and fans remain divided on which is more desirable. It’s worth noting that the comments about ages and career histories rely solely on the memories of fans who followed the era at the time, and haven’t been cross-checked against official records.

  • 43-Year-Old NEET Seeks to Turn His Life Around — 5ch: “This Kind of Thread Has Been Around for 30 Years”

“I’m a 43-year-old NEET who wants to turn his life around” — this advice thread, posted on 5ch’s freewheeling “Anything Goes” live-discussion board, drew a mix of responses: some pushed for concrete action, others were flatly dismissive. While posters living with chronic conditions like back pain and acid reflux pointed out that they still manage to hold down jobs despite the same ailments, others kept firing back with “what exactly counts as a ‘turnaround’ anyway?” — and the conversation never quite found common ground. Mixed in was one resident’s report of going from ten years as a NEET to landing a full-time job at 38, making for a thread with surprisingly uneven temperature for its subject.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

This kind of “NEET life-advice thread” is a long-running staple on 5ch, and as one poster (reply #47) put it, the format has “been around for 30 years.” What split opinion in this thread was the very definition of a “turnaround.” Some argued that simply working and living an ordinary life counts as a turnaround, while others set an extreme bar, insisting nothing short of reaching “Elon Musk levels” would qualify — and with no shared premise, the discussion never really converged. There was also a gap in tone over how far health issues should be accepted as a valid reason not to work: when the OP cited chronic back pain as an obstacle to employment, other posters living with the same condition pushed back, noting that they manage to work despite it. This piece leaves out posts that were purely personal insults or bait aimed at the OP, but it’s worth noting that encouragement and mockery were running side by side throughout the thread.

  • Chiba Flooding: Water Still Hasn’t Drained After a Full Night — 5ch: “This Prefecture Is Finished”

On September 22, 2026, flooding from heavy rain in Chiba Prefecture that still hadn’t drained after a full night became a hot topic on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyō G” (general live-chat) board. Photos of submerged vending machines and cars, along with talk of the low-lying areas around Lake Inba and flood-control work in Mobara City, poured in one after another, with differences in terrain and drainage infrastructure becoming the central topic of debate. Some compared it to Nagoya, where floodwaters reportedly receded within a few hours, and the thread was united by one question: why won’t the water in Chiba drain?

The area around Lake Inba was originally low-lying land that flooded constantly, and Sakura Station was built right on that low ground.
City hall and the old houses near Sakura Castle are properly built up on the hill, so they must've known that area would flood in heavy rain.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Northern Chiba Prefecture has many areas, including around Lake Inba, that were originally low-lying wetlands, and urban development has expanded into land prone to flooding whenever heavy rain hits — such as around Sakura Station. On the thread, Chiba’s slow drainage was questioned in comparison to Nagoya, where floodwaters reportedly receded within a few hours, but the rainfall comparison (a post claiming about 150mm more over 24 hours) is only a claim made on 5ch, and this article could not confirm it against official data such as from the Japan Meteorological Agency. On the other hand, in places like Mobara City, riverbank reinforcement work paid off and kept river flooding in check, showing that even within Chiba Prefecture, outcomes varied depending on how developed local flood-control infrastructure was. The prolonged flooding may stem not just from rainfall amounts but from a combination of factors, including low-lying terrain and the processing capacity of drainage facilities.

  • Timelesz’s 6 Commercials Wiped Out After One Member’s Arrest — 5ch: ‘Well, That Blew Up in His Face lol’

Following the arrest of Timelesz member Shuto Inomata on assault charges, commercials he appeared in are being pulled one after another. The limited-edition ABC-MART ad was taken down just 5 days after release, and a total of 6 ads — including Nissin Foods’ “Chicken Ramen,” AOKI, mobile battery rental service “CHARGESPOT,” and even a Google Pixel ad — disappeared within days. On the thread, reactions ranged from surprise that ads featuring other members got pulled too even though only one was arrested, to talk about the group’s rename from Sexy Zone to Timelesz, and speculation that the penalty fees could run into the hundreds of millions of yen.

“Following the announcement, each company acted immediately. On the 19th, when the arrest was reported, ABC-MART took down the ad images and commercial video for the limited-edition ‘TEKWEN’ model featuring Timelesz. The commercial had only gone up on the 14th, meaning it was shelved after just 5 days.

Nissin Foods also pulled its ‘Chicken Ramen’ commercial, which featured Inomata alongside fellow members Masaki Hashimoto and Daiki Shinozuka, and he also disappeared from the fermented beauty supplement ‘ByGLOW,’ where he had been serving as its first-ever solo brand ambassador.

The next day, the 20th, ‘AOKI’ and smartphone charger rental service ‘CHARGESPOT’ followed suit, and by the 21st Google had removed related images and videos for ‘Google Pixel’ as well. It’s essentially become a total wipeout of his commercial work” (entertainment reporter)

Background and Key Points of This Story

Commercial contracts commonly include an ‘image clause’ that allows immediate termination and penalty claims if a scandal occurs, so it isn’t unusual for multiple ads — in this case ABC-MART, Nissin Foods, AOKI, CHARGESPOT, Google Pixel, and others — to get pulled all at once within days of an arrest, as happened here. What stands out is that even commercials Inomata himself didn’t appear in got caught up and cancelled along with the rest of the group’s campaigns, which is what fueled the thread’s surprise that ‘one person’s screwup wiped out everyone’s ads.’ Note that Timelesz is the renamed version of Sexy Zone, and this arrest itself has no direct connection to the former Johnny’s Office’s (now Starto Entertainment) past issues. The thread included speculation tying the agency’s past problems into the story, along with baseless jabs at the victim, but since none of that has been confirmed by reporting, this article doesn’t address it.

  • Approached by an Amway Recruiter Met at a Job Fair — 5ch Asks: “Is There Such a Thing as a Pyramid Scheme Face?”

A post went up on 5ch describing how the poster, invited out by someone they’d met at a job fair, walked as far as the building entrance before realizing it was an Amway recruitment pitch and turning back. Users with similar experiences flooded the thread with details: meetings staged with a fixed two-against-one seating arrangement, an organizational structure where recruiters link together like parent and child, and the tactic of serving home-cooked meals at house parties. Reactions varied — some said they simply took the free food without joining, while others voiced anxiety over having handed out their contact information.

It's structured like a yakuza racket ("the ya character" — 5ch slang for yakuza), with parent-child relationships all the way down.
A "parent" keeps a stable of "children," and those children have children of their own.
When a "child" gets a mark to pay up, a cut flows back up to the "parent," and they'll even give a freshly recruited "child" a place to live so they can't run off right after being sworn in.
If you ever meet one, fake some interest and pump them for details about how they actually live.
It's a fascinating peek into the abyss.

LOL, that brings back way too many memories.

    Background and Talking Points

Amway is well known in Japan as a major player in “multi-level marketing” (network business), characterized by pricey proprietary products — water purifiers, air purifiers, cookware — sold through a chain of recruitment among acquaintances. Legally, it operates under registration with Japan’s Act on Specified Commercial Transactions and is distinct from an outright pyramid scheme (mugen rensa-kou), but the “profits flow from child up to parent” structure described in the thread is similar enough that the two are often conflated. The thread also shows recruitment often starting from familiar settings, like a job fair or an old elementary school classmate, not just approaches from total strangers. Several posters noted that handing over contact information rarely leads to actual financial harm, but that’s based on individual anecdotes — the thread doesn’t address other potential costs, like persistent follow-up recruitment or strain on personal relationships.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nanademo Jikkyo G) thread “Got recruited into Amway lol.”

  • Freelancer Earning ¥300,000/Month: “If You’re Going to Quit Your Job, Sooner Is Better” — Opinions Split

A poster claiming to be a freelancer earning ¥300,000 a month started a thread saying, “If you want to quit your job, sooner is better.” While admitting to the harsh reality that hours worked translate directly into income — and that some months bring in ¥600,000 to ¥1,000,000 — the poster never revealed their actual line of work. This drew a string of pushback: “A company employee can get by fine on a ¥350,000 take-home salary working remote three days a week,” and “I can’t trust claims like this without concrete numbers or tax-saving methods.” The thread never found common ground and ran on parallel tracks to the end.

    Re: #17
No contradiction lol. I'm just saying you CAN make ¥2,000,000 a month if you hustle. Obviously that means juggling multiple jobs lol. Say a full-time employee brings in ¥3,000,000 in sales across several accounts — the company takes most of it, right? For a freelancer, that whole amount becomes your income.
    19AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:45

Anyone saying competition is fierce is one of three things: no real skills, stuck in a red-ocean industry, or has a seriously bad attitude. Freelancing is such that if you look at the bottom, it's endlessly, pathetically miserable. But just by being reasonably competent you land in the top 10% and earn fine. And FYI, freelancers in specialized fields AI can't take over are still making plenty of money.
    26AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:50

Between a freelancer costing ¥600,000 as a contractor and an employee at ¥300,000, companies will pick the freelancer every time. Well, depends on the line of work though.
    37AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:58
If it all comes down to the type of work anyway, the people pushing back on Re: #1 aren't wrong either — so why does everyone keep snapping at each other?
    40AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:01
    Re: #37
It's tricky. That said, freelancing obviously needs more skill than being some sidelined employee doing nothing in particular — you're basically earning by selling that skill piece by piece. Well, if you're not even motivated to build up a specialized skill in the first place, being a regular employee might suit you better.
    38AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:58

    105AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:42
Ah, so you can't incorporate because you're dodging taxes. If you're earning a decent amount, an accountant would normally recommend it.
    106AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:43
    Re: #105
You need to earn a bit more before incorporating makes sense — like ¥20,000,000 a year in revenue. ¥10,000,000 is right on the edge.
    111AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:45
You keep telling us to 'just read the thread' without giving concrete earnings or tax-saving methods, so… A company employee's ¥3,000,000 annual salary includes guarantees and costs the company shoulders, so as a sole proprietor you'd need to earn ¥5,000,000-6,000,000 just to break even with that. If you're only claiming half of that, that's basically the same as a student grinding a part-time job, or someone working right at the edge of the dependent income limit.
    121AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:50

I haven't said a word about my actual line of work, and yet it's nothing but idiots here. If you think about it calmly, combining a product-sales business with work-from-home freelancing on the side, it's not an impossible number to hit lol. I don't feel like talking about this anymore, so I'll stop here lol.
    137AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:58

    Re: #135
If it's product sales, the expense ratio probably isn't great. Work-from-home freelancing, on the other hand, probably has a low expense ratio.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Unlike company employees, freelancers (sole proprietors) have to cover on their own the indirect costs a company otherwise shoulders — half of social insurance premiums, paid leave, retirement benefits, and so on — so comparing raw freelance revenue directly to an employee’s monthly salary tends to make the freelance figure look higher than it really is. The thread itself raised this point, noting that “a company employee’s ¥3,000,000 annual salary, once you factor in what the company covers, is roughly equivalent to a sole proprietor earning ¥5,000,000-6,000,000” — a commonly cited pitfall of naive income comparisons. Also, because the original poster never revealed their actual line of work or tax-saving methods, there was no way to verify whether the claimed numbers were genuinely achievable, and the discussion devolved into a stalemate — a structure typical of this kind of thread. Practical details were scattered throughout too, like the instability that comes from freelance income being directly tied to hours worked, and rough benchmarks for incorporating (annual revenue of ¥10,000,000-20,000,000) — worth reading as reference material rather than taking entirely at face value.

Some predicted Kishida Momoka would join ANGERME, citing her BP (Best Performance) award history, open slots in each group, and height balance, while others pushed back, questioning the pick based on the vocal ability of ANGERME’s existing members — leaving opinions split.

So it's confirmed: Aoki Yuuna & Tamura Nana → ANGERME, Miyazaki Riho & Kishida Momoka → Juice, Hattori Rua & Nemoto Karin → Tsubaki, Sakamoto Aoi → OCHA?

Just the take of someone watching from home who hasn't seen them on stage
Yamamoto should be first, no question
    6AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:47
    What about Yoshida?

Kotomi's promotion is a lock once she can dance — go for it

    Re: #10
Her singing's not great either, though…
    12AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:49
Riho-chan probably wants to go to Juice=Juice, but part of me hopes some mix-up lands her in Morning Musume instead… (crying)
    14AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:50
Not letting mutual feelings work out — that's Up-Front Group for you
    16AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:53
Just promote her to OCHA already
Don't you get that Aoi and Nanami's time together is ticking away by the second?
    17AnonymousSep 22, 2026 10:53
Tamura can pull off cool dance moves even in JS (Juice=Juice)
Want to welcome her in yellow — switch Nagano to pink instead

If the Tohoku Black Panther doesn't end up in ANGERME, there'll be a riot
    23AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:02
'Tohoku Black Panther' really is a great nickname when you think about it lol

    27AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:13

What ever happened to Sugihara Akisa, who named Matsumoto Wakana as the senpai she looked up to?
    41AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:56
    Juice=Juice antis

"Nishimura's a lock for Juice" — Wrong ⇒ went to Tsubaki
"Miyakoshi's a lock for Juice" — Wrong ⇒ left the group
"Otsubo's a lock for Juice" — Wrong ⇒ went to BEYOOOOONDS
"Ishikawa's a lock for Juice" — Wrong ⇒ went to Morning Musume

Every anti prediction misses without fail

    Re: #41
So that means Yoshida too, huh
    47AnonymousSep 22, 2026 11:58
Why Kishida-to-ANGERME is the top theory

    • ANGERME is the only group with no BP award winner in 10 years
    • ANGERME has an open slot
    • ANGERME has no new members planned this year (keeping the slot open for Kishida?)
    • ANGERME has no member from Hiroshima (Morning Musume, Juice=Juice, and OCHA NORMA all do)
    • ANGERME is a shorter-average-height group, so Kishida would fit right in
    • ANGERME doesn't have a single member you'd call a real vocalist (they need Kishida, who can sing)
    • ANGERME is struggling and needs a boost

If she wins BP, it's ANGERME for sure
    65AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:24
    Re: #47
Do you seriously think Kishida could become a vocal member ahead of Ise, Matsumoto, Hirayama, Goto, and Nagano?
    58AnonymousSep 22, 2026 12:12
Miyazaki Riho is a lock for Juice=Juice
Nobody who's ever won the Miyamoto Karin Award has failed to join

    Re: #83
What about last year's Nemoto winning the Ishida Ayumi Award?

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In Hello! Project, which affiliated group (ANGERME, Juice=Juice, Tsubaki Factory, OCHA NORMA, etc.) a trainee is assigned to upon promotion to full member status isn’t confirmed until the agency makes an official announcement. The split in this thread centered on Kishida Momoka possibly joining ANGERME: some argued for it based on circumstantial factors like the group’s lack of a BP award winner, its open slot, its shorter average height, and its lack of a true vocalist, while others pushed back by pointing to the skill of ANGERME’s current vocal members. On Miyazaki Riho, some cited the track record that every past Miyamoto Karin Award winner has gone on to join Juice=Juice, while others noted exceptions like Murakoshi Ayana, who didn’t join Juice=Juice despite winning the award — showing the pattern doesn’t always hold. Worth keeping in mind: assignments tend to prioritize the agency’s own judgment over a member’s personal wishes, and fan predictions often don’t match the eventual official announcement.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Hello! Project) thread “Aoki Yuuna & Tamura Nana → ANGERME, Miyazaki Riho & Kishida Momoka → Juice, Hattori Rua & Nemoto Karin → Tsubaki, Sakamoto Aoi → OCHA — it’s confirmed, right?“.
