  • First-Ever Red Super Chat Gets Ignored — Sparks Debate Over Whether Paying for Attention Is ‘Shameless’

A user’s account of sending a Super Chat to their favorite streamer, only to be completely ignored, touched off a debate on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board over whether red Super Chats (the top-tier, priciest donation color on YouTube) are shameless. One post dismissed the act of throwing money for “recognition” as pathetic, prompting a counterattack: “If craving recognition is shameless, then posting on this board is no different.” From there the thread spiraled into jabs comparing it to a hostess club, and pointed remarks that “the streamer is the one actually profiting here.” Neither side budged, and the argument never really went anywhere.

    18AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:04
The moment you want your favorite streamer to notice you via Super Chat, that's already shameless if you ask me.
    19AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:05
    Re: #18
If wanting recognition is shameless, every post on this board is guilty too.

    Re: #19
I never said wanting recognition is shameless.
I said throwing money at someone just to get noticed is shameless.
At the end of the day it's driven by ulterior motives more than celebration or gratitude.
And I'm not posting here because I want replies either.

Funny how you declare you don't want replies while writing a desperate wall of text.
If you had zero ulterior motives you'd just watch in silence — no money, no posts.

Even if you're a fool who can't see reality, that doesn't make it okay to make others miserable for money.
    133AnonymousSep 27, 2026 03:19
    Re: #122
Where'd you buy the setting where one line of "not interested" saves everyone?
Throwing a Super Chat or watching one is on the individual — deciding it makes someone else miserable is just your own delusion.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Super Chat donations get a cut taken by YouTube before the rest goes to the streamer, and whether a message actually gets read out loud is entirely up to the streamer’s discretion — there’s no guarantee it’ll be treated the way the sender hopes. The thread split along one core fault line: is donating money inherently shameless because it’s driven by a craving for recognition, or is posting on a message board just as much an expression of that same craving, only a matter of degree? Both sides kept needling each other without ever finding common ground. Note that the specifics of the original incident — why the Super Chat was ignored, how much was donated, or how the streamer responded — aren’t included in the quoted material and remain unknown. Partway through this back-and-forth, the thread veered off into unrelated chatter, and this piece extracts only the core of the argument, leaving those tangents aside.

  • Slime Season 4 Under Fire for Plot That’s Basically Overlord

A thread on 5ch’s Nanademo Jikkyo board kicked off after a poster pointed out that the plot of the anime That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 bears a striking resemblance to Overlord. Commenters zeroed in on the lopsided power distribution — Rimuru has four Primordial Demons serving him, while his ally Guy Crimson only has two — as well as the recurring pattern in the light novels where the Great Sage bails out Rimuru’s officers whenever they’re cornered. Opinions were split on the series’ escalating power creep. Some also noted the anime has already overtaken the manga adaptation’s story progress.

Rimuru's officers get wrecked by an enemy officer
    ↓
They're totally helpless, one step from defeat
    ↓
The Great Sage grants them power for a comeback win

That's like 80% of the story from here on

Rimuru himself barely struggles at all — he just uses power the Great Sage prepped in advance before things get rough, and wins

At this point, who's the strongest out of Rimuru, Veldora, and Diablo?
And going forward, does an enemy stronger than all three of them actually show up?
    84AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:18
    By the Empire arc,
there's an enemy so strong that even the three demon girls fighting together can't beat a single one of its clones — and that enemy is roughly on par with Veldora.
And that same enemy can't even land a scratch on Rimuru, gets completely shut out.
The power gap is already that big.
And it just keeps widening from here.

Since the enemies attack in a scattered fashion, you do get scenes of the officers struggling against the weaker enemy officers,
but personally it feels pretty lame that even if every enemy officer except the final boss showed up at once, they still couldn't put a single scratch on Rimuru.
It's like watching the weak ones just mess around with each other.

    93AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:26
From Guy's perspective (his VA is Ishida Akira, hence the fan nickname) it's almost sad — you look away for one second and suddenly Rimuru's got four previously-unaffiliated Primordials plus the Storm Dragon at his side and has turned his nation into a full-blown magical superpower. Enough to make your head spin.

    Re: #93
The power creep's gotten so bad it's almost funny — you forget why Guy was even making such a fuss about Rimuru back then.
The gap between Guy and the other Primordials is now so wide that even all of them (minus Diablo) attacking him together probably couldn't even slow him down.
The later wave of stronger enemies power-crept so hard that at this point none of the Primordials except Guy and Diablo even matter anymore.
    105AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:36
Come to think of it, I thought the anime was based on the manga adaptation rather than the original source, but Season 4 has now overtaken the manga's story progress.
Is Kawakami's Slime (the anime) going to branch off into its own continuity, like how Sadamoto's Evangelion manga diverged from the original?
    107AnonymousSep 27, 2026 01:38
    Re: #105
It's not so much the manga — the light novel is the original source.
The web novel and light novel versions differ quite a bit.
The manga is ultimately just an adaptation of the light novel.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Slime originated as a web novel on “Shousetsuka ni Narou,” and the story was heavily rewritten when it was published as light novels — Season 4 of the anime is following that light-novel version. Overlord is likewise a web-novel-turned-isekai series, but its protagonist is overwhelmingly powerful from the very start, which sets it apart in premise from Slime, where Rimuru grows in strength alongside his subordinates. The thread’s disagreement centered on whether the recurring pattern of the Great Sage bailing out cornered officers reads as “well-paced” or “lacking tension” — a divide that tends to fall along the line between anime-only viewers and those who’ve read the source material. As for the claim that the anime has overtaken the manga adaptation, that comes down to a difference in pacing between the original light novels and the manga, and it raises the possibility that the anime and manga could diverge in future story developments.

  • Do You Really Need Your Own Car? 5ch: ‘In a Kei Car, Even the Weight of Your Life Is Featherlight’

A thread titled “Do you seriously not need your own car?” appeared on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, kicking off a debate that began with the question of whether city-dwelling singles even need a car. The discussion mixed economic arguments with real-life perspectives — from calls to raise vehicle tax as a “tax on luxury goods,” to claims that Toyota’s domestic sales amount to a net loss for Japan once imported raw materials are factored in, to a debate over the safety of kei (mini) cars. Practical talk about whether leasing or buying is the better deal also came up, and the thread ended up highlighting how differences in where and how people live shape opinions on whether a car is truly necessary.

    1AnonymousSep 26, 2026 22:10
Cars are a luxury good, so I think they should raise the vehicle tax more on non-commercial vehicles.

Since most of the raw materials are imported and the cars run on imported fuel, selling cars domestically is basically the same as Uniqlo, Nitori, or Daiso importing goods from overseas and selling them here.

Seriously cuts down on how much money you spend on cars.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Vehicle tax is levied based on engine displacement, and the argument that “if cars are a luxury, taxes should go up” is nothing new. But the thread’s claim that “Toyota’s domestic sales amount to a net loss for the country once imported raw materials are included” oversimplifies the trade balance and hasn’t been economically verified. It’s true that Toyota sells more cars overseas than domestically, but concluding from that alone that domestic demand equals a net loss is a logical leap. As for the crash safety of kei cars, current models do meet crash safety standards, so “crumple and catch fire” is an exaggeration — though it’s worth noting that, due to their smaller body size, kei cars genuinely do have less crumple space to absorb impact. The thread started from the practical question of whether a car is really needed for city living, but in the later half it drifted into exchanges that dressed themselves up as economic debate while really just mocking other posters, with the bickering overshadowing the substance.

Project board that Hoshibe Sho and YOKO wrote the new single for DRAW♡ME, an idol group that emerged from the video-streaming project “Noblock.” Since the song’s style closely resembles Hello! Project’s sound, some posters claimed the label had gotten permission from Up-Front, which runs Hello! Project, to use it. The thread buzzed with comparisons like “you can’t tell it apart from Juice=Juice,” along with members’ backgrounds and the story of how the group was formed. Opinions on the song and the management’s approach were split, with praise and criticism running side by side.

So apparently they even got permission from Up-Front for doing a Hello!-Project-style song

Moriwaki Ririka, a regular on "Noblock," was originally into watching idols as a hobby, so she pitched the idea to Sakuma that she wanted to try being an idol herself. She gathered other regular members from Noblock to form the group — it was supposed to be a limited-time thing, but since it turned out more fun than expected and got a good response, they decided to keep it going, and now a major-label debut is set too.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

DRAW♡ME is an idol group formed at the initiative of Moriwaki Ririka, a regular performer on Sakuma’s streaming project “Noblock.” It was originally meant to be a limited-run project, but its popularity led to a major-label debut. Hoshibe Sho, who wrote the new single, is a composer who has also worked on Hello! Project-related releases, which explains why the song’s style resembles that scene. The claim in the thread that “permission was obtained from Up-Front” comes from a single poster’s comment, not an official announcement, so it should be noted that this hasn’t been confirmed as fact. Opinions within the thread were also divided over the view count of content featuring member Nihei, suggesting that the group’s name recognition and the evaluation of their actual output don’t necessarily line up.

  • Goto Hana Says ‘Cockroaches Outlive Humans, So I’m Their Descendant’ — Fans React

On September 26, 2026, ANGERME’s Goto Hana said during the MC segment of a concert in Ise, Mie Prefecture: “The G in ANGERME is Goto’s G, but it’s also the G in gokiburi (cockroach) — and since cockroaches have lived longer than humans, I’m a descendant of cockroaches too.” The remark quickly hit the 5ch Hello! Project board, sparking laughs and a new nickname, “Gokijurumu,” while also drawing puzzled reactions given that a thread titled “The Face of Someone Who’d Overcome Something” had been posted just before it. The thread ended up split between people enjoying it as a pure gag and others voicing worry or suspicion over the out-of-character remark.

Who even pays attention to what ANGERME's G stands for

    Background and Talking Points

ANGERME is an idol group under the Hello! Project umbrella, and matching each letter of the group’s name to a member’s initial has long been a running bit among fans — Goto’s comment is an extension of that tradition. The claim that cockroaches’ ancestors predate the emergence of humans by a wide margin isn’t actually wrong as a piece of evolutionary trivia, but bringing it up during an MC segment struck some as “out of character” for her. Reactions in the thread split between those simply enjoying it as wordplay and those who, recalling an earlier thread titled “The Face of Someone Who’d Overcome Something” (>>5), read the shift in her tone with concern or suspicion. Some comments in the latter camp made baseless assumptions about her physical or mental state, and such unsubstantiated claims have been excluded from this article.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Goto Hana: “ANGERME’s G is Goto’s G, but it’s also the G in cockroach — and since cockroaches have lived longer than humans, I’m a descendant of cockroaches too”.”

Suzuran Ise, leader of the Hello! Project group Angerme, updated her blog in tears on the night she wrapped up a concert in Ise City — a place that happens to share her surname. On 5ch’s Hello! Talk of a possible return to Ise next spring, teased during the show’s MC segment, also became a hot topic.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Suzuran Ise is the member serving as leader of the Hello! Project group Angerme. The episode that caught fans’ attention on the thread — the mayor of Ise personally buying merchandise with his own money — appears to have become a highlight of the regional show thanks to the coincidental link between the city’s name and her surname. At the same time, some posters pointed to an earlier blog post in which she wrote something to the effect of “it’s fine even if you don’t watch us,” questioning how that squares with her latest declaration that she’ll “cherish you forever.” It’s also worth noting that the talk of a return to Ise next spring, raised during the MC, isn’t a confirmed plan — she later explained she’d simply said it in the heat of the moment. Fan reactions are split between warm support and harsher criticism, showing that opinions on her conduct as leader are far from unanimous.

    Background and Key Points

This “quiz thread” is a long-running buzzer-quiz event on 5ch’s VIP board, with question formats and participation rules laid out on a dedicated wiki. This time, two question-setters took turns running a two-part event, “Mid-Autumn Open” and “Sprinters S,” with the latter featuring an elaborate scoring system in which points are calculated as 12 divided by finishing rank. The questions themselves ranged widely — from movie theme songs and NHK dramas to the history of the Japan Football Association and population shifts among local municipalities — turning the thread into more of a trivia showcase than mere time-killing. Worth noting: the claim that Koriyama City overtook Iwaki City in population is based on estimated figures as of August 2025, not a finalized census result. There was little disagreement over answers within the thread itself; the only real “discussion” was a comment about question difficulty (>>165).

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (News VIP) thread “[Best to Answer Honestly?] Saturday Night Quiz Thread [A Speed-Focused Joint Event!].”

  • Hanshin’s Teruaki Sato on pace for Triple Crown with .315 average, 35 HR, 100 RBI — 5ch: ‘Clearly pathetic next to the greats’

A 5ch thread picked up on the fact that Hanshin Tigers slugger Teruaki Sato is on pace for the Central League Triple Crown with a .315 average, 35 home runs, and 100 RBIs. The thread’s original poster opened by arguing these numbers pale next to past Triple Crown winners, declaring Sato “looks set to become the worst Triple Crown winner in history” — touching off a mix of pushback and agreement. The debate centered on whether this season’s modest numbers stem from a league-wide pitching-dominant trend, or whether the league’s overall level has simply dropped as star hitters keep leaving for MLB, with comparisons stretching all the way to Nobuhiko Matsunaka, Hiromitsu Ochiai, Munetaka Murakami, and Kazuma Okamoto.

If other guys' numbers are low too, that means the whole league's in a pitching-dominant era right now.

Of course you compare against whoever's actually in the league right now.

    Re: #106
Assuming Sato keeps his current average, if he gets around 23 hits over the remaining 7 games, maybe…

Background and key points of the debate

A “Triple Crown” means leading the league in all three of batting average, home runs, and RBIs at once. The thread was sparked by the fact that Teruaki Sato’s numbers (.315 average, 35 home runs, 100 RBIs) look weak next to those of past Triple Crown winners, with names like Nobuhiko Matsunaka and Hiromitsu Ochiai brought up for comparison. The debate split into roughly two camps: one held that “the whole league is in a pitching-dominant season, so standing out under those conditions doesn’t diminish the achievement,” while the other argued that “the league’s level has simply dropped as star hitters keep leaving for MLB.” Posters also flagged the difficulty of comparing stats across eras, with some suggesting wRC+ as a fairer metric. Note that the home run/RBI comparisons with Munetaka Murakami and Kazuma Okamoto, along with the OPS and on-base percentage figures cited, are all snapshots tallied on the fly within the thread, reflecting mid-season numbers (as of September 26, 2026). The claim that an OBP under .400 would be unprecedented for a Triple Crown winner is likewise just thread speculation, not a confirmed record.

※This article was compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nanademo Jikkyo G) thread “Sad news: Teruaki Sato looks set to become the worst Triple Crown winner in history.”

  • No-Nori Rice Balls and 500-Yen Combo Meals Become the New Normal: 5ch Buzzes Over ‘Japan’s Impoverishment’

A thread titled “Japan is genuinely becoming impoverished” on 5ch’s Newsoku VIP board kicked off with everyday observations: convenience store rice balls now come with less seaweed (nori), and McDonald’s has rolled out a bargain 500-yen combo set. From there the discussion expanded into a clash over whether poverty is a matter of personal responsibility or political failure, a gap between reported wage growth and what people actually feel in their wallets, and even the observation that “it’s always the vulnerable who attack the vulnerable hardest.”

One argument going around that really gets to me:
"If all you can do is blue-collar work, it's because you didn't study hard enough, and that's on you — tough luck if life is hard or you can't afford kids"

Realistically, unless even blue-collar workers can afford to have kids, the country can't sustain itself, lol
Well, lately there's actually a reversal happening where blue-collar work is becoming more livable
But if the industrial structure is set up so certain jobs simply can't support a living, that's a failure of politics, not the individual's fault

Looking at real wage growth rates is probably the realistic approach
That, or how starting salaries for new grads have risen, since that tends to make the news

Just citing raw annual income figures — "it went up," "it went down" — isn't great either
but unless someone says something like "it doubled in five years," these internet types never actually specify what point in time they're comparing to or by how much it rose
    137AnonymousSep 26, 2026 19:28

    That looks kind of gross

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Reports of wage increases in recent years have mostly referred to the results of major corporations’ spring wage negotiations (shunto), with base pay hikes of around 5-6% reported one after another since 2024. At the same time, real wages — factoring in small and mid-sized businesses and non-regular employment — struggle to keep pace with rising prices, creating a structure prone to a gap between the numbers and how life actually feels. The thread shows exactly this: the sense that “we’re becoming impoverished” surfaces right alongside observations that “high-rise condos and luxury watches are selling like crazy,” which likely reflects a polarization where spending grows at both the low and high ends while the middle shrinks. The debate over whether this is personal responsibility or political failure is also hard to reduce to a simple either/or, given that structural factors behind the wage gap — such as low-wage labor tied to the Foreign Technical Intern Training Program — can’t be explained by individual effort alone.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary from the 5ch (Newsoku VIP) thread “[Sad News] Japan Is Genuinely, Seriously, No Joke, Becoming ‘Impoverished’…….”

  • Ashio Copper Mine, Hokkaido University Floated as Next World Heritage Candidates — 5ch: ‘Hokudai Is Older Than Todai’

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo” (Live Sports/News) board asked which Japanese cultural properties and natural sites should be registered as World Heritage Sites next. The thread starter proposed candidates like the Ashio Copper Mine and Hokkaido University, and asked other posters to suggest one more. Some argued the Ashio Copper Mine — the site of Japan’s first major pollution disaster — should be registered as “negative heritage,” much like the Atomic Bomb Dome, while others pointed out that Hokkaido University is “Japan’s first modern institution of higher education, older than the University of Tokyo.” From there the discussion expanded to Ise Grand Shrine, Kamakura, Tokyo Station, Mt. Takao, and Mitsumine Shrine, with posters disagreeing over just what counts as “World Heritage-worthy.”

By the way, by prefecture, Iwate and Nara have the most (three World Heritage Sites each):
・Iwate: Hiraizumi, Hashino Iron Mining and Smelting Site, Gosho-no Site (Jomon)
    ・Nara: Horyu-ji, Ancient Nara, Asuka-Fujiwara

(Note: If Yahata and Miike get counted separately, Fukuoka would also have three — the other one being Munakata.)

Yakushima (Natural Heritage) — registered 1993
Amami-Oshima, Tokunoshima, northern Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island (Natural Heritage) — registered 2021
Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution (Cultural Heritage) — registered 2015

・Ashio Copper Mine (Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture; formerly Ashio Town, Kamitsuga District)

Because it was the site of Japan's first pollution disaster.
It should be registered as "negative heritage," like the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima.

・Lake Chuzenji (Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture)

The Shrines and Temples of Nikko (Nikko Toshogu, Nikkosan Rinno-ji, etc.) are already registered as Cultural Heritage, so I'd like Lake Chuzenji registered as Natural Heritage too.
By the way, the lake originally had no fish at all, but it's now famous as a trout habitat.

Hokkaido University (formerly Sapporo Agricultural College)

Because it's Japan's first modern university.
It was actually founded before the University of Tokyo (Todai).

Its flagship faculties are Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries Sciences (though Fisheries is based in Hakodate).
The Veterinary Medicine faculty in particular is said to be on par with Todai's Science II track, and harder to get into than some mediocre medical schools.

People sometimes say "Hokkaido University (Sapporo) is a branch campus of Tohoku University (Sendai)," but strictly speaking the school itself actually existed in Sapporo first — it just relocated its headquarters to Sendai.

By the way, Tohoku University is strong in the sciences (especially engineering), but not so strong in the humanities…
(In fact, Akita International University (AIU) is considered a higher level, so Tohoku University isn't even the top school in the Tohoku region.)

Also, the admission difficulty (hensachi) for the Faculty of Letters is actually higher at Hokkaido University — even though Hokudai has a reputation as the weakest of the old imperial universities.
(Though that's partly because Tohoku University requires math on its second-stage exam even for the Faculty of Letters, while Hokkaido University lets you compete using history/geography instead.)

    ・Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store (MITSUKOSHI)

Because it was Asia's first full-fledged department store! Its contribution is huge.
The building itself is a work of art — a lion statue stands at the main entrance, and there's a massive sculpture in the central hall. It's not just a department store anymore, it's the "King of Department Stores."
By the way, the Mitsukoshi main store is also one of the few department stores designated an Important Cultural Property by the government! (The other is Nihombashi Takashimaya.)

    Background and Talking Points

A site only becomes a World Heritage Site after the government first places it on a “Tentative List” and it then clears UNESCO review — simply being named in a forum thread doesn’t make it an official candidate. The idea of preserving the Ashio Copper Mine, the origin point of Japan’s pollution problems, as “negative heritage” — and the push to keep ruins like Okawa Elementary School as a reminder of the lessons from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami — echo real, ongoing debates happening across Japan, with the Atomic Bomb Dome as a precedent. At the same time, while some posters championed the historical value of places like Hokkaido University and the Nihombashi Mitsukoshi main store, others were skeptical about Mitsumine Shrine, asking “what exactly about this is world-class heritage?” — and that gap in what counts as “World Heritage-worthy” is a big part of what fueled the discussion. The little-known fact that Hokkaido University predates the Imperial University of Tokyo also caught people’s attention as a surprising bit of history.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo) thread “[Top 4] Japanese Cultural Properties and Nature That Should Be the Next World Heritage Site: “Sanriku Coast,” “Ashio Copper Mine,” “Hokkaido University”.”
