  • ‘Get Smacked by Sohin’ Post Goes Viral — Juice=Juice Quote-Tweet Video Joins the Fun

CANDY TUNE’s new song, given its first-ever TV performance on CDTV, features a segment where all seven members take turns asking “Am I cute?” One viewer summed it up with the post “These girls really need a smack from Sohin (a Japanese comedian known for comedic bits where he scolds and ‘smacks’ annoying things) once,” and it took off on social media. The buzz grew even further when someone quote-tweeted a video set to the Juice=Juice song “BLOODY BULLET,” paired with the lyric “All these questions are exhausting — please be quiet for a bit.” The story made its way to the Hello! Project board on 5channel, where opinion split over the scale of the likes: was this genuine widespread sympathy, or just people piling on for attention?

Even the original post only got likes because people thought "yeah, these girls really do deserve a smack from Sohin" — it's not some declaration of "I love CANDY TUNE!" Especially since Kawa Lab (nickname for CANDY TUNE) isn't nearly as strong on X as it is on TikTok, and isn't well liked there.

More importantly, is it okay that it's basically a ripoff of Petitmoni? None of the Hello! Project otaku are even watching CANDY TUNE's actual songs anyway.

In yesterday's Ookami (5ch live-commentary) thread, people were saying 'Isn't this just Petitmoni?' lol
    75AnonymousSep 1, 2026 14:03
Someone who just wears a Michishige T-shirt at his own shows writes a song that rips off Petitmoni, hands it to some group outside Hello! Project instead of Hello! itself, and gets a pass because 'he's on our side' — somebody explain that logic to me.
    76AnonymousSep 1, 2026 14:04
The general public's just tired of 'kawaii' at this point, isn't it.
    77AnonymousSep 1, 2026 14:05
More than being tired of it, I think a lot of people just can't tell one group from another anymore — which one's CANDY TUNE, which one's Suisute (another similarly-styled idol group)…
    78AnonymousSep 1, 2026 14:05
Where exactly is it ripping off Petitmoni?

    85AnonymousSep 1, 2026 14:31
    'Totally!' 'Totally!' 'Totally!' 'Totally!' 'Totally!'
'I get it!' 'I get it!' 'I get it!' 'I get it!' 'I get it!'

This part is exactly the same as Petitmoni's 'right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right' bit.

    Background and Points of Debate

There’s a real gap in scale behind this viral moment: the original post racked up 22,000 likes, while the quote-tweet that reignited it got only 3,776. Commenters in the thread pointed out this looks like “fake viral hype,” a reminder to take claims of something “going viral” on social media with a grain of salt rather than assuming the raw numbers tell the whole story. Likewise, the claim that CANDY TUNE’s song structure resembles Petitmoni’s is just a subjective opinion voiced on 5channel, not a confirmed fact. Hello! Project runs a large number of groups, and overlapping trends in songs and costumes aren’t unusual, which is why some in the thread admitted they can no longer tell which song belongs to which group. It’s also worth keeping in mind that topics involving popularity comparisons between groups tend to spark emotional clashes between fan bases.

  • Female Idol MVP Debate: AKB48’s Ito Momoka or Morning Musume’s Kawashima Mifu?

A thread titled “Can we just settle it — this year’s female idol MVP is AKB48’s Ito Momoka, right?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project (“Haropuro”) board. “Suki-ish,” the single centered on Ito Momoka, reportedly beat FRUITS ZIPPER and the Sakamichi-series groups to take the No. 1 spot in first-week CD sales among female idols in 2026, with its music video said to have topped 10 million views. But board regulars didn’t just nod along — objections poured in, from “if we’re talking buzz, it’s Juice=Juice’s Danbara Ruru” to “isn’t the real MVP Morning Musume ’26’s Kawashima Mifu?” Opinions split hard over the legitimacy of the “multi-copy bundle” sales tactics propping up those CD numbers, and over how to read the MV’s view-count growth.

Strip out the paid ad views and the MV's numbers are guaranteed to be lower than the last single's, and for the CD they're not even bothering with the usual bonus-item trick anymore — they're still running a straight-up 3-copy bundle deal to pad the count.

    Re: #60
To each their own, as they say. Really, truly.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

CD sales for AKB48-affiliated groups have long drawn criticism over bonus-item and multi-copy “bundle” sales tactics that push fans toward buying several copies of the same single at once, and this thread’s claim of a “No. 1 first-week sales” result is disputed on the same grounds — namely, how much of that total comes from bonus-driven bulk purchases rather than organic demand. The MV view count is similarly contested: posters disagree over how many of those views are “genuine” once paid advertising placements are excluded, and the 10-million and 14-million view figures cited in the thread are not official numbers from the artists themselves, just posters’ own back-of-envelope comparisons. It’s also worth flagging that Ito Momoka’s supposed spot in this year’s Kohaku Uta Gassen lineup (NHK’s flagship New Year’s Eve singing show) is unconfirmed chatter within the thread, not an official announcement — an easy point for readers to mistake as settled fact. Finally, this thread appeared on the “Hello! Project board,” which draws mostly Morning Musume and Juice=Juice fans, so opinions of AKB48 voiced here may carry that board’s particular slant rather than reflect a neutral consensus.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Can we just settle it — this year’s female idol MVP is AKB48’s Ito Momoka, right?“

  • Wave of Hello! Project Graduates Losing Their Fans After Leaving — 5ch: “Airi Suzuki Is the Only One Who’s Kept Her Popularity”

There’s been debate on 5ch’s Hello!Project board over how much popularity former Hello!Project members retain after graduating. The thread cited a list of X (Twitter) follower counts — Haruka Kudo with 124,000, Yuka Nihei with 79,000, and Karin Miyamoto with 73,000 — pointing out that popularity within a group doesn’t necessarily translate into solo drawing power. The rare exception named was Airi Suzuki, who reportedly inherited her group’s entire fanbase when it disbanded and got off to a strong start on her own, while posters repeatedly noted that other graduates are struggling just to fill livehouse venues.

The big thing with Airi Suzuki is that her group folded, so all its fans funneled straight to her and she got off to a strong start

That's just how it goes for all the OGs

Background and key points of this discussion

In Hello!Project, it’s common for a group to keep going even after an individual member graduates from it, which means that, as this thread shows, even members who once filled huge venues to capacity while active get re-evaluated purely on their own solo drawing power once they leave. It’s worth noting that the X (Twitter) follower figures cited in the thread come from an anonymous poster’s own tally and aren’t officially confirmed numbers. Opinions were split on how to read Airi Suzuki’s case: some argued that because her group disbanded, its fanbase never got divided and instead consolidated around her, while others pointed out that she actually struggled to build an audience early on. What most posters agreed on was a more structural point — that fans are often supporting the group as a framework rather than the individual member, which makes it easy for them to shift their support to a group’s current members the moment someone graduates.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello!Project board) thread “The Hello!Project member who was so popular, but somehow lost her otaku the moment she graduated.”

  • Famous Writer Asks: ‘OCHA NORMA Is Great, So Why Aren’t They Selling?’ — Doubts Swirl Around Hello! Project

Music writer Tatsunori Tokushige watched OCHA NORMA perform at the “@JAM” festival and posted on social media wondering, “They’re cute and their performance is great, so why aren’t they selling?” — sparking a debate on 5channel’s Hello! Project board. The thread ranged widely, from the observation that “now that Juice=Juice has become a hit, we can’t use ‘well, it’s Hello! Project’ as an excuse for not selling anymore,” to an analysis citing regional tour attendance figures suggesting “fans outside the big cities are noticing the group’s appeal faster,” to comments pointing at individual members’ performance and the agency’s lack of promotion.

    Re: #52
Dambara isn't the ace, and honestly she's not even the center
Sounds like you're struggling with words

What OCHA is truly worse than Juice at is having a leader — that's the real gap
Nothing to be done about that now, so they'll just have to take a different approach than Juice

Pull Yonemura out of center and put the contrasting duo of Kitahara and Kubota in the center instead
Keep the skill supported by Nishizaki and Tsutsui, and use Yonemura and Saito sparingly at key moments

Overall performance level isn't really behind Juice's, but OCHA's real problem is what to do about their weak fan service

    Re: #79
That's on the crappy agency for booking a tour full of small venues
Wanting them to sell more is really about wanting them to become more appealing — and if they get more appealing, they'll sell more as a natural result
    That more-appealing = more-selling thing
If the audience just doubled as things stand now, that'd be nothing but a downside, we don't need that

We just want to see them looking great — through good songs, cute outfits, media exposure, and smart online strategy
    92AnonymousAug 30, 2026 21:43
    They ARE selling, actually
The fall tour's regional dates don't even need a second round of ticket sales
Fans outside the big cities are noticing the group's appeal before people in Kanto, Kansai, and Nagoya are

Probably because regional fans don't get many live shows, so they end up seeing everything that comes through
In the regions people tend to go 'DD' (idol-fan slang for someone who follows many groups/members instead of just one) and watch a bit of everything
That's how they notice the group's appeal
Kanto, Kansai, and Nagoya fans get so many shows they specialize in one group
So they only watch the group they support, and they're slower to notice OCHA's appeal

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

OCHA NORMA joined Hello! Project in 2021. While their labelmate Juice=Juice has grown so popular this year that tickets have become a scramble, OCHA NORMA’s shows at multi-act festivals like @JAM have continued to have plenty of empty seats. The thread was split on the cause: some pointed to performance-side issues like members’ singing ability and the lack of a leader, while others pointed to promotion-side issues like the agency’s weak use of social media and its failure to share archival footage. One post laid out concrete attendance figures for the fall tour’s 12 regional shows (averaging 447 people), and offered the analysis that fans outside the big cities — where tickets are easier to get — end up seeing a wider variety of groups and so notice OCHA NORMA’s appeal more easily. It’s worth noting that “selling well” can mean several different things — sold-out tickets, attendance numbers, music sales, or social media buzz — and the thread wasn’t always consistent about which one it meant.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Hello! Project board) thread “Famous writer: ‘I watched OCHA NORMA’s stage at @JAM — they’re cute and their performance is great, so why aren’t they selling? Makes me question Hello! Project’.”

  • BABYMETAL’s Overseas Fanbase Concentrated in Latin America (31%) and North America (25%) — Other J-Pop Skews Heavily East Asian

A thread on 5ch (Hello! Project board) introduced data showing that BABYMETAL’s overseas listening patterns differ from other J-POP artists. Six acts — King Gnu, YOASOBI, Vaundy, Official HIGE DANDism, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, and Kenshi Yonezu — fall into a “Korea/Taiwan-concentrated” category, where an average of 52.7% of their overseas streams come from East Asia. Seven acts — Ado, Creepy Nuts, LiSA, ONE OK ROCK, XG, and Fujii Kaze — fall into a “globally distributed” category, streamed widely across Southeast Asia (26%), Latin America (20%), and East Asia (19%). BABYMETAL, by contrast, was singled out as clearly different from the other 13 acts, falling into a “Western-oriented” category with Latin America at 31%, North America at 25%, and Western Europe at 20% — showing a strikingly high share of listeners from Europe and the Americas.

    1AnonymousSep 1, 2026 01:53
They say "popular overseas," but isn't the nature of that popularity different?
BABYMETAL: in the West, it's actual local Western fans turning out.
Everyone else: even in the West, it's mostly Asian audiences turning out.
    3AnonymousSep 1, 2026 01:54
    "Korea/Taiwan-concentrated type"
King Gnu, YOASOBI, Vaundy, Official HIGE DANDism, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, Kenshi Yonezu, and others (6 acts)
An average of 52.7% of overseas streams are concentrated in East Asia, with Korean and Taiwanese listeners making up the bulk of overseas listening

    "Globally distributed type"
Ado, Creepy Nuts, LiSA, ONE OK ROCK, XG, Fujii Kaze, and others (7 acts)
Streamed widely — Southeast Asia 26%, Latin America 20%, East Asia 19% — though the Asia-region share still runs a bit high

    "Western-oriented type"
    BABYMETAL
Latin America 31%, North America 25%, Western Europe 20%, etc.
Clearly different from the other 13 acts, with overwhelmingly heavy listening from Europe, North/Central America, and South America

    https://hstorage.jp/dl/MdRDlpLB9eEd.png

    Background and Talking Points

No source is explicitly cited, but the content suggests this is an analysis based on the regional breakdown of listeners on streaming platforms like Spotify. What stands out is that it defines “overseas popularity” not by raw play counts but by regional distribution — and the finding that King Gnu, YOASOBI, and Kenshi Yonezu skew heavily toward East Asia, while BABYMETAL has built a distinct fanbase in the West through rock and metal festivals over the years, lines up with the group’s known trajectory. That said, the thread never verifies the source or the methodology behind the numbers, so they should be read with some caution. It’s an easy point to miss: what “popular overseas” actually means varies a lot by region depending on the artist. What this data suggests is that even acts lumped together as “going overseas” can end up being heard in very different regions depending on genre and promotional approach.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “The Difference Between BABYMETAL’s Overseas Popularity and Other J-POP/K-POP Acts’ Overseas Popularity, Part 31“.

  • Morning Musume. ’14 Members Post on SNS — Is a “Dream One-For” Reunion Coming for the 30th Anniversary?

After Nippon TV’s special “Tsunku♂ and the Legendary Morning Musume. ’14” aired, it became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello!Project board that nearly all the members of the ’14 lineup — known as the “One-For Members,” including Sayumi Michishige and Riho Sayashi — posted on social media. Since next year marks Morning Musume.’s 30th anniversary, there’s precedent for this: “Dream Morning Musume.” reunited for the 10th anniversary, “Pucchi Moni” and “Mini Moni.” for the 20th, and “W” for the 25th. While some in the thread are hoping for a “Dream One-For” reunion, opinions split over who should headline a revival project like past “Dreams” units, and over how well the ’14 generation’s songs actually hold up.

Seeing this, it really looks like Nonaka is planning to still be around for the 30th anniversary.
She's Kawabe's favorite member, after all.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Morning Musume. has a history of forming reunion units of past members for each anniversary. “Dream Morning Musume.” for the 10th anniversary, “Pucchi Moni,” “Mini Moni.,” “Tanpopo,” and “Biyuuden” for the 20th, and “W” for the 25th are the precedents. Since next year marks the group’s 30th anniversary, there’s talk of hoping for a “Dream One-For” built around the ’14 lineup (known as the “One-For Members,” a generation centered on Sayumi Michishige and Riho Sayashi, among others). The thread split mainly over two points: first, whether a reunion project should happen at all (the center of past “Dreams” projects has shifted generation by generation — from Natsumi Abe, to Maki Goto, to Michishige/Sayashi, to Mizuki Fukumura — so opinions varied depending on who’d be at the center next); and second, how to rate the ’14 generation’s songs themselves (some called the EDM-heavy lineup “nothing but great tracks,” while others said they “just don’t click”). Worth noting: “One-For” is a fan nickname, and as of this article there’s been no official announcement of an actual 30th-anniversary project.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello!Project board) thread “After yesterday’s Nippon TV special ‘Tsunku♂ and the Legendary Morning Musume. ’14’ — nearly all the One-For Members posted on SNS, but could a Dream One-For really happen next year?“

  • Maneki Kecak’s Iroha Mitsui Dropped From Agency Over Contract Violation, Birthday Event Canceled

On August 29, 2026, the official X account for idol group Maneki Kecak announced that it had terminated its management contract with member Iroha Mitsui effective the same day, after discovering what it called a “serious contract violation involving private exchanges with a specific fan.” Her previously scheduled birthday celebration event has also been canceled. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board, the thread lit up with debate over whether contract clauses restricting dating and private contact are even legally valid in the first place, alongside discussion of the group’s name recognition, the financial fallout from the canceled event, and talk of members who’ve left in the past.

    Oricon, 2026-08-30 08:20

The official X account for idol group Maneki Kecak was updated on the 29th, announcing the discovery of a “serious contract violation” involving member Iroha Mitsui and the termination of her management contract effective that day.

In a statement titled “An Important Announcement,” the agency reported: “Regarding Maneki Kecak member Iroha Mitsui, we have discovered a serious contract violation involving private exchanges with a specific fan, among other matters. Upon confirming the facts with her directly, she admitted that this was true. Taking this situation seriously, collet promotion Co., Ltd. has decided to terminate the management contract with Iroha Mitsui as of today, August 29, 2026, and we hereby inform you of this decision.”

I don't know much about idols, but this whole "contract termination as entertainment" thing is what WWE's Vince McMahon used to do in pro wrestling, right, the "You're fired!" bit
It was a long time ago now, but yeah, the drama of a contract termination is always compelling

It hooks in the "what was the reason" crowd, then delivers a clean, decisive final blow with one sharp declaration
As a form of mass entertainment there are multiple "chances to put on a show for the public," and the back-and-forth plays out clearly for everyone to see

    Nice, keep it up
    183AnonymousAug 30, 2026 14:56
    Re: #151
Well, the thing is pro wrestling itself isn't that well known around here

    Background and Talking Points

Idol contract clauses banning romance sit at the intersection of labor-contract law and image management for entertainment acts, so they often spark legal debate. In past court cases, some rulings have held that because the contract was premised on producing a “pure” image, a dating ban alone doesn’t rise to a violation of public order and morals — while other cases have found such restrictions (or the damages sought) invalid depending on their severity, so there’s no single answer. The phrase “private exchanges with a specific fan” used here could cover a broader range of conduct than a simple romantic relationship, and it’s worth noting the agency hasn’t disclosed specifics. The same-day announcement affecting already-scheduled events like the birthday celebration likely reflects practical concerns such as ticket refunds and venue arrangements — though as noted in the thread, many agencies instead swap in a substitute show, so how this ultimately plays out will depend on further reports.</analysis>

Re: #149 Exactly this. It's been a while since Morning Musume had a real chance to become a topic of conversation with the general public, and the staff not even trying to capitalize on it is just hopeless. Air footage from the New York live. Air behind-the-scenes footage from filming the 24-Hour TV drama. Get the current members to sing "Toki Sora" (a past Morning Musume single) and post it on YouTube. There were plenty of golden chances to show the world Morning Musume。is alive and well, and they let every one of them slip by — it's just hopeless. A Juice=Juice staff wouldn't let a chance like this go to waste.

    188AnonymousAug 31, 2026 22:13
Re: #181 Juice pays money to outsource their editing, don't they.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

At many idol groups, social media operations are managed by staff rather than the members themselves when it comes to posting frequency and content, meaning member enthusiasm alone doesn’t necessarily move the needle on how often things get posted. The thread itself raised this point too, saying it’s “supposed to be staff-led,” and it’s easy to conflate criticism aimed at Nonaka personally with frustration over how the staff handle things. Also, comparisons like the TikTok post-count breakdown (post #171) cited concrete numbers to highlight differences in how groups operate, but since each group’s follower base and target platform differ, post volume alone isn’t necessarily a fair measure of how well- or poorly-run a group’s strategy is. It’s also worth noting — though it wasn’t raised in the thread — that Morning Musume。and Juice=Juice differ in when they formed and how their activities are structured within Hello! Project, so any comparison between them comes with different underlying conditions.

Juice=Juice’s string of 2026 appearances on NHK General TV — “Venue101,” “Nodo Jiman,” and “Uta Con” — including collaborations with Fuyumi Sakamoto and Mei Tamura, has become a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Some in the thread see this pile-up of NHK appearances as a sign the group is being lined up for its first-ever Kohaku Uta Gassen appearance, while others counter with a cooler take, pointing out that Morning Musume. also appeared frequently on NHK programs the year it was snubbed for Kohaku — proof that “number of appearances” and “getting selected” are two different things. Much of the discussion centers on the group’s new single “More! Mi Amore” (a pun on “moreru,” slang for looking fabulous), which many argue would make the perfect opening number for the red team, with the debate spreading to comparisons against other groups vying for their Kohaku debut.

Even if they do get their first appearance, I'd guess it'll be a solo slot.
Even that garbage agency should respect the group enough not to get greedy about it.

Back in the day, Musume. could appear "with" a bunch of other groups tacked on purely because of their string of hits.

One song blowing up is barely a topic yet — negotiating a joint appearance with a bunch of other groups at this stage would be a bit embarrassing.
    36AnonymousAug 31, 2026 12:36

If they make their first appearance at the same time as Equal Love and Kyusuto, going in as just one lone act would look pretty weak
    74AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:18
    Re: #55
When they shared the stage with Equal Love and Kyanchu on EIGHT-JAM, they didn't lose out to them at all.
From the viewers' side, as long as a photogenic act with real singing chops is up there, there's no problem.
    59AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:07
The only idol groups (male or female) that appeared multiple times on both "Uta Con" and "Venue101" this year are M!LK and Juice=Juice
    73AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:17
    Re: #59
For M!LK, September 19 will be their second Venue101 appearance this year.
So the first to hit "multiple appearances on both shows" this year was Juice=Juice, as of finishing their September 5 Venue101 appearance.
    62AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:08
Juice isn't really the "cute" type of idol, so there might actually be a chance for them
    63AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:09
    Re: #62
From that angle, "Kurakura" feels like a pretty half-baked song though
    67AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:11
"MoreMi" is the perfect song to open for the red team.
Is there a more fitting song out there? No, there isn't.
    82AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:25
    Re: #67
It really comes down to this. Once you've heard "MoreMi," you genuinely can't think of anything else for this year. The energy and hype level are on a completely different tier.
As for whether the general public knows the song — Koshien, Nodo Jiman, and Bon Odori coverage should be more than enough.
    68AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:13
Kyanchu is getting cut, so Kyusuto will be in
    71AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:14
    Re: #68
    I think so too.
Kyusuto is this year's replacement for last year's Kyanchu.

There's no way Chanmina is on this year.
    Same with Humbert Humbert.
    Also the Perfume slot.

The red team took a beating last year, so I doubt they'll line up a bunch of similar groups again

Yeah, if the fanbases overlap too much, that's a problem~

If Gou-san were still around, he might've picked them himself
    105AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:36

Gou-san did a collab with a different idol group right after that, didn't he?
Equal Love, I think it was?

One slot for Nogizaka46 — in the past you could've bundled in another Sakamichi group as a package deal, but that's probably not happening this year.
The other slot is probably AKB48.
The "Kousui" slot going to Furuppa makes 3 slots [total].
And maybe 3 more for K-pop.
    108AnonymousAug 31, 2026 13:37
    Re: #104
Rather than AKB, Equal Love — whose "Tokubecchu Shite" hit — should get priority
    132AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:07
    Re: #104
AKB's out, at least this year.
Equal Love, Fruits Zipper, and Nogizaka are the locked-in slots.

    Kohmi Hirose: "Juice=Juice aren't idols, they're artists"

"Even I can't sing straight through all the parts by myself — it's genuinely difficult.
The agency told me to write it as if it were a brand-new Kohmi Hirose song and go all out."

"I could tell right away it was totally different from your typical idol group.
    They're not idols, they're artists.
They've got a great ear for music, real musical grounding, they're cute, they can dance, they've got fighting spirit, and they're sharp — they have it all. I thought, this is the next generation.
I feel like they're evolving, and Juice=Juice are wonderfully charming."

    Juice=Juice to appear on NHK's "Venue101" airing 9/5, performing "Kurakura☆Climax"
    https://kizuna.5ch.io/test/read.cgi/morningcoffee/1788015129/

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The lineup for NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen is announced every year in early December, and appearances on the network’s various programs are considered one selection factor, though not a decisive one. As pointed out in the thread itself, Morning Musume. appeared on NHK programs multiple times the same year it was left off Kohaku, so it’s worth noting as fact that heavy exposure doesn’t automatically translate into a slot. The “Are” (“that thing”) in the title is a phrase that spread in 2023 around the Hanshin Tigers’ championship win, and here it’s being used as a euphemistic code word for a Kohaku appearance. The thread split between those who see the NHK track record as a good sign and those who argue it’s no reason for optimism on its own — the latter camp’s discussion expanded into how selection criteria have shifted in recent years and predictions for the red team’s lineup. Note that this article excludes a series of replies that amounted to personal attacks on a specific YouTuber.

  • Juice=Juice’s ‘Ebamifu’ Duo to Cover Wink’s “Sabishii Nettaigyo” on Uta Con

It’s been announced that “Ebamifu” — the unit formed by Juice=Juice’s Kisaki Ebata and Mifuu Kawashima — will perform Wink’s “Sabishii Nettaigyo” (“Lonely Tropical Fish”) on tomorrow’s broadcast of NHK General’s “Uta Con.” With actor Yo Oizumi also set to sing multiple songs in the same episode, discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board buzzed both over how much airtime he’s getting and a bit of confusion about whether “Sabishii Nettaigyo” is a cover of a Western song or an original.

Setlist (artists in Japanese syllabary order)

    “Mushi Ryojo” — Shin Aoyama

“Hero (Holding Out for a Hero)” — Miki Asakura

Sounds like they might end up as backup dancers for "DOWN TOWN" too

    Re: #164
She's probably just not keeping up with the setlist log

    Background and Talking Points

“Sabishii Nettaigyo” (“Lonely Tropical Fish”) is Wink’s ninth single, released in 1990, and — unusually for a duo best known for covering Western hits — it’s actually an original song. Several posts in the thread assumed it was a Western cover, a misunderstanding that kept getting corrected and appears to stem from Wink’s overall image as a covers act. “Uta Con” regularly runs segments where newer singers cover old hits, and it’s not unusual for actors or other guest talent to perform multiple songs in one episode. This time Yo Oizumi is slated to sing several songs in the same episode, and fans were split on how they felt about him taking up so much of the runtime. Since this is based on an advance program listing, it’s worth noting that the song order or performance format could still change on the actual broadcast day.
