  • Juice=Juice’s TV Appearance Blitz — 5ch: ‘The Goro Hiromi Collab Was the Biggest Hit’

Since the start of 2026, Juice=Juice’s TV appearances have surged, prompting a thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board looking back at every show the group has appeared on from January through August. Topics range from variety shows like ‘Honoo no Challenger’ and ‘Omou Mai Mise,’ to the buzz from their CDTV appearance, the FNS Music Festival, a collaboration with veteran singer Goro Hiromi, and a slot at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026. At the same time, skeptical voices have pushed back, arguing ‘their agency is just paying to get them on air’ and ‘their Spotify listener numbers are actually dropping,’ leaving fans divided over what’s really driving the surge in exposure.

    Background and Points of Debate

Some in the thread view Juice=Juice as having recently inherited the kind of ‘face of Hello! Project’ TV exposure that Morning Musume. used to hold. Posters pointed to a timeline in which exposure surged after their March CDTV appearance, and cited specific programs such as the Goro Hiromi collaboration and their MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026 appearance, while skeptical voices countered with claims like ‘their agency is paying to get them on air’ and ‘their Spotify play counts are actually falling.’ It’s worth noting that these claims about drawing power and contract arrangements remain fan speculation — the actual casting process and streaming figures aren’t backed by any published data. Some also pointed out that a similar dynamic once played out with Morning Musume., since how TV exposure gets distributed among Hello! Project groups has long been a recurring topic among fans.

  • Angerme Ditches Its ‘Strong Woman’ Image — 5ch: ‘OCHA NORMA Already Took That Look’

A setlist performed on a bus tour by Hello! Project idol group Angerme became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello Project board. The group has pushed a “strong woman” image for the past several years, but this time’s song selection was seen as leaning toward the “cute” style reminiscent of their old Smileage days, splitting opinions in the thread over the shift in direction. Posters debated whose character suits this style and who might end up feeling out of place, with disagreements emerging over how the group’s key members are being used.

Ise — a bit subdued, but can work a calculated-cute (azatoi) angle, so the Smileage style is fine
Hashisako — was always better suited to the Smileage style
Kawana — adaptable enough for Smileage style as long as she's not the main focus
Tamenaga — adaptable enough for Smileage style as long as she's not the main focus
Matsumoto — was always better suited to the Smileage style
Hirayama — adaptable enough for Smileage style as long as she's not the main focus

    112AnonymousAug 30, 2026 20:36
Actually, ever since Kamiko (a former member known for the 'cool' image) was in the group, they've kept pushing Hirayama as the cool type, and it's never really come together — so it's probably just not a good fit.

Background and key points of this discussion

When Angerme was renamed from Smileage in 2014, the group adopted a “strong woman” concept built around “women who face adversity head-on,” and has since been known for songs and branding built on that theme. What sparked this discussion wasn’t an official announcement of a change in direction, but simply the impression left by a setlist from one particular bus tour — worth noting that the thread’s reactions are ultimately just participants’ personal impressions and speculation, nothing more. What actually divided opinion in the thread wasn’t so much whether the shift itself is good or bad, but rather a debate over “which style suits the group’s current members” — with some support for the cuter style, while others were more critical of how members associated with the traditional “strong woman” image are being used. Note that comments mocking individual members’ looks or health have been left out of this article.

  • 24 Hour Television’s Family Drama Flashback Scene — 5ch: ‘This Group Goes Viral 13 Years Later’

During Nippon TV’s ’24 Hour Television 49: My Family Story — Who Do You Think Of?’ broadcast on the night of August 29, 2026, a flashback drama scene evoking Morning Musume aired, and viewers on the Hello! Project board live-commented in real time. Since the era depicted in the drama appeared to be around 2013, fans traded period-accuracy debates like whether smartphones and LINE existed back then, and some pointed out that the number ‘1029’ shown in the scene could be read as Tsunku♂’s birthday. Scenes recreating the group’s costumes and jacket photos from that era drew a wave of nostalgic comments from longtime fans.

'24 Hour Television 49' Special Drama 'Happiness Exists'

Has it aired yet, I wonder?

    I can't watch it in real time… 🥲

Think I'll watch the recording instead (smiling)

    Background and Talking Points

The theme of 24 Hour Television 49 was ‘My Family Story — Who Do You Think Of?’, and it appears a family-episode scene evoking Morning Musume’s history was inserted into the drama. Tsunku♂ is known as the group’s creator, and his birthday is said to be October 29. In the thread, some pointed out that the number ‘1029’ shown in the scene could be linked to his birthday, but since the broadcast itself aired on August 29, the number was more likely just an in-drama date display. Opinions were also split over the period details, with some saying ‘smartphones existed by 2013’ and others suggesting ‘this scene is set in 2026’ — confusion that arose easily because the drama shifted back and forth between flashback and present-day segments, making it hard for viewers to tell which scene belonged to which era. Most of the comments were nostalgic reactions to the jacket photos and period costumes, mixed with lighthearted banter about which actors were stand-ins for which members.

  • Juice=Juice Set to Appear on NHK’s Venue101 (9/5), Will Perform ‘Kurakura☆Climax’

It’s been revealed that Juice=Juice will appear on NHK’s Venue101, airing September 5, where they’ll perform “Kurakura☆Climax.” The thread noted that Angerme is also set to appear on a separate program that same day, and users listed the group’s recent run of TV appearances — CDTV, Utacon, the Hamada Kayo Festival, and more — expressing excitement over their rising media exposure. At the same time, some worried about tickets becoming harder to get, while others speculated that a group’s ease of landing music-show slots might depend on which label it’s signed to — adding a note of concern to the group’s growing popularity.

    Background and Talking Points

As commenters in the thread noted, “Kurakura☆Climax” is an EP track, not a single’s title song. Several credited its warm reception to composer/arranger Kohmi Hirose, with some suggesting that had it been released as a single instead, it might have lost the momentum of the group’s previous release and underperformed. On the subject of TV appearances, some posters speculated that groups affiliated with King Records versus those under Sony may have different levels of access to music shows — but this remains speculation about label clout rather than a confirmed fact. Likewise, the comment declaring “Kōhaku is a lock” reflects wishful thinking, not an official announcement. Whether NHK’s “Nodo Jiman” still features a live band was also left unresolved in the thread and should be treated as unverified.

This article was compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Juice=Juice to Appear on NHK’s Venue101 Airing 9/5, Will Perform “Kurakura☆Climax”.”

  • Juice=Juice’s Nikkei Entertainment Cover: Everyone in Red — 5ch: “Red Basically Means Juice Now”

Nikkei Entertainment! announced the unveiling of Juice=Juice’s magazine cover and premium pin-up, sparking a wave of reactions on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. With Kawashima at center and the whole lineup unified in red outfits, comments poured in like “Red = Juice is locked in now” and “Perfect fit for Kohaku (Japan’s New Year’s Eve Red vs. White song contest).” Some fans looked back on how putting glasses on Hayashi and the change in Arisawa were key to the group’s breakout. Meanwhile, a more pessimistic take also surfaced — that “today’s Hello! Project is propped up by aging fans and headed for decline” — splitting opinion in the thread.

The "young fans" you're talking about are fickle — unless they make up a real majority, you can't sustain a boom. Look at Hello! Project venues these days: throw a rock and you'll hit someone who's retired from work. So thinking Hello! Project is finished once all those people are gone seems pretty reasonable to me.

    135AnonymousAug 28, 2026 12:40
    Re: #131
And Arisawa's transformation was the final piece.

    Background and Key Points

Nikkei Entertainment! is a mainstream monthly magazine published by Nikkei Business Publications, not an idol-niche outlet, so a Hello! Project group landing its cover and pin-up is treated by fans as a mark of crossover visibility rather than an in-house promo. Juice=Juice is one of the current flagship units of Hello! Project (the Tsunku-founded idol umbrella behind Morning Musume), and its “main five” — Inoue, Ebata, Kawashima, Arisawa, Hayashi — are singled out here as the group’s effective center line. The Kohaku references are to NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen, the New Year’s Eve Red vs. White singing contest that is Japan’s biggest annual TV music broadcast; associating a group’s image with “red” is shorthand for hoping they get booked onto it. Utacon and Hamada Kayosai are weekly TV music-variety programs, and bookings on them are read by fans as proof a group has mainstream TV traction beyond the idol fanbase.

The thread’s real split isn’t about the photos themselves but about what they mean for Hello! Project’s future: one camp reads Juice=Juice’s visual dominance and TV bookings as evidence the franchise is thriving, while another insists the whole enterprise is being kept alive by an aging, dwindling otaku base and will collapse once that generation ages out — a disagreement that turned combative rather than settling anything.

What outside readers will likely miss is that this pessimism isn’t really about Juice=Juice’s popularity, which nobody in the thread disputes — it’s a longstanding anxiety within the H!P fan community about shrinking audition pools and graying concert audiences, a demographic worry that predates this cover and has little to do with red outfits or magazine placements.

    Re: #83
Not allowing resale/scalping seems like a good impression to me

    Background and Key Points

Their Pom Fes has been running for years as a broader Sanrio-adjacent event around Pompompurin’s anniversary, and Juice=Juice has been a recurring live act on it — the 2026 edition is drawing enough demand that even the ordinarily free, walk-up viewing area for some stages is being converted to a paid advance-ticket lottery through Pia. That matters because Japanese idol events routinely stratify audiences into paid reserved seating, paid standing/lottery areas, and a free overflow zone for people who just want a glimpse; collapsing that last free tier into a lottery is a visible signal of demand outstripping venue capacity, not a marketing gimmick. Juice=Juice itself is a mid-tier Hello! Project group (under the “Tamaya Band”/Up-Front umbrella referenced in the thread) whose leader Danbara has now held that position for about three years, per one poster — used in the thread as shorthand for the group’s relative institutional stability compared to newer acts.

The thread’s actual disagreement wasn’t about whether Juice=Juice is popular — nobody contested that — but whether the free-area lottery slots had *already* sold out, as some posters claimed, versus the lottery having merely been announced with no application window open yet. Multiple posters directly called out others for reading past each other, and pushed back on what they framed as deliberately misleading “sold out” claims possibly spread by overzealous fans.

What outside readers will likely miss: the free area going lottery-only doesn’t necessarily reflect only Juice=Juice’s draw — the thread notes Monaki (another act on the same bill) reportedly still has unsold slots, meaning the lottery requirement is being applied venue/stage-wide rather than because every act is equally oversubscribed. Readers may also not realize Pia’s no-resale lottery system exists partly as a direct response to prior scalping of this same event’s tickets in Toyosu.

    Background and Key Points

Fuji TV NEXT is the network’s premium satellite tier, sold separately from regular Fuji TV for about ¥2,000 a month and known to general viewers mainly as Japan’s home for F1 broadcasts — which is why several posters read this new variety show as a thin excuse to push subscriptions rather than a marquee program. Juice=Juice is one of the idol groups under Hello! Project, the umbrella talent agency that has produced Morning Musume and its sister units since the late 1990s; Ruru Danbara is a current member. Sha Ran Q, by contrast, is a rock band that debuted in 1987 and is best remembered outside idol circles for its frontman Tsunku, who went on to become Hello! Project’s chief producer and songwriter — the architect behind Morning Musume, Juice=Juice, and most of the group’s catalog — before throat cancer surgery in 2014 forced him to step back from performing. Taisei is a longtime Sha Ran Q member who has kept the band’s name alive in recent years even as its lineup has thinned.

The thread’s actual disagreement wasn’t over the casting itself so much as whether it justified the ¥2,000 paywall, with the F1-channel comparison used to imply Fuji TV is monetizing a low-effort pairing. A secondary thread of doubt centered on Taisei’s current form — his appearance and whether he can still play.

What the post never states outright is the reason a Hello! Project board would care about Sha Ran Q at all: it’s Tsunku’s old band, which is the real link between these two acts rather than a random crossover.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Breaking] Fuji TV NEXT’s ‘Shiokoji Shiori Tamai × Konosuke Sakazaki’s Odaiba Folk Village NEXT’ Adds Juice=Juice’s Ruru Danbara and Sha Ran Q’s Taisei.”

And so, with that, I successfully closed the book on my life as a Hello! Project otaku at Makino Maria's graduation concert — and my reincarnation kicked off at Tsubaki Factory's first Scorching Heat show.

    Nishimura Otoki was incredible.
No exaggeration, it was like Takahashi Ai's spirit was possessing her. And if it turns out Nishimura isn't even a fan of Takahashi Ai, I apologize for saying this, but that's genuinely how it felt to me — not today's Takahashi Ai, of course. There's still technical growth needed, but at the key moments, wow.

    133AnonymousAug 27, 2026 16:00
    Re: #128
She's had her forehead out since the day she joined as a trainee.

    Background and Key Points

Hello! Project is the umbrella idol agency behind acts like Morning Musume and, since 2019, Tsubaki Factory, a seven-member group whose fandom tracks individual members’ growth through internal generational shorthand — “Icchan” here designates a particular audition/training cohort within the group, with posters distinguishing 2nd- and 3rd-gen entrants as unusually strong performers. Nishimura Otoki, nicknamed “King,” is one of those members. Japanese idol groups commonly restrict trainees’ (kenshuusei) hairstyle and makeup — no dyed hair, no exposed forehead — as part of controlling a “fresh-faced” image before debut, with such rules typically loosened at fixed milestones after joining. “Scorching Heat” (Shakunetsu) is Tsubaki Factory’s recurring concert event, and Hello! Station is the group’s official YouTube/streaming show, which lags behind live attendance by about a week — hence the “freeloaders” gag about fans who can’t make the venue.

The thread didn’t split over whether Nishimura looked different — everyone agreed on that — but over how to explain it. One camp read the timing against the “restrictions lift one year after joining” rule, only for another poster to note she’d actually been hiatus for over half that year, muddying the milestone logic. A separate strand argued over how far to take the flattery, with comparisons to veteran idols like Takahashi Ai escalating until other posters pushed back that name-dropping OGs unfairly burdens both parties.

What outside readers will likely miss: posts 128/133 quietly overturn the framing implied by the headline — Nishimura wasn’t newly permitted to show her forehead by a lifted rule, she’d worn it that way voluntarily since her very first day as a trainee.

  • Juice=Juice’s 2026 Fan Club Event Sparks Debate Over Cramped Venue

    330AnonymousAug 27, 2026 21:28
    Re: #326
Nah, the live band show is the real joke here.

    Background and Key Points

Juice=Juice’s Christmas fan-club event, “Meri Kuri × Juice × Box,” is set for December 9, 2026, at Ichikawa City Culture Hall Main Hall, a 1,758-seat venue in Chiba Prefecture (near Motoyawata Station). FC (fan club) events are lower-cost, members-only shows distinct from paid ticketed tours, and Hello! Project groups typically run one around Christmas each year alongside a separate birthday event for each member. The venue itself has history in the fandom — Tsubaki Factory, another H!P group, previously used it for a live-band show. Capacity matters because H!P FC events routinely oversell their lottery: with a roughly 1,700-seat cap split across two sessions, and citing individual members who can reportedly sell out 1,200-capacity solo birthday events, posters worried plenty of paying FC members will simply lose the lottery draw.

The thread’s actual disagreement wasn’t about whether the venue was small — nearly everyone agreed on that — but about what a better alternative would have looked like. Some proposed nearby major venues (Hachioji, Pacifico Yokohama, Omiya), others wanted something as large as 5,000 capacity, and one poster half-joked about Budodan given the group’s current momentum. There was no consensus, just competing wishlists.

What outside readers likely miss: several posts note this year’s Christmas-event announcements across H!P groups are unusually early (normally not until closer to the date), and that this is tied to merchandise pre-sales timing rather than venue strategy — pre-sale windows for goods open alongside the Christmas event announcement, so groups are rushing to announce before birthday events, not because of stage logistics. That timing pressure, not simple venue availability, is likely the real reason capacity planning looks rushed.

Seriously, as far as anyone outside is concerned, nothing after Sunshine!! exists
    9AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:02
The Love Live! series basically ended with Sunshine!!

Thank god they still made the spin-offs—Nijigasaki, Hasunosora, and 'Ikizulive' (a snide pun on 生きづらい, 'hard to live,' aimed at one of the newer sub-series)
    10AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:07
Is Monster Strike even still popular?
    11AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:08
Winter means 'Snow halation,' summer means 'Mijuku DREAMER' (famous μ's and Aqours songs), I guess
    12AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:08
Aqours isn't as widely known as μ's either, honestly
That's actually where the shift toward real-life ('3D') idol fandom started
    14AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:22
I'm a Nijigasaki believer, but even so, I'm proud they got the collab
    15AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:22
This collab only happened because Aqours cemented the road μ's paved
And what happened to the later series that hated the laid-out track and swerved off onto side roads?
    16AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:22
9th anniversary and Nijigasaki still hasn't started a single campaign
    17AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:29
People always say Aqours is 'half' of μ's
But the current active sub-series are only half of Aqours on top of that
    18AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:30
Isn't 9 not even a special number for Nijigasaki to begin with?
If the lineup hadn't grown past the original members, doing something for a 9th anniversary would make sense—but now it's 12, or 13 if you count Yuu, right?
    19AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:31
Love Live! = a franchise that's over as far as the general public's concerned
    20AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:31
Seriously it's just μ's and Aqours lol
    21AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:37
It's Aqours' ('water's') fault Nijigasaki gets treated so unfairly
Do you have any idea how many fans dropped out between μ's and 'dirty water' Aqours?
    22AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:37
One live appearance probably pays the cast about ¥300,000 or so?
And the agency takes its cut out of that, of course
    23AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:37
Different genre, but a strategy like this was never going to work for Love Live's own games
The fact that guest-starring in other people's collabs works better is proof of that
    24AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:41
So Nijigasaki's just going to end without ever landing a single mobile game collab…
    Have some shame
    25AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:42
Even Granblue Fantasy had collabed with Aqours ('water'), you know
    26AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:42
I wasn't even a Love Live fan back then, just a high schooler, but I dropped Sunshine!! after episode 3
The barely-anyone-shows-up-to-the-live storyline, then Chika's sister going 'Baka-Chika! You've got the time wrong!' followed by a slow trickle of cars finally showing up—that killed it for me
Years later I finally became a proper Love Live fan thanks to Nijigasaki's first season
μ's was amazing, but let's be honest: 'dirty water' [Aqours] took that legacy and burned through mainstream goodwill with a lousy anime
Though I'll give it credit—the tie-in with Numazu as a pilgrimage site did surpass the original series
    28AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:48
Even counting the ones that already shut down, some of Aqours ('water') did collab in AiPla and YumeSute
And with a smaller cast, they actually pulled it off well

Maybe the people going on about Nijigasaki should've taken a hard look at their own game first
Back then KLab and Bushiroad still held the rights, so jumping to other companies' games was forbidden—only Aqours (plus μ's) may have been free to move
    29AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:53
Revue Starlight's mobile game did a Sunshine!! collab too
When it comes to mobile games, seriously, only μ's and Aqours have ever landed a collab
Though if you count arcade games, there are a few outside those two
    30AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:53
I kind of wish we'd gotten a timeline like AS, where the original unit clearly isn't treated as the 'final' one
    33AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:55
There really are people out there who don't know Love Live! but still know 'the Niko-niko-nii girl' (Nico Yazawa's catchphrase)
    34AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:55
What about the actually active series…?
    36AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:56
    Re: #34
Gakuen Idolmaster's regional resale prices are crashing everywhere too
That 'popularity' is looking pretty shaky
    35AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:56
Idolmaster's current strongest is Gakuen Idolmaster, so obviously it counts
    37AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:58
Gakuen Idolmaster is still near the top of the app rankings even now, but Love Live!…
Oh wait, you don't even have an app? 😂
    38AnonymousAug 27, 2026 17:58
Nobody's even heard of a movie that only made 200-300 million yen at the box office, and a collab with it would just be a nuisance—might as well serve up some soapy water
    40AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:02
    Re: #38
So, can it actually beat Gakuen Idolmaster? 😇
    39AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:01
'The ones who don't jump ship are Idolmaster producers'

'The ones without an app are Love Live fans' 🤭
    41AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:02
Does Sunshine!! even have an app? 😅
    45AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:05
    Re: #40
Can Gakuen Idolmaster even fill the Tokyo Dome?
    49AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:10
    Re: #45
Even adding up the whole series, I'd say it's still got better odds than Love Live! did at Vantelin Dome
    50AnonymousAug 27, 2026 18:12
    Re: #49
Maybe say that after you've put out a song as widely recognized by the general public as 'Ice Cream,' at least
    77AnonymousAug 27, 2026 19:45
    Re: #50
The song just went viral—it didn't actually do much for the franchise itself

    Background and Key Points

Love Live! is Bandai Namco/Sunrise’s mixed-media idol project, built as a succession of voice-actor units rather than one continuous group: μ’s (2010–2016, the franchise that made Love Live! a mainstream hit), Aqours from the sequel anime Sunshine!! (2016–2020), and then two newer branches, Nijigasaki High School Idol Club and Hasunosora Girls’ High School (2020 onward), each with its own anime and mobile game. Monster Strike is mixi’s long-running mobile hit, famous for running large collaboration events with anime and game franchises as a marketing tool. Idolmaster, name-checked repeatedly in the thread, is a rival multimedia idol franchise whose newest branch, Gakuen Idolmaster, is the comparison point posters reach for.

The thread doesn’t really argue about the Monster Strike collab itself — everyone agrees only μ’s and Aqours got picked. What splits posters is why: some blame Nijigasaki and Hasunosora’s weaker mainstream visibility and Sunshine!!’s anime being seen as a letdown that “ended” the franchise’s broad appeal; others point to a more mundane, structural cause — post 28 notes that KLab and Bushiroad, the companies holding the newer sub-series’ game rights at the time, contractually barred them from appearing in outside companies’ games, so only μ’s and Aqours were ever free to cross over. That’s a licensing explanation, not a popularity one, and it gets buried under the pile-on. The thread then drifts entirely into an unrelated Love Live vs. Idolmaster flame war over app rankings and venue capacity.

What’s easy to miss: none of this is one continuous fandom losing steam — it’s separate casts and separate licensing deals, so a collab drought for the newer units says more about who owns the game rights than about how popular they are.
