  • “Honestly, This Popular Manga Is Boring” Ranking Ends With #1 Unrevealed — Poster Says “Thread Got Too Heated”

A thread titled “Manga readers rank the popular manga that are honestly boring” appeared on 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G board). The poster ranked from 10th down to 2nd place, tearing into major hit manga like Chainsaw Man, Slam Dunk, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dragon Ball, YuYu Hakusho, Phoenix, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and One Piece with their own harsh takes. But when it came to the crucial #1 spot, the poster only wrote “Skipping it since things are getting heated” and vanished without ever revealing it. Replies split between readers calling the critiques shallow and those who just enjoyed it as a joke thread.

    #10 — Chainsaw Man
    Way too pretentious.
Fanboys are always going on about how it's "amazing, like a movie, not just a manga" — but if that's the case, just go watch a movie instead of reading manga.
    3AnonymousSep 23, 2026 20:21
    #8 — Slam Dunk

I'll admit the art is great, but the pacing stays flat the whole way through and never really builds momentum.

The early chapters can't decide between a delinquent story and a basketball story, it makes no sense that Anzai is treated like some legendary coach, and that scene where the long-haired character has an emotional breakdown — treated as an iconic moment for some reason — left readers completely lost.

And the ending, where they lose partway through the national tournament, is really just a cancellation ending dressed up as a finale.

    5AnonymousSep 23, 2026 20:21
    #7 — Jujutsu Kaisen

A manga that does nothing but explain its rules forever.

Idiots read this and go "whoaaa, so deep and complex!" but it's really just cluttered.

And even after you painstakingly decode the clumsy explanations, the author keeps retroactively bolting on new rules, so it all feels like wasted effort.

    #5 — YuYu Hakusho

A manga that distills everything bad about Jump series into one.
    That "live-in-the-moment energy" (lol)

It's just the same old Jump trick of stronger and stronger enemies showing up one after another, making the previous ones feel pointless.

And nobody seems to question why, right when the new arc kicks off, it suddenly turns into a rushed digest-style tournament where some random middle-aged guy who just showed up wins — that bizarre ending somehow never gets criticized.

In the end it was a manga propped up by fujoshi who only cared about the hot male characters and ignored the story entirely.

It's a mystery why the author gets hyped up so much online.

    12AnonymousSep 23, 2026 20:22
#4 — Phoenix (Hi no Tori)

Fans: "A story that alternates between the future and the past — amazing!!!"
    ↑
    So what? (lol)

If the story actually connected and came together as a whole, fine, but all it really does is force in a bunch of famous-sounding birds — it's just a loosely tied anthology of short stories.

    14AnonymousSep 23, 2026 20:22
    #3 — JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

There's barely any story at all.

Enemy shows up → beat them → enemy shows up → beat them.

    That's literally the entire loop.
What even is this, a board game?
And honestly, why don't the enemies ever just gang up and jump the main character's party all at once instead of coming at them one by one?

Are you sure you're not thinking of Dragon Ball?
    15AnonymousSep 23, 2026 20:22
    #2 — One Piece

A manga where every line and every plot beat is way too predictable.
Every development and exchange exists purely as a setup to deliver a "Don!" sound-effect punchline panel, so the buildup drags on forever.

Reading this manga feels like watching an endless loop of a Dacho Club comedy skit (a Japanese comedy trio famous for a repetitive running gag).

I mean, taste is taste, but "I don't get why this sells" is a pretty shallow criticism too.

    Background and Talking Points

Threads formatted as “the XX ranking has finally been revealed” are a recurring gimmick on 5ch, and the Live/Jikkyo boards in particular have seen similar posts pop up again and again over the years. True to form, replies here started questioning it early on, with comments like “where are all these people taking a recurring joke thread seriously coming from?” and “it’s all AI” — a sense quickly spread that this shouldn’t be read as genuine criticism. The poster themselves eventually caved under the backlash, admitting “getting ripped apart is rough on the mental,” and ultimately vanished without ever revealing the all-important #1 spot. Since opinions on these titles come down heavily to personal taste, what really drove the thread’s momentum wasn’t the ranking itself, but whether readers could recognize the "joke-thread" tone for what it was.

※This article is an excerpt and summary based on the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “Manga readers rank the popular manga that are honestly boring — the results are finally in wwwwwwwwwwwwwww.”

  • “Nanoha and Fate Barely Appear” — Fans Split Over New Nanoha Series

The latest installment of the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, “EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance,” is currently airing, and 5ch’s live-watching threads have been flooded with mixed reactions. Many viewers voiced confusion that series mainstays like the Yagami family, Fate, and Hayate barely appear on screen, with the story instead centering on new characters. Viewers also questioned scenes late in the episode where the new characters casually engage in aerial combat despite their power levels never being clearly established, as well as the poem-styled flourishes attached to the subtitles. Some of the franchise’s longtime fans said it felt like “this isn’t Nanoha,” leaving opinions sharply divided.

Well, given the time left I figured it'd be tough, but not even a single line about it?

Maybe that world was zero-gravity or something.

Given the setting, they can create as many worlds as they want, so it would've been fine to just do a one-episode-per-world format where Nanoha goes wild in a different world each time…

Honestly, can anyone actually explain what made this anime popular in the first place?
    It's not the story
It's not the characters (Innocent bombed hard, so that's not it)
It's not the slice-of-life dialogue (Innocent and ViVid both bombed, so not that either)
It's not the robo-anime-style gimmicks (Force got cancelled, Reflection/Detonation bombed)
It's not the art (has been consistently mediocre)
It's not the lolicon appeal (Reflection/Detonation and EXCEEDS both bombed, so it's not about the characters' ages either)
Voice actor popularity (this seems most plausible, but once that's past its peak there's nothing you can do about it)

    Background and Key Points

The Lyrical Nanoha franchise has run for over 20 years, from its first season in 2004 through StrikerS in 2007 and ViVid in 2015, and EXCEEDS is its latest installment. The “985なの” at the end of the thread title is just the conventional running number for the 5ch live-watching thread — easy to mistake for an episode count, but it isn’t the broadcast episode number or the series’ total episode count. Opinions in the thread split because prioritizing the development of new characters meant drastically reduced screen time for veteran characters like Nanoha and Fate; longtime fans tend to judge it harshly as “this isn’t Nanoha,” while others say that, taken as a standalone anime, it holds up reasonably well — making it a title whose reception varies sharply depending on the viewer’s perspective.

  • Mushoku Tensei’s Original ‘Diary’ Special Release Draws Reaction — 5ch: ‘That Was Such a Bad Move by the Man-God’

Following the broadcast of episode 13, “Diary,” of Mushoku Tensei Season 3, the official website specially released the “Diary” section from Volume 15 of the original light novel. Fans who read it on the thread debated original-story episodes not depicted in the anime, as well as the Man-God’s true intentions in trying to manipulate Rudeus. In particular, based on the author’s comment that the story’s timeline works as an “overwrite” system rather than a “branching” one, opinions were divided on how Old Deus’s decision affected the main timeline. There was also discussion about the episode ordering — specifically the intent behind showing last week’s Old Deus episode first.

I think it was mentioned on the author's X (Twitter) or something that this world runs on an "overwrite" system, not a "branching" one

[Old Deus] got way too cocky after becoming convinced he'd escaped a life-threatening crisis for the first time
Also, that was around when Aisha came back to him, and it was a period when Rudeus was recovering, having resolved to at least cherish Zanoba and Julie, who kept looking out for him and helped make the Sylphie doll together
So it's also about turning that (recovering) Rudeus into a vengeful demon and wrecking his life

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Mushoku Tensei is an isekai reincarnation story centered on the life of protagonist Rudeus, but this episode 13 has a complex structure involving the perspective of “Old Deus,” who comes from a future separate from the main story. The “overwrite-style timeline” setting mentioned on the thread isn’t something the author has stated in official materials — it’s sourced from a post on the author’s X account, so it’s worth noting this isn’t confirmed by a primary source. Also, despite the thread title’s “no spoilers” warning, it’s a tradition on this live-discussion board for fans who’ve read the original novel to actively share forward-looking speculation — a defining feature of this series’ threads — so viewers who haven’t read the source material should browse with caution. Old Deus and present-day Rudeus are portrayed as distinct characters within the story, and without assuming that distinction, the thread’s discussion is hard to follow.

  • “Kids Raised on Manga and Video Games Never Turn Out Right” — Old-School Claim Reignited by Reading Comprehension Data

The old-fashioned claim that “kids raised on video games and manga never turn out to be decent adults” has resurfaced on 5channel, fueled by data pointing to declining reading comprehension. The thread cited a figure showing only a 38% correct-answer rate on a reading comprehension test for junior high schoolers, splitting commenters between those who saw it as “proof that kids today have gone downhill” and those who argued that “you can’t draw that conclusion without comparable data from the past.” The discussion also brought up the strong vocabulary of the generation born before World War II, as well as the story of Gundam director Yoshiyuki Tomino lamenting that his own work ended up creating a lot of war-loving fans — and from there it grew into a broader debate about the relationship between hobbies and education.

Japanese is originally a high-context language, where meaning is grasped from context.
As the brain adapted to that complexity, it also refined a culture of putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
But at some point, one particular phrase started taking over.
That phrase is "mendokusai" ("what a hassle").
The instant the busy brain feels the strain, it goes "ugh, too much hassle" and gives up on reading,
growing more impatient by the day — and so here we are, watching short videos at 2x speed.
    84AnonymousSep 22, 2026 23:10
    Re: #80
Apparently, as the TV shows and music that used to be popular across generations, and the culture shared by everyone regardless of age, disappear thanks to internet culture and growing poverty, Japanese itself is shifting from a high-context language toward a low-context one.
    81AnonymousSep 22, 2026 23:08
In the end, the real question is 'does this hobby have any element that helps with some kind of learning?'
Manga, novels, and games clearly have the edge, since they involve a lot of exposure to writing skill, the ability to read subtle human emotions, kanji, and so on.
Videos, on the other hand, cover such a huge range of genres it's hard to generalize — but watching makeup tutorials or food videos probably doesn't broaden your knowledge all that much.
Also, how someone splits their time between studying and hobbies probably comes down mostly to individual disposition no matter the era — so even a kid glued to manga, games, and videos today would probably have just spent all their time drawing, singing, or chasing girls if they'd been born in the past instead.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The image cited in the thread showing a “38% correct-answer rate” doesn’t come with a clearly stated source, and even within the thread nobody could pin down exactly which survey or which question it’s referring to. It’s a figure that gets brought up often in discussions of declining reading comprehension, but without data on how children in the past scored on the very same question, the conclusion that “reading comprehension used to be better” doesn’t actually follow — a point that was raised within the thread itself, making the difficulty of simple generational comparisons one of the central sticking points. It’s also worth noting that ideas like “game brain” or “Japanese is a high-context language, and its erosion is driving declining reading comprehension” are closer to folk theories than to any broadly agreed-upon academic consensus. The claim that “today’s youth have gone downhill” is itself a stock criticism that resurfaces with every generational shift.

  • New Love Live! Unit’s Live Ends With No Anime or App Announcement — 5ch Asks “What Is Management Even Doing?”

A new unit in the Love Live! franchise held a live concert, but the lack of any anime or app announcement at the event became a hot topic on 5ch. Commenters pointed out that past units set different precedents — Liella got its anime announcement roughly a year after the unit itself was revealed, while μ’s went two and a half years without one — leaving the thread split on whether fans should just wait it out. Some argued the (reportedly self-set) goal of “100,000 subscribers” is being treated as a precondition, while others questioned whether the low-cost, cast-driven live format itself reflects a profit-first mindset from management.

IkiZu is about to flip the script with this live and blow up like Gakumas to become the new top dog, though?

    Background and Key Points

The Love Live! franchise has expanded with a new unit centered on Hasunosora Jogakuin, following “μ’s,” “Aqours (nicknamed ‘Hoshi’/Star),” “Nijigasaki (nicknamed ‘Niji’/Rainbow),” and “Liella! (Liella).” The timing of anime and app adaptations has never been uniform across units — μ’s went roughly two and a half years without an anime after its launch, while Liella had its anime announced within about a year — so the gap between units can be substantial. That means this latest “no announcement” isn’t unprecedented in itself. One thing readers may easily conflate: the thread’s theory that “hitting 100,000 subscribers is a precondition” was never laid out as an official roadmap — it’s a fan interpretation based on past remarks. The latter half of the thread also drifted into rivalry between fans of different units, which is a separate issue from the core anime/app development story; this article has been compiled with exchanges that risk identifying individuals left out.

    Background and Key Points

Threads debating the “most tear-jerking scene ever” are a recurring staple on 5ch, and the titles that come up vary widely depending on each poster’s generation. This time the lineup spanned everything from 1975’s Dog of Flanders to the 2010s’ Violet Evergarden. The friction in the thread came from several posts that named a specific scene and then flatly declared “if you don’t cry at this, you just lack life experience” — a stance that drew notable pushback around both K-On! and CLANNAD. There was also a correction regarding the Slam Dunk scene cited as iconic: a poster pointed out that the moment in question was actually never animated and only appears in the original manga, highlighting how the “famous scenes” people remember don’t always match what was actually adapted.

  • Hiroaki Hirata Pitches the Dubbed Version, But 5ch Still Swears by Subtitles

Voice actor Hiroaki Hirata appeared at a screening event for the dubbed version of director Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Odyssey,” pushing hard for the dub. The film, based on Homer’s epic and starring Matt Damon, sparked a flood of reactions on 5ch — some argued “the actor’s real voice is better,” others countered that “subtitles eat up all your focus just trying to read them.” While many felt comedies and sitcoms suit dubbing, plenty of others said original-language audio is better for performances that hinge on acting skill, splitting opinion down the middle between subtitle and dub camps.

Voice actor Hiroaki Hirata (63) attended a screening event in Tokyo on the 21st celebrating the smash-hit dubbed version of the American film “The Odyssey.”

The latest film from director Christopher Nolan, known for works like “Oppenheimer,” stars American actor Matt Damon. Based on the ancient Greek poet Homer’s epic of the same name, it depicts the hero Odysseus’s decade-long journey home after the Trojan War.

Subtitle purists spend over 80% of their attention just reading the text — they've got no bandwidth left to actually take in the real voice, let alone the acting.
The normal move is to watch the dub first to get the dialogue and plot, then watch the original version.
Besides, Hirata, with the nuance you bring to your own dub performances, that's plenty for casual viewers.

    Re: #110
Well, subtitles are the mainstream choice in practice, so it can't be helped.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The dub-versus-subtitles debate has long been a recurring topic in how Japanese audiences watch foreign films and dramas, and this time the spark was a voice actor himself publicly advocating for the dub in a public setting. On the thread, the dominant reasoning wasn’t a simple either-or stance but a genre-based split — “comedies suit dubbing,” “serious performances come through better in the original language.” Works like Jackie Chan’s films or Columbo are cases where the dubbed version actually became more beloved in Japan than the original ever was abroad, which can be seen as a product of Japan’s uniquely developed dubbing culture. At the same time, the spread of streaming services — which let viewers freely switch between subtitles and dubbing — has fueled more comments along the lines of “I watch both” or “I pick depending on the situation.” There was also some discussion of whether AI-generated voices might eventually replace voice actors’ work, though it’s worth noting this was purely viewer speculation about the future, not something Hirata himself actually said.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Voice actor Hiroaki Hirata pushes hard for the Japanese dub, yet says “I’m actually a subtitles guy myself” — “Obviously the original voice is better”.”

  • “I Thought They Were a Pro Voice Actor”—5ch Keeps Naming Celebrities Who Nailed Anime Dubbing

After magmix ran an article spotlighting four anime films — including “Shiranui” — where actors who aren’t primarily voice actors turned in “amazing” performances, users on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board chimed in with “there are more,” rattling off title after title where celebrity casting had earned high marks. Masato Sakai in Yukikaze, Yu Aoi in Tekkonkinkreet, Takako Matsu in Brave Story, and Tomoya Nagase in Sword of the Stranger were named as prime examples of being “unambiguously good,” though some pointed to cases like Princess Knight where the casting backfired, and others argued that what separates “good” from “bad” has more to do with recording and directing technique than the individual actor’s skill.

    2026.09.21

Casting “non-professional voice actors” in anime or dubbed foreign films often draws harsh criticism, but there are no shortage of cases where the performance is flawless, or where the actor delivers a great fit for the work’s tone and character. Let’s look back at four anime films where a non-professional voice actor was, honestly, wonderful.

His voice type seems well-suited for it too.

    Background and Key Points

Casting actors who aren’t primarily voice actors in anime tends to draw criticism as “stunt casting for buzz,” but in practice quite a few stage-trained actors turn out to be skilled at line delivery. Figures like Toru Emori and Shuichi Ikeda came up through stage or child-acting backgrounds close to voice work to begin with, so the simple equation “celebrity casting = bad performance” doesn’t really hold. Some in the thread argued that the reason certain casting choices “didn’t blow up” is simply that they never got enough attention to blow up in the first place — a wry observation that lower-grossing films tend to escape scrutiny. Others pointed out that what separates a good performance from a bad one isn’t just the actor’s individual skill, but also recording methods, mic technique, and the sound director’s craft — worth keeping in mind that it’s not simply a matter of “professional voice actor or not.”

Until now he had signed fans’ merchandise whenever approached, but word spread and requests from fans kept increasing. Getting involved is nothing but a liability

Never heard of this guy, but why do you all even want celebrity autographs that badly?
    24AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:04
Once you're famous, even your autograph turns into money
Wouldn't be surprised if he starts doing paid signing events

Baseball players really are people of character

Hideki Matsui, even while hospitalized, was asked to sign dozens of shikishi boards and dutifully signed every one

Sadaharu Oh replied to every single fan letter he received during his playing days

Never heard of this guy, who even is he (´・ω・`)
    27AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:05
No idea who he is, but I figured this was some kind of countermeasure against resale scalpers
    28AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:05
    He's really good-looking
    No wonder he's popular
Honestly the voice acting world has better looks than Johnny's idols these days

Reselling a signed item is a no-go, but posting a photo of it on social media should be fine, right?

    Re: #30
If it's something he signed at an official event that's probably fine, but items signed off the clock shouldn't be posted
People will start thinking 'oh, he'll sign even when he's off duty,' and it'll turn into a hassle
    31AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:07
Female voice-actor fangirls can be just as unhinged as Johnny's fangirls, so that's gotta be scary
    32AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:07
He's probably seen autographs he signed for 'I'm a fan, please sign this' requests turning up for sale on flea-market apps
    33AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:09
It's an off-the-clock courtesy, so people should just count themselves lucky to get a signature at all
But these days if he seems curt or turns someone down, there's no telling what'll get posted on social media like 'someone else got one but I didn't,' so he has no choice but to officially refuse everyone
    34AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:13
    Yeah, exactly
He shouldn't have to do signings on his own personal time
    36AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:13
He's under zero obligation to sign anything outside of work
He's been more than accommodating up to now
    41AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:16
Even working a customer-service job out in the countryside, getting recognized at the supermarket on your day off is exhausting — I totally get the feeling
    42AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:16
Seeing an autograph you signed on your own personal time get resold would kill anyone's motivation
    51AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:29
There are just too many cringe otaku out there.
Then again, he probably knows he can send them out as his own 'funnels' (fans who attack critics on his behalf), so he gets a bit full of himself too — I guess it's a give-and-take relationship.
Sane people should stay away from this.
    65AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:54

Background and Key Points of This Story

What was actually announced this time concerns informal autograph requests made when he’s approached at places like train stations while out and about — not at official venues such as event sites — and doesn’t mean he’s ending organized signing events altogether. Cases of voice actors’ and actors’ autographs being resold on flea-market apps have never stopped, and in recent years it has repeatedly become an issue that the goodwill behind a signed autograph ends up feeding someone else’s resale profit. Opinions on the thread split between those who saw ending the practice as “obviously just self-protection” and those who criticized scaling back before he’s even that widely known as him “getting a big head” — and views were similarly divided over how popular he really is and how his signature roles are regarded. Because these informal encounters happen without any involvement from his talent agency, there’s also a risk that a fan who gets turned away vents frustration on social media, sparking unexpected trouble.

  • Detective Pretty Cure: Every Side Character Rallies to Prop Up Ruruka — 5ch: ‘Even Isekai Web Novels Have Less Favoritism Than This’

The 32nd installment of 5ch’s “anti-thread” for Toei Animation’s latest Pretty Cure entry, “Detective Pretty Cure!,” has gone up — commonly called the “Unchi Thread” (“poop thread,” a play on “anti” used to dodge search filters). This time the poop nickname came from a typo in the thread title, and it kicked off a wave of complaints that the surrounding characters keep being conveniently maneuvered just to hype up the lead, Ruruka. Posters also discussed a theory that the thread count looks inflated because trolls are flooding it with spam, disagreed over why the currently-running movie is doing well at the box office, and expressed surprise at the crossover with the fighting game “Street Fighter 6.”

Re: #1, thanks for the thread
Having the characters around her spout lines that just happen to favor Ruruka doesn't actually make Ruruka more appealing
The staff probably think they're doting on her, but it's not doing the character any favors — it feels like watching a bad parent in action
They're setting things up so it looks like Ruruka's getting an unfair boost ("putting her in platform shoes," i.e. rigged advantages) and then just gushing over her without a second thought — that's just the writers' self-satisfaction. Even non-diehard fans of the Arcana side have said this feels uncomfortable
    11AnonymousSep 21, 2026 07:55
Thanks for the thread, bumping it to keep it alive (anyone still here?)
The title got a chuckle out of me, guess it really was just a typo
    12AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:02
Saying 'it couldn't be helped' while pinning the blame on your accomplice is less of an apology and more of doubling down
    14AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:06
    Shiruku:
    'You probably didn't steal it'
'It was that guy who took it (Gouemon)'

    The Curator:
'That one was a fake anyway'
'Thanks to you, I found the courage to display the real one'

    Re: #12
If Ruruka's letting Gouemon take the blame too, she should stick up for him
Staying silent is basically agreeing with 'Yeah, it's all Gouemon's fault!' lol
    13AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:06
Well, it IS crap (unchi) as a piece of fiction, so I guess the thread title checks out
    15AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:13
Come to think of it, this is actually the first time Kurea and Shiruku meet face to face,
but there's zero reaction from her
Kurea already knew who Shiruku was,
and this is set in an era when TV was still king of media,
so meeting an actress in person should be a bigger deal
Well, Kurea's just a 'funnel' for Ruru-trash (Gundam slang for a drone that acts purely on its master's behalf — i.e. she only exists to hype up Ruruka), so I guess that explains it
    16AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:24
They even got the item stolen from the Curator wrong — it's obvious the staff isn't even trying anymore, this show is paper-thin
    17AnonymousSep 21, 2026 08:52
More like a weak excuse than doubling down
If you're gonna lean on an excuse that flimsy, you should've just not done it in the first place
    18AnonymousSep 21, 2026 09:53
Every single character is turning into set dressing just to prop up Ruruka
If they'd at least used this nearly month-long stretch of hand-holding to touch on the mystery surrounding the two leads and set up a hook for the next arc, it would've been more tolerable, but instead it's endless Ruruka, Ruruka, Ruruka
Even a Mary Sue-tier web novel has less favoritism than this
    19AnonymousSep 21, 2026 10:25
How long has it been since the actual protagonist got bumped out of her own protagonist spot?
She even gets shafted with her transformation sequence airing dead last
    25AnonymousSep 21, 2026 11:42
    Re: #19
She was still acting like a proper protagonist right up until Éclair's true identity was revealed

Things started going downhill from that reveal
After that, her detective skills basically got nerfed
and she turned into a yes-man just going 'Amazing~!' at everyone
    20AnonymousSep 21, 2026 10:33
It says 32, but isn't it really more like 21?
Feels like someone's fudging the count to inflate the numbers
    21AnonymousSep 21, 2026 10:59
Yeah, threads 20 through 31 all got buried under spam flooding, so that's right
    22AnonymousSep 21, 2026 11:09
The thread title fits way too perfectly lol
    23AnonymousSep 21, 2026 11:31
    Thanks for the thread

So according to the devoted fans, it's the antis panicking over the movie's success who are self-flooding threads to pad the numbers?
Give me a break (there's wordplay here: the Japanese phrase for 'are you out of your mind' has 'Ruruka' hidden inside it)
    24AnonymousSep 21, 2026 11:34
Then again, couldn't it just as easily be the fans doing the trolling?

That said, if the antis start fudging the count too, they're just as much garbage (bottom line: both the fans and antis can drop dead this year)
    26AnonymousSep 21, 2026 11:50
Even if you strip out the spam-flooded threads and reset the numbering, nobody's gonna care either way
The main thread's nothing but blind devotees who approve of everything, that's exactly why we split off into this one
    27AnonymousSep 21, 2026 12:00
Back in the day, Pretty Cure ○nti threads (censored for search-evasion) used to have joke-contest-style titles
I remember seeing 'Oh No, Pretty Cure 5, Boo Go Go' (a pun on the real series title 'Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!')
    28AnonymousSep 21, 2026 12:04
Protagonist Ruruka gets gushed over the whole episode, then right at the end they toss in a bit-part character, Anmiku, to deliver some big summary line and paper over it all — that's hilarious, stop it
I get that doing this makes things easy, since people go 'see, she's still totally the protagonist!' and hype her up for it
    30AnonymousSep 21, 2026 12:42
    Re: #28
Meanwhile Anmiku just keeps getting shipped off to crossover events
    29AnonymousSep 21, 2026 12:34
I think the movie 'doing well' is just people who needed to see it before the typhoon hits moving up their plans, nothing more
    31AnonymousSep 21, 2026 12:48
A crossover with a genuinely dominant game like Street Fighter 6? That's seriously impressive for 'Tanpuri' (fan shorthand for Detective Pretty Cure)
    32AnonymousSep 21, 2026 13:30
I actually play Street Fighter 6, so hearing about this crossover gives me mixed feelings.

    Background and Key Points

“Detective Pretty Cure!” is Toei Animation’s latest entry in the Pretty Cure series, a spin-off-style installment built around a detective theme. On 5ch’s anime board, it’s customary to call “anti-threads” (critical discussion threads) “poop threads” as a way of dodging search filters, and this time a typo in the thread title happened to lock in that nickname for good. The main criticism centers on a scripting complaint: that the characters around the lead, Ruruka, keep being conveniently arranged just to make her stand out, with some comparing it to the kind of protagonist favoritism seen in amateur web novels. Meanwhile, there’s an analysis suggesting the thread numbering looks inflated because of spam flooding by trolls, alongside a view from fans that this flooding is actually self-inflicted sabotage by the anti crowd. Opinions were also split on why the movie is performing well at the box office — whether it reflects genuine quality or just moviegoers rescheduling ahead of an approaching typhoon — with no clear consensus reached. The crossover with “Street Fighter 6” also drew surprised reactions, though it’s worth noting this represents individual posters’ opinions rather than a consensus on the work as a whole.
