  • New Oishinbo Anime Adaptation Sparks Worry: “Can It Survive Reiwa-Era Compliance Standards?”

The announcement of a new anime adaptation of the popular cooking manga Oishinbo has sparked a wave of reactions on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board. The original anime was a long-running hit that scored high ratings, and its strong recent view counts on YouTube and subscription streaming services are believed to have helped push this new adaptation forward. On the thread, attention centered on just how faithfully the new series can reproduce the source material under Reiwa-era compliance standards — especially episodes criticizing food additives or ones heavy with the author’s own opinions — while plenty of commenters also expressed nostalgia for the original anime and the live-action film.

    I was surprised too
I wonder if they'll do the Tonkatsu Old Man episode again too

Airing right after Jan is gonna be tough ("Jan" = fan nickname for another well-known cooking anime)
    6AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:06
The old anime was just too good, so people are gonna end up saying "might as well watch that instead"
    7AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:07
I love the episode where they put sushi through a hospital CT scanner just to expose a sushi chef they hate for having zero skill

    16AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:10
If they censor out all the sensitive material to fit Reiwa standards, it's gonna get absolutely torn apart online — I wonder if they'll be okay
    19AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:11
Are there any great arcs in the manga that never got animated?
They'll probably do the wedding and grandchild episodes though
    20AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:11
I heard the part the old anime covered was the best part of the manga, so I wonder which part they'll adapt this time
    24AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:12
It's not just the parts that would be considered problematic today — there's also all that stuff that reads like manipulative spin, where the author basically has characters voice his own personal opinions. How are they gonna handle that?
    26AnonymousSep 19, 2026 14:12
At this rate it's not Oishinbo, it's "Oi, Shimbo" (get it — "new"-bo)! LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Re: #47
    Exactly this.

TV standards used to be lax back then, which is how they got away with animating Tetsu Kariya's Oishinbo, but if they remake it now it'll just end up a bland, sanitized, boring anime out of concern for political correctness.

    Re: #95
They really nailed the acting as an estranged parent and child…

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Oishinbo is a cooking manga that began serialization in 1983, and its 1988 TV anime adaptation was a hit that scored high ratings at the time. In recent years it has been racking up strong view counts on YouTube and streaming platforms, and this momentum is seen as the backdrop for the new anime adaptation. Opinions in the thread were divided over how the production will handle episodes considered hard to reproduce by Reiwa-era standards — such as those featuring food-additive exposés or ones where the author’s personal opinions come through strongly via the characters. Since the series has previously made headlines over some of its depictions, many commenters worried it might end up “sanitized and inoffensive,” while just as many expressed nostalgia for the original anime and the live-action film (starring Koichi Sato and Rentaro Mikuni), with overall praise for the source material remaining high. As of this writing, there’s no confirmed information on how much of the new series will be freshly produced versus based on the old adaptation.

  • Juice=Juice tapped for anime theme song — 5ch: “Same as how nobody knows what anime ‘Racing into the Night’ is from”

The official account for the TV anime “From the Scarred Saint, With Vengeance” announced that Hello! Project’s Juice=Juice has been tapped to perform the Season 2 theme song. Aoi Yamazaki wrote the lyrics, RUSH EYE and Anna Kusakawa composed the music, and RUSH EYE handled the arrangement. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, posters swapped jokes about the source anime’s low profile and poor reviews and voiced shock that it was even getting a second season — but the thread quickly veered away from the anime itself into gags about how the composer credit “RUSH EYE” sounds suspiciously close to comedian/TV personality SHOCK EYE.

    Re: #1
If only it were a Tokyo Revengers theme song, this would be perfect

    Background and Key Points

RUSH EYE is a music producer and lyricist, a completely different person from comedian/TV personality SHOCK EYE of the group Kishidan — but the similar-sounding name has repeatedly been fodder for mix-up jokes on 5ch, and this thread was no exception. Much of the discussion veered into classic 5ch tangents, including jabs at the “vague, wishy-washy” Wikipedia-style bio of RUSH EYE. Meanwhile, on the actual subject — the anime itself — posters were harsh about the source material’s low profile and the visual quality, and the comment that “the theme song just needs to become famous on its own” neatly captures how these tie-up projects can produce a hit song even when hardly anyone knows or cares about the anime it’s attached to. Some posters noted that landing an anime theme song had long been one of Juice=Juice’s goals, suggesting that for Hello! Project fans, excitement over the song itself is treated as separate from however the tie-up anime is rated. It was also noted that both the lyricist and composers are known for writing extensively for boy groups, which some read as a hint at where the sound might be headed next.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “TV Anime “From the Scarred Saint, With Vengeance” — Theme Song Juice=Juice “The Magnificent Revenger””.

  • Manga artist Masakazu Katsura to release an art book of nothing but ‘butts’ — 5ch: ‘Reality has lost’

Masakazu Katsura, the manga artist known for works like “Video Girl Ai” and “I”s,” has announced the release of an art book themed entirely around women’s “butts,” titled “Positive Sensitive: Masakazu Katsura Butt Art Collection,” on December 10. The collection features a total of 120 butts, and pre-orders have already opened. It’s said to be a response to years of him posting butt illustrations on social media. On 5ch, opinions were split — some reminisced fondly about iconic scenes from his classic works and praised his draftsmanship, while others brought up past tracing controversies involving other artists and revived suspicions of tracing.

Manga artist Masakazu Katsura, known for works like “Video Girl Ai,” “I”s,” and “Wingman,” has announced he will release “Positive Sensitive: Masakazu Katsura Butt Art Collection,” a collection focused entirely on “butts,” on December 10. Pre-orders are already open, and a surprising blurb accompanied the announcement.

Katsura regularly posts illustrations on X, and has recently caused a stir by continuously posting illustrations of beautiful women’s butts. Amid this, he wrote: “So, after years of drawing and stockpiling butt illustrations, they’re finally becoming an art book. A total of 120 butts. Please check it out!! Pre-orders are open right now.”

    Background and Discussion Points

Masakazu Katsura is a manga artist well known for his depictions of women’s underwear and butts in works like “Wingman,” “Video Girl Ai,” and “I”s,” and this art book compiles that accumulated body of work. In the thread, many comments praised his skill in drawing “butts” not as crude jokes but as something built through situation and psychological depiction, while other comments raised unfounded suspicions of tracing, drawing on past incidents where other manga artists faced tracing controversies. It should be noted that nothing in the source material for this article confirms that Katsura himself or this art book actually involved tracing — that remains purely speculation from some users.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “Manga artist Masakazu Katsura’s shocking “butt” art book announced — Enako, Mariya Ise, Moe Iori… “Many works based on real-life models”” thread.

  • Detective Precure Movie’s Opening Day: Hope and Anxiety Over Turnout — 5ch: “Front-Loaded Series Means ¥2 Billion Is a Stretch”

The movie Star Detective Precure! hit theaters on its opening day, and 5ch’s anime live-discussion thread filled up with reports of fans scrambling to grab theater merch and the “Hochi Shimbun Precure Special Edition” newspaper, which doubled as a pamphlet. At the same time, worried voices weighed in on the box office prospects — “turnout from kids feels weak even on day one,” “this is a front-loaded series, so ¥2 billion is going to be tough” — mixing with posts surprised at how many people showed up on a weekday. Debates over which characters are most popular and speculation about where the franchise goes next also cropped up, making for a thread that blended opening-day excitement with cool-headed analysis.

I'd like fewer episodes built around a full mystery-solving segment, and a shorter transformation sequence.

Also, if the Precures don't carry their detective side into the action after transforming, it's not really a "Great Detective Precure" in the true sense.
I want them to either transform before the deduction segment starts, or work deduction into the battle segment itself. In the first case, once they've identified the culprit they'd immediately drive off or defeat the enemy — basically merging the detective segment with the Precure segment. In the second case, it'd be things like reasoning out the enemy's weak points mid-fight.
That's how you'd get the detective elements and the battle elements to coexist.

As it stands, I don't think the mystery-solving segment and the Precure segment are balanced well enough.

    Re: #118
Cure Pochitan was great, wasn't it?

    Background and Talking Points

Poster #45’s claim of “sales down by half” is worth taking with a grain of salt — it’s an anonymous guess, not backed by any real box office data. Poster #86’s take that “this is a front-loaded series, so ¥2 billion is a stretch” reflects the fact that Precure movies typically have their whole year’s performance decided by opening-week turnout, and poster #93’s “just sell the merch with random inserts” response builds on that same logic. The hope for a sequel voiced by poster #103 draws on the precedent of Maho Girls Precure! getting a second season, though whether this film wraps up the story for good this year hasn’t been officially announced. As for weekday attendance, posts expressing surprise at how many kids skipped school to attend crossed paths with pushback aimed at the poster doing the observing — so the real picture of turnout doesn’t go beyond anecdotal, on-the-ground impressions.

  • New Crayon Shin-chan Episode Scripted by Dow 90000’s Sho Hasumi — Shinnosuke Barely Appears

An episode of TV Asahi’s “Crayon Shin-chan,” airing September 19, has become a hot topic: “It’s an Afternoon with the Nohara Couple,” the first episode scripted by Sho Hasumi, who leads the theater unit Dow 90000. Made as a collaboration with the variety show “Buzzman TV,” the episode barely features protagonist Shinnosuke, instead taking the bold approach of depicting a single continuous-cut conversation piece between his parents, Misae and Hiroshi. On 5channel, reactions were mixed: some compared it to a similar experiment Koki Mitani did for Fuji TV’s “Sazae-san,” others argued that without Shinnosuke it’s essentially a spin-off, and opinions split over whether Hasumi’s directorial sensibility suits the show.

An episode of the hit anime "Crayon Shin-chan" titled "It's an Afternoon with the Nohara Couple," scripted by Sho Hasumi — who leads the theatrical comedy unit Dow 90000 — will air on TV Asahi at 4:30 PM on September 19. Made as a tie-in with the TV Asahi variety show "Buzzman TV," it marks Hasumi's first time writing a script for "Crayon Shin-chan." Protagonist Shinnosuke Nohara barely appears; instead the episode centers on a conversation piece between his mother Misae and father Hiroshi. At the anime team's suggestion, they went with the bold approach of shooting the Nohara couple's everyday life — and a new side of them — in a single continuous cut.

    Background and Points of Debate

Episodes of “Crayon Shin-chan” told from a perspective other than Shinnosuke’s have appeared before, in both the manga and the anime, and it isn’t unheard of for a notable outside creator to write an episode of a long-running series. Commenters in the thread pointed to precedents — Koki Mitani’s similar experiment for a Fuji TV “Sazae-san” special, and Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s past work writing a script for “GeGeGe no Kitaro” — confirming that bringing in an outside creator isn’t unprecedented here. Where opinion split was over whether an episode where the protagonist barely appears counts as a “de facto spin-off,” and whether Hasumi’s directorial style actually suits Crayon Shin-chan’s brand of comedy — questions that, ahead of the broadcast, remain speculative on both sides. In compiling this article, a link to an unrelated incident report that had gotten mixed into the thread was excluded.

  • Face-Hiding Call App “POPOPO” Shuts Down After Just Six Months — 5ch Asks: “Isn’t That Just… a Phone Call?”

“POPOPO,” a 3D avatar calling service fully funded by Nobuo Kawakami and featuring Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki Nishimura (Hiroyuki) as board members, has shut down just six months after its March launch. The service was marketed on the appeal of letting users talk without showing their face or appearance on camera, but on 5ch, commenters kept raising the basic question of “isn’t that just a phone call?” and pointed out that despite running ads at Shibuya and Shinjuku stations, the service never really gained name recognition. The gap between the star-studded management lineup and the service’s short life also became a talking point.

POPOPO, fully funded by Nobuo Kawakami, ended its “POPOPO” communication service on September 17. That puts its run at roughly six months after its March launch.

POPOPO was a smartphone service that let users make calls through 3D avatars. One of its selling points was that users could talk without showing their own face or appearance on camera.

Besides Kawakami, the operating company’s board of directors included Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki Nishimura (Hiroyuki).

Just like phone calls or remote meetings, it eats up your time in real time
Going back to review it later is a pain since it's all audio
Even the celebrities get stuck behind a mask, so it turns into basically a radio show

(;゜Д゜) The day has finally come where you can talk to Shinji's dad…!? (referencing Gendo Ikari from Evangelion, directed by Anno)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

POPOPO was a domestically developed service built around letting users make calls through 3D avatars without showing their face or appearance. It launched in March 2026, with ads at Shibuya and Shinjuku stations featuring Kuruma Takahira of comedy duo Reiwa Roman. Even so, it shut down after just six months, and one thing that stood out in the thread was how often commenters raised the basic question of what a “call with the camera off” actually offers over existing phone calls, remote meetings, or voice-based social apps. At the same time, the gap between the star-studded management team — Nobuo Kawakami, Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki — and the service’s actual name recognition and adoption also became a point of discussion. Posts came both from people who remembered seeing the ads and from people who only learned the service existed when its shutdown was reported, suggesting that despite the scale of the marketing push, it may never have truly caught on.

  • Takasei Nakao’s First Voice-Acting Paycheck Was 200 Yen — His Only Bragging Right: Beating ‘Genius’ Koichi Yamadera for the Baikinman Role

Voice actor Takasei Nakao appeared on ABEMA’s “Seiyuu to Yoasobi – Friday” (lit. “Voice Actors’ Night Hangout”) for the first time in about eight years, and revealed that his very first paycheck for voice acting work was just 200 yen — and that his only real bragging right is beating Koichi Yamadera for the role of Baikinman. Reacting to the story, posters on 5channel’s Geinou/Sports Express+ board lined up to compare Nakao’s signature characters, like Frieza and Baikinman, against Yamadera’s dubbing work and knack for juggling countless roles. Opinions in the thread split over who has “more iconic roles” and who leaves “the bigger impression,” turning into a back-and-forth where each actor’s strengths got their due.

    Thu 9/17, 6:45 PM

Episode #16 of “Seiyuu to Yoasobi – Friday” (hosted by Tomokazu Seki and Kikunosuke Toya, airing Fridays 10:00-11:30 PM on ABEMA’s Anime LIVE channel) aired on September 11. Takasei Nakao made a guest appearance for the first time in roughly eight years, joining a segment looking back on his acting career along with a “three-generation gap talk.”

Toya, who reportedly requested Nakao as a guest, was meeting him face-to-face for the first time that day. He shared that he grew up watching “Dragon Ball” as a kid, and that his niece is currently obsessed with “Soreike! Anpanman,” saying “Thank you so much, really” with obvious emotion.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Seiyuu to Yoasobi” is an ABEMA talk show hosted by Tomokazu Seki and Kikunosuke Toya, and this appearance marked Takasei Nakao’s first time on the show in roughly eight years. The story of beating Koichi Yamadera in the Baikinman audition is one Nakao has told before, but the specific figure of a 200-yen starting paycheck drew fresh attention this time around. In the thread, opinions split over whose roles left the bigger impression — Nakao’s or Yamadera’s — surfacing a bit of a generational divide: Yamadera is known for his versatility across dubbing and variety-show work, while Nakao tends to get discussed in terms of intense villain roles like Frieza and Baikinman. Worth noting too: 200 yen back then would be worth something like a few thousand yen today, so it’s best not to assume from the raw number alone that the pay was absurdly low.

  • US-Based Voice Actress Suzuko Mimori Takes 4 Days to Get Meds After Switching Insurance — 5ch: “Paying Out of Pocket Sounds Terrifying”

Voice actress Suzuko Mimori revealed on Instagram that it took her four days to get a prescription filled while living in the United States. She hadn’t realized that switching insurance plans also meant switching pharmacies, which complicated the process. On 5ch (Japan’s largest anonymous forum, successor to the old “2channel”), the reaction wasn’t so much concern over the finances of Mimori — who’s married to pro wrestler Kazuchika Okada — but rather surprise at the US health insurance system itself, with many pointing out that the cost could have been avoided with the right coverage. Commenters also shared their own stories of paying steep medical bills, fueling wider interest in how different healthcare is in the US compared to Japan.

    September 17, 2026, 12:34 PM

Voice actress Suzuko Mimori, who lives in the US, updated her Instagram by the 17th, writing about her experience with the local healthcare system.

Using Instagram’s Story feature, Mimori described the struggle of getting medication after a doctor’s visit: “Four days after getting the prescription, I finally got my meds…!” She went on, “I recently switched insurance, so I also had to switch pharmacies, but I had no idea… I just assumed you could pick up medicine anywhere. If my English were better, I could’ve handled that transition more smoothly.” She added, “Guess I just have to push through!! The pharmacy staff helped me so much!! So grateful.”

Re: #63 If you've got insurance, you're fine. If you don't… good luck (lit. "it's drugs" — a dark joke that you're left to fend for yourself).

    Background and discussion points

Unlike Japan’s universal national health insurance system, US health insurance typically runs on a “network” model, where each plan restricts which pharmacies and hospitals you can use — switching insurance plans often means switching pharmacies too. That’s the system Mimori ran into, and the language barrier compounded the delay in getting her medication. On the thread, some argued the cost was “nothing” given her husband — pro wrestler Kazuchika Okada’s — earnings, while others pointed out that even wealthy people can lose their savings to medical bills if uninsured or facing serious illness; overall, interest leaned more toward fascination with the system itself than concern over the couple’s finances. Note that the specific contract figures cited for Okada in the thread are not from an official announcement by the couple and remain unverified claims from anonymous posters.

  • Ex-A.B.C-Z’s Ikuto Kawai and voice actress Moe Toyota dating for 4.5 years — 5ch reacts: “Might as well disband” (lol)

FRIDAY has reported, citing sightings from mid-September, that former A.B.C-Z member Ikuto Kawai (38) and voice actress Moe Toyota (31) have been dating for four and a half years. When asked about marriage, Toyota reportedly answered in a small voice, “Not yet…”. On 5ch, the first wave of comments questioned who Toyota even was (“Who’s Moe Toyota?”), highlighting a gap between the general reaction and that of voice-actor fans who recognized her roles. Some posts also brought up how rarely Kawai himself has appeared on TV lately.

He had reportedly told those around him, “I have a girlfriend.”

When a FRIDAY reporter asked Toyota about marriage, she answered quietly, “Not yet…”

It was just before 7 a.m. in mid-September. From an apartment building in a central Tokyo neighborhood where lush greenery meets old-town charm, a man radiating overwhelming charisma emerged.

Is Moe Kirimura the more famous one?

    Background and talking points

The Johnny’s agency Kawai belonged to was restructured into STARTO ENTERTAINMENT in 2023 after the sexual abuse scandal involving the agency’s late founder came to light, and TV has generally found agency-related topics awkward to touch since then. Kawai himself used to do an impression of the agency’s late founder as part of his comedy routine, which is part of the backstory behind comments noting his reduced TV exposure. Moe Toyota, meanwhile, is a voice actress known for roles like Sapphire Kawashima in Sound! Euphonium, and she also does idol-style activities. On the thread, reactions split sharply between people who had no idea who Toyota was and anime fans who recognized her roles. Neither the article nor the thread reveals how the relationship began, and it’s worth noting that FRIDAY’s report is based on sightings near Kawai’s apartment, with no official comment reported from either party.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “[SCOOP!] Former A.B.C-Z’s Ikuto Kawai (38) & voice actress Moe Toyota (31) caught in “4.5-year serious relationship” [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Voice Actress Megumi Ogata Says ‘I Was the Original Yu-Gi-Oh!’ — Unease Over Coverage Sparks Divided Reactions on 5ch

Voice actress Megumi Ogata revealed her complicated feelings on X (formerly Twitter) on September 16th regarding certain media coverage of “Yu-Gi-Oh!”. After a special animation released on the 14th to commemorate creator Kazuki Takahashi’s original art exhibition was introduced as the “original” Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, Ogata posted: “I thought I was supposed to be the ‘original’… I wonder how many people even remember that. I guess that’s not how people see it now. It’s lonely.” The post sparked a wave of reactions on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board — some sympathized, saying “anyone would react the same way if their own career got erased,” while others were harsher, saying things like “just do your best on the new recording” or “it would’ve been classier not to bring it up,” leaving opinions split.

It's like saying the original Doraemon was voiced by Nobuyo Ōyama.

Wasn't that Kosei Tomita as Bakabon's Papa?
Also, if we're counting Eijirō Higashino as the original Mito Kōmon, I guess Brother Theater counts too then.
    10AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:22
Well yeah, if you say 'original Yu-Gi-Oh!,' Megumi Ogata is who comes to mind for me too.
Though the 'kotatsu writer' (slang for lazy journalists who churn out articles without leaving home) who slapped on a dumb phrase like 'Internet shocked' honestly might not have even known.
    11AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:23
She doesn't need to reprise the role in anything new, but she'd like to be acknowledged as the original.
    12AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:23
Written by someone who didn't bother doing their homework, that's why.

When you think about it that way, it's sad.
She lost the job over adult circumstances (industry politics), after all.
And it was the lead role, too.
    14AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:24
The narration for Neko Jiman (Cat's Pride) doesn't really suit her.
    15AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:24
I only ever read Yu-Gi-Oh! in Jump, so I have no idea who the voice actors are.
All I know is that the Johnny's (talent agency) guy was good and got a lot of praise.
    21AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:25
I mean, for the anniversary stuff — movies, Duel Opera — they went with Shunsuke Kazama, right?
I don't even know about the Toei version.
    22AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:25
Are they trying to cut ties with her by treating her as 'difficult to deal with'?
The recast is a shame, but… I guess it can't be helped.
    24AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:27
'Difficult'? A part of her career just got erased by a major media article — anyone would react this way.
The people calling her 'difficult' would totally lose it if the same thing happened to them.
    25AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:28
She was pretty positive when she lost the Sailor Uranus role, though.
    28AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:29
She didn't have to make a whole thing out of it…
    31AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:31
Isn't it Yugi, Judai, and Yusei who counts as the 'original'? The male version is the one that got famous for 'It's my turn!' too.
    34AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:33
Japanese anime has this unique culture of casting women to voice male characters.
Goku, Luffy, Naruto — all women.

    Re: #34
And countries that obsess over the voice actor's real-life gender, age, or skin color, regardless of whether it actually fits the character, aren't exactly great either.
Like when a boy actor's voice breaks after casting and you end up with a raspy old-man voice coming out of a character who still looks like a kid, or people saying 'don't cast a white actor for a Black character.'
    60AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:47
    Re: #34
In the '90s there were a lot of female voice actors for those roles.
From around the 2000s, boy characters of an age where their voice would actually break started properly getting male voice actors.
    37AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:35
Lost the role to an amateur?
    69AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:54
    Re: #37
Well, 'amateur' or not, that was still the height of Johnny's (talent agency) influence.
    43AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:37
Yu-Gi-Oh! was doing Fukuzo Moguro-type stuff (a manga trickster famous for psychological mind games) at the start, right?

Early Yugi was basically Sharaku from The Three-Eyed One (Mitsume ga Tooru).

It started out as putting petty crooks in their place through games, but somewhere along the way it just became a card game.
    54AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:42
She probably can't do Kurama's voice anymore.
If it ever gets remade, the whole cast will be recast.
    65AnonymousSep 17, 2026 15:50
    Re: #54
She was actually doing Kurama again recently in a shampoo ad.
But if there's ever another remake, I'd want a male voice actor for the role.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

There are two animated adaptations of “Yu-Gi-Oh!”: the 1998 Toei Animation version, in which Ogata voiced the protagonist, and the Tokyo TV version that aired from 2000 onward starring Shunsuke Kazama, known for the line “It’s my turn!” Because the latter achieved overwhelming name recognition both in Japan and abroad, many fans and media outlets tend to picture the Kazama version when they think of the “original,” and the first animated adaptation that Ogata starred in has rarely been discussed. This post is thought to stem from that gap in perception. On the thread, opinions were split between defenders saying it’s “a natural reaction from someone whose own achievements were ignored” and critics saying “it would have been classier not to mention it” or “reeks of an old-timer’s grumbling,” bringing to the surface differing values around how a career should be acknowledged and how voice actors should be shown respect.
