  • Kohmi Hirose: ‘Juice=Juice Are Top Idols, Yet Their Greetings Are Impeccable — Amazing’

Singer-songwriter Kohmi Hirose remarked in a YouTube interview-style video that Hello! Project’s Juice=Juice “do such proper, thorough greetings despite being top idols — it’s amazing,” a comment that sparked discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. The thread saw sarcasm (“greetings are the only thing worth praising”) clash with defenders (“getting the basics right is admirable”), and the talk expanded into comparisons of other groups’ airport behavior.

What kind of theory is that

Background and Key Points of This Topic

This story started when Kohmi Hirose, in a YouTube interview-style video, praised Juice=Juice for how properly they greet people. Hello! Project is said to have long emphasized greeting and manner training for its trainees, and the thread repeatedly echoed that view, as seen in comments 21 and 38 (“the agency’s training is solid”). Opinions split, however, between a sarcastic camp (comments 4, 11, 22) arguing that “if greetings are the compliment, there must be nothing else to praise,” and a defensive camp (comments 6, 9, 29) countering that “nailing the basics is exactly what deserves credit” — a recurring point of friction among Hello! Project fans. Several comments also drew comparisons to other groups’ airport behavior, such as Equal Love (=LOVE) and Philosophy no Dance, but these were all secondhand, eyewitness-level accounts rather than officially verified facts, which readers should keep in mind. The thread’s information doesn’t specify which video or program Hirose’s comment actually came from, and this article only covers what can be confirmed within that scope.

  • Switch2 “Out of Ammo” Debate: 5ch Erupts Over Nintendo vs. PS5 Sales Data

A thread appeared on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board pointing out how thin Switch2’s upcoming lineup looks. The thread starter posted “there’s no ammo left,” prompting a wave of replies citing cumulative sales figures for major Nintendo titles like Mario Kart World and Animal Crossing: New Horizons and countering with “they’re not even trying yet.” Meanwhile, PS5 fans fired back with single-month sales figures for titles like Call of Duty and Resident Evil Requiem, and both sides traded their own sets of numbers to argue for superiority. The thread also drifted into GTA6’s release timing and frame-rate specs, but with Nintendo and PlayStation fans talking past each other, the debate never converged.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

“No ammo left” is a stock phrase on the Hardware/Industry board for a platform that’s run out of upcoming titles to point to, and here it sparked a back-and-forth with PS5 fans over how thin Switch2’s future lineup looks. The numbers cited mix cumulative sales figures for Nintendo’s major franchises with single-month sales figures for PS5-exclusive and ported titles, and since the source data covers different time frames and metrics (“single month” versus “lifetime total”), a straight comparison is misleading. It’s also worth noting that claims about GTA6’s delay and its resolution/frame-rate specs aren’t based on any official Nintendo or Sony announcement at this point — they’re just hearsay circulating in the thread. The split came down to whether posters believed Nintendo is “holding titles in reserve” or read the weak current sales as a sign of an upcoming slowdown, and neither side offered conclusive evidence either way.

  • Kazutoyo Koyabu Leaving Yoshimoto Kogyo — 5ch Reacts: ‘Partner Contracts Never Last’

On 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+), a report from Owarai Natalie sparked discussion after revealing that comedian Kazutoyo Koyabu will leave Yoshimoto Kogyo at the end of 2026 and shift to a partnership contract starting next January. Thread posters explained that under this arrangement, Yoshimoto only handles fielding outside work offers without actively pitching him for jobs, and Koyabu himself would cover travel and lodging costs for location shoots and appearances. Reactions were split: some pointed to past comedians who signed similar deals only to eventually leave the agency altogether, arguing “this kind of contract never lasts,” while others speculated it signals a shift toward focusing on acting work.

Basically, if a job offer comes in from outside, Yoshimoto still acts as the contact point, but they won't actively pitch or promote him for work. Put simply — a big chunk of his fee used to get skimmed by Yoshimoto, but from now on he only pays them a contact-handling fee, while travel and lodging costs for location shoots, dramas, and the like come out of his own pocket.

Funny how people won't trust old media but swallow web news whole

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Thread posters explained that under Yoshimoto Kogyo’s partnership contract system, Yoshimoto only serves as a point of contact for outside job offers without actively pitching or promoting the talent, and travel and lodging costs are shouldered by the performer themselves. While some comedians who moved to this type of contract ended up leaving the agency entirely, others — like Tomochika and Tamura Kenji — have stayed on it for years, so a contract change alone doesn’t necessarily mean “going independent” or “falling out” with the agency. The news report alone doesn’t fully convey how the system actually works in practice, which makes it easy to misread. Koyabu is also a member of Shinkigeki NEXT, and how this contract change will affect his future involvement with the troupe isn’t yet clear from the current reporting.

  • Guy brings medaka fish home, sparks debate over his sketchy tub setup — 5ch: “I believe in senpai Anacharis’s power”

On Nyuusoku VIP (5ch’s news/VIP board), a user who’d just brought home medaka (Japanese rice fish) and shrimp posted photos of his setup, prompting a flood of replies questioning the water quality and risk of oxygen deprivation. Experienced fishkeepers weighed in one after another — on keeping fish in a plastic tub, whether aeration was actually necessary, and how Anacharis (a water plant) supplies oxygen. At one point a poster flatly declared “they’ll all be dead within a week,” leading to a small bet with the OP over whether the fish would survive. By the end of the thread the fish in question was reported to be fading, leaving readers hanging on its fate.

Anacharis releases oxygen through photosynthesis during the day, but at night it actually consumes oxygen.
The oxygen your fish need mostly comes in through the water surface, so as long as you don't seal off the top, you should be fine.

    Re: #37
Wait, really? It gives off oxygen under fluorescent or LED light too, right? It sucks in oxygen at night? That's kind of scary.

In still water, the amount of oxygen that actually dissolves is pretty minimal.
Same goes for the oxygen from photosynthesis under a room light.

I think I'm gonna step away from this thread for a bit.
This is rough on me mentally, ngl.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Acclimating medaka to new water is a standard procedure to prevent fish from dying of shock due to sudden changes in temperature and water quality, and whether this step had actually been done became the starting point of the debate in this thread. The main point of contention was whether aeration is necessary for indoor fishkeeping (as a measure against oxygen deprivation) — since the amount of surface agitation from wind differs between an outdoor water-lily pot and an indoor tub, opinions on necessity tend to split. The thread largely converged on the rule of thumb that it’s unnecessary outdoors but necessary indoors. It’s also easy to misunderstand that water plants like Anacharis produce oxygen through photosynthesis during the day but actually consume it at night, so simply adding a water plant doesn’t guarantee everything will be fine. The thread ended with the medaka in question still in a weakened state and no further updates, so whether it survived remains unconfirmed.

  • China’s Qwen AI Now Used 5x More Than Google’s — Reactions Split

A Nikkei report saying that the AI team at a major Japanese manufacturer uses not a domestic model but Chinese Alibaba Group’s large language model “Qwen” for their work became a hot topic on 5ch’s Business News+ board. The company is even an investor in “Noetra,” the domestic AI development consortium launched in July, yet a team member reportedly admitted candidly, “Qwen is good enough. Joining the domestic effort was a decision made by management.” The thread saw clashing views: some praised Qwen’s performance and cost-effectiveness, while others voiced concern about relying on Chinese AI, pointing to its handling of politically sensitive topics like the Tiananmen Square incident.

    * Deeply embedding a model from a country with a different ideology and institutions means taking on uncontrollable vulnerabilities in data governance and information transparency.
    * If sudden regulatory crackdowns or rising geopolitical tension abruptly cut off the supply chain or API access, a system with no fallback would suffer a fatal outage.
    * It's hard to externally verify intentional bias buried in training data or algorithms, leaving structural uncertainty when handing over decisions for social infrastructure or core operations to it.
    * Riding today's overwhelming cost efficiency while hollowing out domestic development capacity risks losing mid- to long-term tech sovereignty and independent innovation ability altogether.

    29AnonymousSep 2, 2026 12:46
Outside China, it answers that Tiananmen was wrong.

Cloud services inside China are Chinese internet services,
    operated under Chinese law.

The people framing this purely as an "AI" or "LLM" issue are the ones who don't get it.

The same Chinese-made LLM is no different whether it's on AWS, Azure, Ollama, or Hugging Face versus anywhere else.

Meaning running it locally is no different either.
It's the same as you personally using Google's cloud yourself.
Running it yourself in the cloud makes no difference.

So if you ran it yourself via a Chinese cloud service,
having Chinese internet law apply there isn't some special exception either.

With this kind of AI system, won't it ultimately end up built so that some culture-ministry type can just say "shut that down" or "intercept it" whenever they want — and if it were a human doing the building, they'd get "disappeared," right?
I wonder what happens to the AI system itself in that case.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Qwen is a family of LLMs developed by Alibaba, and a major feature setting it apart from Google’s commercial cloud AI is that its weights are open, letting companies run it on their own servers. That’s appealing to firms wanting to keep costs down while customizing operations in-house — but what caught the thread’s attention was that a company investing in the July-launched domestic AI consortium “Noetra” itself said “Qwen is good enough,” which read as a pointed question about the reality behind domestic AI development. The debate split into two camps: (1) pragmatists arguing that if a model runs locally, the developer’s nationality doesn’t matter, and (2) a more cautious camp citing response patterns on topics like the Tiananmen Square incident as grounds for concern about Chinese AI governance. One point readers can easily conflate is the difference between “Chinese-made AI” and “cloud services based in China” — even with the same Qwen, how far regulations reach depends on where and by whom it’s run, a distinction some replies gestured at but never fully untangled.

According to the report, Shingo Kurumada has filed a damages suit against former accounting staff at the Tokyo District Court over the alleged embezzlement, and the actual details of how it happened and the exact amounts will be contested in the upcoming trial. It’s worth noting that the posts in the thread describing the embezzlement scheme are secondhand accounts, not facts established in court. What actually drove the discussion wasn’t the embezzlement itself so much as astonishment that Saint Seiya is still earning money today, with posters repeatedly bringing up the scale of income from licensed goods like figures and from pachinko adaptations. Meanwhile, opinions were split on just how historically influential the series was as a Jump title, with comparisons to Ring ni Kakero, and no single consensus was reached.

About ¥1.8 billion of the diverted funds has reportedly already been repaid. On 5channel, the thread’s reaction focused less on the details of the case and more on sheer shock at the scale of the sum — conversation spread to the size of Saint Seiya’s licensing revenue, its pachinko/slot-machine business, and the income gap between manga artists and novelists.

revealing that he has filed suit at the Tokyo District Court against former directors of three companies where he serves as representative director, seeking a combined roughly ¥2.8 billion in damages over funds allegedly diverted without authorization.

The total amount diverted reportedly comes to about ¥4.6 billion, and he argues that the roughly ¥2.8 billion remaining after subtracting the approximately ¥1.8 billion already repaid constitutes the damages.

Then guys like Toriyama or Oda must be beyond imagination.

    Background and Talking Points

It’s worth noting that this lawsuit is a civil claim for damages — it is not a criminal case, and no criminal charges or conviction have been established. Masami Kurumada serves as representative director of three companies that hold the rights to Saint Seiya, Ring ni Kakero, and other titles, and he alleges that funds from those companies were diverted by former directors. Of the roughly ¥4.6 billion total allegedly diverted, ¥1.8 billion has already been repaid, and the suit seeks damages for the remaining ¥2.8 billion. On the thread, the sheer size of the sum shifted the conversation toward the earning power of the Saint Seiya IP itself — its pachinko/slot-machine business and licensing revenue — before branching into the income gap between manga artists and novelists, along with nostalgic reminiscing about Kurumada’s works. The specific details of who moved the money, by what method, and how the diversion was even possible remain unclear from current reporting, and will be contested in the upcoming trial.

  • GoPro to Sell 90% Stake — 5ch Reacts: ‘Simply Lost on Performance’

Reuters reports that U.S.-based GoPro is moving to sell a 90% stake to optics maker Starman for $285 million. GoPro pioneered the action camera market, but the company has faced a prolonged stock slump and recurring buyout rumors in recent years. On 5ch, the thread split between two explanations for the sale: one blaming Chinese manufacturers for copying GoPro’s products, and another arguing that GoPro itself neglected performance improvements while doling out new features piecemeal. Posters also discussed GoPro’s performance gap versus DJI and Insta360, and noted that image sensors across the industry still largely rely on Sony.

GoPro's heat dissipation has never been great — people talk about thermal throttling all the time. Maybe the engineers with the implementation know-how left without passing the knowledge on to the next generation — happens at every company. When foreign firms do those out-of-nowhere layoffs, that's exactly what results. Even if you're letting people go, you need to guarantee some stability for them and make sure they pass their skills on to the new hires first.

Back in the day, when we asked about getting Sony gear for office/business use, they'd politely turn us down with something like 'we're consumer-focused, so we can't really recommend it.' Sounds like they've pivoted to business use in recent years. Wonder if they've redesigned things like heat dissipation — the biggest pain point for business use — specifically for that market.

Background and key points of this discussion

GoPro went public in 2014 as a pioneer of the action camera market, but has since struggled with a prolonged stock slump and repeated buyout speculation. This time, Reuters reported that the company is moving to sell a 90% stake to optics maker Starman for $285 million. Opinions in the thread split over why GoPro lost ground: some blamed straightforward copying by Chinese manufacturers, while others argued GoPro brought it on itself by focusing on incremental feature additions instead of real performance improvements. What both camps agreed on was that rivals like DJI and Insta360 have pulled ahead on performance, and that image sensors — even in competing products — still largely come from Sony. The discussion also touched on Sony’s own shift from consumer cameras toward a B2B focus, framed as part of a broader pattern of Japanese manufacturers moving from finished products to component supply.

  • Sakamichi Idol Ends Up With Six Fingers in Shonen Magazine Gravure Shoot After Photoshop Fail

In a gravure photo of a Sakamichi Series member published in Shonen Magazine, fans spotted a spot where a likely retouching error left the subject with six fingers, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hello! The prevailing theory is that the line between the fingers got erased while smoothing out the hand’s outline, and posters brought up how Juice=Juice’s official MV had similarly drawn criticism in the past for unnatural AI-style editing. Beyond questioning the retouching technology itself, the thread also noted that different groups seem to get called out with different intensity for the same kind of mistake, veering into a discussion of the temperature differences across fan cultures.

This might just be a blurring effect
You can faintly make out an outline to the right of the pinky, right?
That's actually the right hand's index finger (the thumb is folded inward)

    Background and Key Points

The appearance of an extra finger tends to happen when, during retouching meant to smooth out body contours, or in AI-assisted editing, the line between two fingers gets erased along with everything else. Because the distortion resembles the kind of glitch typical of generative AI, some in the thread guessed it was “probably AI editing,” but from the photo alone there’s no way to tell whether this was an ordinary retouching slip-up or the result of an AI tool. It’s also worth noting that while the Sakamichi Series and Hello! Project belong to the same broader idol culture, they’re managed by different agencies and have different styles of media exposure, and there’s a contingent of fans on each side who react sharply to news about the other group. The thread’s observation that “the intensity of the reaction depends on the group” reflects that kind of temperature difference between fandoms — it isn’t evidence that this incident points to some systemic issue at either agency.

  • Katsushika Ward to Build Tokyo’s First J1 Stadium in the 23 Wards — Draft Finalized in ‘Captain Tsubasa’s Hometown’

Tokyo’s Katsushika Ward is pressing ahead with plans for a dedicated soccer stadium, and a committee meeting on September 1 finalized a draft outline of what the facility “should look like.” The planned site is about a 10-minute walk from JR Shin-Koiwa Station, and it’s expected to become the first J1-standard stadium in Tokyo’s 23 wards. On 5ch, users discussed why Tokyo has never had a dedicated soccer stadium until now, the link to “Captain Tsubasa” since Katsushika is manga artist Yoichi Takahashi’s hometown, and debate over the stadium’s size and how often it would actually get used.

A draft outline of what the facility “should look like” was finalized at a September 1 committee meeting for the “dedicated football stadium construction plan” that Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, is pursuing as part of local revitalization efforts. The planned site is about a 10-minute walk from JR Shin-Koiwa Station.

A soccer stadium getting built is a good thing

    Feels like it's about time.
Baseball's stranglehold is the reason Tokyo could never get a soccer stadium built until now.

Even after blocking Akita, they're still losing nonstop anyway (lol)

They'll probably name it Katsushika Tora-san Stadium (after the beloved 'Tora-san' film character, also from the area)

Why doesn't Akita just build a stadium?

Glad it's not stuck way out at the back of Mizumoto Park — that place is a pain to reach by train.

The pitch is probably going to look like it stretches out to the horizon or something.
    22AnonymousSep 2, 2026 12:53
They should honestly make it all-weather — it suits the site and orientation well, and there's space to slide the turf outside too.
    38AnonymousSep 2, 2026 13:01
    Re: #22
Just under half the eastern side of the lot is for the stadium, and just over half the western side is for the park, so there's no room to slide the turf out.
    24AnonymousSep 2, 2026 12:54
Tokyo's got the money, so even with land issues things move fast — Akita's got its hands full just with the baseball stadium 🤣

There really are foreign tourists who travel to Yotsugi (Yoichi Takahashi's birthplace). There's basically nothing to see besides the station and a statue, so I was impressed people bother.

    Re: #38
Don't need a park. If it's not made all-weather, the stadium ends up sitting diagonally on the square lot, which is inefficient.

Yoichi Takahashi, manga artist — born in Yotsugi, Katsushika Ward, Tokyo. Graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Minamikatsushika High School — that's where 'Nankatsu' [Tsubasa's team name] comes from.

Games at the National Stadium are always packed, so why only a 15,000 capacity? Just build a proper 50,000-seat stadium already.

    Re: #59
The team isn't even in J3 yet, so a stadium that big would be pointless lol. Sure, if companies and residents across the 23 wards chipped in to make it the world's best team, fine — but the team's currently so weak it's questionable.
    67AnonymousSep 2, 2026 13:16
It's a dedicated stadium that can't be used for anything but soccer, right? The real question is how often it'll actually get used.

With this location but such a small venue, it'll run out of capacity instantly — most people who want to watch a game won't even be able to get in.

Background and key points of this topic

If Katsushika Ward gets a J1-standard dedicated soccer stadium, it will be the first in Tokyo’s 23 wards. Until now, Tokyo-based J.League clubs have mostly used general-purpose facilities like the National Stadium or Ajinomoto Stadium (in Chofu, outside the 23 wards) as their home grounds, and the lack of a dedicated stadium has long been seen as a persistent problem for soccer in the city. In the thread, users noted that the project is framed as an international exchange hub tied to “Captain Tsubasa,” since original creator Yoichi Takahashi is from Yotsugi in Katsushika Ward — though some pointed out the inconsistency, since the manga’s setting is said to be modeled on Shizuoka. Because the planned site is roughly square, discussion also centered on practical issues: whether to make the roof fully weatherproof, how to arrange the pitch, and mixed reactions to the planned capacity of only around 15,000.
