  • Ruriko Kojima Ditches Blonde for Brown Hair — Fans Split Between ‘Black Hair Forever’ and ‘Team Blonde’

On the 2nd, talent Ruriko Kojima opened an Instagram post with, “So, do you actually prefer black hair?”, revealing a makeover from her previous blonde to brown hair. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, opinions split between “black hair forever” and “Team Blonde,” while other posts dug up nostalgic photos from her Sofmap days (the electronics retail chain where she worked as a promo model early in her career), argued that blonde never suited her, and brought up her departure from her major talent agency and past dating-scandal coverage. What started as a simple makeover announcement turned into a thread reminiscing about her entire career.

Her eyebrows are jet black, so the blonde just looks off.

But Chihaya from Chihayafuru (a manga/anime about competitive karuta) has bleached-blonde hair, and she's a serious honor student. If even she went blonde, that shows blonde has become totally normalized in Japan. Black hair barely even shows up in Chihayafuru — it's basically a Stone Age custom at this point.

Was there ever really a moment she looked like she'd take over? At Kojiruri's peak she was still miles behind Becky, and even after Becky's scummy-affair downfall, when Kojima tried to muscle into that spot, it didn't work out.

For a while Horipro (her agency) seemed to be chasing after successful manga artists (like Nekomu) — maybe she was riding that same trend.
Over at Nekomu's place, the husband posts on social media about work and hobbies, and frequently posts about cooking meals or teasing his wife — and it actually seems to be going surprisingly well for them.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Ruriko Kojima went independent from major talent agency Horipro following a relationship and career hiatus that were made public around 2018, and the “affair” and “agency departure” repeatedly referenced in the thread stem from that past reporting — though the detailed facts of what actually happened at the time are not part of this article’s source material. The thread mainly split along two lines: a simple matter of taste over whether blonde or black/brown hair suits her better, and the rights and wrongs of her image surrounding that past relationship and agency departure. On the latter point, readers should note that much of the commentary is speculation rather than confirmed fact. Some posts also dragged in unrelated private matters involving other celebrities, such as references to “former SPEED member Uehara,” but these were excluded from the article as poorly substantiated assumptions. Readers are advised to separate the main topic — her hairstyle change — from the speculation-laden commentary rooted in past media coverage.

  • SoftBank Pitcher Taito Murakami Suspected of Breaking Into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home and Assault — 5ch: ‘Same Old Story for a First-Round Pick’

Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks pitcher Taito Murakami, the team’s first-round pick from last fall’s draft, is suspected of using a spare key to let himself into his ex-girlfriend’s home without permission and assaulting a male friend of hers who was there, according to a weekly magazine report. The woman reportedly filed a criminal complaint with the Fukuoka Prefectural Police’s Chuo Station after the two broke up in July of this year. On 5ch, the thread revived talk of the team’s history of losing multiple first-round picks to scandals over the years, with users questioning the club’s player-management practices and drawing comparisons to the assault case involving Hanshin Tigers pitcher Ibara, which broke around the same time.

    1AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:52
"Taito broke into my home without permission and assaulted both me and my friend."
That's the shocking account from Ms. A, Murakami's ex-girlfriend — a woman in her twenties working in Fukuoka Prefecture. Murakami and Ms. A started dating last June, and things were going well; she even visited his parents' home at the end of the year. But arguments gradually became constant, and the two split up on July 3 of this year.
"We fought all the time, but when it really ended I felt this deep sense of loss. I wanted someone to talk to, so I reached out to a few friends," Ms. A says.
    2AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:52
The incident happened on July 4. While Ms. A was at home confiding in a male friend she'd known since high school, Murakami suddenly let himself in with a spare key.
Flying into a rage, he screamed abuse at the friend — "Who the hell are you?!" and "I'll make sure you can't walk the streets again!" — and when the friend tried to calm him down with "Let's just talk this through," the rampage didn't stop and turned violent.
Ms. A subsequently filed a criminal complaint with the Fukuoka Prefectural Police's Chuo Station.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Reports like this usually start as first accounts from weekly magazines, and at the time of writing, neither the team nor the police have handed down any official discipline or filed formal charges. “Filing a criminal complaint” is only the starting point of an investigation, not a finding of guilt — a distinction worth keeping in mind while reading. A recurring theme in the thread was commenters’ shared recollection that the team has produced multiple scandal-hit players among its past first-round picks, with the draft-pick list in post #66 used to back up that impression. At the same time, users compared the case to the assault involving Hanshin Tigers pitcher Ibara, reported around the same period (a case of a somewhat different nature, since Ibara has admitted wrongdoing), with opinions split over whether this reflects a team-specific problem or a matter of individual character. Note that the thread also included some unverified claims about real coaches and other players; since these are unconfirmed and not directly related to this case, they have been left out of this article.

  • Comedian Hitori Gekidan Slams Delivery’s “4-Hour Morning-Only” Window — 5ch Claps Back: “Do You Know How Hard Drivers Have It?”

Comedian Hitori Gekidan sparked discussion after questioning why home delivery time slots are split into 2-hour windows after noon, yet mornings only offer a single 4-hour window from 8am to noon. The topic split opinion on 5ch over delivery drivers’ actual working conditions and how the time-slot system works. While some argued time slots should become a paid option, or that Hitori — presumably well-off — has no room to complain, a poster claiming to work for a major delivery company explained that drivers can only make one loop through their assigned area in the morning, making finer time slots impossible then. The thread ended up as more than just pile-on grumbling.

    Sep 2 (Wed), 4:30 PM

Comedian Hitori Gekidan is making waves after venting frustration over home delivery “time slot” options.

“He took issue with the fact that after noon the windows are split into 2-hour increments, but for some reason the morning slot spans a full 4 hours, from 8am to noon,” said one entertainment reporter.

If they come once and you're not home, sometimes they'll swing by again if they're back in the area. And even with a time slot booked, if they're passing through the neighborhood on another delivery and happen to be able to park, they might just drop it off early.

    99AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:11
I work for a major delivery company, and there are several reasons the morning slot is a 4-hour window.

The main reason is that delivery drivers have a fixed assigned area, and within that area they only pass each address once during the morning. If there were two morning packages for the same address — say one for 8-10am and another for 10am-noon — delivering them would require looping through the area twice, which is extremely inefficient. As for why the afternoon can be split into narrower windows: delivering a lot of packages in the morning frees up enough time to make multiple loops in the afternoon.

If you want to know roughly when your morning-slot package will arrive, just remember what time your morning packages have shown up in the past — since the route order never changes, it'll usually arrive around the same time.

I work for a major delivery company, and there are several reasons the morning slot is a 4-hour window.

The main reason is that delivery drivers have a fixed assigned area and a fixed route order through it. The driver makes one loop through that area in the morning, so each address only gets passed once during that time. If there were two morning packages for the same address — say one for 8-10am and another for 10am-noon — delivering them would require two loops, which is extremely inefficient.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Home delivery time slots are split into 2-hour increments in the afternoon at most companies, but mornings get just a single 4-hour window. According to a poster in the thread claiming to work for a major delivery company, that’s because drivers follow a fixed route through their assigned area and can only make one loop through it in the morning — if the same address had multiple morning slots, the driver would need two loops, which would be inefficient. The thread split over where to put the weight: on consumers’ demand for tighter time slots, or on the burden that would place on delivery workers in the field. A proposal to charge for time-slot requests came up, but so did concerns that it would just increase missed-delivery redos, or that paying customers would complain more over even minor delays. The reaction cited in the reporting — “On X, people are saying ‘Do you have any idea how hard this is?’” — reflects sympathy for delivery workers more than agreement with Hitori’s comment itself. But on 5ch, the discussion tangled together criticism of customers who vent without understanding how the system works, and anxiety about the labor shortage in the delivery industry — a nuance the original news article doesn’t fully capture.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports Breaking News+) thread “Hitori Gekidan complains that delivery’s morning slot spans “8am to noon, a full 4 hours” — on X: “Do you have any idea how hard this is? Seriously.”“

  • BABYMETAL opens for My Chemical Romance at US stadium — fans clash over how full the seats really were

A thread went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board reporting that BABYMETAL opened for My Chemical Romance at a US stadium show. After social media posts showed the stands filling up right from the start and the crowd going wild with hands in the air, the thread lit up with praise. But a counter-argument also emerged — that the stands only looked full because fans were simply taking their seats before sunset made it dark — sparking a split over what really drew the crowd. The thread also touched on BABYMETAL being featured on a Marvel Comics variant cover.

    BABYMETAL's doing alright
There was some cheering, apparently, though not huge
But when Gimme Chocolate!! played, the crowd reportedly went off
Guess that song really is the famous one

    Background and points of debate

BABYMETAL has been drawing crowds at festivals and arena shows across the US and Europe since the 2010s, and this time they opened for My Chemical Romance at a US stadium show. It’s generally common for an opening act’s seating not to be full right at the start, and the thread saw an unresolved clash between the view that “the stands only filled up because people sat down before sunset” and the view that “filling up this much for an opener is unusual.” As for awareness levels, a figure of “about 40% already knew about them” is cited, based on a single attendee’s post from the venue that day — but it’s worth noting this comes from one person’s impression, not an actual survey. The also-discussed Marvel Comics variant cover feature was presented alongside past examples like Queen and Nirvana, though whether it was a paid placement was never confirmed within the thread.

  • Nepal’s Foreign Minister: ‘Climate Change Caused the Landslide’ — Demands Compensation from China, the US, and India

A week after a massive landslide struck near the Nepal-China border, the death toll has reached 1,003 (987 in Nepal, 16 in China), with 4,462 people still missing (including five members of a Japanese family). Nepal’s Foreign Minister Kanal argued that global climate change, which triggered glacial melt, was the cause of the disaster, and singled out China, the US, and India — the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitters — as bearing a “historic responsibility to pay compensation.” On 5ch, opinions were divided over whether this claim would hold up internationally, and whether Nepal’s own lagging infrastructure also contributed to the scale of the damage.

Nepal’s Foreign Minister blames climate change, says US, China, and India bear “responsibility to compensate” — death toll hits 1,000, supply shortages worsen

[Kathmandu — Yoshiaki Nishimi] Tuesday marks one week since the landslide disaster struck near the Nepal-China border. In an interview aired on local television on Monday, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Kanal stated that global climate change and warming-driven “glacial melt” in the Himalayan region was behind the disaster, and named China, the United States, and India — the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitters — as bearing a “historic responsibility to pay compensation.”

According to Chinese and Nepalese government and media sources, the death toll has surpassed 1,000, reaching 1,003 in total, with 4,462 people still missing. Of the deaths, 987 were in Nepal and 16 in China. Of those missing, 3,916 are on the Nepal side — including five members of a Japanese family — and 546 on the Chinese side.

Of course the US belongs on there.
India's a bit more borderline — though those three countries together account for roughly half of emissions, so it's fair enough.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

On compensation for climate-driven “loss and damage,” COP27 already agreed to establish an international fund — but for an affected country to go so far as naming specific major emitters and demanding responsibility is unusual. Within the thread, one flashpoint was how differently the numbers look depending on whether greenhouse gas emissions are measured as a “national total” or “per capita.” By total volume, China is the world’s largest emitter, but per capita the US is far ahead — so which metric you use changes who looks “most responsible.” Another point of disagreement was whether the glacier collapse itself, or Nepal’s underdeveloped disaster-prevention infrastructure, was the bigger factor behind the scale of the damage — Nepal’s rugged, glacier-heavy terrain makes such infrastructure notoriously difficult to build. How causation and responsibility for climate change would be proven and apportioned under international law remains an open question, and similar claims from other countries may well follow.

    Re: #91
    That's a great explanation lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

A vasectomy (vas deferens ligation) is a procedure in which the vas deferens is tied off or cut so that sperm no longer mixes into the semen; since the testicles themselves are left intact, it generally has no effect on male hormones, sex drive, or erectile function. The thread included posts explaining that this differs mechanically from castration (testicle removal), clearing up some misunderstandings. Actor Matsukata Hiroki once publicly revealed he’d had the same procedure, and his name came up again here. Because the surgery only ties off the vas deferens, a reversal procedure exists in theory, but its success rate isn’t high, so it’s often treated as ‘essentially irreversible.’ Reactions in the thread split between people asking about the mechanics as a matter of health information, and prying, tabloid-style speculation about his personal life — namely, that he already has three children at age 27. Some of the latter bordered on baseless digs at him and his family, and those portions have been left out of this summary. Choosing a vasectomy for contraceptive reasons is fairly common in itself, and a certain number of men opt for it as part of family planning.

On his own social media, he had explained, “It flares up on a 2-3 year cycle, and once I enter a cluster period, I end up living with the attacks for about two months.” On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports Breaking News+ thread, people who’ve experienced the same cluster headaches or migraines chimed in with comments like “It’s like having your eyeball gouged out” and “It’s so painful it’s nicknamed the ‘suicide headache,’” along with exchanges of tips on remedies like Imigran and oxygen inhalation, with many voices showing sympathy for his ongoing struggle.

Ichiro Yamaguchi (45) of rock band Sakanaction appeared on Nippon Broadcasting’s “Sakanaction Ichiro Yamaguchi’s All Night Nippon,” which aired late night on the 1st. He spoke about the symptoms of his chronic cluster headaches.

That same day, Yamaguchi had announced via his own social media, “My chronic cluster headaches have started up again. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but in my case, cluster headaches occur on a 2-3 year cycle, and once a cluster period begins, it lasts about two months. So for a while now, I’ll be living alongside these attacks.”

    Re: #67
Self-injection is actually an approved treatment for cluster headaches.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Cluster headaches are a type of headache marked by intense, one-sided pain running from behind the eye to the temple. Once triggered, attacks tend to strike at the same time of day for several days running, forming what’s called a “cluster period” that can last from several weeks to several months, alternating with symptom-free stretches. It’s more common among middle-aged and older men, and its prevalence is considerably lower than migraine’s — but the pain is so severe that overseas it’s sometimes called the “suicide headache.” Treatment relies less on over-the-counter painkillers and more on standard attack-time measures like injections or nasal sprays of triptan-class drugs (such as Imigran) or inhaling high-concentration oxygen, which is likely why so many commenters on the thread noted that Loxonin doesn’t work. While people who’ve experienced the same symptoms traded notes on the intensity of the pain and how to cope with it, some comments expressed skepticism about just how severe the condition really is, highlighting a gap in understanding.

  • Don’t Call Us “Little Kyoto”: Kanazawa and Hida-Takayama Ditch the Label to Bet on Their Own Identity

Municipalities such as Kanazawa and Hida-Takayama, which have long marketed themselves as tourist destinations under the label “Little Kyoto,” are increasingly moving to distance themselves from that name. According to the Sankei Shimbun, membership in the nationwide organization of self-styled “Little Kyotos” has fallen to roughly two-thirds of its peak, reflecting a shift in tourism strategy toward highlighting each region’s own distinct history and culture. On 5ch, the topic sparked a thread full of similar regional nicknames — “Little Edo,” “Little Tokyo,” “America Village” and more — with one Kanazawa resident commenting, “Nobody around here actually calls it ‘Little Kyoto.’”

    9/2 (Wed) 12:44

    Sankei Shimbun

The label “Little Kyoto,” used by municipalities with scenery resembling Kyoto or historical ties to it, is at a turning point. Membership in the nationwide organization of self-styled “Little Kyotos” has dropped to about two-thirds of its peak. Kanazawa and Hida-Takayama — both strongly associated with the “Little Kyoto” image — have also taken the sign down. Behind this is a shift in tourism trends toward valuing each region’s own distinctive history and culture, with experts predicting that “differentiation from other regions will likely keep spreading.”

    Re: #213
Got some business with little Tama City or something?

Background and key points of this discussion

“Little Kyoto” is a nickname that municipalities across Japan began adopting during the postwar tourism boom, riding on Kyoto’s name recognition — there’s no official certification system behind it. In recent years, with the spread of social media, tourism strategies have increasingly shifted toward showcasing “what only this place has” rather than emphasizing similarities to somewhere else, and this move away from “Little Kyoto” is part of that broader trend. As seen in the thread with Kanazawa’s “Kaga Hyakuman-goku” brand, regions that already have an established identity of their own seem less reliant on the “Little Kyoto” label. On the other hand, in places like Hida-Takayama and Kawagoe’s “Little Edo,” the nickname itself has functioned as a tourism asset, so it’s hard to tell from the original article alone whether this shift away from the label will play out uniformly nationwide.

BABYMETAL will appear on a limited-edition variant cover for the US-released Marvel comic ‘Marvel Zombies: War Zone.’ The project grew out of the band’s 2025 collaboration providing a song for the anime series ‘Marvel Zombies,’ and a limited quantity will also go on sale in Japan starting September 7 via the online store ‘A!SMART.’ The news sparked a comparison debate on a 5ch thread over just how well-known BABYMETAL really is overseas, with posters citing supposed AI-calculated recognition rates and comparing the band’s latest album chart rankings against BABYMONSTER’s — opinions were split.

BABYMETAL, currently in the middle of a roughly month-long North American tour, has been confirmed to appear on a limited variant cover celebrating the release of the US Marvel comic ‘Marvel Zombies: War Zone (2026) #1.’ BABYMETAL now joins the lineup of rare collectible items in which world-class athletes and entertainers appear alongside Marvel’s iconic characters in official comic works.

BABYMETAL provided the song ‘from me to u feat. Poppy’ as the trailer theme for the animated series ‘Marvel Zombies’ in 2025, and this limited variant cover was created drawing inspiration from BABYMETAL’s ongoing collaboration with ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Produced in limited quantities, it goes on sale in Japan starting Monday, September 7 at 18:00 via the online store ‘A!SMART.’

Well, they're popular in Europe, Latin America, and Oceania too, you know.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Marvel’s limited celebrity variant covers are a series in which world-famous athletes and artists appear alongside comic characters, and BABYMETAL was brought on board thanks to their tie-in from providing a song for the 2025 anime ‘Marvel Zombies.’ What split the thread was how to measure ‘fame overseas.’ The AI-estimated recognition rates one side presented came with no clear methodology or sourcing, making them little more than a rough guide at best. The other side fired back with the first-week chart rankings of the latest albums in the US, UK, and Germany, but those are also just short-term figures that don’t necessarily prove long-term name recognition. Readers should note that neither set of numbers is official survey data — and the exchange itself devolved more into an emotional back-and-forth than a real debate over data validity.

37 minutes is way too long
    Split it into groups like:
    Nonaka/Oda
    Okamura/Yamazaki
    Sakurai/Inoue/Yugeta

    Yasuda/Sugihara
    Suzuki/Ishikawa
    or something like that
    7AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:05
Doubt this gets more views than the Kohmi Hirose x Juice=Juice video.
    9AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:05
    Re: #7
    Way too obvious.
    10AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:06
Been thinking this for a while, but shouldn't the leader focus on getting people interested in the first place, rather than making content for people who are already interested?
    11AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:06
Doesn't really mean anything if not all the members show up, right?
    12AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:06
I bet this won't get more views than the Kohmi Hirose x Juice=Juice video.
    13AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:07
    Re: #12
    Way too obvious.
    29AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:21
    Re: #12
Kind of telling that Juice=Juice is the only thing you can brag about.
    14AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:08
Wouldn't introducing the Juice=Juice members actually get more views?
    16AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:09
    Re: #14
    Way too obvious.
    15AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:08
    This right here —
it feels like watching a corporate presentation, boring.
Aren't you supposed to be an idol?
    17AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:10
If you split it up, nobody's gonna watch the later parts.
    18AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:11
The 'King of ○○' series does a better job of showing their personalities.
    22AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:13
    The audio sync is brutal.
Guess they gotta re-upload this one lol
    24AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:18
I liked the person who draws outfits on headless models though.
    26AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:20
    Re: #24
The one where Makino specifically redrew it as a rabbit?
    27AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:20
Old folks be like: 'The text is too small, I can't read it!!!'
    30AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:22
Feels like it'd do better if Juice=Juice members appeared in it.
    31AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:24
Just have the Juice=Juice channel introduce the Juice=Juice members.
    32AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:26
    Audio sync is terrible.
You'd normally check that before uploading, right?
    33AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:28
Miyu-chan's name isn't even in the 'using Oda as an example' part…
    35AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:30
I'm a new fan because of 'Mori-re-Mi' (a cutesy nickname for Nonaka), and this seems like a boring group.
    36AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:31
They didn't rewatch it after exporting, huh
There's no way you wouldn't notice audio sync being this bad.
    37AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:34
Only Nonaka's own fans are gonna watch this.
    39AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:42
Nonaka's projects are basically always boring.
    40AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:44

    46AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:54
This kind of thing should really be left to Rairii.
    47AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:54
Rather than this, releasing live footage would get way more views.
    48AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:56
    Re: #47
Apparently they can't get permission for that.
    49AnonymousSep 2, 2026 21:57
They should just have each member film their own clips and edit them together.
    52AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:04
It's long, and why release it the same day as Hallo Station?
It'd be easier to poach fans from other groups if you're already a Hello! Project fan,
so upload it tomorrow instead —
the old folks are asleep watching Hallo Station right now.
    53AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:04
Feels like it'd be more entertaining if Mesa made it.
    54AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:05
    Re: #53
Yeah, the 18th gen's Instagram has no sense of style either.
    55AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:06
    Re: #54
    Not Instagram, TikTok.
    56AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:10
    That was fun.
I like how they draw the panda.
    57AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:11
The one where Mesa and Hanano did that weird dance was cute though.

    Background and Talking Points

This video is one entry in the “Oshi-katsu Class” series, a project pitched by Morning Musume。’26’s Miki Nonaka, aimed at introducing new fans to the personalities of the current members. What divided opinion in the thread wasn’t the content of the project itself, but its production quality. Multiple commenters pointed out that the audio and video were out of sync, while the 37-minute runtime drew a mix of “please split it into smaller parts” requests and “if you split it up, no one will watch the later parts” pushback — no clear consensus emerged. Comparisons to a Juice=Juice video (also under the Hello! Project umbrella) came up often, though nothing in the thread actually compares the two videos’ view counts. There were few concrete comments about the video’s actual content, and true to a live-discussion thread posted right after release, the reactions centered mainly on production issues.
