  • Sony Launches New Wired Earbuds, 5ch Reacts: “Charging Them Every Time Is Such a Hassle”

A thread popped up on 5ch’s “Nanide Jikkyo G” board about Sony releasing a new wired earbud model, of all things, at this point in time. With wireless earbuds having been the mainstream choice for a long while now, wired-earbud loyalists piled on with complaints about wireless — “charging is a pain,” “too easy to lose.” At the same time, posters pointed out the practical wall of “my phone doesn’t even have a jack,” and others praised the convenience of noise-canceling and touch controls, leaving opinions split on which is actually better. There was also a reply asking for ASMR-listening recommendations, showing that the right pick really depends on what you’re using it for.

    Sad.

I mean, I keep a pair of wireless ones around too, but normally you'd only buy the disposable-tier ones under ¥10,000.

Charging them every single time is such a pain.
    They're so easy to lose.

I genuinely can't see the value in wireless earbuds.
The whole wireless feature is clearly pointless.

Oh right! Wired ones don't need power.
But my phone doesn't even have a jack.

Personally, I think the perks are no touch noise, and not having the cable snag and go "boing" on you.
I hate noise-canceling so I don't use it, but some people count that as a plus too.

But for those perks, the downsides are just way too many and way too big.
    15AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:50
Wireless earbuds only caught on because Japan's so safe.
Wear those overseas and you won't have enough lives to spare.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Fully wireless earbuds spread rapidly after AirPods hit the market, and they’re now the mainstay product on store shelves. At the same time, the hassle of charging and how easy they are to lose have been weak points pointed out since they first appeared, and this thread saw those same complaints repeated. Wired earbuds don’t need power and are harder to lose, but it’s easy to overlook the physical constraint that many modern smartphones have dropped the headphone jack entirely, meaning you can’t even plug them in in the first place. There was also a reply asking for ASMR-listening recommendations, which drew comments noting that the reputation of certain enthusiast-oriented brands has shifted — a sign that the right choice really depends on use case and personal taste. Note that the latter half of the thread veers off into arguments between posters, so this article focuses on and excerpts the parts relevant to choosing earbuds.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Nanide Jikkyo G) thread “Sony’s putting out new wired earbuds only now lol“.

  • Sakamoto Aoka: “I Want to Join OCHA NORMA” — 5ch: “No Trainee Ever Says She Doesn’t Want In”

Reactions spread across 5ch after Hello! Project staff member “Kyururun” said that trainee Sakamoto Aoka wants to join OCHA NORMA. Some argued that when trainees are asked which group they’d like to join, they’re just giving a diplomatic non-answer — but others pointed out past cases where trainees who publicly stated their preference really were placed in that very group, splitting opinion on how much weight to give the comment. The thread also touched on the status of other trainees like Nemoto Tsubaki, and the recurring pattern of the agency making personnel decisions that defy fan predictions.

    49AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:47
The Chairman probably doesn't touch anything except for people with connections or his own favorites — he just gives the final OK.
    51AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:50
It's obvious OCHA's concept is having members from all different hometowns.
Tashiro's Kanagawa slot is open, so Sakamoto becomes a strong candidate for OCHA.
But the moment you start pushing the "hometown theory," they'll do the opposite and throw in Yoshida from Tokyo or Hattori from Aichi instead.
Yet if nobody pushes the hometown theory, the "all different hometowns" concept just stays intact on its own.
(Just like how they kept birthdays from overlapping for over ten years straight — the first time two members shared a birthday was Tanaka and Sakurai.)
Personnel decisions are a tug-of-war between the forum posters and this garbage agency.

Hello! Project trainee Goto Hana: "I want to join ANGERME"
    https://kizuna.5ch.io/test/read.cgi/morningcoffee/1672119914/

    Background and Key Points

OCHA NORMA is a group that has grown by welcoming new members from Hello! Project’s trainee pool, and Sakamoto Aoka is currently active as a trainee. When trainees are asked which group they’d like to join, there’s a tendency to give an inoffensive answer that won’t ruffle feathers — as replies 2 and 9 point out, such statements are hard to take entirely at face value. On the other hand, as reply 18 notes with examples like Hashisako, Ishiyama, Goto, and Hayashi, there are multiple cases of members who publicly stated their desired group before actually joining it, so it can’t simply be dismissed as diplomatic small talk either. The thread also raised the recurring pattern of the agency making personnel decisions that go against fan predictions, reinforcing the view that Sakamoto’s comment doesn’t necessarily guarantee she’ll end up in OCHA NORMA. Note that any comments in the thread naming real staff members in connection with personnel authority are unverified fan speculation.

  • Is Your 50s the “Halfway Point of Life”? Forum Reacts to Where the Baby Boomer Juniors Are Now

A Yahoo! News article about the lives of people in their early 50s from the “Baby Boomer Junior” generation sparked discussion on 5ch’s News Express+ board. The original article questioned whether “halfway point of life” is really the right way to describe this generation, and the thread filled up with comments pointing out a mismatch in how people perceive age, from “halfway point? more like already elderly” to “40-45 is the real halfway point.” At the same time, many posters shared stories of their 80-something parents still energetically playing golf or hiking, highlighting a disconnect between the hardships of the Employment Ice Age and the lived reality of today’s increasing longevity. Some comments also noted how many Baby Boomer Juniors never had children, and the generational discussion expanded to cover economics, health, and the declining birth rate.

Nobunaga said "a man's life is 50 years," remember?
Inside your body, decline starts once you're past 30, and once you're past 50, biologically speaking, a doctor told me you could drop dead anytime and it wouldn't be strange.
For example, you might think hardening only affects the arteries, but the heart valves also stiffen, deform, and stop closing properly.
    The person just doesn't notice.
Apparently it's becoming really common now — if you catch it while you're still young, they swap it out for an artificial valve on the operating table.
Cancer and stroke rates go up too.

The Baby Boomer Juniors are generally defined as those born between 1971 and 1974, a generation whose job-hunting years overlapped with the so-called Employment Ice Age. What split opinion in this thread was the validity of the phrase “halfway point of life” — some see the 50s as still short of the halfway mark given today’s longer life expectancy, while many others felt that declining physical strength and health made it feel like “effectively old age.” Also notable, though hard to capture from the article alone, was the gap between this generation’s distinct experience of Ice Age-era low wages and harsh working conditions, and the sight of their own parents, now in their 80s, still leading active lives. It’s worth noting that while the Baby Boomer Junior and Employment Ice Age generations largely overlap, they aren’t strictly identical, and some posters in the thread pointed out that distinction.

  • Palworld’s Official Manga Drawn by Nagano — 5ch: ‘The Storytelling Is Dead’

The official Palworld account published a manga drawn in a style resembling manga artist Nagano (creator of Chiikawa), sparking a stir on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Thread posters were split on whether Nagano himself actually drew it or whether it was staff (or even AI) imitating his style, and plenty piled on with sarcasm given Palworld’s long history of being accused of ripping off Pokémon. Since Nintendo and Palworld developer Pocketpair are also locked in a patent lawsuit, several reactions referenced that ongoing legal context too.

MIZOGUCHIIII WINSU~ (stylized garbled katakana mimicking a broken-English arcade announcer shouting "Mizoguchi wins!")

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Ever since Palworld’s 2024 launch, its monster designs have drawn comparisons to Pokémon, and that September Nintendo actually sued Palworld developer Pocketpair for patent infringement — so there is a real, ongoing legal conflict between the two companies. This manga was largely received through that lens of “ripoff” criticism. The thread was split mainly over whether the manga was genuinely drawn by Nagano himself or was an imitation made to resemble his style, and no official confirmation either way turned up within the thread. Readers might easily mistake this for a real collaboration with Chiikawa or something Nintendo-sanctioned, but nothing in the thread’s discussion confirms it was a formal collaboration.

  • Kohaku Lineup Predictions: The Name ‘Juice=Juice’ Keeps Popping Up Everywhere on Social Media

As predictions for NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen (the Red and White Song Battle) heat up on X (formerly Twitter) and elsewhere, a 5ch thread turned its attention to how “every prediction out there seems to include Juice=Juice.” With =LOVE, CUTIE STREET, and Nogizaka46 treated as near-certain picks, the question became whether Juice=Juice would claim one of the remaining slots. The general public's take on ANGERME is basically 'Who? Never heard of them'

    Background and Key Points

NHK doesn’t officially announce the Kohaku lineup until December each year, so predictions circulating on social media in September are nothing more than fan speculation. The thread zeroed in on two things: Juice=Juice’s signature song ‘Moré! Mi Amore’ has picked up name recognition beyond idol fandom, even getting name-checked by a baseball commentator and a politician, and the fact that Hello! Project has several groups competing for attention at once. With Morning Musume。marking its 30th anniversary next year, some see the agency as wanting to prioritize its flagship group’s appearance, while Juice=Juice has racked up hit songs of its own in recent years — leaving fans divided over which group to back. The debate was further fueled by the fact that groups from other agencies, like =LOVE and CUTIE STREET, are already seen as near-certain to appear. Note that the actual selection criteria and number of slots are never made public, so there’s no guarantee any of these social media predictions will pan out.

  • “Drinking Out 5 Nights a Week Plus a Pack of Cigarettes a Day” Adds Up to ¥46 Million Over 30 Years — FP’s Estimate Sparks Mixed Reactions on 5ch

An article introducing a financial planner’s estimate that “going out drinking five nights a week and smoking a pack of cigarettes a day for 30 years adds up to roughly ¥46 million” became a hot topic on 5ch’s News Express+ board. Centered on the case of a single man in his 50s who bar-hops every night at standing bars in Shimbashi, the piece asks whether people should rethink their spending on alcohol and cigarettes as part of retirement planning. On the thread, many criticized the premise — ¥5,000 per outing, five times a week — as wildly exaggerated, while others pointed out the risk that seniors struggle to rent apartments, or noted that quitting drinking and smoking would just shift the spending to other hobbies. Opinions were split over the assumptions behind the calculation.

Quit drinking and smoking and you could “build a house” or “buy a Mercedes” — a line smokers and drinkers alike are sick of hearing. They fire back with “What’s a life without booze and cigarettes,” “It’s essential downtime for earning a living,” or “Quitting would just stress me out and be worse for my health.” But when you actually put a number on these costs, the reality is no laughing matter. So what should people do about drinking and smoking costs as they plan for retirement? We asked financial planner (FP) Chikako Uehara.

[Case Study] Bar-hopping through Shimbashi’s izakaya row, a single man pushing 50 realizes he’s drinking away ¥100,000 a month

“To blow off steam from work, I head straight to a standing bar in Shimbashi almost every night after work. Chatting with the regulars is fun, so I end up hopping to a second and third place. Standing bars are cheap per round, but I probably spend around ¥5,000 a day. I smoke along with the drinking too, so it might add up to quite a sum (laughs).”

    Background and Points of Debate

The “quit and you could build a house” style of calculation is a simple projection that assumes every yen saved by quitting alcohol and cigarettes would automatically go straight into savings — and commenters on the thread pushed back, noting that in reality the money would likely just shift to other hobbies like gaming, fan spending, or the sex industry. On the other hand, the difficulty elderly single people face in renting apartments is a real social issue that Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has flagged as well, and securing housing for retirement is an issue that needs to be considered separately from cutting back on drinking and smoking. The article’s case study is a model based on one man who bar-hops in Shimbashi, so it’s worth noting that the figures can’t simply be generalized without accounting for individual differences in spending habits and health.

  • Switch 2’s “Stellar Blade” Gets Simultaneous DLSS and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation — 5ch: “Completely Surpassed the PS5”

Foreign outlets report that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade will be the first title to combine NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling with AMD’s FSR 3.1 frame generation at the same time, and the news lit up 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board — a forum known for its console-war-style hardware debates. Some praised the technical combination itself, while others worried about the input lag that frame generation inevitably introduces by synthesizing extra frames to smooth out the framerate. Opinions split over how the Switch 2 version stacks up against the PS5 release, and whether the tech is even a good fit for an action game that demands precise parry and dodge timing.

Frame generation just isn't suited to a game like this.
A smoother picture doesn't matter if input response gets sluggish —
it'll throw off the timing on parries and just-dodges.
    75AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:50
    Re: #72
The timing will clearly differ from the PC and PS5 versions, but maybe the idea is that the Switch 2 version's timing simply IS "the" timing — the whole game is balanced around it, so that's fine on its own terms.
Honestly, isn't that the only real fix anyway?

Someone who played the PS5 version would have to relearn the newly-shifted timing, but for someone whose first-ever Stellar Blade is the Switch 2 version, that wouldn't matter — it's just "how the game is" for them from the start.
    78AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:54
    Re: #75
    Nah, I don't buy that.
Even on PC, turning frame generation on doesn't shift input timing.
Isn't the Switch version supposed to let you toggle it on/off anyway?
Some people won't want forced lag.
    76AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:51
In the gameplay footage they're pulling off parries and just-dodges just fine though?

    86AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:03
    Re: #78
On PC, specs vary wildly from user to user, so how much lag frame generation adds varies too — meaning the "correct," lag-adjusted timing would be different for every player…
There's no way they could re-tune timing around an ON/OFF toggle under those conditions. (Though I guess they could do some kind of pre-game input-lag calibration to account for everyone's setup…)
    99AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:17
People who can't tell lag, framerate, or resolution apart just… can't.
If you care, buy a PC.
Most people playing on Switch don't sweat that stuff.
    115AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:28
    Re: #99
In a demanding action game, input lag isn't something you can just shrug off as "notice it or don't"…
If the gap between what you see and what actually registers gets bad enough, even the least sensitive player will feel something's wrong.

Imagine a rhythm game on Easy mode, notes drifting in nice and slow, and no matter how perfectly you time your button press it keeps saying "Miss! Too late!" That would drive anyone crazy.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Switch 2 runs on a custom NVIDIA chip, so DLSS upscaling is a natural fit — what drew attention here was pairing it with a separate technology, FSR 3.1, for frame generation. As commenter #68 notes, FSR up through version 3 is an open standard that also runs on NVIDIA hardware, so combining it with DLSS isn’t actually unusual. Because frame generation works by synthesizing extra frames to smooth out the framerate, it inherently adds some input lag, and thread posters repeatedly questioned how well that fits an action game like this one, which demands split-second precision for parries and just-dodges. On the other hand, some argued that players experiencing Stellar Blade for the first time on Switch 2 won’t be affected by any mismatch with a “baseline” timing they never learned in the first place. For now, just how bad the real-world lag is remains an open question until the console is in players’ hands.

  • Car YouTuber Banned From Nissan Dealership Over AC Repair — Exposé Video Splits Opinion

Car YouTuber “Amaneko” revealed in a video that a Nissan dealership refused to accept her Nissan GT-R (bought used for about 25.45 million yen) for an AC repair in the summer of 2026. The AC trouble had persisted since she bought the car in 2023 — she’d once gotten a free unit replacement and a written apology from the dealer — but this time she was banned from the shop because, in her account, “past incidents hadn’t reflected well on them.” Since she owns seven cars in total, including a Lexus and a Ferrari, reactions on 5ch split between “the dealer has its reasons” / “sounds like a monster complainer” on one side, and “Nissan’s response here is awful” in her defense on the other.

Beautiful YouTuber with 7 luxury cars stirs controversy with four straight “venting” videos over “Nissan refused service” saga — insisting she’s “just one user” backfires with viewers

Amaneko, the car YouTuber who revealed trouble with a dealership over repairs to her beloved Nissan GT-R, posted a new members-only “complaint video” on August 31, and it’s causing a stir.

Amaneko has built a following as a car YouTuber who owns seven luxury vehicles in total, including a Lexus, a Honda NSX, and a Ferrari.

It's a private transaction between two parties, so the dealer does have the right to refuse service.

Also, these days if you let customer harassment slide, staff turnover goes up, and the losses end up outweighing the profit.

Both sides have a point here, but more and more companies are labeling people as harassers or chronic complainers and refusing store visits, phone calls, any response at all.

That's fine when it's a private transaction, but for places that can't refuse service — government offices, civil servants, schools, hospitals, railways — the public sector is struggling too, with more people going on mental health leave or quitting, which makes running those organizations hard as well.

Bought a used GT-R (Premium Edition T-spec) for about 25.45 million yen in fall 2023.
    AC trouble started in 2024.
In summer 2025, drove long-distance with the AC not working.
Brought it to Nissan Tokyo Sales for its first inspection that August; the unit was replaced under manufacturer warranty. After getting permission to film and posting the video, she got a DM from an employee's personal Instagram demanding she delete it — and it also came out that her ownership info had been leaked to other customers.
Because the dealer's customer relations desk handled it poorly, she called them out in a video that September (topping 1 million views).
In October, a written apology arrived under the store manager's name, but she complained it read like it was written by a "grade-schooler."
The AC issue came back in summer 2026; when she asked for a paid repair, she was refused service (banned) on the grounds that "past incidents hadn't reflected well on them," and is currently getting stopgap fixes done at a specialty shop.

    Re: #91
The dealer already admitted fault over the compliance violation and gave her a written apology — and now they're getting all defensive about it?

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Refusing a store visit or repair intake is a private transaction, so under the principle of freedom of contract, businesses have the right to decline service too. In recent years, as a countermeasure against customer harassment, more companies have been refusing to deal with customers who caused trouble in the past — and post #107 in the thread touches on exactly this dynamic. Within the thread, opinions criticizing “the dealer’s poor explanation and handling” were roughly balanced against those suspecting “the YouTuber’s exposé video itself was meant to stir up controversy,” with no clear consensus reached. It’s also worth noting that details recounted in the video — such as “a Nissan employee demanded it be deleted” and “there was an information leak” — are based solely on her own account, and the article does not present the dealership’s side of the story in any detail.

    Background and Talking Points

“Meshi tero” (food terrorism) is internet slang, born on 5ch and social media, for images or posts that powerfully trigger the viewer’s appetite — a staple request genre on livestream-discussion boards. In this thread, rather than people simply posting photos back and forth, things took off because one poster — apparently a regular — kept handing out their own personal “scores” one after another. There’s no consistent standard behind the scoring: dishes to the poster’s taste, like tenshinhan (crab omelet over rice) or fried rice, repeatedly earn scores far beyond a perfect mark — “120,000 points” — while dishes they don’t recognize get coldly low marks. Worth noting: this is playful, exaggerated “joke scoring” based purely on personal likes and dislikes, not an assessment of actual nutritional value or cooking quality — most of the comments amount to little more than gut reactions like “I want to eat this right now” or “I want it in my mouth.” Some exchanges that mocked the poster’s own appearance rather than the food itself were left out of this article.

  • Former Pachinko Parlor Employee Spills Industry Secrets: Cameras Automatically Stop Recording During Settings Changes

A thread titled “I used to work at a pachinko parlor, ask me anything” popped up on 5ch, with a poster claiming four years of experience at a pachinko parlor fielding a stream of questions from visitors. Topics ranged widely — the going rate of pay for pachinko “talent” and writers, which staff ranks are allowed to adjust the nails (pins) on machines, the mechanism by which camera recording automatically stops during settings changes, and the reality of “gan-jime” (deliberately locking down machines), where even new units go untouched unless they’re a popular model. Replies were split over whether the bulk of players’ money actually gets returned to customers or simply becomes store profit.

    Worked there for four years.
    3AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:43
What nickname do you give the old guy who only plays timing-based (chokuoshi) machines using his saved-up balls?
    6AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:45
Re: #3 Nah, we wouldn't give someone a nickname for something that minor.
    10AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:49
What do you think when you see someone hooked so bad they're playing with dead-fish eyes?
    17AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:54
Re: #10 Seriously, you should just quit pachinko… Especially since today's machines have basically zero appeal. Payout performance might be up, but the specs are brutal.
    13AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:51
How much do pachinko "talent" (on-screen personalities) usually get paid?
    22AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:58
Re: #13 I was never a manager so I don't know the details. But it really depends on the outlet — ranges all over the place. Some talent make it into three digits (i.e. over ¥1 million), though I heard from a manager that they apparently have to "buy" their way into several appearances on that outlet first.
    14AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:52
Did you ever actually interact with the talent? Or was it not even so much as a hello?
    25AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:03
Re: #14 I only made it to assistant manager, so I never had any real relationship with the talent — just enough to say hello. Even store managers barely have contact with them. Managers don't have as much authority as people think.
    20AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:57
Pachinko's ultimately a hobby for people with too much free time. I threw a ton of money down the drain on it too, but now work's so busy and I'm so exhausted that I can't play even when I want to — so the only way to actually quit pachinko is to become a workaholic.
    27AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:07
Re: #20 Also get a hobby besides pachinko. Even if you become a workaholic, if you've got nothing to do on your days off, you'll end up spending all day at the parlor anyway.
    21AnonymousSep 2, 2026 22:57
Re: #17 The specs aren't that different from the old days, are they?
    30AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:09
Re: #21 399 (1-in-399 jackpot odds) with only a 50% chance of entering the bonus round is pretty brutal, no? The continuation rate isn't great either.
    34AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:13
Re: #30 Old machines like Garo had specs like that too. Made it even more infuriating since the regular-mode animations were boring.
    43AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:17
Re: #30 I mean, averaged out, the break-even line (border) hasn't really changed though.
    24AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:01
Re: #22 Seriously? There's talent out there pulling in three digits (over ¥1 million)? No wonder losing ¥80,000 is nothing to them.
    33AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:12
Re: #24 That was back during the "writer bubble" — and even "three digits" just means a bit over ¥1 million. Also, obviously they don't keep all of it — agencies, outlets, and all sorts of middlemen take a cut. That's only true for a tiny handful of talent and writers anyway.
    28AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:08
Is it okay to just use the massage chairs or read manga instead of actually playing pachinko?
    36AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:13
Re: #28 Personally I don't see a problem with it, but some parlors are weirdly strict about that.
    29AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:08
What rank do you need to be allowed to adjust the nails (pins)? I'm not totally clear on how senior a deputy manager or store manager even is.
    39AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:16
Re: #29 Depends on the store and the company, but at the place I worked, assistant managers and up could do it. I got tapped on the shoulder and told "time to learn the keys." I went back in the middle of the night to help out, but that's when it hit me — if I kept going, I'd never escape this job — so that's when I quit.
    47AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:21
Ouchi Rei said it's a classic pachinko-staff thing for a machine to hit right after a customer gives up and walks away with pending holds (hoyru) still queued — is that actually true?
    55AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:28
Re: #47 Yeah, it hits. Like, "oh, it just landed a V-pan (V-zone win), lol" — that was a pretty common running joke.
    59AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:30
Re: #47 I've been playing pachinko for about 15 years and I've only seen it happen once. The guy next to me had no pre-reading indicators, nothing showing during the reel spin, so he quit — then right after the reels stopped, everything went dark and it triggered the strongest possible "reach" (near-miss animation) and hit. I grabbed the seat, cleared the win, then went looking for the old lady who'd been playing it, but couldn't find her, so I just kept it.
    61AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:31
Re: #47 Happens about once a week. Pretty much everyone who's worked the floor has seen it.
    82AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:47
These days basically only new machines actually get played. Right now that's Sword Art Online and Gundam. Tokyo Ghoul and Garo are still stubbornly hanging in there, but Cafe Terrace is done for.
    84AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:50
Re: #82 Don't new machines barely get played these days though? Whatever title's taken the crown, like Tokyo Ghoul, gets favored treatment at every single parlor.
    87AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:52
Re: #82 Of course — apart from the handful of machines they're pushing hard, everything else gets locked down (gan-jime). You're not supposed to play anything but the featured ones.
    90AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:55
Do they really stop the camera recording every single time someone adjusts the nails these days?
    96AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:58
Re: #90 At my place, we stopped it every time there was a settings change or "maintenance."
    100AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:59
Re: #90 Actually, it's set up to stop automatically. Like, recording just switches off after 11pm.
    98AnonymousSep 2, 2026 23:59
I've been doing machine and camera installation/replacement work for pachinko parlors since junior high — mostly for the Arrow group and Nobuta chains. Watching them collect all that cash after closing every night made me think anyone who actually plays pachinko is a fool.
    103AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:01
Re: #98 I mean, the majority of that money does get returned to customers though.
    111AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:07
Re: #98 That's just gross revenue, not gross profit — it's not like the whole amount becomes store profit.
    101AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:01
You can't really win on a machine when there's only one unit of it in the whole place, right? I like it and want to play it, but if I'm gonna play, I want to win too.
    106AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:04
Re: #101 If it's a low-stakes "yu-pachi" machine, you can actually do surprisingly okay.
    115AnonymousSep 3, 2026 00:10
Re: #101 Winning's probably tough, but isn't playing the machine you actually like the whole point of pachinko in the first place? Unless the nails are set brutally against you, just play it and enjoy it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

In recent years, tightened regulations on pachinko machine performance have capped jackpot odds and payout potential, making it harder for new machines — aside from licensed tie-in titles — to gain traction. The instruction described in the thread, “don’t play anything but the main models,” lines up with a practice actually used at many parlors: concentrating a limited number of units on popular titles to boost turnover. Stopping security camera recording is something often discussed within the industry as a way to avoid leaving a record of settings changes or nail adjustments, but it’s not a legally mandated disclosure — it’s left to each store’s discretion, and customers have no way to verify whether it’s true. The distinction between revenue and gross profit (the counterargument that most of what’s wagered is returned to players) is a point that’s easy to overlook when trying to understand pachinko’s economics, and the thread includes supplementary comments from differing perspectives on this too. All of this comes from the account of a single former employee, so it’s worth keeping in mind that practices likely vary by store and by era.
