  • Middle Schoolers’ Bad Behavior at Iwate Supermarket Leads to Ban on Solo Entry

It has come to light that at the Esuka shopping center in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, middle school students have repeatedly engaged in disruptive behavior — playing dangerous games on the escalators, charging their phones without permission, leaving half-eaten food trash lying around, and loudly filming videos for social media. In one case a student even hurled abuse at a customer who told them to stop. The store has now taken the step of banning middle schoolers from entering alone. On a 5channel thread, opinions split over whether responsibility for discipline lies with the school or the parents, and many pointed out how hard it is to curb this kind of misbehavior now that corporal punishment is banned.

    This happens in Tokyo too.
Kids who look like a mixed-nationality group sit right down on the sidewalk outside a department store, scarf down food, and leave the trash behind.
There's a security camera right above them, and I thought 'seriously?'… but then it turned out the guard just picks up the trash after they've left.
Apparently if you say something to them you get assaulted, so cleanup only happens once they're gone.

    Background and Key Talking Points

Cases of commercial facilities imposing measures like banning middle schoolers from entering alone have been reported in various places in recent years, typically used when staff warnings alone fail to curb disruptive behavior. This article doesn’t say whether the store consulted the school or parents beforehand, or how many students were involved. Where the thread’s opinions split was mainly over where responsibility for discipline lies — some argued schools have a duty to provide life guidance, while others countered that a school’s role is limited to teaching academics. Many also pointed out that with corporal punishment now banned, adults have few tools left to stop bad behavior on the spot — though this reads less like a call to bring back corporal punishment and more like frustration at the lack of alternatives. There was also discussion of the gap between urban and rural educational environments, though none of it identified specific students or stores.

  • Liella! Stream Sparks Viewer-Count Predictions — ‘Takoyaki Smoothie’ Recreation Also Steals the Show

On September 10th, Love Live! Superstar!!’s “Liella!” held a livestream right after a concert, and predictions about the simultaneous viewer count were flying around the 5ch live-commentary thread from the moment it started. Alongside comments like “It’ll probably hit around 5,000 anyway,” the recurring comparison with “Niji” (Nijigasaki High School Idol Club) got dredged up again, reviving an old argument about viewer numbers that factors in differing conditions. During the stream, reactions to how well the popular “takoyaki smoothie” merch was recreated also had people buzzing.

    Background and Talking Points

In the Love Live! franchise, a stream’s simultaneous viewer count is frequently used as a yardstick for comparing group popularity. The “Niji” referenced in this thread is shorthand for Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. Threads have long framed differing conditions — such as whether a stream airs right after a live show versus as a standalone broadcast — as “buffs” and “debuffs,” turning the discussion as much into a debate over comparison conditions as over raw numbers. This thread was no different, with posters citing past instances of the same argument and debating whether a simple viewer-count comparison is even valid. Worth noting: the actual final viewer count isn’t confirmed within the excerpted portion of the thread — the “3,000” figure in the thread title is a jab, not a confirmed number. The “takoyaki smoothie” is a recurring food item featured on stream, and opinions were split on how well it matched the version sold at past events.

  • SoftBank Wins Third Straight — Matsumoto Haru Notches 10th Victory, Yanagita’s Two Homers Down Fighters 3-2

In Pacific League action on September 10, SoftBank defeated the Nippon-Ham Fighters 3-2 to claim their third straight win. Starter Matsumoto Haru allowed just one run over five innings to pick up his 10th victory of the season, while Yanagita hit two home runs in the game and Masaki also went deep in a high-scoring slugfest. SoftBank’s record against the Fighters this season has now stretched to 5 wins, 18 losses, and 2 draws, and some posts brought up manager Shinjo’s preseason declaration of a ’96-win’ target. The thread was dominated by sarcastic remarks about the growing gap and banter between fans of both teams.

Winning on three home runs — that's usually the Fighters' whole thing, they basically stole their own opponent's playbook. All hail Gīta.

    Background and talking points

SoftBank’s season record against Nippon-Ham has widened to 5 wins, 18 losses, and 2 draws, driven largely by the gap in pitching stability and the raw power of SoftBank’s lineup. Matsumoto Haru picked up his 10th win of the season on this day, and Yanagita’s two-homer performance shows just how directly the team’s core players are driving results. On the other hand, it’s worth noting that manager Shinjo’s preseason talk of “96 wins” was more a rallying cry delivered in the excitement of the season opener than a formal target declaration. The thread was full of taunting rooted in the lopsided head-to-head record, but much of that back-and-forth amounted to rivalry-driven mudslinging between fan bases — this article focuses mainly on the excerpts relevant to the actual game.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Baseball] Pacific League H 3-2 F [9/10] Hawks win third straight, Matsumoto Haru 5 innings 1 run, Yanagita 2 HR, Masaki HR, Nippon-Ham vs Hawks now 5-18-2“.

  • Streamer Daisuke Hori’s 24-Hour Broadcast Adds ‘Nap’ Rule, Sparks Uproar on 5ch

Streamer Daisuke Hori is in the middle of a “24 hours a day, for one week” broadcast, and a new rule allowing “unlimited naps” has become a hot topic on 5ch. Hori has built his brand around being a “short sleeper” who supposedly only needs 30 minutes of sleep, and when the production staff explained that naps, passing out, and microsleeps don’t count as “sleep,” viewers — who already had their doubts — pushed back hard. The thread turned into a nitpicky back-and-forth over where exactly a nap ends and sleep begins, with commenters even comparing it to how little sleep parents of young children get.

There's also a wildly popular course — just 150,000 yen (roughly $1,000) — that teaches you to become a short sleeper like Hori and use your time more efficiently.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Daisuke Hori has built a following around time-management content, branding himself as a “short sleeper” who functions on just 30 minutes of sleep, and this week-long, round-the-clock broadcast was being watched as a live demonstration of that claim. The sticking point for the thread was the broadcast team’s explanation that “naps,” “passing out,” and “microsleeps” are all treated as separate from “sleep” — logic which means the “30 minutes of sleep” tagline never technically breaks, no matter how much total rest time adds up. Viewers seized on the vagueness of that distinction, and the thread lit up with half-joking comparisons to how little sleep parents of young children get. Some replies also referenced unverified rumors about Hori’s past activities; this article excludes those unsubstantiated claims.

  • Buy a Car, Change Your World: 5ch Thread Says It Made Them Experts on Geography and Landmarks

A post titled “After I bought a car, I got to know the geography, the landmarks, and all the good restaurants — my whole range of movement expanded” went up on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board (a general live-chat board), drawing over 40 replies. The thread split over whether owning a car itself is what determines your range of movement, or whether the real factor is where you live — city versus countryside. One side argued that cities offer a dense living sphere even without a car, while the other insisted that in rural areas life simply doesn’t function without one — and the two sides never quite met in the middle.

    125AnonymousSep 10, 2026 20:10
    Re: #106
You're just someone who walks everywhere, aren't you

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Car ownership rates are higher in rural areas than in cities, so the two sides of this debate start from fundamentally different premises: people in city centers with well-developed public transit who “don’t feel inconvenienced without a car,” versus people whose daily living sphere simply isn’t reached by public transit at all. The thread’s disagreement also never resolved, since some see the expansion of one’s range of movement as an effect of owning a car, while others see it purely as a matter of population density where you live.

As one reply pointed out, higher-income groups do tend to have higher car-ownership rates, and it’s actually been observed that even in urban areas, people are more likely to own a car as their income rises. It’s worth keeping in mind that the simple “city = no car needed” dichotomy tends to ignore factors like disposable income and family situation.

Claims like “owning a car makes you popular with women” or “no car means a narrow range of movement” don’t go beyond personal anecdotes, and no verifiable data was presented in the thread either. It’s entertaining as a read, but shouldn’t be taken as a generalizable conclusion.

  • Current Idol Says “Dating Ban Isn’t Really Necessary” — Sparks Debate; 5ch: “An Idol Is Still Just an Idol”

The unwritten “no dating” rule remains deeply entrenched in the idol world. Against that backdrop, a current idol’s comment — “That rule doesn’t really need to exist, does it? We’re professionals at singing and dancing” — became a hot topic on 5ch. In the thread, some agreed: “If they’re professionals, they should be free like artists are.” Others pushed back: “Idols are sold as a total package that includes pseudo-romance, not just singing and dancing.” Opinions split over how dating affects popularity and over what “professional” even means.

    56AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:56
    Re: #50
    That's true.
But idols aren't selling singing and dancing alone as their product, so they're not 'professional singers and dancers.'
An idol is still just an idol.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The idol “no dating” rule sometimes comes from an explicit clause in an agency contract or internal rulebook, and sometimes it’s a line idols draw for themselves out of fear of fan backlash or a drop in popularity. In this thread, one comment noted that “it’s not the agency banning it — the idols restrict themselves because otherwise fans stop spending money,” and reactions split depending on differing assumptions about who’s actually imposing the ban. Opinions also clashed over what counts as “professional” — whether it should be judged purely on singing and dancing skill, or on the idol’s overall value as a product, pseudo-romance included. How popularity is affected once a relationship comes to light also varies by group and fanbase, suggesting there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here.

    Lovely, isn't it?

    Background and Key Points

Kurashiki’s Bikan Historical Quarter is a preserved townscape lined with Edo-era white-walled storehouses, known as a tourist destination home to the Ohara Museum of Art, Japan’s first private museum dedicated to Western art. The Horseshoe Crab Museum mentioned in the thread is actually located not in Kurashiki but in the neighboring city of Kasaoka, a fair distance from the city center, so the “that’s far” reactions are geographically fair. As for the distance to Himeji, it’s about a 30-minute ride by shinkansen or roughly 2 hours by local train, so the split reactions of “that’s close” versus “the other place is more appealing” likely reflect differing tastes in city size and tourist attractions. The freewheeling live commentary of a solo traveler, bouncing off replies from apparent locals, makes for an exchange that rediscovers the charm of a regional city.

  • Fushimi Inari calls out foreign tourists’ dancing — but 5ch says ‘Japanese people do it too’

A video of foreign tourists dancing at the “Senbon Torii” (Thousand Torii Gates) of Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto has gone viral on social media, sparking controversy. On September 7, the shrine posted a notice on its official website asking visitors to behave with restraint, citing conduct that inconveniences other worshippers. Speaking to J-CAST, a shrine spokesperson commented, “It’s disappointing that Japanese culture isn’t understood.” On 5ch forums, users debated whether the behavior at the torii gates could be compared to similar acts at other religious sites, with some pointing out that Japanese influencers have done the same kind of dancing — leaving posters divided over whether this can really be called “a foreigners-only problem.”

    2026.09.10 17:58, Hiroyuki Noguchi

Videos showing foreign tourists dancing on their own under the torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto — famous for its “Senbon Torii” — have been circulating one after another on X since September 2026, causing a stir.

On the 7th, citing behavior that inconveniences other worshippers, Inari Taisha called for restrained conduct via a notice on its official website. We spoke to a shrine spokesperson to find out what’s actually happening on the ground.

People have been carving their names into torii gates,
and haven't you heard arson's been on the rise lately too?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Fushimi Inari Taisha is famous for its “Senbon Torii” (Thousand Torii Gates) and is a hugely popular spot for foreign tourists. This latest appeal came after reports that dancing and similar behavior done for photos or videos under the torii gates was inconveniencing other worshippers. In the thread, many posters drew comparisons to churches, mosques, and other religious sites, while others pointed out that Japanese influencers have done similar things — raising the question of whether this can really be pinned down as just “foreign tourists’ manners.” Some also noted the distinction between the space under the torii gates and places like the kagura-den (sacred dance hall), where offerings and performances are traditionally meant to happen, suggesting the debate may hinge less on whether the act itself is wrong and more on “choosing the right spot.” Note: posts touching on political topics or sweeping generalizations about specific ethnic groups have been excluded from this writeup.

  • Kojima Productions’ Move to Xbox Shakes PlayStation Community — Longtime Fans Turning into ‘Flipped Haters’

Developments surrounding Kojima Productions’ new titles became a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry board (Geha). According to the thread, OD, said to have originally been in development for Google, was picked up by Microsoft and remains in production, while Physint, reportedly a PlayStation title, has also moved to Microsoft due to circumstances on Sony’s side. Opinions in the thread were split on whether the delays are Kojima Productions’ fault or the result of Sony’s shift away from big-budget single-player games, and the discussion drew attention as criticism came even from posters who had long defended Sony.

I want to believe they're not dumb enough to actually do that…

    …but it's Microsoft, so it's entirely possible.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The hardware/industry board known as “Geha” is a place where rivalries between fanbases tend to surface every time relationships with platform holders shift, and this thread followed that pattern once again. It’s worth noting that the details discussed in the thread about OD’s history and Physint’s move being due to circumstances on Sony’s side are all secondhand accounts from posters, not official announcements. The core of the debate splits between those who put the blame for development delays on the studio itself and those who point to a shift in publisher policy away from big-budget single-player development — the latter view echoes a topic that has come up across the wider game industry recently amid rising development costs. The fact that criticism came even from posters long seen as pro-Sony is part of what drove this thread’s momentum.

  • 24% Say They “Trust” Social Media Information — Trust Runs Higher Among Younger Generations, Yomiuri/Waseda Survey Finds

A joint nationwide public opinion survey conducted by the Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University found that only 24% of respondents said they “trust” social media information about political and social events, while 74% said they “don’t trust” it. By age group, the 18-39 bracket had the highest rate at 38%, a stark contrast to just 14% among those 60 and older. On the thread, some took the result as reassuring — “good that it’s still a minority” — while others pushed back hard, insisting “old media can’t be trusted anymore either.” Opinion was split over which source actually deserves more trust.

In a joint nationwide public opinion survey (conducted by mail) by the Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University’s Institute for Advanced Social Sciences, respondents were asked how much they trust information on social media platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) regarding political and social affairs.

Those who said they “trust” it — including “to some extent” — came to 24% in total, while those who “don’t trust” it — including “not very much” — reached 74%.

Broken down by age, the share who said they “trust” it was 38% among 18-39 year-olds, 28% among 40-59 year-olds, and 14% among those 60 and older — trust was higher the younger the age group.

Only thing on the net you can trust is Newsspeed+ (this very 5ch board), honestly…

First reports on earthquakes fly in here at lightning speed, lol. No idea where people even get it from though.
    22AnonymousSep 10, 2026 15:59
They should've also surveyed how many people "trust" old media while they were at it. This is one-sided.

    Re: #22
Even so, whatever rumors circulate online are still just rumors. But once old media reports it, everyone's like "KITAAAA!!! (a 2ch/5ch exclamation meaning 'here it comes!')" — so when it comes to basic fact confirmation, people still trust old media after all, don't they?
    27AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:04
Old media's been desperately pushing this "social media is all misinformation" line lately, but you guys spread misinformation freely for years too. Don't start playing righteous just because your position's gotten shaky.

    Re: #27
YouTubers are a hundred times worse for spreading misinformation. Even your distrust of the media was stirred up by online influencers in the first place.
    34AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:07
Social media posts are just personal opinions, so who cares. Is there some rule that says you're not allowed to post anything unless it's true?
    46AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:19
    Re: #34
    Then just don't believe it.

    Re: #3
You have any idea how much misinformation floods social media?

    Re: #59
    Crazy, right?
    67AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:28
"The truth is on the internet," huh. Must just be low intelligence.

    Re: #67
And only realizing it now. Would've made sense 20 years ago, but…
    105AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:58
For starters, online I got branded an alcoholic, but I actually don't drink a single drop.

    Apparently I'm a Russian spy.

It's not just the information — the comments have gotten creepy too. Over-the-top praise, cringe-inducing flattery on one side; aggressive, contemptuous put-downs on the other. Both sides going way overboard with extreme language.

    Re: #113
Video comment sections lately are wild. There's definitely some organized group posting in there. You get comments so excessively deferential and low it's creepy, like followers begging their guru for teachings, plus a wave of bandwagon "me too!" agreement comments. And the anti comments look coordinated too — a group all piling on with similarly-worded complaints at once.
    126AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:09
No way idiots are only 24%. Pretty much everyone on social media is an idiot.
    128AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:11
    Re: #126
There are people who post just to stir up fights, sure, but that's about how many actually believe it. They're idiots, but they think they're smart.
    200AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:00
If you just assume all information is fake, there's nothing to fear. To believe something, you check the reasons and evidence for yourself, with your own head.
    201AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:02
    Re: #200
No, first go check the facts… You get fooled precisely because you're going on about "believing" and "reasons and evidence" and "thinking with your own head."
    206AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:05
    Re: #201
There's no way to actually verify "facts." Depending on how something is framed, even the facts can look different.

Even if something's a fact from one angle, that doesn't mean it's the whole picture.
    208AnonymousSep 10, 2026 19:07
    Re: #206
IF YOU CAN'T VERIFY IT, IT'S NOT A FACT, AAAAAAAAAH!
YOU'RE JUST MAKING UP HALF-ASSED REASONING IN YOUR OWN HEAD FOR THINGS YOU CAN'T VERIFY AND BELIEVING IT, AAAAAAAH!

    You seriously don't get anything.

    Re: #206
"Think for yourself" is a classic excuse dummies use when they just want to ignore inconvenient sources. Sure, verifying something as fact with 100% accuracy is impossible — but there's a world of difference between someone who's actually trying to verify things, aiming to get as close to 100% accuracy as they can, and someone who's given up on verifying anything, pushes their own delusions, and calls it "thinking for myself" for self-satisfaction.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The Yomiuri Shimbun and Waseda University run this joint nationwide mail-in survey every year, and this round asked not only about trust in social media but also how people actually get their political information. In a separate question from the same survey, cited in post #30, the top sources for political information were commercial TV at 25% and NHK at 22%, with video sites and social media combined accounting for only around 15%. In other words, there’s a gap between the 24% “trust” figure and how much people actually rely on social media to gather information — a nuance easy to miss without reading the original article. The thread split over which is less trustworthy, social media or old media, with arguments about how reach scales with the sheer number of posters running alongside pushback along the lines of “the media is just as guilty.” Note that the thread never really digs into how strong the correlation is between trusting social media and “higher approval of extreme claims” — for that detail, you’d need to check the analysis in the original article.
