  • Hiroyuki Claims “More People Would Fix the Economy” — 5ch Fires Back: “And How Exactly?”

Businessman Hiroyuki (Hiroyuki Nishimura) updated his X account by the 9th, reportedly citing population growth as the “breakthrough” for rebuilding Japan’s economy, posting that “nobody would deny that increasing the population would improve Japan’s economy.” He offered no concrete policy proposals, and on 5ch the first reaction was the obvious practical question: “Okay, but how exactly do you increase it?” The discussion spread in many directions — the relationship between women’s workforce participation and the birth rate, the impact of the job market and the “employment ice age” generation, and birth rate situations in other countries — with a resigned mood standing out, as many concluded there’s no easy fix.

Businessman Hiroyuki Nishimura (49) updated his X (formerly Twitter) account by the 10th, laying out a “breakthrough” to rebuild Japan’s economy.

Hiroyuki posted: “There are various proposals for rebuilding Japan’s economy, and who knows if they’d actually work, but nobody would deny that ‘increasing the population would improve Japan’s economy.’”

It's obvious if you look at the countries with the highest birth rates.
But society looks away from that fact.
Also, if we're using South Korea's terrible birth rate as a cautionary tale, we need to avoid letting looks-obsessed culture and men-vs-women divide ideology spread.

But nobody in real life can actually say this out loud, so no matter what low-birthrate countermeasures you design, it's hopeless.

It's a structure where companies profit by soaking up all of families' time, so birth rates fall in every developed country.

The birth rate was already falling, and then they cut youth employment and created the "employment ice age" generation —
isn't it the case that following short-term market logic is exactly what causes low birth rates?
    45AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:15
    Re: #30
Ironically, the rise in staying single combined with women entering the workforce meant men and women ended up fighting over a limited pool of jobs, which is what made the ice-age generation so miserable.
If the old-fashioned division of labor — men working and earning money, women mainly handling childbirth, childcare, and the household — had been kept up, the job market wouldn't have gotten so brutal, and the birth rate would have been higher too.

No country on Earth has solved its low birth rate — why would you think Japan can?
    87AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:44
The low birth rate comes down to ① jobs — it's not that there are no kids, it's that there were no jobs to begin with.
The employment ice age is exactly that.

Even back when there were plenty of highly educated kids, there weren't enough jobs, and without connections you couldn't land work that matched your education and paid accordingly — so the huge cohort of kids from the high-birth era became job-hunting refugees the moment they graduated.

A job that only pays enough to cover living costs, with no real ability to save, is basically slave labor — and today's Japan is full of exactly that: brutal jobs with slave wages, while big profitable companies still run mass layoffs.

    Because of the "hire-all-new-grads-at-once" system,
each kid costs you the equivalent of 50 million yen (roughly $330,000) in debt.
How are you supposed to have more kids with that?

Universities that exist purely to land you a job are going to be the death of Japan.
    106AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:57
    Re: #98
Funny how nobody ever argues that companies should prioritize hiring less-educated people (high school or middle school grads).
The public itself endorses companies prioritizing highly educated hires, so nothing's going to change.
    115AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:04
As a starting premise, raising the birth rate is impossible without some level of coercion pushing women to give birth.
Obviously that's a non-starter in today's world on human-rights grounds, so it's just not happening.
Your only options are places like Africa, the Middle East, and Islamic countries where women's rights are restricted, or places like Israel where religious teachings drive people to have kids.
    116AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:05
Let's just say the biggest cause of the low birth rate straight out: "kids are given too many rights and too much money is spent on them."
In countries and eras with population growth, kids were casually born, fed whatever, sent out to work, and made to bring money home.
Japan should go back to that.

If we can't do that, there's nothing to be done about the low birth rate.
    Give up.
    121AnonymousSep 10, 2026 17:11
    Re: #116
Can you really treat kids that way at this point?
    I can't.
While paying lip service to human rights, they went way too far with the whip-cracking approach in the workplace, I guess.
Nobody believes what the government or pundits say anymore anyway.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

On the low-birthrate issue, the government has rolled out multiple measures over the years — expanded child allowances, free childcare, and more — but none have stopped the birth rate’s downward slide. Hiroyuki’s post touches on this backdrop, but without addressing concrete funding sources or policy design, prompting a widespread reaction of “hard to disagree with in the abstract, but there’s no actual plan here.” The thread split along a familiar fault line in low-birthrate debates: those who blame women’s workforce participation versus those who blame the poor job market, low wages, and the lingering damage from the employment ice age. It’s also worth noting that some countries with reportedly high birth rates owe part of that figure to immigrant inflows boosting the statistics, so simple international comparisons can be misleading about what’s really going on.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Breaking News+) thread “Hiroyuki talks about a ‘breakthrough’ to rebuild Japan’s economy — ‘nobody would deny it’ — so what’s the method? ‘Let’s have more Japanese kids’.”

  • ‘Wednesday Downtown’ to Go on Hiatus for 3 Straight Weeks — 5ch: “The Asian Games Are Boring as Hell”

During its September 9 broadcast, “Wednesday Downtown” announced near the end of the show that it would go on hiatus for three weeks starting next Wednesday the 16th, as TBS prioritizes coverage of the Asian Games, with the next episode airing October 7. On the thread, reactions focused less on the hiatus itself and more on debates over how to rank the Asian Games (comments like “it’s basically the Asian version of the Olympics” or “the competition level is low”), nostalgic looks back at the show’s classic segments, and pointed observations about the gap between broadcast ratings and streaming view counts.

    September 10, 2026, 10:31 AM

The TBS variety show “Wednesday Downtown” (airing at 10 PM) broadcast its latest episode on the 9th. At the end of the show, it was announced that the next episode would air on October 7.

This episode featured two segments: “Theory: If you walk toward Shikoku picking up dropped receipts along the way, you could turn those receipts into a white pilgrim’s robe and complete the Shikoku pilgrimage circuit” and “Theory: There are actually quite a few things that instantly disappear the moment a single old man collapses.” At the end of the broadcast, the narrator announced, “Starting next Wednesday, TBS will be broadcasting the Asian Games for three weeks,” with an on-screen caption reading “Next episode: 10/7 (Wed).” The show will be on hiatus on September 16, 23, and 30. For the October 7 episode, two segments were previewed: “Instant Elimination If Your Identity Is Exposed! Masked Man Journey” and “Sneak the Answer to the Question Playing Behind Your Junior Coworker into a Scolding! Buzzer Scolding Quiz.”

    Re: #81
It's the same story with other sports too — just watching is boring on its own. It's the commentary, the analysis, and the fact that they're representing their country that actually makes it exciting

    Background and Key Points

The Asian Games is a multi-sport event held once every four years, two years after each Olympics, and terrestrial primetime broadcast slots for it are limited. This time, TBS is bumping its flagship variety show for a full three weeks just to secure air time for the coverage, which shows how high a priority the network is placing on it. What actually sparked the most discussion on the thread wasn’t the coverage itself, but the observation that “ratings are low, yet it’s always near the top on TVer” — a comment that captures the broader recent trend of broadcast ratings and streaming view counts pulling apart. It’s also worth noting, for context on how hard some athletes compete, that in South Korea a gold medal at the Asian Games can earn athletes exemption from mandatory military service — a system not widely known in Japan, and one that shapes how fiercely certain competitors fight for the win. As for the show itself, opinions on this episode were split between “that was fun” and “this one was kind of a letdown,” with viewers seeming more concerned about the show’s segments feeling repetitive than about the hiatus announcement itself.

  • Short Sleeper Daisuke Hori, Who Claims Just 30 Minutes of Sleep a Day for 17 Years, Caught Sleeping Soundly for 29 Minutes During a Massage

Daisuke Hori, who built his popular YouTube channel on the claim that he’s slept only 30 minutes a day for 17 years, is making waves on 5channel after he snored and fell into a deep sleep during a collaboration stream with a massage therapist — taking roughly 29 minutes to wake up. Viewers also noticed that the stream was paused while he was asleep, and that the camera angle and screen layout had changed once it resumed. Could it be that BCAAs or EAAs are keeping his parasympathetic nervous system from kicking in?

    Background and Talking Points

Daisuke Hori built a YouTube following racking up millions of views on videos centered around his claim of sleeping only 30 minutes a day for 17 years, and this massage-therapist collaboration was part of that same ongoing demonstration series. Medically, there are documented cases of “short sleepers” who stay healthy on very little sleep, but most such reports lack backing from research institutions using tools like EEG monitoring and rest on self-reporting alone. The sticking point in the thread was that Hori has previously offered his own idiosyncratic standards for what counts — claiming that snoring he was “aware of” doesn’t count, or that passing out is “safe” — leaving viewers deeply skeptical of the very definition of “sleep” he’s using. The fact that the stream was paused while he dozed off, and that the camera position and screen layout had changed by the time it resumed, has only fueled suspicions of staging or editing.

  • Okoe Momoka Pleads: “Stop Digging Up My Brother’s Past”

Basketball player Okoe Momoka updated her X (Twitter) account on September 10, sharing her feelings as a family member about the media coverage of her brother, former Yomiuri Giants player Okoe Rui: “Please stop digging up the past over and over, writing speculative articles, and chasing him around.” Rui had been playing for a club in Mexico in recent years, but reports say he was released by that team around May of this year, and his current affiliation and whereabouts remain unclear. Reactions on 5ch were split, with some questioning the way he’s being covered and others saying that, given his past conduct, being reported on is unavoidable.

Basketball player Okoe Momoka (27) updated her X account on the 10th, sharing her thoughts on the coverage of her brother, former Giants player Okoe Rui (29).

Momoka opened with, “There’s one thing I’d like to say, just once, as a family member, about my brother,” noting that up to now, “truly so many articles have been written” about him.

Apparently he moved to a different team in May and got fired there too.

Background and key points of this story

Okoe Rui joined the Yomiuri Giants in 2016, and in recent years had shifted his career to a club team in Mexico. As the 5ch reactions note, there are reports that he was released from his contract shortly after moving to a different team around May of this year, leaving his standing as a player unsettled. In the thread, a defense of the coverage (“digging up the past is normal for reporting”) and a sympathetic view (“the family is speaking out of worry — why pile on?”) are roughly evenly matched, making this a case that doesn’t reduce to simple right and wrong. Note that many details about what specific trouble Rui got into circulate in the thread only as hearsay or unconfirmed information, so this article has omitted comments touching on unverified allegations about a named individual. One point readers could easily misread: Momoka’s post is strictly a protest against “the repeated rehashing of past coverage” — it is not an official statement on whether Rui remains active or has retired.

  • Daisuke Hori Claims His 30-Minute Nap During a Livestream Was Just a “Microsleep”

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Daisuke Hori is known as a “short sleeper” who claims to sleep just 30 minutes a day, and he reportedly runs courses teaching others the same sleep method. According to the thread, he previously made headlines for allegedly losing his entire fortune in FX trading, and suspicions arose that he actually sleeps far longer than he claims — prompting him to keep livestreaming to prove otherwise. This time, the stream caught him dozing off on camera, and his attempt to wave it away as a “microsleep” sparked debate. Commenters were split between those who find it purely entertaining and those who argue that, since he profits from his courses, his honesty should be held to a higher standard — making this more than just a joke at his expense.

Reactions in the thread were split over the content of this Nindai, which closed out with Kirby as its headline title — some agreed with the VTuber’s take, while a notable number of posters pushed back by pointing to new titles like Fire Emblem and Metroid, asking “are you just not seeing these?” Several also noted that the VTuber seemed to be conflating the terms “remaster” and “remake.”

Basically, there were just a lot of games shown overall.
And when there's a lot, of course you'll get retro game collections, remakes, and even some "new" games that are really just sequels to existing IPs.
That's just a reflection of the kinds of games each publisher wants to put out, so overall you could say Nindai is a conservative platform — one that takes care of long-time gamers.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

For context, Nintendo Direct (commonly known as “Nindai”) has always been a broadcast slot covering a wide lineup that includes new titles, ports, and remasters, and arguments over the “ratio of new games” have flared up repeatedly on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board with every installment. This thread was notable in that several posts conflated the terms “remaster,” “remake,” and “port,” with the discussion proceeding despite the mismatched definitions. The controversy appears to have started from a clipped stream excerpt, and some posters questioned whether the VTuber in question actually watches Nindai regularly. Note that some replies — including ones that rebutted the claim by listing out monthly lineups — contained discriminatory language and have been excluded from this article.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and summaries of the 5ch (Hardware/Industry, aka “Geha”) thread “[Sad News] A VTuber Makes a Dead-On Point: “Nindai Can’t Compete With New Games — It’s All Remasters”.”

  • Bicycle overtaking rule sparks a rise in traffic violations, so Tokyo plans to repaint yellow lines white — 5ch: “Doesn’t fix the real problem, the roads are just too narrow”

Following an April 2026 revision to Japan’s Road Traffic Act requiring cars to keep a set distance when overtaking bicycles, reports have revealed that a separate wave of traffic violations is popping up nationwide, as drivers cross the no-crossing yellow center line in order to keep that distance. In response, the Metropolitan Police Department has decided to repaint roughly half of Tokyo’s yellow center lines as white lines. On 5ch, opinions split over whether this is the right call: some argued it would be far cheaper to instead amend the law to allow crossing the line specifically when overtaking a bicycle; others questioned why the yellow line — originally meant to ensure safety from oncoming traffic — should be touched at all; and still others pointed out that the root cause was pushing bicycles onto the road to begin with.

Investigative reporting by Spotlight has revealed that, alongside this April’s revision to the Road Traffic Act establishing rules for cars overtaking bicycles, a separate traffic violation has emerged: cars crossing the no-crossing yellow center line in order to keep their distance from bicycles.

Following this report, it has newly come to light that the Metropolitan Police Department plans to repaint roughly half of the yellow center lines in Tokyo as “white lines.”

To avoid ever admitting that the first stupid decision (forcing bikes onto the road) was stupid,
they just keep spiraling further into nonsense.
Classic case of Japan's higher-ups never admitting fault.

    24AnonymousSep 10, 2026 15:41
    Re: #5
I think they did consider it — where it looks safe enough it becomes a white line, and where it doesn't it stays a bike lane instead.
Still, this doesn't solve the actual problem: the roads are just too narrow.

They should just add an exception: crossing the yellow line is OK when overtaking a bicycle.

That actually sounds like the cheap, realistic option.
I get that plenty of cyclists ride smoothly, but you also get guys stubbornly hogging a whole lane on a main road, wobbling their butt around — that's just not it.

Even banning bikes from sidewalks could've been done cleanly with a Tokyo-only ordinance restricting it to urban areas.
This is basically a Tokyo-only problem, so of course things get weird when you change the rules nationwide.

    This is necessary.
If everyone seriously obeyed the no-crossing-yellow-line rule, you'd get massive jams stacking up behind bicycles
and the whole country would turn into northwest Chiba.
Though the real gridlock in northwest Chiba is even worse — a bike would get there twice as fast.

Cars are the ones that should be restricted. The quickest fix is eliminating one lane to free up space. Add more one-way streets. Fundamentally, widening the roads themselves would be best.
    219AnonymousSep 10, 2026 16:18
    Re: #209
That sounds like a solid idea too.
There are tons of roads where even two-way traffic is barely workable
but that still haven't been made one-way.

Background and key points of this debate

Yellow center lines ban crossing for safety reasons in sections with poor visibility of oncoming traffic — they were never drawn with cyclists in mind to begin with. This measure only repaints lines in sections judged to carry little risk even if crossed while overtaking a bicycle; it’s easy to miss that not all of Tokyo’s roads are affected. The thread split over whether repainting the roads or instead writing a legal exception allowing drivers to cross the line specifically when overtaking a bicycle is the smarter fix. Many argued the latter would be cheaper, while others worried that even after repainting, some sections would still carry a head-on collision risk. Underlying it all is a broader disagreement over whether bicycles belong on the road at all — and either way, this measure alone doesn’t solve the fundamental problem of Japan’s narrow roads.

Dodgers pitcher/DH Shohei Ohtani was placed on the injured list (IL) on the 9th (10th Japan time) — his first IL stint since September 2023. After striking out in four straight at-bats against the Cardinals on September 2nd, he sat out four games before returning to the lineup on the 7th, but his form still hadn’t come back, prompting manager Dave Roberts to explain that they wanted to “use these 15 days to reset his body once.” On 5channel threads, speculation ran wild over the cause of his slump this season and how he’ll be used going forward, with the discussion spilling over into debate about the future of his two-way career.

Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani (32) is headed to the injured list (IL) for the first time since September 2023. Manager Dave Roberts revealed the news after the game, saying, “We’re putting Shohei on the IL. We want to use the 15 days to reset his body once and get his form back up.”

In the September 2nd game against the Cardinals (3rd Japan time), he struck out in four straight at-bats starting from his third plate appearance. He then sat out the next four games in a row. He returned to the starting lineup on the 7th, but with no improvement in his form, he was placed on the IL.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In Major League Baseball, a trip to the injured list (IL) requires a minimum 15-day stint, letting a team pull an injured player off the active roster and bring in a replacement. As manager Roberts explained, Ohtani has been struggling lately — striking out in four straight at-bats on September 2nd, missing four games, and returning on the 7th only to still be off his game — so this looks less like a specific injury and more like an attempt to reset his form. On the threads, reactions ranged widely: criticism over why the team didn’t decide to rest him sooner, speculation that his participation in this year’s WBC may have played a role, and even arguments that he should give up on the two-way experiment and focus solely on hitting. There were also baseless posts insinuating drug use, which have been excluded from this article. One point worth clarifying, since it’s easy to misread: going on the IL doesn’t automatically mean his season is over — rather, it’s being framed as a tune-up at this late stage of the regular season, ahead of the postseason.

※This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5channel (Geinou/Sports Express+) thread ‘[Baseball] Shohei Ohtani placed on the injured list for the first time in 3 years, since September 2023 — Manager Roberts: ‘We’ll use the 15 days to reset his body once’‘.

  • PTA Disbanded, So Field Trips and Sports Days Get Cancelled — 5ch: ‘You Need Lookouts, No Question’

A post on 5ch’s “Anything Goes Live” board sparked discussion after claiming that schools which disbanded their PTA saw field trips and sports days cancelled one after another. Commenters pointed out that PTA membership dues had funded things like tent setup for sports day and adult supervision on field trips, so once the PTA was gone, both the budget and the manpower disappeared, making the events impossible to keep running. Others argued that school events should be run by teachers alone, or that schools could simply switch to paying outside contractors. Opinion split between resentment over unpaid labor and acceptance of scaled-back events.

And if you turn them down, they blow up with 'don't you feel sorry for the kid?'

    Re: #97
Wonder what would happen if you said back, 'Don't you feel sorry for a kid being raised by a parent who won't even pay PTA dues?'

    There's no way I could say that…
Too many weird people out there, you don't know what they'd do
    Including to your own kid

    Background and Key Issues

The PTA is technically a voluntary association for parents and teachers, but in practice most schools treat participation as mandatory for everyone. In recent years, a growing number of schools have moved to disband it or make membership optional, citing the heavy burden involved. The thread’s central issue was that PTA dues — kept separate from the school budget — had been funding things like tent setup for sports day and supervisory staff for field trips; once the PTA was disbanded, both that funding and that manpower vanished at the same time. Some argued the school could simply pay outside staff using its own budget, but no one worked out where that money would actually come from. Whether this scaling-back of events is a nationwide trend or just varies school by school isn’t something this thread’s discussion alone can settle.

  • Romancing SaGa 3 Remake Sparks Reactions — 5ch: ‘All I Remember About Minstrel Song Is the Yamazaki Masayoshi Opening’

The announcement of a remake for “Romancing SaGa 3” got longtime series fans fired up on a 5ch (Livedoor VIP) thread. Topics included the strong reputation of the previously released “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” and reports that the producer had shown enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well after 2’s remake launched. On the other hand, opinions on the character graphics were split — some said “the flat, same-looking faces bug me,” others felt “Harid’s design lacks any edge” — and fans traded views on the remake business model itself.

    Remake 1 too 😡

(´・ω・`) All I remember about Minstrel Song (the SaGa 1 remake) is the Yamazaki Masayoshi opening song

デンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレデンデデッデデレ (mimicking the opening theme's melody)
    ヘエーエ エーエエエー
    エーエエー ウーウォーオオオォー
    ララララ ラァーアーアーアー
there's also that one, you know

I've never played Romancing SaGa — is it any good?

    Re: #12
The Romancing SaGa 2 remake is seriously worth recommending
    17AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:32
    Re: #12
It's a systems-heavy game, so it depends if that's your thing
That said, Minstrel Song (the Romancing SaGa 1 remake) is probably too complex a system for a SaGa newcomer, and while the latest one, SaGa Emerald Beyond, has genuinely fun battles, it's too battle-focused as a whole game. So the Romancing SaGa 2 remake still feels like the perfect entry point into SaGa.
    16AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:32
Remakes are nice and all, but please put out a brand-new SaGa game — one with an actual field you can walk around on and dungeons you can explore.

    Re: #16
After the 2 remake came out, the producer said he wants to put out a 3 remake too, and more after that, so something's probably already in motion
Kawazu also said something a few years back about wanting to do Romancing SaGa 4 too, right?
    19AnonymousSep 10, 2026 07:33
It'd be so exciting if we get to see the snowman fairy Boston rendered in Revenge of the Seven's graphics

You can see the snowman and the fairy in the PV (trailer)

I couldn't get attached to the characters

    Same here
The flat, same-looking faces bug me
    Those guys look like androids

    The Boy too…
I heard Sara's the only one who can recruit the Boy, so I picked Sara — and then he leaves the party right before the final boss… why…

    Enough with the remakes already
How long do they plan on making us play games from the early Heisei era?

You don't actually have to play it, you know?

Though I do quite like Harid
    86AnonymousSep 10, 2026 10:14

Honestly, I thought Harid's design was really bad
It's got zero rugged charm at all
    67AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:03
In the 2 remake the Seven Heroes teamed up on you, but in 3 everyone fights solo, so that's a relief
    69AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:05
    Re: #67
    Hard to say

If you leave four of them alive in the Abyss, the final boss changes form, so being a remake, they'll probably do something with that
    70AnonymousSep 10, 2026 09:14

That should be a sword in the trunk, not a shield

    Background and Talking Points

Two main talking points emerged from this thread. The first was the merits of remakes themselves: comments like “how long do they plan on making us play old games?” drew pushback like “you don’t have to buy it if you don’t want to” and “then don’t play it” — a back-and-forth that laid bare the split over the remake business model itself. The second was how fans are receiving the character designs: when turning Super Famicom-era pixel-art characters into 3D models, opinions differ on how well the results balance faithfulness to the originals. Some were harshly critical — “the flat, same-looking faces bug me” — while others were delighted by faithful little details, like the snowman fairy Boston. The thread also touched on reports that, after the release of the second remake, “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven,” the producer expressed enthusiasm for remaking 3 and 4 as well, fueling hopes for the series’ continued expansion. Note: the terms “Seven Heroes” and “Four Fiend Lords” mentioned in the thread refer to the enemy factions appearing in Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 respectively — worth flagging for readers unfamiliar with the series.
