  • Matsumoto Hitoshi to Undergo Second Surgery, Will Miss September 19 ‘DOWNTOWN+’ Livestream

Downtown’s Matsumoto Hitoshi is set to undergo another surgery to reverse his colostomy, and it has been announced he will skip the September 19 livestream of “Comedy Empire University (OIU)” on the streaming service “DOWNTOWN+.” The service’s operators have issued a statement asking members for their understanding. On 5ch, comments focused on how many times now he’s missed the once-a-month livestream, along with cynical remarks about stagnant concurrent-viewer and subscriber numbers, and questions about why the surgery timing overlapped with the streaming schedule.

Just because he can't appear on network TV doesn't mean he needed to launch some massive platform lol, YouTube would've been fine.
Yoshimoto [his talent agency] got saddled with wasted money too. Actually, looking back, the Bunshun scandal might've been the perfect excuse to retire and rest.

I used to watch, but lately it's nothing but griping about network TV. And despite supposedly having deep pockets, when Sisonne's Hasegawa asked him, 'Come on, do a comedy skit,' Matsumoto pulled a sour face and made excuses like 'skits cost money' lol

    Meanwhile, actress Nakamura Yuri…
Really makes you feel the cruelty of the world all over again. (a bitter contrast drawn with another entertainer's harder fate)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“DOWNTOWN+” is the paid streaming service Matsumoto Hitoshi launched as a substitute for his absence from network television; when it first began, its large subscriber count made headlines, but in this thread the comments mainly pointed out how low the concurrent-viewer numbers are. Following the Shukan Bunshun magazine’s reports, Matsumoto suspended his activities, later underwent colorectal surgery and had a colostomy performed, and resumed streaming afterward — this latest surgery appears to be aimed at reversing that colostomy. The thread was split over whether the overlap between the surgery date and the streaming schedule was an “excuse” or simply an “unavoidable scheduling issue” dictated by the doctor’s availability — something that can’t be determined from the article alone. It should also be noted that no concrete figures for subscriber or concurrent-viewer counts appear in the article itself; the numbers discussed in the thread are purely speculation.

  • Taigawa Yosuke’s ‘Bus Trip’ Returns After 8 Months — Viewers Slam His ‘Irritable Attitude’

Taigawa Yosuke’s conduct on the September 12 broadcast of the TV Tokyo variety show “Tag on the Local Bus! ~Escape From Bus Trip Master Taigawa~ Ibaraki Gourmet Battle Special,” his first appearance in the series in eight months, became a hot topic on social media. The long-running series has been known for its odd-couple duo of Taigawa and Ebisu Yoshinori, but with Ebisu absent from recent location shoots, viewers have increasingly pointed out that Taigawa seems “irritable” in how he treats general participants and fellow cast members. On 5channel, opinions split between those who say Taigawa’s temperament has been this way since Ebisu was still on the show, and those who think his rougher, unfiltered side has become more noticeable now that Ebisu isn’t there to soften things — with debate also flaring over who should take over Ebisu’s “tell-it-like-it-is” role.

Makes me wonder if that's what Jiro Sato's attitude toward Ai Hashimoto was like lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Since the “Bus Trip” series began airing in 2007, its signature draw has been the mismatched duo of Taigawa Yosuke and Ebisu Yoshinori. In recent years, however, Ebisu’s appearances have decreased due to his age and health, and the show has continued with other co-stars such as Kusanagi and Murashige. On the thread, opinions were split between those who say Taigawa’s irritable attitude is nothing new and was already his defining trait when Ebisu was still on the show, and those who believe his unfiltered harshness has become more noticeable now that he’s lost Ebisu as a “buffer” — the article alone doesn’t settle which reading reflects the actual change. It’s also worth noting that the “domineering husband”-style anecdotes about Taigawa’s private life are stories he himself has shared on TV in the past, and there’s no evidence directly tying them to this recent irritability report.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5channel (Geinou/Sports News+) thread “[Entertainment] Taigawa Yosuke: “Bus Trip” Returns After 8 Months, But Some Viewers Call Out His Irritable Attitude… “One-Man Show” Tendencies Intensify Without Partner Ebisu Yoshinori.”

After the broadcast, footage from the Engeki Joshibu (Theatrical Girls’ Club) stage play “Nemureru Mori no Beyo” (“Sleeping Beauty Beyo”) aired continuously starting at 21:45. On the live-reaction thread, viewers traded comments like “Rooting for her, but it’s painful to watch” and “Well, since it’s on, guess I’ll watch it,” and things livened up with classic live-thread banter — debating the fairness of the former boss character who drives the protagonist to the brink, and joking about barely making a recording in time using Unagi (a TV recording-reservation tool).

    Background and Talking Points

“Ganbatte, Ganbaranai” is a 56-minute human drama produced in 2026, part of a Nihon Eiga Senmon ch programming slot featuring Hello! Project talent. A post in the thread asking “Is this the last rerun?” suggests some viewers sensed this broadcast might be their final chance to catch it. Opinions were split on the portrayal of the former boss who drives the protagonist to the brink, with comments ranging from “she doesn’t seem like that bad of a boss” to “I can imagine I might’ve been that type too” — rather than being consumed as a simple villain, she came across as someone uncomfortably relatable. The broadcast was structured to lead into BEYOOOOONDS’ stage play “Nemureru Mori no Beyo” starting at 21:45, and with live comments about barely making the recording in time using Unagi, the episode offered a glimpse into the viewing habits of fans who tune into this niche late-night channel slot.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “■ BEYOOOOONDS ■ Engeki Joshibu “Nemureru Mori no Beyo” ■ 21:45-24:20 Nihon Eiga Senmon ch (BS255ch) ■“.

  • The Blue Hearts’ ‘Strongest Song’ Poll: ‘Blue Sky’ Narrowly Leads

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyō G” board asked posters to each name their favorite Blue Hearts song to crown the ultimate best track. Titles like “Tsuki no Bakugekiki” (“Bomber of the Moon”), “Shōnen no Uta” (“Boy’s Poem”), and “Navigator” poured in one after another, though the thread repeatedly had to correct posts whose lyrics or titles actually turned out to be from The High-Lows or The Cro-Magnons instead. The thread starter kept a running tally, and by the late stages it came down to a tight race between “Aozora” (“Blue Sky”) with 8 votes and “Sen no Violin” (“A Thousand Violins”) with 6. The conversation also drifted into side topics like frustration over the band’s music still not being on streaming services and opinions on The Cro-Magnons’ sound.

    Re: #98
Never heard of that song, so I'm not sure

    Background and Key Points

The Blue Hearts formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1995. After the breakup, vocalist Hiroto Komoto and guitarist Masatoshi Mashima (“Marcy”) went on to form THE HIGH-LOWS, and later THE CRO-MAGNONS. This is why the thread repeatedly saw corrections like “that’s actually The High-Lows” and “that one’s The High-Lows too” — a sign of how easily songs from the three bands blend together in fans’ memories. The Blue Hearts’ music has also long been unavailable on major streaming services, which likely explains the post about buying a CD-ripping device just to get their songs onto an iPhone. While one poster suggested The Cro-Magnons seem to “avoid writing songs that really hit you,” no clear consensus was reached — it remained just one person’s take.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (“Nandemo Jikkyō G”) thread “I’m deciding the ultimate Blue Hearts song, so name your favorite one 😳“.

  • 3 in 10 Young People Say They ‘Don’t Plan to Marry’ — Hiromi Says Both ‘Government Action’ and ‘Personal Effort’ Are Needed

A survey by Japan’s Children and Families Agency found that 35.1% of unmarried people aged 15–39 said they “don’t plan to marry.” In a separate survey, 64.7% of unmarried women and 60.7% of unmarried men said they “don’t want children.” On an information program covering these results, TV personality Hiromi said the government “absolutely has to take countermeasures,” while adding that “beyond that, it’s up to each individual.” On 5ch, the remark sparked a debate split between those pointing to financial problems and those citing the burden of family environment and relationships, with users arguing over just how much government policy can actually solve.

    9/15 (Tue) 11:05

On the September 15 broadcast of Nippon TV’s morning show “DayDay.” (weekdays, 9:00 AM), the program covered survey results showing that 35.1% of young people (43,529 unmarried respondents aged 15–39) surveyed by the Children and Families Agency said they “don’t plan to marry,” while a separate survey found that 64.7% of unmarried women and 60.7% of unmarried men said they “don’t want children in the future.”

After watching footage of young people citing financial anxiety and other reasons, commentator and TV personality Hiromi speculated: “Given the state of things right now, I get why people like this — who have no intention of marrying — are showing up… But if they had a partner, they’d probably want to get married, I’d guess.”

Yankee types are basically wild animals — they'll spread their seed the second they get the chance.

Modern people run risk assessments and cost-benefit calculations on marriage.
Compared to the ease of living alone, the stress and risk of living with someone else feels scary.

There's less social pressure to marry than there used to be, and the media and social media bash "Japan is finished" so hard that having kids almost feels like abuse.

Maybe it's the kind, considerate people who end up avoiding marriage.
Meanwhile the delinquent types just keep multiplying, and the country turns into a "land of carnage" (a nod to the documentary about Kitakyushu delinquents nicknamed "Shura no Kuni").

There was a talk about how, out of a 100-year life, it's unreasonable by the laws of nature to spend the rest of it with someone you just happened to fall for during two or three years in your twenties.

The conclusion was: "It only works if you pile patience on patience, endurance on endurance, give up your freedom, and give up a lot of your wealth — money, time, peace of mind, all of it."

They also said your happiness index tanks the moment you're supporting a jobless partner, like a stay-at-home wife.
It's true that after about 10 years, most married couples have lost the love between them.
Maybe a life of gritting your teeth, staying irritated, and living together forever really is the unhappiest kind of life there is.

Today this old fart had drinks with an acquaintance in his 80s, and marriage came up.
Then and now, marriage is something you can't pull off without making up your mind to take the plunge.
Back then it was easier to take that plunge, since everyone got married — it was a universal-marriage kind of society.
But even with all that social pressure pushing them along, plenty of couples still didn't work out — so you could say people today are actually thinking about relationships more seriously.

My takeaway from talking with my 80-something acquaintance today is that people these days just don't try to form deep relationships with others.
Marriage isn't going to work unless you seriously commit to facing another person.
Maybe something more like the Heian-era nobility's "commuting marriage" — where husband and wife lived apart and he just visited — would actually suit modern people better.

In this day and age, there's no way you can force people into marriage and child-rearing.
That said, if there are no kids, the country dies out.
So what do you do? Give single people the right to live freely at their own pace — in exchange for paying noticeably higher taxes.
Then give married, child-raising households serious, thorough preferential treatment.
    That's really the only way.
The idea being: let's raise our precious children as a whole nation, and hopefully that leads to more marriages — and in turn, more kids.
    119AnonymousSep 15, 2026 21:42
    Re: #114
Married people are the ones who get protected by society, right?
It's single people who are the real independent adults.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This figure comes from a Children and Families Agency survey of 43,529 unmarried people aged 15–39, of whom 35.1% said they “don’t plan to marry.” The share who don’t want children (64.7% of unmarried women, 60.7% of unmarried men) comes from a separate survey with a different sample and different questions, so the two figures shouldn’t simply be added together. On the thread, opinions split between those citing money problems and those citing family environment or a general aversion to the burden of living with another person — with some pointing to South Korea, where even ethnic Koreans living abroad have low birth rates, as evidence that “government policy alone won’t fix this.” Meanwhile, the more extreme proposals — like taxing single people more heavily or effectively forcing marriage — mostly played out as irony, praising taxes and conscription as being “for the good of the country,” more satire than genuine policy proposals.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Express+) thread “Hiromi speaks candidly on survey showing 3 in 10 young people “don’t plan to marry”: “The government absolutely has to take countermeasures,” “but beyond that, it’s up to each individual”.”

  • Giants Swept 3 Straight by DeNA, Games-Above-.500 Cushion Falls to 11 — Emergency Team Meeting Called After the Game

On September 15, 2026, the final game of the three-game Giants–DeNA series at Yokohama Stadium ended in a lopsided 2-13 loss, completing a three-game sweep by DeNA and dropping the Giants’ cushion above .500 to 11 wins. Starter Shosei Togo was knocked out before completing two innings, allowing 9 runs (5 earned), and reports say the coaching staff and players held an emergency team meeting after the game. On 5ch, fans expressed dismay at how a promising start — sparked by Hirayama’s leadoff home run — completely fell apart, debated the view that the pennant race has now narrowed to a two-team fight between the Hanshin Tigers and DeNA, and speculated over which team the Climax Series special rule would end up applying to.

[Shinya Miyamoto] Giants' 'Bad Atmosphere' Made Worse as Key Players Izumiguchi and Togo Pour Fuel on the Fire… Time to Play with Self-Awareness
    https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/faa47bb75f5e69b618d8416a29d0f3cb65fe9bb7

In the 2nd inning, Izumiguchi made an error and Togo gave up three home runs. Izumiguchi, the team's No. 3 hitter and shortstop, is a player who should be a pillar on both offense and defense. Togo has had his rough patches too, but he's a pitcher once called the team's ace.

Since this is a competitive sport, things won't always go well. Even so, you shouldn't let the team's atmosphere sour — and when there already is a bad atmosphere, you should be the one to cut it off. Think about the worst-case scenario and make it a habit to play in a way that avoids it at all costs. Don't keep repeating plays you know you shouldn't make. It's not easy. But a player who's supposed to be a pillar of the team needs to carry that awareness and play in a way that lifts the team's momentum. That goes doubly for a core player on a team fighting for the pennant — and it's exactly that kind of play that leads a team to a championship. I know this comes across harsh, but I hope it can serve as a spark for them to turn things around. (Nikkan Sports columnist)

Right off the bat, Hirayama's leadoff home run off DeNA's Azuma put the Giants ahead. After the bad run the day before, the mood must have shifted to 'today we can do this.' Matsumoto followed with a double, and they had the momentum building.

What killed it right there was the No. 3 hitter, Izumiguchi. On a 3-ball count he swung at a fastball just off the middle of the plate and flied out to third. Personally, I think it's fine for a cleanup-caliber hitter to swing on a 3-ball count — especially with a runner in scoring position.

    The Carp, again? lol

Background and Key Points of Discussion

The Giants had maintained a healthy cushion above .500 for most of the season, but a three-game sweep at the hands of DeNA has pulled that margin down to 11, narrowing the gap with second-place DeNA to just 5 games. Starter Shosei Togo was tagged for a career-worst 9 runs in just 2 innings, and with Taiga Funasako pitching in three straight games, fatigue in the bullpen is starting to show. The emergency team meeting held after the game is believed to be an effort by the coaching staff to convey a sense of urgency, though its contents haven’t been disclosed. On the thread, users cited a column by Nikkan Sports commentator Shinya Miyamoto, who argued that the momentum built by Hirayama’s leadoff home run was killed off by a weak at-bat from No. 3 hitter Izumiguchi, sparking criticism of the attitude of the team’s core hitters. Opinions were split between those who believe the pennant race has already become a two-way fight between Hanshin and Yokohama, and those still holding out hope for a Climax Series berth or a come-from-behind title.

    Background and points of debate

“Miyo-chan’s Engawa” is a regular Hello! Project radio show, and since this episode was the finale, Miyo Hirai is thought to have opened up more personally than usual. BEYOOOOONDS has a culture that places weight on “nenji” (seniority ranking within the group based on join date), and Hirai is on the earlier-joining, senior side. The thread’s disagreement centered on whether to see Hirai, a senior member, being spoiled by junior member “Hana” as heartwarming, or as underwhelming for someone “not carrying her seniority,” with comparisons drawn to other members like Fukumura Mizuki. Meanwhile, theories floated in the thread — such as the idea that “Hana has a thing for fair-skinned members” — are just speculation from posters, not something Hana herself has confirmed, and should be read with that caveat.

*This article is composed as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Miyo Hirai: “Miimi’s ‘Mii, mou ii mon~’ has long since been found out by Hanamano Yuna, and Hana spoils me like crazy for it”.”

  • Okinawa’s ‘JUNGLIA’ Theme Park Walks a Financial Tightrope, Could Run Out of Cash as Soon as October

Okinawa’s theme park “JUNGLIA Okinawa” has reportedly been struggling with cash flow since shortly after passing its first anniversary on July 25, 2026, with Nikkei reporting it could run out of funds as early as the first week of October. The park’s opening reportedly involved investment from the Cool Japan Fund, and banks from outside Okinawa Prefecture are said to have joined the lending syndicate as well. On 5ch, the discussion leaned more toward resignation and analysis than a clean for-or-against debate — with some arguing the banking syndicate can no longer cut its losses and is stuck, others pointing to the park’s poor access and lack of a strong IP, and a stream of sarcastic “here’s how to save it” suggestions.

    Background and Key Points

JUNGLIA is a privately-led theme park venture; the Cool Japan Fund reportedly joined as an investor at opening, and posters on 5ch note that the lending syndicate includes not just local banks but out-of-prefecture institutions like Kagoshima Bank. The thread split between two views: that “the banks should cut this loose as bad debt sooner rather than later,” versus the theory that “since out-of-prefecture banks did cross-border lending, pulling out now would lock in the loss, so the syndicate itself can’t get out” — though no factual confirmation of that latter claim showed up in the thread. One point readers can easily get wrong: JUNGLIA isn’t a public facility operated by Okinawa Prefecture — it’s fundamentally a private venture built on a scheme that combines public-institution investment with bank financing. Repeated gripes about access also came up, given the park’s location in Onna Village, far from Naha Airport and Nago, so the funding troubles are being discussed alongside concerns about drawing visitors in the first place.

  • First-Ever Naval Battle Between Unmanned Surface Vessels in the Black Sea — Ukraine Wins

On September 13, the first-ever naval battle between unmanned surface vessels took place in the Black Sea, and the Ukrainian Navy announced it had won by sinking a Russian unmanned surface vessel. Only the Ukrainian side’s vessel was armed with a machine gun — the Russian unmanned boat reportedly had no means of attack other than ramming — making it effectively a one-sided engagement. On 5ch’s science news board, comments ranged from “this is the war of the future” and “it’s like two RC toys fighting” to broader debate over whether this win can really be called control of the sea, and where a war increasingly led by unmanned systems is headed.

First-ever naval battle between unmanned surface vessels occurs in the Black Sea — Ukrainian Navy defeats Russian Navy

On September 13 (September 12, Ukraine time), the Ukrainian Navy announced that the first-ever naval battle in which both sides fielded unmanned surface vessels had taken place in the Black Sea, and that it had won by sinking a Russian unmanned surface vessel.

Since only the Ukrainian side’s unmanned surface vessel was armed with a machine gun, it turned into a one-sided gun battle (the Russian unmanned surface vessel had no means of attack other than ramming) — but even so, it marks a new page in the history of naval warfare worldwide.

The Javelins that held up the Russian tank battalions are American-made,

From here on, the countries that have spent years raising gamers for war are the ones who'll seize dominance
Once war becomes "a game where no soldiers ever die,"
the next targets become infrastructure and civilians — since you're not risking your own life, the cruelty will only get worse
And as always, by the time Japan notices, it'll already be years behind. As always

The whole point of war is seizing territory, territorial waters, airspace, resources, and labor,
so a fight between drones only amounts to burning through hardware

Can you really call it a win for Ukraine when it just wasted ammunition?

Ukraine has secured control of the Black Sea, which makes Russia's hold on Crimea meaningless

Old submarines carried deck guns too, and used them on targets that didn't warrant burning an expensive torpedo

Against something like an enemy surface drone boat, a machine gun is more than enough

This isn't really science news, is it.

Background and key points of this discussion

Since the war began, Ukraine is said to have repeatedly damaged Russian Black Sea Fleet vessels through unmanned surface vessel attacks, pushing the fleet back from Sevastopol to ports further east. This naval battle is an extension of that campaign, and what makes it “the first of its kind” is that both sides deployed unmanned vessels this time. Where opinions in the thread split was over whether this engagement can really be called “securing control of the sea”: some, like commenter #29, see the fleet’s retreat as a genuine achievement, while others, like #26 and #33, were skeptical that a war of attrition between drones carries any real strategic meaning. Questions also came up in #9 and #12 about how the unmanned vessels are actually piloted — in practice, many such craft are said to run on remote control under normal conditions and only switch to autonomous mode once communications are jammed, though the article alone doesn’t clarify which was the case here. Why the Russian unmanned vessel exploded also remains speculation per #12 and #14, and the details of its onboard equipment are unknown, so that’s worth keeping in mind.

  • Giants Concede Early Runs — 5ch Reacts: “We Sense an Iron Will to NOT Win the Pennant”

On September 15, 2026, the Central League’s Giants game saw an early lead slip away, and 5ch’s live-commentary thread lit up with sarcastic remarks like “You can sense Hanshin and the Giants’ iron resolve to absolutely never win the pennant.” The thread’s main focus was the chaotic scramble for the Central League’s final standings — the Giants’ shortage of reliable starting pitchers, a worn-out bullpen, and the possibility of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars climbing to 2nd place, since they still have five head-to-head games left against Hanshin. Opinions split on pitcher management, with some arguing the team should quickly write off lost causes and others favoring grinding it out.

Yokohama's still got 5 games left against Hanshin, so if they climb to 2nd, they'd probably go all the way to 1st

The BayStars are such an MLB-obsessed team that the regular-season pennant doesn't matter to them

    Re: #142
    No way that's true
Going this long without a pennant would be way too much of a joke
Besides, they've only actually won the CS once, two years ago

Background and Key Points of This Thread

By mid-September, the Central League has turned into a scramble among the teams already out of pennant contention, all fighting for 2nd and 3rd place and a shot at the Climax Series (CS) — and this thread reads more clearly in that light. The core of the discussion is that the Giants are entering the final stretch with a thin starting rotation (the names mentioned were basically just Inoue, Takemaru, and Ogasawara) and a worn-down bullpen, while Yokohama (DeNA) still has five head-to-head games left against Hanshin, fueling talk that they could climb to 2nd. Opinions split over managerial philosophy — whether to write off games early as lost causes, or grind it out the way manager Hara used to — a recurring debate around how the Giants handle their pitching staff. There’s also a passing reference to “the incident where the starting catcher suddenly vanished,” though the thread never spells out the details, so that remains unclear. On the whole, this was a thread less about the standings themselves and more about hunting for reasons why the team’s talent has fallen off so sharply.
