Okinawa’s ‘JUNGLIA’ Theme Park Walks a Financial Tightrope, Could Run Out of Cash as Soon as October

The story

Okinawa’s theme park “JUNGLIA Okinawa” has reportedly been struggling with cash flow since shortly after passing its first anniversary on July 25, 2026, with Nikkei reporting it could run out of funds as early as the first week of October. The park’s opening reportedly involved investment from the Cool Japan Fund, and banks from outside Okinawa Prefecture are said to have joined the lending syndicate as well. On 5ch, the discussion leaned more toward resignation and analysis than a clean for-or-against debate — with some arguing the banking syndicate can no longer cut its losses and is stuck, others pointing to the park’s poor access and lack of a strong IP, and a stream of sarcastic “here’s how to save it” suggestions.

It’s like one typhoon after another. This is about JUNGLIA Okinawa, the large-scale theme park in Okinawa Prefecture that marked its first anniversary on July 25, 2026. It may run out of funds as soon as the first week of October…

Honestly, you'd have more fun watching an Osaka night-view video channel on YouTube than watching Omiya Park's 'Peace-kun' livestream (a peacock mascot at a Saitama park known for its live camera feed).

Just turn it into Pokémon World and the problem's solved.

Re: #4
Pokémon's probably off the table, so how about Palworld instead?

Make 'Biwako' take responsibility (apparent nickname of an advisor) —
they only became an advisor about two months ago anyway.

Re: #8
The vice president acted like it had nothing to do with them, huh.

Let's do a Chiikawa collab and sell limited-edition merch 😉 (Chiikawa is a hugely popular cute-character franchise)

Re: #9
This 'limited edition merch' cash grab has really hit its peak, hasn't it.

Why not bring in that theme park turnaround master?
47AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:43
Re: #18
That theme park turnaround master is the guy who founded JUNGLIA in the first place.
73AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:48
Re: #47
It didn't work because it was a brand-new launch.
If it's a turnaround job, he could probably pull it off.

Re: #47
You don't get that they were saying that on purpose, lol.
20AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:38
Why did they even build this thing in Okinawa…
33AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:41
Re: #20
Because they're getting funding from the Cool Japan Fund.

Re: #33
Wait, it's a Cool Japan subsidy?

The banks should just cut it loose.
Let Koja sort it out.

Re: #27
Well, here's the thing — out-of-prefecture banks like Kagoshima Bank are doing cross-border lending on this.
If they cut it loose, the loss becomes locked in, so they can't.

Re: #27
It's Governor Tamaki's problem, so they'll just ignore it.
Besides, the US military isn't even mixed up in this one.

Turn it into One Piece Land
and just hand out some random limited-edition card as an entry bonus every month.

Re: #28
Don't turn it into something washed-up.
Shouldn't that be Demon Slayer or Chiikawa instead?
42AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:43
Sounds like even Jiro Shimpo has given up on it (a well-known TV commentator/journalist), so it might really be done for.

Re: #40
Cutting bad debt loose quickly is literally what banking is supposed to do.
52AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:45
Re: #45
Since they did cross-border lending from outside the prefecture, if they cut their losses now the bank president's head would roll, lol.

Bring in that legendary team that turned USJ around!

Re: #54
That's the thing — it IS them.

Re: #54
So, deploy Genta Ogami? (apparent reference to a fictional corporate-turnaround fixer)
113AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:52
A theme park without a famous IP just isn't going to make it.
124AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:53
Re: #113
That's not really true though —
Fuji-Q Highland is popular,
and that's stuck out in the middle of nowhere too.
125AnonymousSep 15, 2026 20:53
Re: #113
If they'd built a Nintendo Land it would've been a guaranteed win though.
194AnonymousSep 15, 2026 21:02
What people want from Okinawa is the ocean.
Churaumi Aquarium lets you see parts of Okinawa's sea you'd never normally see.
If it's JUNGLIA, they should do a mangrove-forest exploration adventure instead.
And let people spot things like the Okinawa rail while they're at it.
206AnonymousSep 15, 2026 21:03
Re: #194
Since nature is the main draw here,
you don't really need attractions, right?
218AnonymousSep 15, 2026 21:05
Re: #194
If you want to see the rail, go to Ishigaki.
The main island of Okinawa isn't even in the running.

Background and Key Points

JUNGLIA is a privately-led theme park venture; the Cool Japan Fund reportedly joined as an investor at opening, and posters on 5ch note that the lending syndicate includes not just local banks but out-of-prefecture institutions like Kagoshima Bank. The thread split between two views: that “the banks should cut this loose as bad debt sooner rather than later,” versus the theory that “since out-of-prefecture banks did cross-border lending, pulling out now would lock in the loss, so the syndicate itself can’t get out” — though no factual confirmation of that latter claim showed up in the thread. One point readers can easily get wrong: JUNGLIA isn’t a public facility operated by Okinawa Prefecture — it’s fundamentally a private venture built on a scheme that combines public-institution investment with bank financing. Repeated gripes about access also came up, given the park’s location in Onna Village, far from Naha Airport and Nago, so the funding troubles are being discussed alongside concerns about drawing visitors in the first place.
