    Background and Talking Points

“Live Anything General” is a chat-only board on 5ch that runs almost nonstop around the clock, with posters cycling in and out through the night and into the morning while continuously dropping new topics. In this thread too, a string of hard-to-verify topics circulated one after another, including a game’s Gundam collaboration announcement and an image claimed to show a new Hololive anime. It’s worth noting the anime news was backed only by a posted image, with no official announcement confirmed anywhere in the thread. Since each topic tends to get just a quick one-line reaction before the conversation moves on, these live threads rarely develop into deep discussion of any single subject — a pattern typical of this kind of thread.

  • Shohei Ohtani Returns to Starting Lineup as ‘2-Hole DH,’ Joins Team Photo Before Game

Shohei Ohtani returned to the starting lineup as the No. 2 hitter and DH in the September 23 (local time) game against the Padres, coming off a 15-day injured list stint for inflammation in his right biceps. He also took part in the team photo shoot before the game. On 5channel threads, the discussion centered on questions of fact: why he’s back batting second instead of his usual leadoff spot, speculation over whether the injury was really his biceps or actually his knee or neck, and theories that prospect De Paula — who’s being sent down to make room — is being lined up for a postseason-eligibility exception as an injury replacement.

    73AnonymousSep 24, 2026 09:05
The plan is to get De Paula onto the postseason roster as a replacement for Rushing (who's injured)

De Paula, who debuted in September, technically isn't eligible for the postseason roster,
but there's an exception: if a team applies to replace an injured player, he can be added.
If they option him down today and the request to replace Rushing gets approved afterward,
he'll be postseason-eligible from the very start. (Today is the perfect timing for it.)

The Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate is in its own postseason and has games going,
so De Paula will suit up as an outfielder there today.
With Ohtani's return cutting into his playing time anyway, this lets him keep playing in the minors and stay sharp
    — basically a two-birds-one-stone move.
    75AnonymousSep 24, 2026 09:07

    Re: #93
Guy can't hit for squat the moment there's a runner on base
If leadoff's out, 9th's the only spot that makes sense — go work on your defense

    Background and Key Points

Ohtani’s stint on the injured list this time was for inflammation in his right biceps; the “knee” and “neck” issues floated in the thread remain unsubstantiated speculation. Moving him down from his usual leadoff spot to second appears to reflect a modern lineup-construction philosophy that prioritizes getting on base and maximizing extra-base hits over small-ball tactics — more likely a strategic call by the coaching staff than something Ohtani requested himself. As for the discussion around prospect De Paula, MLB rules generally require a player to have been on the active roster by August 31 to be postseason-eligible, but there’s an exception allowing a late addition as a replacement for an injured player — so the theory that the team is timing this move to file that exception alongside Ohtani’s return has some real basis. With the Dodgers chasing 100 wins down the stretch, Ohtani’s return has drawn extra attention to both his batting order spot and how he’s being used.

  • Juice=Juice’s Budokan Live Video Overtakes ‘Hito Sore’ MV, Becomes Group’s 2nd Most-Viewed Ever

The YouTube view count for Juice=Juice’s Nippon Budokan live video ‘Moreru! Mi Amore’ (Concert 2025 Queen of Hearts Special Flush) has reached 10,961,856 views, surpassing the group’s previous second-place video, the ‘Hito Sore’ music video, which sits at 10,960,502 views. The narrow overtake sparked excitement among fans, with some calling it ‘the biggest viral moment in Hello! Their vocal skills are strong, so I'd think they'd actually get talked about on the day of the show.
Groups whose only selling point is numbers, on the other hand, peak the day the lineup gets announced and nobody's watching them by the actual broadcast.
Last year's two 'Kawa Lab' groups (idol units known for social-media buzz) are a good example of that.

Haven't checked the view-count ranking in a while, but aside from 'Moreru Mi,' the other top videos — 'Hito Sore,' 'Suki tte Itte yo,' 'Romance no Tochuu,' 'Bitansan' — have all been cut from the setlist for the fall tour.

'Hito Sore' was played at Hina Fes and on the spring tour,
'Suki tte Itte yo' is a cover but it was at Hina Fes,
'Bitansan' is in as a rotating song,
and 'Romance no Tochuu' — well, that one can't be helped, I guess.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Among Hello! Project groups in recent years, cumulative YouTube view counts have frequently become a topic of discussion among fans as a way to gauge a group’s ‘momentum.’ In this case with Juice=Juice, the story centers on the group breaking its own best record in the absence of any real rival — a situation commenters described as ‘the loneliness of being at the top.’ At the same time, it’s easy to overlook that view counts are purely a YouTube-side metric, separate from CD sales, live attendance, or the criteria used to select acts for the Kohaku Uta Gassen year-end song contest. The thread saw two camps go back and forth without reaching a resolution: a critical view that ‘view counts are just online hype and don’t reflect actual sales compared to other groups,’ versus a defense that ‘their vocal ability means they’d hold their own even on the Kohaku stage.’ The numbers themselves are factual, but keeping in mind that they don’t directly indicate mainstream name recognition or popularity makes it easier to read this kind of view-count competition news with the right context.

The ridiculous one is whoever does it knowing full well it's against the law

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

A legal amendment in late 2023 extended penalties to cannabis “use” itself, not just possession, which changed the legal landscape here. In the thread, some pointed to overseas legalization and called Japan’s laws “too strict,” while others countered that “if it’s against the law, it’s on you” — opinions on whether the regulations are fair were split. Worth noting: no solid information about the Japan volleyball team’s drug-testing system actually appeared in the thread — it remains pure speculation. Health effects also drew contradictory claims, from “less harmful than tobacco” to “there’s research showing it damages the brain,” suggesting this is a field without a settled scientific consensus.

  • Imperial Palace Running Manners Feud Escalates, Some Call for an Outright Ban — 5ch: “Sidewalks Are for Pedestrians First”

Collisions and shouting matches between runners and pedestrians have long plagued the loop course around the Imperial Palace. In late August, a post on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting “maybe it’s time to ban this” ignited a wave of both support and backlash. When a Tokyo Shimbun reporter actually ran the course to investigate, they found a situation where, with no clear rules in place, everything is left to manners alone. On 5ch, threads mixed complaints about groups of runners blocking the sidewalk shoulder-to-shoulder with counter-complaints about careless pedestrians, and the discussion ranged all the way from proposals for a dedicated runners’ lane to calls to “abolish Imperial Palace runners entirely.”

◆ “For some reason, runners get priority” vs. “Don’t be so cold-hearted” — SNS users split

“Running around the Imperial Palace — isn’t it about time we banned it?” When this question was posted on X (formerly Twitter) in late August, it ignited a firestorm of opinion both for and against Imperial Palace running.

    Background and Key Issues

The roughly 5km loop course around the Imperial Palace (commonly known as “Kokyo Run”) has become firmly established as one of the few places in central Tokyo where people can safely run long distances. Legally, however, it is not a “runners-only path” — pedestrians, runners, and cyclists all share the same sidewalks and roadside areas. No rules exist to establish who has priority, leaving everything to depend on manners alone. Within the thread, complaints about “groups of runners spreading out across the sidewalk” clashed with criticism of “pedestrians who don’t keep to the edge,” reflecting a structural problem that can’t simply be pinned on one side. Proposals for a dedicated lane were also raised, though some doubt its feasibility given the cost involved. The extreme calls for an outright “ban” appear to stem from frustration with this underlying structural ambiguity.

  • Kondo Masahiko Weighs In on timelesz’s Inomata Scandal: ‘This Can’t Be Forgiven’

Singer Kondo Masahiko (62) told reporters before a concert in Tottori City on September 23 that the case of timelesz member Shuto Inomata (25), arrested on suspicion of assault, “cannot be forgiven.” While touching on his own years of paying his dues as a young performer and saying he himself stays mindful of compliance, Kondo’s comments drew less sympathy than mockery on 5ch, where posters pointed to his own 1989 breakup press conference with Akina Nakamori and the sexual abuse scandal involving former Johnny’s boss Johnny Kitagawa, jeering “look who’s talking” (omaeiu).

Singer Kondo Masahiko (62) performed live at Tottori’s Ace Pac Mirai Chuo Main Hall on the 23rd. The show, part of a 16-city tour, marked his first-ever concert in the prefecture.

Speaking to reporters before the show, Kondo also addressed the case of Shuto Inomata (25) — a member of “timelesz,” a group of younger talents from the former Johnny’s agency Kondo himself once belonged to — who was arrested on suspicion of assault.

    Background and Talking Points

Kondo’s remarks about timelesz’s Inomata, arrested on suspicion of assault, were reported as coming from his position as a senior figure from the former Johnny’s agency. But on 5ch, the reaction skewed toward pushback rather than agreement, with posters asking “is he really in a position to criticize a junior?” — pointing to the fact that Kondo lived through the same era as his own 1989 breakup press conference with Akina Nakamori and the sexual abuse scandal involving former Johnny’s boss Johnny Kitagawa. Few confirmed details of the Inomata case itself were available at the time of reporting, and much of the speculation about relationships and other details discussed in the thread is poorly substantiated. The pattern in which a former Johnny’s talent commenting on a junior’s scandal ends up dragging the agency’s own sexual abuse problem back into the conversation looks set to repeat with similar news going forward.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Geino/Sports News+) thread “[Matchy] Kondo Masahiko Weighs In on the timelesz Inomata Uproar: ‘This Can’t Be Forgiven,’ ‘Even having paid my dues…,’ ‘I’m mindful of compliance myself too’ [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Moriyasu Japan to Retry the 4-Back — Shelved During the World Cup, Testing It Today Against Uruguay

Sponichi reports that Moriyasu’s Japan plans to start with a 4-back formation in today’s international friendly against Uruguay. Throughout the actual World Cup, the team stuck with a 3-back (switching to a 5-back depending on the situation) to the very end, shelving the 4-back idea. On 5ch, reactions were split: some voiced anxiety over the squad’s shortage of natural right-backs and a deep-seated distrust of Moriyasu’s tactical decisions, while others took it more positively, framing it as an experiment aimed at the next World Cup four years from now.

Between the blowout wins and way too many qualifying spots, even World Cup qualifiers are boring these days

    Background and Key Points

Moriyasu’s Japan consistently used a 3-back (switching to a 5-back depending on the opponent) throughout the World Cup in North and Central America, and never switched to a 4-back during the tournament itself. Today’s match against Uruguay is the first strengthening match since the World Cup, and on the forum thread, many comments pointed out the thin depth at natural right-back. The 4-back has been the dominant formation among the top teams at recent World Cups, offering the advantage of more easily covering the space behind the fullbacks, but it’s also a system that demands both strong one-on-one defending and attacking contribution from both fullbacks. The split reactions stem from differing takes: some see this as a belated experiment given that it’s still unclear at this point whether Moriyasu will continue as manager, while others see it as preparation looking ahead to the next four-year cycle.

Kōhei Miyadai (31), a University of Tokyo graduate and former professional baseball player, has once again become a hot topic after appearing as a commentator for a Tokyo Big Six University Baseball broadcast. After retiring as a player, Miyadai worked at TMI Associates law firm while attending the University of Tokyo Law School, and announced in November 2025 that he had passed the bar exam. On a 5ch thread, some hailed him as “the ultimate embodiment of a scholar-athlete,” while others debated his limited number of professional pitching appearances and the difficulty of the bar exam, with the discussion expanding into comparisons with lawyers who came from other sports.

The people who get called "scholar-athletes" are usually the "rectangle" type — heavily skewed toward either academic achievement or athletic achievement, not both. The "square" type, moderately good at both, or the "giant square" type, seriously great at both, are still pretty rare.

For this guy, it was really all about timing.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

There are two routes to the bar exam: one after completing law school, and another via passing the preliminary bar exam first. Miyadai took the former route. On the thread, opinions clashed between “it’s gotten easier” and “even with money and time, not everyone can pass,” but judging difficulty purely by pass rate is premature — it’s easy to overlook that law schools themselves are selective, admissions-based institutions. There were also voices questioning his achievements based on his limited number of professional pitching appearances, but as the article itself notes, simply getting drafted into professional baseball already puts you in a small minority. As for the “scholar-athlete” yardstick, some pointed out that most people lean heavily toward either academics or sports, with few standing out in both — and how to weigh Miyadai’s case against that analysis is where the thread’s opinions diverged.

  • Fighters’ Manager Shinjo Set to Return Next Season — 5ch: ‘A Relief for Rival Fans’

Sponichi is reporting that Nippon-Ham Fighters manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo has essentially been confirmed to remain at the helm next season. Though his team missed out on the league pennant in his fifth year in charge, it has already locked in a third straight top-three (“A-class”) finish. Shinjo, who has worked on year-to-year contracts since taking the job, is set to enter his sixth season — second only to Hideki Kuriyama’s tenure since the team’s move to Hokkaido. On 5ch, threads mixed frustration over the team’s continued failure to win the pennant amid SoftBank’s golden era with praise for Shinjo’s record on attendance and player development, producing a blend of support for his return and complaints about the team’s defense and in-game management.

    Sponichi [Sept 24, 2026, 1:30 AM]

It emerged on the 23rd that Nippon-Ham Fighters manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo (54) will continue in the role next season, with an official announcement from Shinjo himself expected soon. His fifth year in charge fell short of the league pennant, but a third consecutive top-three finish has already been secured. The club quietly approached him about staying on, and Shinjo has made up his mind to continue. He will enter his sixth season — second in tenure only to Chief Baseball Officer Hideki Kuriyama (65), who managed the team for a franchise-record 10 years through 2021 since the move to Hokkaido — as he chases the championship that has eluded him.

Tabbed as the preseason favorite to win it all, the team once again fell short of the pennant that has long eluded it. But Tsuyoshi Shinjo’s challenge isn’t over. The manager, who has signed one-year contracts every season since taking the job, has decided to return for a sixth season regardless of how October’s postseason plays out.

Learning team-building from rival manager Fujimoto of SoftBank
    https://www.nikkansports.com/baseball/news/202203270001208.html

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Manager Shinjo has kept up the unusual practice of signing one-year contracts ever since taking the job, and this time too the club reportedly approached him quietly about staying on before he made up his mind. Among managers since the team’s move to Hokkaido, Hideki Kuriyama held the post for 10 years, and Keiji Osawa, Shigeru Mizuhara, and Masataka Nashida all won pennants — whereas Shinjo has racked up 351 wins over five seasons without ever capturing the league title, and that gap is what divides opinion in the thread. With SoftBank building a golden era through heavy roster investment, comments ranged from defenders arguing “he just can’t win because SoftBank is too strong” to skeptics questioning the team’s shaky defense and whether the same approach will hold up next season. On player development, some compared his record unfavorably to SoftBank’s, and a useful way to read this discussion is that commenters tend to separate business-side measures of success — attendance and popularity — from on-field results in wins and losses.

  • Yen Plunges to the Upper-158 Range as US Long-Term Rates Top 5.1% — 5ch: “Rates Like a Developing Country”

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 23rd, the yen briefly plunged to the low-158 range against the dollar, slipping back to the level seen before the Bank of Japan’s “rate check” on September 18. A rate check is not an intervention itself, but simply an action to confirm exchange rate levels with market participants. At the same time, US long-term interest rates topped 5.10% for the first time in about 19 years, and the widening Japan-US interest rate gap appears to have accelerated yen selling. On 5ch threads, a range of opinions were exchanged over the high level of US interest rates, the effectiveness of currency intervention, and the impact of rising prices on daily life.

Compared to FX, a standard taxable brokerage account, or corporate trading, NISA is basically garbage.
Unless they remove the structural advantage of switching into foreign-currency assets,
just cutting off NISA as an escape route only ends up hurting individual investors.

🚨 Massive crash hitting the markets.

After Iran's president said the country would "never surrender," nearly $1 trillion was wiped out across US stocks, metals, and crypto in the past hour.

    The S&P 500 fell -0.6%, wiping out $414 billion.

Gold fell -0.8%, wiping out $242 billion.

Silver fell -1.5%, wiping out $55 billion.

Bitcoin fell -2.2%, wiping out $40 billion.

The Nasdaq fell -1.1%, wiping out roughly $149 billion.

Markets are now starting to price in a prolonged US-Iran conflict, which would push oil prices higher and pile on more inflationary pressure.

Background and key points of this topic

A “rate check” is an action the Bank of Japan takes to confirm exchange rate levels with market participants ahead of a possible intervention — it is not an intervention itself. The core of this news is that yen weakness didn’t stop even after the September 18 rate check, and on the 23rd the yen slid all the way back down to the low-158 level seen before that check. Behind US long-term rates topping 5.10% for the first time in about 19 years lies persistently high US inflation and fading expectations of rate cuts. The wider the Japan-US interest rate gap grows, the easier it is to sell the yen — and the shared view on the thread was that intervention is just a way to buy time. At the same time, opinions were split over the effectiveness of intervention and the Bank of Japan’s stance on rate hikes — some argued concrete measures should have been taken during that bought-time window — as well as over differing views on whether wage gains actually feel real. Note that, for neutrality, this article excludes replies that weighed in on Bank of Japan personnel appointments or on specific administrations or political parties.
