  • Hello! Project Frustrations Boil Over: 5ch Asks, “How Much Longer Is This Juice=Juice Favoritism Going to Continue?”

A thread titled “Let’s Just Air All Our Grievances About the Hello! Project Empire” went up on 5ch, drawing a flood of complaints about Hello! Project’s management and how its groups are run. The gripes ranged widely — a sluggish release schedule, criticism of the Nishiguchi regime, resentment that Juice=Juice alone gets preferential treatment, and claims that the agency is turning a blind eye to slander aimed at members. At the same time, more pragmatic voices pointed out that “Juice=Juice is the group carrying the company financially, so shutting it down or disbanding it just isn’t realistic,” exposing the gap in the thread between idealistic wishes and the harsh realities of running the business.

    Because there's demand for it

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Hello! Project is a long-running idol-training organization overseeing multiple groups, and in recent years Juice=Juice’s outsized popularity and workload have made the exposure gap with other groups a recurring talking point. The thread split over whether Juice=Juice should get even more preferential treatment or be reined in as “overexposed favoritism,” with voices defending the favoritism on financial grounds sitting alongside backlash from people simply tired of the imbalance. Some also questioned the agency’s handling of online slander, though the thread never specified which posts or incidents were being referenced, so those claims should be treated as unverified. Fans threw around extreme words like “disband” and “go bankrupt,” but there was also a shared understanding that Juice=Juice’s earnings are what’s propping up the company — making this thread less a pure venting session than a glimpse into fans’ grasp of the agency’s business realities.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Let’s Just Air All Our Grievances About the Hello! Project Empire.”

  • New Fire Emblem Title ‘Bansenkou’ Splits Opinion — Scenario Praised, but Save System Sparks Backlash

Opinions split on 5ch’s hardware/industry board over how reception to the new Fire Emblem title “Bansenkou” shifted after the Silver Week holidays. The thread’s OP claimed that as more players tried the game, positive reviews increased, but replies included an image showing the opposite — a rising share of negative reviews — sparking arguments over which was true and whether review manipulation was at play. Meanwhile, many posters praised the main story and character depth, while also raising concrete complaints about the game’s systems, such as having only a single save slot and the punishing scheduling demands of side-quest (“Gaiden”) deadlines.

    1AnonymousSep 24, 2026 09:19
・A lot of old-school FE fans are absolutely losing it, raging that this is a garbage game.
・Still, pretty much everyone agrees the story is great.
・Theodora, the dark-skinned character — turns out she's adorable and the most popular one, of all things.

    Re: #6
It really comes down to how you look at it.
If you go in blind and just build up whichever skills seem obviously useful, you actually end up with some pretty interesting battles.
Also, Gaiden chapters pay out a ton of gold so they feel mandatory, but the deadlines and same-day recruiting make scheduling tough.
Either way, you can redo a battle from any point, and even reset all the way back to the start of the chapter, so you might as well just take it slow and retry as many times as you need.
(And of course there's a story-skip option too.)

If you want to recruit everyone, does that mean you're stuck endlessly redoing chapters at the bird part forever?
Is that the reasoning behind making it a single save file?
    44AnonymousSep 24, 2026 10:32
    Re: #39
Each of the 4 routes has different characters who are easier to recruit, and everyone ends up together at the end anyway.

I get that the calendar and school-life sections will be love-it-or-hate-it.
But making it a single save file, I really question that.
The devs are pushing their own vision way too hard and it just makes things inconvenient for players — let us play how we want.

    62AnonymousSep 24, 2026 10:52
    Re: #48
    No, it is NOT fine.
In the Dietrich arc, I advanced time to do a Gaiden quest, then tried to head to the main quest afterward — didn't make it in time and had to redo 160 turns.
The timing design around Gaiden quests is way too sloppy, and even if the saves were separate, it autosaves right before you go do the Gaiden, so you can't even go back.

Calling this design insane would be an understatement.
    67AnonymousSep 24, 2026 10:54
    Re: #62
I hit the exact same thing.
And in that particular chapter, you can't warp anywhere until you go to the main quest location and sit through the dialogue, so depending on where you are when the autosave hits, you can get permanently soft-locked. That's brutal.

Persona's the same way — once one part of your plan falls apart, you get that "oh no, I messed up" feeling.

Three Houses had good writing but the story's presentation was kind of mediocre in places.

    108AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:58
    Re: #98
    No, no, no.
The exploration sections are even more of a slog now, and that's tanked how comfortable replaying the game is.
And on top of that, the support conversations — the thing Three Houses got praised for the most — have gotten noticeably worse too.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Bansenkou” is the newest installment in Nintendo’s Fire Emblem tactical RPG series, and the thread repeatedly compared it to the previous entry, Three Houses. The debate centers on two main points. The first concerns how the game is actually being received: the thread’s OP claimed reception had turned positive, but an image was immediately posted showing a rising share of negative reviews, splitting opinion on which was accurate. This kind of user score is often suspected of being skewed by coordinated positive or negative posting (“review bombing”), and speculation about “paid negative campaigns” or “manipulation” circulated on 5ch as well — though it’s worth noting this is all posters’ personal speculation, not official aggregated data or third-party analysis. The second point of contention is the game’s systems: the single save-file design and the tight scheduling demands of Gaiden (side) quests drew criticism, backed by concrete examples like having to redo 160 turns after a scheduling mistake. At the same time, the story and cast were widely praised, making this a discussion that doesn’t fit neatly into a simple “masterpiece” vs. “trash game” framing.

  • Hakata Ramen Owner Says ‘Order Large From the Start, Skip the Refill’ — Opinions Split

A Hakata ramen shop owner sparked debate on 5channel after saying, “If you’re going to order a refill anyway, I’d rather you just order the large portion from the start — extra orders after you’ve already finished add more work for the shop.” Regulars and ramen fans pushed back one after another, arguing things like “the refill is the whole appeal of Hakata ramen” and “the noodles are deliberately made smaller because a refill is expected.” On the other hand, some voices showed a degree of understanding for the shop’s position, saying things like “a large portion lets you fudge the noodle amount” or “it’s simply up to the shop to decide,” leaving opinions split.

    1AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:03
A comment from a Hakata ramen shop owner about the "kaedama" (noodle refill) — a defining feature of Fukuoka's ramen culture — has become a hot topic online.
The owner argued, "If you want to eat a lot of noodles from the start, just order the large portion. Ordering a refill after you've already finished creates more work for the shop."
While some say "the refill is the whole appeal of Hakata ramen," the owner explained, "If you think about the balance with the soup, ordering large from the start lets you enjoy it deliciously all the way to the end."
    3AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:04
This owner's just talking about what's convenient for the store — that's not right
    4AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:05
The whole point is you can't have both: keeping the noodles from going soggy AND keeping the soup hot
    6AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:07
The refill system was something the shops themselves started in the first place
    7AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:07

Stopping right when you still want a bit more is the best way to eat
    10AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:08
Thin noodles, sure, but ordering a refill for tsukemen that takes like 10 minutes to make? That's just crazy

    14AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:11

    15AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:11
At Nandenkanden on the Kan-nana loop road, if you put your refill noodles into the bowl with leftover soup, people used to say "that's tacky" or "that's how someone from Tokyo who doesn't get real flavor eats it"
    16AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:11
It's tasty precisely because of the crisp, straight thin noodles — make it a large portion and they'll just go soggy
    17AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:11
Someone who doesn't understand ramen shouldn't be running a ramen shop
    18AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:11

If they built the recipe around large portions from the start, maybe they could make the large taste good too
    19AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:12

    Yeah, exactly.
It's built around the refill system.

    40AnonymousSep 24, 2026 11:23
If you order large from the start and it's not to your taste, you're stuck leaving food behind.

Have you ever actually eaten Hakata ramen?
The refill noodles and the back half of the noodles from your first bowl taste completely different, obviously

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Hakata ramen noodles are ultra-thin, straight noodles that tend to go soggy quickly once they hit the soup. Because of this, as the thread pointed out, many shops deliberately make a single serving’s noodle portion smaller, expecting customers to order an additional round of noodles (a “kaedama” refill) right as they finish. In other words, the refill isn’t just an “extra option for customers who didn’t get enough to eat” — it’s built directly into the cooking design meant to preserve the noodles’ texture. That’s exactly where opinions in the thread diverged: those prioritizing the shop’s efficiency argued that “ordering large from the start cuts down on hassle and lets you enjoy it deliciously to the end,” while regulars who understood the noodles’ properties countered that “you’d have to change the dough or the boiling method for a large portion to get the same texture.” Some also pointed out that the price of a refill has climbed to around 150 yen, suggesting the discussion is also shaped by how used people are to the system and how the price increase feels to them. The debate never reached a clear conclusion, but it’s worth noting that the simplistic take of “just order large” overlooks the actual cooking science behind the noodles.

  • Zero Bids for Expo Site Redevelopment — 5ch: ‘Whoever Set That Price Is to Blame’

According to a Nikkei feature report, the public call for a developer to redevelop the former Osaka Healthcare Pavilion site — the first plot offered up for reuse at the Osaka-Kansai Expo grounds on Yumeshima — ended with zero bids. Osaka Prefecture and the city have also opened bidding since July for a developer to build out roughly 420,000 square meters (about 9 Tokyo Domes) that will form the core of “Yumeshima Phase 2,” with the planned sale price reportedly set at ¥92.1 billion, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun. On 5ch, opinions crossed paths: some blamed the high asking price for the lack of bids, others noted that hotel operators for the IR (such as MGM Osaka) have already been decided, and still others brought up the rivalry with Suzuka Circuit over hosting rights for Japan’s F1 race.

Will F1 Leave Suzuka? Contract Runs Through 2029, but Osaka Bid Has Locals on Edge
    (Chunichi Shimbun, March 25, 2026)

In mid-October last year, as a coalition government between the LDP and the Japan Innovation Party looked increasingly likely, Suzuka Mayor Noriko Suematsu spoke with a grave look on her face.
"The connection between the IR (integrated resort) and the F1 bid may be becoming real. I feel a very strong sense of crisis about it."
The IR the mayor referred to is the casino-inclusive facility planned for the former Osaka-Kansai Expo site.

From 2025 onward, the Japanese Grand Prix looks set to become a head-to-head contest between Suzuka and Osaka.
And even for Suzuka, this fight won't be a simple one.
If you think of F1 as entertainment, a street race in a major city could draw huge crowds and deliver a major economic boost — a win-win for fans, organizers, and F1 alike.

That's the separate Phase 2 land sale, not the casino itself.
There's just no bids because the price is too high. They'll probably end up lowering it.

Whoever set that price is the one to blame.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Development of an IR (integrated resort) is already underway on the former Expo site at Yumeshima, and hotel operators such as MGM Osaka have already been named in reports. What’s easy for readers to confuse is that this “zero bids” result applies not to the IR itself, but to the separate public call for redeveloping the former Osaka Healthcare Pavilion site, which was offered up first. In the thread, comments blur this bidding round together with the newly opened (as of July) call for developers for Yumeshima Phase 2 (roughly 420,000 square meters), and with the IR project itself — so it’s worth keeping straight which project is actually being discussed. Some posters argue the asking price (¥92.1 billion, per Yomiuri reporting) is simply too high, while others say it’s too early to judge since the bidding process has only just begun — opinion on the thread is split. The rivalry with Suzuka Circuit over hosting Japan’s F1 race is a separate topic tied to the broader IR development, and should be considered apart from whether the Expo site redevelopment itself succeeds or fails.

  • Manga Artist Masakazu Katsura Draws Fan Art for an Unknown Indie VTuber — 5ch: “Where’d He Even Find This Nobody?”

Manga artist Masakazu Katsura posted fan art on X (formerly Twitter) of a little-known independent VTuber with a tiny subscriber count, sparking discussion on a 5ch live-commentary board. In the post, Katsura explained the backstory behind a streamer known as “Ono Yoko-san,” who commentates on shooting games and other titles, writing that “even after she found out I was a manga artist, she treated me naturally, and it’s really comfortable being around her” — notably, this wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment joke. Reactions on the thread were split: some took it warmly, arguing that “people who bash VTubers are a minority,” while others grew suspicious, asking “where did he even find someone this obscure?” and speculating he might be “a friend or someone connected to her.”

    Background and discussion points

Masakazu Katsura is a veteran manga artist known for works like “I”s” and “Wingman,” and posting fan art on social media isn’t new for him. What made this newsworthy was that the subject was an independent VTuber with a tiny subscriber count — had he drawn fan art of a famous VTuber, it likely wouldn’t have raised any eyebrows, and that gap in “temperature” is exactly what split opinion on the thread. In his own post, Katsura described her as “a streamer who cheerfully commentates on brutally hard games” and someone who “treats me naturally,” which suggests the two are acquainted, though the text reveals nothing further about the relationship. On the thread, the view that “VTubers are already accepted by mainstream society” sits alongside the suspicion that “picking an unknown target makes people read more into it” — a twist fairly specific to fan culture, where the same act gets judged very differently depending on how famous the target is.

※This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyō G) thread “[Breaking] Star manga artist Masakazu Katsura posts fan art of a mysterious indie VTuber wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww” (the trailing string of “w” is Japanese internet shorthand for laughter, roughly equivalent to “lol”).

    Background and Points of Debate

There’s no official definition of “going viral” on TikTok, and the “100,000 likes” benchmark raised in the thread is just one participant’s gut feeling. The TikTok-likes ranking of female idols is likewise an unofficial tally with no stated source or methodology — worth noting these aren’t figures released by any agency or the idols themselves. Suspicions about inflated follower or view counts also come up regularly in idol fan circles, though unsubstantiated claims tend to get mixed in with legitimate observations on this topic. This thread also included some practical trend analysis — for instance, the observation that collaboration videos with outside talent tend to perform better than dance-cover videos of the group’s own songs — going beyond a simple numbers comparison into questions of social media strategy.

  • No Save Transfer for “Dragon Quest XI S” on Switch 2 — 5ch: “The Gap With The Witcher 3 Is Way Too Big”

It’s been revealed that the Switch 2 version of “Dragon Quest XI S” will launch for 5,478 yen (tax included), and while players will now be able to choose between a “Resolution Priority Mode” (1440p/30fps) and a “Performance Priority Mode” (1080p/60fps), the game will not support carrying over save data from the Switch version. On the hardware/industry (geha) board, opinions split between those saying existing owners don’t need to bother rebuying it since there’s no new content, and critics calling it inconsiderate compared to other companies’ cross-save support — with the discussion also turning to why no PS5 version is being made.

To sum up the conclusions first:

    – The price is 5,478 yen (tax included).

Players will now be able to choose between a “Resolution Priority Mode” (1440p/30fps) and a “Performance Priority Mode” (1080p/60fps).

There are tons of examples of save transfers being possible, so "technically impossible"…

The Remake III got a free Switch 2 upgrade, no "Switch 2 Edition" branding or anything.
But Remakes I and II are being treated as separate titles between Switch and Switch 2, with no save compatibility either.

I think it just comes down to motivation.

    Re: #111
The FFT remake got flak, but they clearly did careful work.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Square Enix’s approach to the Switch 2 transition has been inconsistent. The team behind “FFT: Revenge of Warlock” and the “Trials of Mana Remake” has carefully handled Switch 1 data carryover and 60fps support, and “Dragon Quest III” and “Dragon Quest X” have already received Switch 2 updates. “Dragon Quest XI S,” on the other hand, is being resold as an entirely new package, with no save data carryover implemented. A common misconception among readers is the explanation that “a PS5 version isn’t coming because the graphics are too lightweight” — but pushback within the thread points to sales projections as the real reason, suggesting the decision comes down to business judgment rather than technical difficulty. Opinions in the thread split between a resigned view that existing owners don’t need to force themselves to rebuy the game since there’s no new content, and criticism calling the move inconsiderate compared to how other companies have handled it.

  • SoftBank Group to Raise $10 Billion for OpenAI With Junk Bonds Paying Up to 9.75%

SoftBank Group (SBG) announced on September 24 that it will raise a total of $11.1 billion (roughly ¥1.7 trillion) through dollar- and euro-denominated corporate bonds. Rates run from 8.625% on the 3.5-year notes to 9.25% on the 5.5-year notes and as high as 9.75% on the 7.5-year notes — reportedly the largest single issuance ever of so-called “junk bonds,” debt rated below investment grade. The funds raised are said to be earmarked for SoftBank’s massive investment in OpenAI. Reactions on the thread ranged from users weighing whether to buy in, betting on Masayoshi Son’s judgment, to widespread skepticism about the risk of OpenAI’s business collapsing — and questions about whether this is even something retail investors could buy in the first place.

SoftBank Group Decides on Foreign Bond Issuance — World’s Largest Low-Rated Offering, 9.75% Interest

SoftBank Group (SBG) announced on the 24th that it will raise a total of $11.1 billion (roughly ¥1.7 trillion) through dollar- and euro-denominated bond issuances, with rates as high as 9.75%. 208AnonymousSep 24, 2026 10:39
    Re: #191
Even high-yield bond ETFs are only around 6% right now

    Background and Key Points

High-yield bonds (aka “junk bonds”) are corporate bonds issued by companies whose credit rating falls below investment grade, with the interest rate set higher to compensate for default risk. SBG is structurally reliant on hard-to-cash-out assets — such as borrowing against its Arm shares as collateral — and keeps funding massive AI-related investments like its OpenAI stake through debt. Some posts in the thread lumped this together with small-lot retail products like “Minna de Ooya-san,” but that’s a common misunderstanding: institutional bonds like this one are typically traded in lots worth tens of millions of yen, not something individuals can buy directly in small amounts through a brokerage. OpenAI also isn’t publicly listed, so the path to recouping this investment depends either on the bonds being redeemed or on OpenAI’s own cash flow — and thread opinion was split between optimism about AI investment and the harsher reality of extending credit to a company that keeps posting losses.

    Background and Talking Points

“Live Anything General” is a chat-only board on 5ch that runs almost nonstop around the clock, with posters cycling in and out through the night and into the morning while continuously dropping new topics. In this thread too, a string of hard-to-verify topics circulated one after another, including a game’s Gundam collaboration announcement and an image claimed to show a new Hololive anime. It’s worth noting the anime news was backed only by a posted image, with no official announcement confirmed anywhere in the thread. Since each topic tends to get just a quick one-line reaction before the conversation moves on, these live threads rarely develop into deep discussion of any single subject — a pattern typical of this kind of thread.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (“Live Anything General”) thread “No way a thread’s still up this late at night 🥲.”

  • Shohei Ohtani Returns to Starting Lineup as ‘2-Hole DH,’ Joins Team Photo Before Game

Shohei Ohtani returned to the starting lineup as the No. 2 hitter and DH in the September 23 (local time) game against the Padres, coming off a 15-day injured list stint for inflammation in his right biceps. He also took part in the team photo shoot before the game. On 5channel threads, the discussion centered on questions of fact: why he’s back batting second instead of his usual leadoff spot, speculation over whether the injury was really his biceps or actually his knee or neck, and theories that prospect De Paula — who’s being sent down to make room — is being lined up for a postseason-eligibility exception as an injury replacement.

He's the type who just wants to swing for the fences
I figured the team decided it's better to let him swing freely than ask for situational hitting, but here he is coming back batting second
    16AnonymousSep 24, 2026 07:58
    Betts leading off?
If they're going with a zigzag (alternating lefty/righty) lineup, maybe Smith 3rd and Freeman cleanup?
    18AnonymousSep 24, 2026 07:59
Sounds like whoever's filling in at DH is on pace for an OPS over 1.000

    Re: #14
Probably sponsor obligations involved — when he's slumping they have to cook up all these cover stories, rough on both him and Roberts
    20AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:01
They're chasing 100 wins, so losing today would be bad news
    25AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:04
Do they really need to send a promising rookie who just settled in down to Triple-A just for this?
He could've just sat out the rest of the season

    Re: #25
If they win it all three years running too easily, they'll run out of goals
    28AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:12
Good thing he's not going into the postseason cold
Just needs to find his timing in the last 5 games
    32AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:16
He's not even good at bunting and they've got him batting 2nd…

Grandpa, you already had dinner (a jab implying the poster's confused and repeating themselves)
    33AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:18
He's got the speed for it, could always drop a safety bunt
    34AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:20
Great, another giant rally-killer incoming 😭
    36AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:21
    They're bringing Ohtani back, so
Yamamoto better step up and carry the team
    42AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:24
The team vibe was so good too…
    43AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:24
He'll probably go off in the postseason
That's just the kind of guy Ohtani is
    52AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:33
    Re: #43
Even Matsui and Yamamoto won World Series MVP, so he'd better bring one home too
    56AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:34
    Re: #43
Has he actually had sustained postseason success before, though?
    44AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:27
They'll probably keep throwing lefty specialists at him again
    45AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:29
Diehard LA fans are losing it lol
    46AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:29
Betts is on a conveniently hot streak right now lol
Guess 'Ohtani harassment' really is a thing lol
    48AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:30
    Oh, you're still around
    Thought you'd already retired
    51AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:32
    HERE IT COMES━━━━(°∀°)━━━━!!
    63AnonymousSep 24, 2026 08:43
    What happened to Ohtani's popularity?
This thread's moving at a third the speed of the Fujinami one

The game's not even over yet

The plan is to get De Paula onto the postseason roster as a replacement for Rushing (who's injured)

De Paula, who debuted in September, technically isn't eligible for the postseason roster,
but there's an exception: if a team applies to replace an injured player, he can be added.
If they option him down today and the request to replace Rushing gets approved afterward,
he'll be postseason-eligible from the very start. (Today is the perfect timing for it.)

The Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate is in its own postseason and has games going,
so De Paula will suit up as an outfielder there today.
With Ohtani's return cutting into his playing time anyway, this lets him keep playing in the minors and stay sharp
    — basically a two-birds-one-stone move.

    Re: #73
    Ah, that's what's going on
Yeah, they do need De Paula for the postseason

    Re: #73
Couldn't Ohtani just go tune up in Triple-A instead?
    88AnonymousSep 24, 2026 09:31
Might be better if he just went back on the IL again
    93AnonymousSep 24, 2026 09:46
Batting Tani second? Roberts is being way too much of a Tani hater

    Re: #93
Guy can't hit for squat the moment there's a runner on base
If leadoff's out, 9th's the only spot that makes sense — go work on your defense

    Background and Key Points

Ohtani’s stint on the injured list this time was for inflammation in his right biceps; the “knee” and “neck” issues floated in the thread remain unsubstantiated speculation. Moving him down from his usual leadoff spot to second appears to reflect a modern lineup-construction philosophy that prioritizes getting on base and maximizing extra-base hits over small-ball tactics — more likely a strategic call by the coaching staff than something Ohtani requested himself. As for the discussion around prospect De Paula, MLB rules generally require a player to have been on the active roster by August 31 to be postseason-eligible, but there’s an exception allowing a late addition as a replacement for an injured player — so the theory that the team is timing this move to file that exception alongside Ohtani’s return has some real basis. With the Dodgers chasing 100 wins down the stretch, Ohtani’s return has drawn extra attention to both his batting order spot and how he’s being used.
