Exactly this.
Some random middle-aged guy talking down to everyone about "governance" is so lame it's not even funny.
6AnonymousNov 6, 2026 09:59
Lol, dropping a power phrase like "hourglass of life" is clearly just bait for controversy.
9AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:00
If he'd skipped the pointless self-indulgent rambling, he would've actually come off well.
12AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:02
Re: #9
Showing up in sunglasses with stubble and then getting told to button his shirt — that's basically a joke at this point.
20AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:04
Re: #12
I mean, a grown adult not even combing his bangs up — not realizing THAT'S way more embarrassing than an unbuttoned shirt is the scary part.
22AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:05
Re: #12
At a press conference where he himself was the one who should've been under fire, he power-harassed a subordinate just to make himself look a little bigger. Sounds like he's well-liked among his inner circle (Horie and friends), but that just means he's the type who changes his attitude depending on who he's talking to — the least trustworthy kind of person there is.
10AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:01
It's public knowledge that his boss and Kumagai are tight, so for "world-class editor" Minowa-sensei to post this at this exact moment… was that an overeager own-goal?
11AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:01
Classic in-group bias.
The endgame of capitalism.
In the end it's just cronies playing favorites with cronies until the whole thing's washed up.
13AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:03
Defending this makes you trash too, doesn't it?
Embarrassing.
16AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:03
I'd actually thought "huh, Minowa said something decent" a few times recently over some other story, but nope — Minowa's still Minowa.
18AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:03
Kumagai's always been the naturally eccentric type, right?
That's exactly why that press conference went the way it did, and exactly why the company got this big in the first place.
For better or worse, that press conference was 100% Kumagai, no more and no less.

Hammering him with "the correct take" is completely missing the point.
19AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:04
Harshly scolding a subordinate over an unbuttoned shirt, right there in front of everyone, and humiliating him — that was uncomfortable to watch.
109AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:43
Re: #19
Most people watching are the ones who get scolded by their boss, not the other way around, so it's obvious which side most people will side with.
That kind of thing shouldn't happen in front of the cameras at an apology press conference.
23AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:05
Does Nikkan Sports have some kind of rule that says they HAVE to turn this guy's posts into articles?
39AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:10
Re: #23
It's an automated "kotatsu article" mill (lazy armchair-journalism pieces churned out without leaving the house) — a machine or a bottom-rung worker auto-generates one every time the target updates.
Targets get swapped out based on view counts,
so if nobody clicks, it just quietly disappears.
24AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:06
"The weak gather at dusk…" (riffing on the old folk lyric) — only to bash someone even weaker.

Watching it all unfold while your dinner tastes extra good over it (schadenfreude) is the best part.
25AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:07
So is he saying Horiemon is trash because he saw a video of Horiemon bashing GMO?
27AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:08
A low-tier article like this is top news?
30AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:09
I wonder if Kumagai's basically the emperor with no clothes inside his own company.
36AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:09
Kumagai and Kenjo are friends.
Minowa is Kenjo's subordinate.
37AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:09
Isn't it "everything short of dying is just a scratch" (quoting Horiemon's book title)? No need to go defending him over this.
38AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:10
If someone like Minowa is the one defending him… guess he really is "that type" after all.
46AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:12
This guy just wants Kumagai to let him ghostwrite his memoir.
57AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:18
Re: #46
Working title: "Hourglass of Life," maybe?
61AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:19
This goes for Kenichiro Mogi, Horiemon, Ototake, and the Aojiru King too — people who caused their own scandal and got bashed for it, and ever since then jump on every unrelated scandal just to attack whoever's doing the criticizing, can't be trusted.
Give it time and they'll start saying something like "Japanese people are just broken," pure misplaced resentment.
94AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:35
Re: #61
If you want to defend him, just talk about Kumagai's actual achievements.
Instead they go bashing right back at the critics
without anyone even asking them to —
the kind of "help" nobody wanted.
73AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:26
"The failed trash-tier entrepreneurs gather at dusk…" to bash the successful trash-tier entrepreneur.

Not everyone's a good guy, but it's also not impossible that it's not all bad guys either.
79AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:29
Re: #73
Exactly lol.
Can't say it to his face, so he does it on social media instead lol.
77AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:28
Re: #1
Is he talking about Horiemon?
84AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:31
Re: #77
It's Horiemon, right? I thought so too.
Not many other entrepreneurs have actually brought up President Kumagai.
Horiemon was the only one going on and on about old anecdotes lol.
It wasn't outright criticism, but I did feel a critical edge to it.
From Kumagai's point of view, Horiemon's probably trash-tier too.
78AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:29
I mean, Japanese entrepreneurs are basically all trash anyway, aren't they.
95AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:36
Same old familiar cast —
Hiroyuki gives his know-it-all take, and Mizoguchi monetizes it and wraps things up.
107AnonymousNov 6, 2026 10:42
Re: #95
Well, the biggest idiot is still the old media that covers this exact same stuff every single time.

Background and Key Points of This Story

GMO Internet Group disclosed an unauthorized-access incident, and President Masatoshi Kumagai addressed it at a press conference. Kosuke Minowa is an editor at Gentosha, and 5ch users pointed out that Gentosha’s president, Toru Kenjo, is close with Kumagai — one reason his supportive post got read as “favoring his own circle.” What split the thread was that reactions to Kumagai’s handling of the press conference itself, and reactions to Minowa’s harsh language toward the entrepreneurs criticizing him, ran along two separate axes. The two central points of debate were: reactions to the moment where Kumagai sharply called out a subordinate during the press conference, and speculation over exactly who Minowa had in mind as his target (with guesses pointing to Horiemon and other entrepreneurs). Note that some replies containing unfounded, definitive accusations against real companies or individuals have been excluded from this article.
