Sato Masaki Recommends Her Go-To Hiroshima Izakaya — But Fans Can’t Crack Her Directions

From our other sites

The story

Hello! Project OG Sato Masaki recommended her go-to standing-bar izakaya in Hiroshima on the radio. She dropped hints — that it’s known for norimaki (seaweed rolls), plus directions via taxi — but the information was so fragmentary that she never actually named the place, kicking off an identification hunt on 5ch’s Hello! Project thread. With several similar standing-bar joints and multiple APA Hotels clustered around Hiroshima Station, candidates like “Uotora” and “Soraya” were floated, but neither was a clean match given the distance from the station, and in the end listeners couldn’t pin it down. The thread also buzzed about the announcement of a new-single event at AEON Mall Hiroshima Fuchu on November 28.

(New single event announcement)
Sato: November 28th, at AEON Mall Hiroshima Fuchu (*clap clap*)
3AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:32
She's got 9 event locations for the new single and she hypes up every single one with this same energy — it's a 30-minute show and she spent over 10 minutes just on announcements, lol
4AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:36
It's an event in Hiroshima and Chuden (Chugoku Electric Power Co.) still won't go see it — what a Hello! Project hater

Re: #4
lolololol
5AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:36
Is this the bar district in Osuga-cho, west of Hiroshima Station, commonly nicknamed "Ekinishi"?
It's the area packed with grungy little bars that's a holdover from when a red-light district was set up in Osuga-cho after widows who lost their husbands in the atomic bombing turned to prostitution and it became a social problem
6AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:39
According to Chappy (net slang for ChatGPT), it's apparently Uotora
8AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:42
Uotora's near the Fukuromachi tram stop though, so it's pretty far from Hiroshima Station
10AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:46
Seriously, why won't Chuden go to the event though?
11AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:46
There are three APA Hotels near Hiroshima Station, which is exactly what's making this so hard to pin down —
one by the Shinkansen exit, one across Ekimae Bridge, and one near Mazda Stadium
12AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:50
With this much info you'd think it'd be obvious by now
13AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:50
He's anti-Ma-chan, so he's probably better off not showing up to her stuff anyway
14AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:52
There are way too many izakayas like this around Hiroshima Station —
going just off "standing bar" and "norimaki," Uotora seems like the top pick, but it feels too far from the station
15AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:56
Sounds like she was in a taxi, so maybe it really is far
16AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:56
How is she even giving directions from inside a taxi in the first place?
19AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:57
Re: #16
She's probably just being taken wherever her manager recommends
17AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:56
I don't think she has much sense of Hiroshima's geography, so the directions might not even be accurate
18AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:56
@tama3johnnie
Giving directions in Hiroshima is tough, huh

@machika_a15
I want to go to Ma-chan's favorite izakaya in Hiroshima

@Taku_Hoshi
Hiroshima Station area, izakaya, norimaki
I want to go, so tell us the name at the release event

@yuusan19692
Lol, she's introducing a Hiroshima izakaya nobody could possibly track down
20AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:58
For some reason the Hello! Project members always end up at Atom in Okonomimura
Though honestly the taste doesn't change much no matter which stall you pick
21AnonymousOct 31, 2026 18:59
Unlike during her Morning Musume days, it sounds like she's got a bit more breathing room on the road these days —
she's said things like "I want to just wander around" or "I want to stroll through the AEON Mall" about other regional trips too
35AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:13
Re: #21
Current members are stuck cooped up in hotels and venues, after all
22AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:00
As an OG, she gets to go to the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki place that used to be KAN's favorite
23AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:02
Ma-chan likes soba-sushi, so that explains why she's into norimaki too
24AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:02
Then you go left and kind of curve on up from there —
that probably means crossing the overpass west of the station
25AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:05
Figured it out in a second — don't underestimate a local (jimopi, slang for a hometown local)
27AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:07
I wonder what she's even telling the taxi driver?
34AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:13
Re: #27
Just "image-change" that traffic light! (a nod to the famous line from Morning Musume's "LOVE Machine")
29AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:08
Googled it — might be sai-no-me (diced-cube cut)?
Ma-chan probably can't even read that kanji
30AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:09
When it comes to standing bars famous for norimaki,
the first one that comes to mind is Soraya —

seafood norimaki, that is
31AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:11
Honestly, I've done the Hiroshima bar crawl myself and my gut says Soraya,
so it's probably Soraya
You can ignore this guy's directions, lol
33AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:12
Exit through the Shinkansen gate, go down with the Starbucks at the North Exit on your right, and catch a taxi from the taxi stand —
head west, and there's an intersection with Yume Mart on the right and an APA Hotel on the left, so turn left there and cross the overpass —
after that, no idea
36AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:14
Re: #34
Wasn't this the story about the time Ma-chan and Akane-chin rode in the same taxi, lol
45AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:25
Fish and sake written out in kanji…
brings back memories
For some reason there's a lot of sake from Shimane
46AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:29
When people from Shimane head out to "the big city," Hiroshima is the first stop
Pretty solid lineup, not bad at all
50AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:34
Wait, Ma-chan drinks alcohol?
Somehow I don't like that
54AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:36
Re: #50
Her family runs a Shinto shrine, so even if she can't hold her liquor, she gets made to drink the sacred sake (omiki) at ceremonies
52AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:35
That seafood norimaki looks delicious

Background and Key Points of This Story

Sato Masaki is a former member of Morning Musume who has kept performing as a solo artist and in the group’s OG lineup since graduating. It’s not unusual for her to mention a restaurant she visited while on the radio during regional events, but this time she only gave characteristics — norimaki, standing bar — without ever naming the place outright, so fans with detailed knowledge of the area around Hiroshima Station lit up the thread floating candidates like “Uotora” and “Soraya.” Neither guess went beyond speculation, though, and the thread never reached a definitive identification. Part of the local difficulty is that the area around Hiroshima Station has multiple APA Hotels plus a glut of similar standing-bar joints, making it hard to pin down a shop from fragmentary clues. Keep in mind that the shop names floated in this article are strictly fan speculation, not information confirmed by Sato herself.
