Ijiuin Hikaru: “A ¥160,000 PS6 Is Brutal — The Good Games Are on Steam or Switch 2”

The story

On his radio show, Ijiuin Hikaru weighed in on the rumored price of the next-generation PS6 that’s been circulating online. It’s not an official announcement, but based on current parts pricing, estimates suggest it could reach $1,000 — roughly ¥150,000 to ¥160,000 in Japanese yen. Responding to that, Ijiuin revealed that he plays his Switch 2 “fairly often,” but “barely touches” his PS5, adding, “Honestly, ¥160,000 is brutal — you can play all the good games on Steam or the Switch 2 anyway.” His comments were picked up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, sparking a broader debate over which console comes out on top — covering everything from the PS5’s thin lineup of exclusive titles to comparisons of domestic PS5 vs. Switch 2 sales figures.

From a listener going by "T100": A rumor about the PlayStation 6 has been going around on X, saying it's going to be expensive. Now, this estimated price isn't an official announcement. Based on current parts pricing, if the specs end up being roughly such-and-such, the thinking goes, it might cost around that much — and in the worst case, that estimate puts it at $1,000, which would be ¥150,000 to ¥160,000. So, setting aside whether you'd actually buy one or not, Ijiuin, what are your thoughts on the next-gen PS6?
Well, see, I do play my Switch 2 fairly often. I play it fairly often, and especially with Zelda, it's about to get a lot more use. But now that you mention it, I really have barely touched my PS5 at all.
And honestly, with the PS5 too — everyone agonized over buying one, or really wanted one but didn't have the money, and then once they got it, they barely use it. And come to think of it, you know the Xbox One? I bought one of those too, and it's basically never turned on anymore.

Re: #1
160,000 yen won't even be enough to build a PC that can run Steam games

Re: #3
Steam isn't a game, it's a platform

Re: #3
The hard part isn't that it costs 160,000 yen — it's spending 160,000 yen on useless junk

Re: #3
A PC with a decent integrated GPU can run games reasonably well
Even that has specs beyond a PS4 anyway

If you're not into Nintendo games, PC is the only choice — simple times, and good ones

Deciding what spec to go with is the tricky part

Re: #16
Well, the price gap and the perks of a hybrid console matter, sure, but it's really Pokémon and Nintendo's other hits that are overwhelmingly popular — that's why there's this much demand for the Switch 1/2
Meanwhile that garbage console (5ch slang mocking the PS5 as "Gomi-Sute," i.e. "trash Station") with its mediocre price, software, and specs has zero demand outside of scalpers

Re: #16
Honestly, if you're not into Nintendo at all, I wonder what games you've even been playing until now

I own both a PS5 and a Switch 2, and I don't get why anyone would pick the Switch 2 version when buying a third-party title that's out on both
The PS5 has faster load times, better visuals, an easier-to-use controller, and better sound too!

Re: #106
I'm Japanese, so a console that uses × for "confirm" creeps me out — I'll stick with the Switch 2 (on PlayStation, Japanese releases traditionally use ○ to confirm and × to cancel; the global/Western convention swaps the two)

Re: #106
Probably because it's portable
Though honestly, lugging around a Switch that heavy to play outside is tiring too
And it strains your eyes

Just the act of turning on a PS5 is a hassle

Re: #297
I wonder how many of those are actually PS exclusives
311AnonymousOct 24, 2026 11:17
Re: #309
Why does it need to be exclusive?
312AnonymousOct 24, 2026 11:18
Re: #311
Don't you get it — people say "just play it on Switch or PC" precisely because there are no exclusive games
368AnonymousOct 24, 2026 11:52
Re: #311
If it's not exclusive, you're better off with a PC for the best possible experience, or a Switch for the added bonus of handheld mode
There's no reason it has to be a PlayStation
341AnonymousOct 24, 2026 11:31
They keep saying "it's in its 5th year, 6th year," but conveniently forget it's been less than a year since Japan got a nearly ¥20,000 price cut, lol
347AnonymousOct 24, 2026 11:35
Re: #341
Overseas, the PS5 is simply the best-selling console as-is, so there was no need for a price cut. In Japan, the Switch 2 was priced cheaper than it is overseas, so Sony just did the same thing with the PS5. The result was only a 10,000-unit gap — and remember, the Switch 2 is in year 2 while the PS5 is in year 6

Re: #347
Yeah, down to four digits (5ch jab mocking weekly sales low enough to only have four digits)
Getting overtaken is just a matter of time now
And the PS5 doesn't even have any decent games
437AnonymousOct 24, 2026 12:51
What Ijiuin is really saying, at its core, is that "the PS5 has no use"
Just like back in the PS3 days, even if Sony ships him a free console, that won't fix this
438AnonymousOct 24, 2026 12:52
Re: #437
It's something that's been said over and over
Even streamers who aren't angling for sponsorship deals have been saying it honestly for ages

I mean it's not even "at its core" lol
He's just saying it outright lmao

If you've got a PC, there's really nothing left to do with it — can't help that

Re: #455
I see this argument thrown around a lot, but what's the actual logic behind it?
731AnonymousOct 24, 2026 20:15
People say a gaming PC beats a PlayStation
But if you're buying a gaming PC just for games
what else are you gonna use that high-end PC for, besides gaming?
Does buying one suddenly make you discover a bunch of non-gaming hobbies?
You're not going to use it for anything else
A gaming fan buying a gaming PC for gaming
getting the ability to also do non-gaming stuff
isn't actually any kind of advantage
735AnonymousOct 24, 2026 20:22
Re: #731
It absolutely is an advantage
Even in the extreme case where there's nothing you want to do besides gaming right now, a PC still easily wins out

It's simply that when you get tired of gaming or want to do something else, the option to "do it" exists
Because a PS5 has nothing to offer in that moment — it just becomes a glorified paperweight

you'd fly with them even if you didn't need to, right?

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Sony has not officially announced a price for the PS6, and the “¥150,000–160,000” theory that stirred up the thread is nothing more than a social-media guess, extrapolated backward from current parts pricing. Ijiuin Hikaru’s comments aren’t leaked info about the next-gen console either — they’re a consumer’s gut take, born from the fact that he barely uses his current PS5: “if you’re not going to use it, it doesn’t matter how expensive it is.” What split the thread was whether a console’s value should be measured by its exclusive titles, or by added value like portability and PC versatility. There’s also a Japan-specific wrinkle: some comments compare price cuts without accounting for the fact that the PS5 is in its 6th year on the market while the Switch 2 is only in its 2nd, which makes simple unit-sales comparisons risky. The point readers could easily misread is that this isn’t news confirming an actual PS6 price — it’s still squarely in the realm of rumor and personal opinion.
