Foreign Media Flags 0.13-Second Input Lag in Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Switch 2

The story

Foreign tech-analysis outlet Digital Foundry reported that Capcom’s open-world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 has 0.13 seconds (8 frames) of input lag on the Switch 2. The same article also pointed out reduced vegetation density, simplified screen-space reflections, and frequent pop-in. In the resulting 5ch thread, comparisons were drawn to figures from the same outlet’s testing of Stellar Blade on Switch 2 (19 frames of lag) and Portal on Switch 2 (4 frames of lag), sparking debate over whether the lag stems from the Switch 2’s hardware limitations or is a problem specific to its frame-generation feature.

Switch 2’s Dragon’s Dogma is in really rough shape

0.13 seconds (8 frames) of lag

The simplified lighting looks flat, especially noticeable in indoor areas and hubs. The Switch 2 version also shows reduced vegetation density, simplified ground clutter, lower-resolution screen-space reflections, and fewer shadow-casting lights. Pop-in — where characters suddenly appear just a few meters away — also remains an issue.

8 frames of lag? That's insane.
Laggier than cloud gaming.
3AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:55
🐷<WAAAAAAAAAAH💢 (the pig emoji mocks crying Nintendo fanboys)
4AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:55
Wait, I thought it meant 8ms… it's actually 8 frames?!
5AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:56
Switch fanboy: "Portal only has 4 frames of lag! Stellar Blade on Switch 2 has less lag!"

Capcom: "Dragon's Dogma has 8 frames of lag."
Shift Up: "Stellar Blade has 19 frames of lag."

Re: #5
Dude, isn't that hardware just way too underpowered?
6AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:56
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah (´・ω・`)
8AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:56
But the PS version has a low Metascore and freezes too, doesn't it?
10AnonymousOct 13, 2026 13:58
The Pro's graphics are garbage too — PC's been the only real choice for ages.
13AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:01
Wilds has 6 frames of lag on every platform, so isn't this just par for the course for Capcom?
14AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:01
Convert it to 30fps and it's only 4 frames of lag (nervous laughter)
18AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:05
Honestly not confident I could even tell the difference (´・ω・`)
19AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:05
Smash Bros online matches run close to 10 frames of lag even at best, apparently
If you're a Nintendo user you probably wouldn't even notice, right?
21AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:06
LMAO this is garbage
It's just a low-spec thing 😂
24AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:07
Anyone playing this on anything but PC is an idiot
Both the graphics and framerate blow consoles out of the water
25AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:07
They'll just brand Capcom an anti-Nintendo developer and write it off, so no problem.
26AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:07
This is what happens when crappy low-spec hardware tries to use frame generation.
28AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:09
Re: #1
Wasn't the Switch 2 version's Metascore pretty high though?
29AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:10
For a game like this it's not a big deal at all
It's not game-breaking like GTA running at 30fps
31AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:13
Well, the only ones still playing on "Oinktendo Switch" (mocking nickname for Switch, from slang that paints Nintendo fans as pigs) are old geezer diehards anyway, so it's fine.
42AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:35
I've played both the Xbox and Switch 2 versions and honestly don't notice any difference at all…
46AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:45
Re: #42
Maybe you just don't pay attention to things normally
This is purely about specs
It's a numbers thing

🐷"I didn't notice!!" (mocking pig emoji aimed at Nintendo fans) — that kind of comment is beside the point

You should work on your observation skills
Sounds like the type who overlooks plenty, like in-game medals too
50AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:48
Re: #42
Apparently it depends on whether frame generation is actually being used
If it's not, the lag probably isn't that bad
52AnonymousOct 13, 2026 14:59
Overall it's actually pretty complimentary

Credit should go to the dev team for squeezing a demanding open-world RPG like this onto Switch 2 hardware at all. Previous console versions got multiple patches that brought major improvements, so hopefully Capcom gives this version — which could still turn into a great Switch 2 release — that same kind of care.
53AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:02
Which is better — playing the PS5 version on a PS Portal?
I play on a monitor too, so I'm torn between that and the Switch 2 version.
55AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:03
Re: #53
The Switch 2 version is better.
58AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:10
Re: #53
If you already have it, playing the PS5 version natively is the better call
The Portal actually has more lag than what's in this thread title
If you specifically want handheld mode, Switch 2 is your only option
That said, if you already own a Portal, that works fine too
It's not really the kind of game you need to take seriously anyway
97AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:31
Re: #53
If you own a Portal, the PS5 version is the only choice
It gets better battery life than the Switch 2, and you won't have to worry about blurry, choppy visuals
54AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:03
Re: #50
The lag thing might be true, but
Digital Foundry trashes every other mode too

It's just excessive negative campaigning, honestly — they've been pretty bad lately
57AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:06
Re: #54
If you actually read the article, they're praising Capcom's dev team for somehow getting this kind of open-world game running at all on low-spec Switch 2 hardware
61AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:18
Did anyone actually bring up the lag issue in their reviews?
Those Digital Foundry jerks just hate frame generation, don't they lol
66AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:33
Re: #61
On Metacritic, the only reviews for the Switch 2 version come from Nintendo-focused sites

The big general outlets reviewed the PS5 and PC versions
70AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:38
The fact that it's being singled out means the Switch 2's lag is especially bad
If PS5 were just as bad, they'd call it out for PS5 too
Since they don't, it must not be as bad as the Switch 2
74AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:46
Re: #70
From a PC perspective, both are garbage when it comes to lag
It's like being asked whether you'd rather date a 50-point ugly person or a 30-point ugly person — normally you'd say no to both
80AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:58
Only making a fuss about it after Digital Foundry said something is pretty lame
84AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:04
Re: #80
People have been saying since the Stellar Blade demo that Switch 2's frame generation has terrible ghosting and lag, though?
91AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:35
Console peasants won't notice, so no problem there
Judging by X, everyone at the Wilds Switch 2 hands-on event was just blindly saying 'graphics and performance felt identical to PS5 and PC!' 😄
98AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:33
Re: #91
Console peasants think PS graphics are good in the first place
Consoles are equally garbage on both graphics and lag lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Frame lag” refers to the number of frames between an input and its appearance on screen; 8 frames works out to roughly 0.13 seconds at 60fps. The comparison figures raised in the thread — Stellar Blade (19 frames) and Portal (4 frames) — come from the same outlet, Digital Foundry, measuring various Switch 2 titles, and all are reported specifically as lag tied to the use of frame generation (frame interpolation). The point of contention was whether this lag is “a flaw unique to the Switch 2 version” or “something inherent to console ports in general, or to frame-generation technology itself” — the comment about Monster Hunter Wilds having lag on every platform fits into that context. It’s also worth noting that while the article is harsh about the simplified graphics, it simultaneously praises the development effort behind squeezing a major open-world title onto low-spec hardware — so it isn’t a simple one-sided takedown.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “Digital Foundry: “Switch 2’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a laggy mess with 0.13 seconds (8 frames) of delay”“.
