The story

On the TBS broadcast of “All-Star Thanksgiving Festival ’26 Autumn: 70th Broadcast Anniversary Special” on October 10, the show’s regular segment, the “Akasaka 5-chome Mini Marathon,” was held, and NMB48’s Makoto Sakashita took the win. Her victory reportedly marks the first time in 25 years that a female participant has won.

On the thread, posters expressed surprise that she ran the whole course without ever looking like she was struggling, with some speculating she must have marathon experience given she was wearing Adidas racing shoes. Others pointed out that Sakashita had actually been the top female finisher two events ago as well, while some gave a play-by-play of how Ito, who closed the gap near the end, stumbled and missed out on second place. The discussion also touched on how well the handicap system was set and how much it added to the show’s excitement.

I haven't kept up with NMB48 (the "48" idol group based in Namba, Osaka) since Saya-nee and Mirukii.

Re: #12
Wasn't the person in the "I'm going this way" photo from NMB?
Also Shibuya.
13AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:42
Cute 🩷 I think I'm falling for her.
14AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:43
She's cute.
NMB — isn't that the group Sayaka Yamamoto used to be in?
17AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:43
She started 8 minutes 40 seconds behind and won by 8 seconds — nice handicap.
31AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:47
Re: #17
That's true for Sato, but…
what about the handicap against the other runners…
22AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:45
Running the whole way without ever making a pained face, staying cute the entire time — that's what you call an idol.
26AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:45
She was really fast — does she have marathon experience?
40AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:53
Re: #26
I think she ran the Osaka Marathon in around 4 hours 10 minutes.
I remember because that's about my time too.
27AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:46
If it's on TVer (Japan's catch-up streaming service), I might check it out.
29AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:46
The handicaps were perfectly set this year, made it fun to watch.
Sakashita really gave it her all too.
30AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:47
She's got that TBS female-announcer kind of face.
33AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:47
Impressive that her pace never dropped, right to the end.
34AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:48
They never get tired of running this segment lol
35AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:48
Her face is cute, but she hasn't really broken through yet.
Will this be what finally gets her noticed?
36AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:49
Didn't realize NMB was still around.

Re: #1
Re: #36
These days Kion Shiozuki is about the only one in NMB whose face and name I can even place…
41AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:53
Huh, didn't know there was such a cute girl in the group.
Also, she's wearing Adidas racing shoes, so she's probably not a total beginner.
42AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:54
Apparently Wakako cried because there were so many participants this time.
60AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:59
Re: #42
If you're a celebrity, you probably want to run that hill at least once, and this time there really were a lot of participants lol
If I got offered a slot on the 24-hour or 27-hour charity TV show, I'd want to do it too, but without some kind of hardship story you'd never get picked for the 24-hour one lol
45AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:55
The AKB girl probably thought she had the celebrity top spot locked up.
56AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:59
Re: #45
No, Sakashita was already the top woman two events ago, so Ito must have known that going in.
48AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:56
Who was the female winner 25 years ago?
Lidia Șimon?
49AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:56
The camera work was incredible.
Genuinely moved me.
51AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:56
The way she turned at the halfway point — you could tell she wasn't just some amateur.
55AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:58
Re: #51
I bet she made some weird promise on a fan site or something.
After Ito closed the gap, her legs started tangling up on the last three turns and she had to ease off.
52AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:57
Ito must be gutted.
She closed it to 6 seconds on the uphill stretch,
but pushed her cadence too hard and ended up missing even second place.
57AnonymousOct 10, 2026 21:59
I didn't watch it so I can't say for sure, but is it really okay for the show when a practically unknown girl wins without reading the room?
63AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:00
Re: #57
Judging by the TVAL numbers (a TV audience-engagement rating), this segment was way out ahead of everything else — so yeah, it was fine.
64AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:00
Re: #57
She's delivered results before and has been appearing in this every year since, so the staff surely saw this coming.
69AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:02
Re: #57
As for Sano from OWV, who's won this before — unless you already know how many idols are named Sano among the younger idol crowd, you probably wouldn't recognize him.
65AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:01
SASUKE (the obstacle-course show) has turned into a promo spot for female idols too, so it feels like we'll see more female idols seriously training for this marathon as well.
75AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:04
Re: #65
People who become idols are probably athletic to begin with, but even people with no athletic ability can go at their own pace, so I bet quite a few of them genuinely like marathon running.
86AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:09
Re: #65
Glad we're finally getting idols who can actually clear the "Sorisou Kabe" (SASUKE's famous curved wall obstacle).
72AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:03
Re: #69
Sano Yuto → M!LK
Sano Akiya → Aぇ! group
Sano Reo → GENERATIONS
Sano Yudai → INI
Sano Fumiya → OWV
Sano Akinori → MAZZEL
Sano Shiro → Fuyuhiko-san (his famous TV drama character)
76AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:05
Re: #72
Sano Asao → Mito Komon
84AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:07
A marathon boom among idols… guess Morning Musume's movie "Pinch Runner" was just ahead of its time.
90AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:12
Re: #84
If it's actual running, it does seem like something that could catch on among idols — great for raising your profile, and it'd probably mean more appearances at local citizen marathons too. But turning it into a drama or movie would probably just flop lol
This is exactly the kind of thing that needs to stay real.
87AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:09
Who was it 25 years ago?
91AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:12
Re: #87
Marathon runner Mari Tanigawa.

Background and key points of this topic

The “Akasaka 5-chome Mini Marathon” is a signature segment of the All-Star Thanksgiving Festival, where contestants start with handicaps based on past records and race out and back along Akasaka’s hilly streets to compete on time gaps. This time, the headline point was that it marked “the first female winner in 25 years,” but on the thread, multiple theories circulated about who that female winner was 25 years ago — including “Mari Tanigawa” and “Lidia Șimon” — without a definitive answer confirmed in the article itself. Several posters speculated she must have marathon experience, pointing to her Adidas racing shoes and her turnaround form, though there’s no direct quote from her confirming this. It was also pointed out that Sakashita had already been the top female finisher two events prior, suggesting this wasn’t a one-off but part of a continuing streak. Some comments lamented NMB48’s declining media exposure in recent years, reflecting the group’s generational turnover and shifting visibility.
