Giants on the Brink After 4th Straight CS Loss to DeNA, Fan Frustration Boils Over Foreign Batter

The story

The Yomiuri Giants are currently on the brink, having lost to the DeNA BayStars in the Climax Series First Stage. In the 9th inning, reliever Martinez surrendered a go-ahead home run to Doai, and gutsy performances from Oshiro and Inoue weren’t enough to save the game. On 5ch’s Giants thread, fans reacted to this season’s struggles with a flood of proposals for offseason roster cuts and trades, with opinions especially divided over the future of slumping foreign batter Dalbeck and criticism of him chewing gum during a memorial-game ceremony.

There's no room to cut Dalbeck
He's obviously staying
5AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:50
Is 'P-n-d' gonna be manager next year? (garbled/censored nickname, unclear who's meant)
Guess he's getting executed at MAZDA Stadium again
7AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:51
Tokoda will probably have a comfortable time at Orix, Sakakura at Lotte. Morishita could still do plenty in the Pacific League too — if he goes to MLB, depending on the contract he could be done fast, and he'd only be able to land somewhere like Chunichi anyway, so nothing would really change from now
11AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:53
If our front office had any sense, they'd already have signed a foreign hitter better than Dalbeck by now
12AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:53
Seriously, if we gave up Taisei, Kishida, and Kadowaki, I wonder what the Tigers would give us back (珍 = derogatory 5ch nickname for the Hanshin Tigers)
13AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:54
Honestly, don't need Dalbeck
Don't want to see him at all anymore
15AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:54
Abe (manager): "Hello? This is Abe. Boss, can we get Yamakawa?"
26AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:03
Re: #15
If he were still active, he'd probably actually say that
20AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:59
Dalbeck's got 81 RBIs, you know
And even bouncing between 1B and 3B defensively, he handles it fine
The only issue is he always looks so sad, like living in Japan is rough on him
21AnonymousOct 10, 2026 22:59
Well, his image is worse than his stats suggest
Might be because his predecessor was Okamoto, though
24AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:01
You guys might not like this, but Kim Do-yeon, who played for Team Korea in the 2026 WBC
If we could actually sign him, I'd recommend it
45AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:31
Re: #24
He'd probably get poached by MLB in two years though
25AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:02
Today's pitching scapegoat is obvious, but on offense the one to blame is clearly Dalbeck
If you're gonna say we don't need Raidel (Martinez), we need Dalbeck even less
A guy who can't hit in a game like this is useless
27AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:03
Yamakawa could seriously get traded lol
28AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:04
We'll give you Richard, you give us Yamakawa
Our team needs a 'ketsu-ana' and a 'gashiman' (crude, obscure 5ch slang — exact meaning unclear even to native readers)
29AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:06
Yeah, foreign batters should be righties
Lefties are way too much of a gamble (lit. 'gacha', like a slot-machine draw)
30AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:06
If we're getting Yamakawa, I want us to grab Kozono too
Lol
31AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:07
There's just nobody who can replace Dalbeck
32AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:08
Maybe we should pick up Bright too…
33AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:09
NHK's 9 o'clock news ran a segment on 'oshikatsu' (fan-support culture), and the Hiroshima Carp came up in it — was that on purpose?
34AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:09
Chewing gum during the ceremony is just plain weird
35AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:09
Wasn't Yamakawa traded to SoftBank or something?
36AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:09
We also need Hazuki's defense, speed, and upbeat personality!
37AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:10
Losing a memorial game without even touching third base is pretty messed up too
43AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:26
Not trying to trash the guy, but taking ¥1.2 billion and then saying 'I'm not the Iron Man'… that's not it
Just carry yourself with some pride
And close out the game
44AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:27
Who cares about some gum
What do you even expect from a pro ballplayer
Well, 'Tsunidora' (player nickname) can't give his fans what they want anyway, so I guess it is what it is
46AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:34
If you're gonna pay ¥1.2 billion, you'd be better off giving that to Yoshida
47AnonymousOct 10, 2026 23:35
¥1.2 billion for a closer is terrible value

Background and Key Points of Debate

The Climax Series (CS) is NPB’s postseason format in which the top three regular-season finishers compete, and because the host team in the First Stage holds a one-win advantage in this short series, a single loss carries heavy weight. Thread opinion split over how to handle slumping foreign batter Dalbeck, with some praising his ability to handle defense competently and others criticizing his inability to deliver hits in clutch moments. There was also criticism of him chewing gum during a memorial-game ceremony, though the posts don’t address his actual intent or any explanation from the team, so this remains speculation. Talk also turned to offseason roster cuts and active-roster registration numbers, but these are routine procedures every team goes through annually, and there’s no guarantee the individual predictions floated in the thread will actually happen.
