The story
On episode 36 of the radio show “Koji10,” released October 5, director Hideo Kojima spoke about his new horror title “OD,” currently in development. “OD” was announced in 2023 as a Microsoft-backed project, and while some cast members and teaser footage have already been revealed, most of the game’s content remains unknown — Kojima reportedly stated his policy is to “stay quiet and keep it a mystery” for now. On 5ch’s console-war (gaming industry) board, opinions were split over whether this is a repeat of the free-demo strategy that made “P.T.” such a sensation, or simply a sign that the budget or production is running behind schedule. Some pointed out that filming won’t even start until the end of the year, and that the SAG-AFTRA strike over motion-capture actors may be a factor.
Hideo Kojima, director at Kojima Productions, commented on his new horror title “OD,” currently in development, during episode 36 of “Koji10: Hideo Kojima’s ‘Let’s Make It the Best 10 O’Clock,’” released on October 5.
“Koji10” is a radio show that aired on TBS Radio. A year after Season 2 ended, episode 36 was released as a one-night-only revival episode on YouTube and other platforms.
During the show, Kojima also touched on his new horror game “OD,” among other topics. “OD” was announced in 2023, but with only some cast members, screenshots, and teaser footage revealed so far, it remains shrouded in mystery.

What people said
That one also disguised itself as an obscure indie game and suddenly dropped a demo out of nowhere — you couldn't even clear it without players pooling info online, and it blew up massively because of that.
P.T. was free though, wasn't it.
If this is a paid game, people will have to pay money just to play it, so it won't work the same way.
Wasn't "Silent Hills" cancelled because they poured too much money and time into making P.T. in the first place?
They made a free teaser packed with promotion for the real project, it got rave reviews, and then about six months later the real project got cancelled — that's some dark history right there.
That was just a scam to sell PS5s.
Well, 'Bodycam' did actually come out… lol
Honestly, going by the footage and images that have leaked out, there's a real chance it's basically just P.T. all over again.
It was originally a Google project, you know.
Come on, at least read the Japanese properly.
Development on Death Stranding 2 wrapped up around the middle of last year, and work on this started after that, so probably around 2028 — or next year at the earliest.
Can't really help that — there was the actors' union strike.
It's not like you can't make a game without using actors, and yet he's still waiting it out just to use them — that's impressive in its own way.
For better or worse.
From years of watching this stuff, what actually helps sell a game on Steam is getting piled up with wishlist adds and staying on people's radar.
The method is simple: put out a good trailer, 'keep the Steam store page up for a long time,' and just let it sit.
Wishlist adds accumulate over the years.
Almost all the top games on SteamDB's current wishlist rankings are games that have had a store page up for years.
He's just not oversharing the game's content — they'll still promote it.
How do you promote something while staying silent and keeping it a mystery?
Just posters?
There are plenty of ways to do it without fully showing off the content — like giving a hint of the story, or just touching on the basics.
it felt like he was holding back, like 'I think that's enough for now,'
but it later turned out that was just because there wasn't much substance left worth showing.
Yeah, you really do want a minigame at every stop, lol.
'Staying quiet,' sure,
but VTuber let's-plays are totally allowed, nnnhh~ (an exaggerated moan-like sound VTuber fans use to express excitement)
Wait, we're talking about not wanting to reveal info before release, and you're bringing up streams after release?
PHYSINT is still in pre-production (the preparation stage), so nothing's been made yet for that one, but OD already finished motion capture and even put out a gameplay teaser last year, so it's not accurate to say nothing's been made.
All the flashy promotion and events up to now were being funded by Sony.
This guy's whole approach has been selling games through that kind of spectacle, so it's going to be rough once he can't do that anymore.
Even Death Stranding, which had Sony babysitting it, ended up like that.
Does OD even have anything to do with Sony?
Wasn't OD a Microsoft collaboration from the start?
It's kind of funny if you thought Sony's money (from PHYSINT) was going to fund OD's promotion.
Motion capture shoots normally use actors who specialize in mocap work.
The strike in question was specifically a strike by those kinds of actors who work in the game industry.
There are probably a lot of still-unannounced titles, but I'd bet other publishers' games that had mocap shoots scheduled around the same time are also quietly adjusting their release plans behind the scenes.
Conversely, do you think an American actor could perform a Japanese character's motion without it feeling off?
Do you think there's no cultural difference, or that acting alone can bridge it?
To anyone who's actually looked into the situation, this just makes you look like someone who nitpicks for the sake of it.
so I'd guess it's taking the idea behind 'Siren: New Translation' even further.
Of course Sony wouldn't get it — they're the ones who completely ignored the concept and just slapped out a packaged compilation release.
I think he said it would make use of the cloud, but I don't think he actually said Game Pass.
He's not saying he won't do any promotion at all, though.
Background and Key Points of Discussion
“OD” is a new Microsoft-backed title announced at a 2023 Xbox event, with a funding structure different from the Sony-led “Death Stranding.” The thread’s central debate was whether Kojima’s secrecy this time follows the same playbook as his past stunt with the free demo “P.T.” at the PlayStation Experience — which became a massive buzz-generating success — or whether it’s simply a sign that the budget or production schedule has fallen behind. The fact that filming won’t even begin until the end of the year has also been linked to the effects of the SAG-AFTRA strike over AI protections (2024–2025), which affected actors’ motion-capture shoots, suggesting broader industry-wide circumstances may be at play rather than a simple production delay. Opinions aren’t unanimous on whether a drip-feed information strategy is even effective, either — some argue that early trailer releases and long-term store page exposure are what actually boost Steam wishlist numbers.
