The story

Director Hideo Kojima made a surprise appearance at XBOX Fanfest Tokyo, and new visuals along with additional cast members for his upcoming title “PHYSINT” were revealed on X (formerly Twitter). On the 5ch “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board, opinions were divided: some were frustrated that no actual gameplay footage was shown, with the reveal limited to live-action visuals and cast announcements; others debated the merits of using live-action actors as a directing technique; and still others speculated about Xbox’s exclusivity strategy and the rollout of the Switch 2.

That's all from the scene, back to you in the studio (a stock sign-off phrase from TV field reporters, used here as a joke).

There's just no aura to it.

Re: #2
Nice one, flip-flop hater, lolololol
What's done is done, pal, lolololol (lit. "spilled water won't return to the tray")

They're ramping up exclusivity from here on, so Forza Horizon 6 and Gears E-Day aren't coming to PS5, you know? Lol
Asha probably came all the way to Tokyo just to hear Kojima's grievances behind closed doors.
No way they'd put their own first-party titles on that platform after that, lol
So there you go, Mr. Barrier — nice try, lolololol

Re: #12
Even if they wanted to bring Gears out, it'd never get past CERO anyway lol (CERO: Japan's game ratings board)

If Microsoft can't see this through to the end and ends up kicking him out, they'll get engulfed in flames way worse than Sony's ever been.

Re: #14
Why would the people bashing Kojima right now suddenly turn around and start bashing Microsoft instead? Lol
If it happens a third time, that'll just mean Kojima gets bashed even harder lol
31AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:21
If Kojima brings a peace offering along the lines of admitting Death Stranding (nicknamed "the Barrier") barely sold at all, I guess we could grant him docking rights on the one true platform, Switch 2.

Re: #31
Before that happens, won't Sony want to recoup its development costs by bringing Death Stranding stuff to Switch 2 — maybe under the Bandai Namco label?

Doesn't feel like it has any aura at all

And yet this one actually got me excited

Re: #34
The moment I found out he was casting real-life actors, I couldn't get hyped for it at all.
Kojima's changed.
I really hate it when he uses real people as a way to dodge actually creating original characters.

What a wild event, bringing in some super-huge famous influencer and all.

Re: #35
Who's that?
Kind of feel bad for the fans who didn't get picked for this.
36AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:23
If we don't even get one screenshot of actual gameplay, we're just gonna forget about it.
Are they seriously going to keep doing a surprise appearance every year until the game actually comes out?

Re: #36
He only got as far as doing scans with Sony's equipment — nothing had actually progressed, which is why he got cut loose.
The fact that they didn't force him to delete the scan data is already a pretty generous concession.

Here's the cast we can announce so far for "PHYSINT." More amazing cast reveals are still to come — look forward to it! 🔥🔥🔥

Re: #49
Nah, this is basically a movie at this point lol
Is he even making a game? Lol
70AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:36
Re: #49
I want to hope for a gritty, macho spy game like the Snake days, but it's rough when it gets compared to that.
54AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:29
Yep, this is definitely gonna be a "movie game."
68AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:35
Re: #54
The die-hards who still defend MGS4 even though it has nearly 10 hours of cutscenes — longer than the actual playtime — aren't going to be fazed by a bit of movie footage.
Honestly, holding a Back to the Future 1-2-3 marathon would be more worthwhile.
55AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:31
It's not really the era anymore where a star-studded cast alone can pull in an audience.
63AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:32
Re: #55
Is this cast even "star-studded"? Never even heard of them.
65AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:33
Re: #60
Exactly — and that hypothetical "third time" would be the perfect excuse to bash the other platform.
75AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:36
Re: #65
I get why Sony would get bashed — like "how dare you toss aside the guy who kept giving us ammo to bash you with!"
But is there actually a reason for Microsoft to get bashed if they cut Kojima loose?
80AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:39
Re: #75
Even without a real reason, those people will just cook up some twisted logic to bash anyway… you'd think you'd have seen that plenty on Geha by now.
89AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:45
Re: #80
I get what you're saying, but at that point it's not even about Kojima anymore.

Actually, now would be the perfect time to troll:
"Oh, so you actually wanted that washed-up old has-been creator, huh, lol"
"Guess even the Xbox fanboys wanted to play Metal Gear after all, lol"
"Table scraps, lolololol"
something like that
91AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:46
Re: #89
Every Metal Gear except 4 has already come out on it, and even 4 just broke out of its "PlayStation prison" with this latest remaster…
Are you visiting from a parallel universe or something?
98AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:48
Re: #91
Oh, sorry — Metal Gear 2 was so bad I stopped following the series, my bad for not knowing.
96AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:47
This guy's really good at working the political angle, isn't he…
100AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:49
Re: #96
I don't think someone who's actually good at working the room gets dropped and then immediately fires off a tweet summoning his fan funnels (a Gundam reference for siccing your followers on people) lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

As background to this thread: there had previously been talk of a partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox, and with the outcome of that still unclear, his appearance at XBOX Fanfest Tokyo left many wondering “why is he standing on an Xbox stage now?” — and that confusion became the starting point for the discussion. The debate largely split into two focal points. One was how the new title “PHYSINT” was presented, with frustration that the reveal centered on live-action visuals and cast announcements while no actual gameplay footage was shown. The other was speculation over whether future development would be centered on Xbox or PlayStation. Opinions on the use of live-action actors were also split, with some welcoming it as an extension of the directing style honed in the “Metal Gear Solid” series, and others viewing it as an avoidance of creating original characters. The long development time, a byproduct of the project’s large scale, was also a topic of discussion, with the lack of further updates feeding the unease.
