The story
A thread appeared on 5ch’s Hello! Project board claiming Juice=Juice members average 162.1cm in height. Figures cited included Danbara Ruru at 164.5cm, Inoue Reon at 163cm, and Kudo Yua at 160.2cm — but since none of this is official, skeptics chimed in with “they’re just padding the numbers” and “it’s probably 1–2cm shorter in reality.” The thread also brought up a CanCam interview in which Ishiyama Sakura said the group’s “height and great proportions give them real stage presence,” underscoring how the tall-lineup strategy has become one of the group’s selling points. Discussion spread into comparisons with Korean idols’ heights and speculation about who’ll graduate next.
What people said
163cm Inoue Reon
160.2cm Kudo Yua
Any guy shorter than that basically doesn't get seen as "a man."
Is 174 not good enough? ( ´•ω•` )
If anything, once Hashisako — who was dragging the average down — graduates, they'll end up about the same.
Though FRUITS ZIPPER were in sneakers and Ishiyama was in heels, so…
They just had health checkups recently and I've seen a few members post the results on their blogs.
"Juice" (5ch slang for the group, lit. "broth") is just padding the numbers, and by a lot.

Q. If fans come to a Juice=Juice live show, what should they watch for — in the group as a whole, in you, and in each other?
Sakura: For the group as a whole, honestly, every part of the performance. It's not just that the singing is good — we've got so many seniors who are insanely good singers, so I just want people to simply enjoy the music. And because everyone's tall with great proportions, there's a real power to it — when all 11 of us line up side by side, the impact is just incredible. I really want people to pay attention to that.

They're succeeding with the tall-member strategy, so short members aren't getting in anymore
K-pop idols run a bit taller, averaging around 164cm
K-pop groups known for "great proportions" average around 168cm
If Juice were a K-pop group, they'd be on the smaller side
Average height of Korean high school freshmen: boys 173cm, girls 161.3cm… obesity rates rising, eyesight declining

rescene, Melon's #1 on 6/1, averages 160cm, so that's beside the point.
There's basically no upside to being short.
If they force in tall replacements, the singing ability will definitely take a hit.
Juice is actually in a tricky spot right now.
These days, core members mostly graduate around 27.
Ikuta went all the way to 28, so there's precedent for staying that long.
Rei and Ruru are still only 25 this year, so they've got three more years in them.
It's not a tricky spot at all.
There's no way Irie's that tall.
She's smaller than that.
If you recruit tall members for their looks, the singing tends to be pretty average.
Girls who are both tall and great singers are super rare, and there's not much reason for that kind of talent to bother joining Hello! Project anyway.
The first audition since Juice blew up is about to happen.
If anything, that's when the real talent will start coming in.
I had my company health checkup recently, and
my height was 155.1cm!!!!
I grew!!

This is Irie Risa!
I measured my height for the first time in a year!!
It went from 157.0cm to 157.7cm

Sakurachi < that's just margin of error… lol
If Juice were a K-pop group, they'd be a somewhat short one.
Today's #1 and #2 on Melon are both under 160cm.
This whole discussion is pointless.
26.3 =LOVE
25.9 FRUITS ZIPPER
25.1 CANDY TUNE
24.6 Cho Tokimeki Sendenbu
24.6 SWEET STEADY
23.8 ≠ME
23.0 CUTIE STREET
20.5 Juice=Juice
Average age doesn't matter here.
For a group with member turnover, what matters is the age of the oldest members.
Danbara and Inoue are next up to graduate.
Kudo, Irie, Kawashima, Ebata, Arisawa — those are the ones worth supporting.
Juice isn't just about looks — they've got real skill and charm too.
Of course Juice wins.
Ikuta Erina — 28
Ishida Ayumi — 27 years 11 months
Oda Sakura — 27 years 9 months
Takase Kurumi — 27 years 3 months
Fukumura Mizuki — 27 years 1 month
Current Hello! Project members (by age)
Oda Sakura — 27 years 6 months (scheduled to graduate)
Nonaka Miki — 26 years 11 months
Tanimoto Ami — 26 years 10 months
Hirai Miyo — 26 years 9 months
Kobayashi Honoka — 26 years 1 month
Satoyoshi Utano — 26 years 0 months
Ono Mizuho — 26 years 0 months
Danbara Ruru — 25 years 4 months
Inoue Reon — 25 years 2 months
Guess Ikuta was just the outlier.
The original members' songs are all high-pitched, so they need someone strong in the high register.
Hayashi and Kawashima are both strong in the high notes though. Kawashima's even good enough to be given high-note parts.
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
The height figures cited in the thread aren’t from any official announcement — they appear to be a patchwork of numbers pulled together from individual members’ own blog posts and similar sources. Indeed, members like Arisawa Ichika and Irie Risa have posted their health-checkup heights on their personal Ameba blogs, and it’s likely these scattered bits of information were combined to arrive at the “average of 162.1cm” figure. In recent years, Hello! Project’s push to assemble taller lineups has been a recurring talking point, and this thread was no exception, with posters comparing the numbers to Korean idol groups (whose averages run in the mid-160cm range). At the same time, some pointed out that prioritizing height can come at the expense of vocal ability, so this isn’t really something that can be settled by numbers alone. Worth keeping in mind that this is an unofficial, fan-compiled tally rather than anything official.
