The story

A thread on the Hello! Project board asked the “what if” question: what if Runo Yokaze, Mifuu Kawashima, Hana Goto, and Reina Uemura had joined Morning Musume.? Hello! Project has long split new members not just into Morning Musume. but across multiple groups like Juice=Juice and ANGERME, and the four members discussed here belong to the same generation, nicknamed the “Dekabo” cohort. Opinions in the thread were split — some said “Kawashima at least was essential for Musume,” while others argued “Morning Musume. isn’t the flagship group anymore, Juice=Juice is the center now, so it wouldn’t matter who joined.”

What people said

How did it come to this
2AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:28
I wanted to see a Morning Musume with Ayacho and Yukarin (nicknames for former members Ayaka Wada and Yuu Kikkawa)
3AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:29
Just stacking up aces doesn't automatically work, rookie
4AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:29
I think Kawashima ending up in Juice=Juice was the right call
5AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:29
This take would hold up if Morning were still the flagship
but now that it's fallen from that spot, meh, whatever
6AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:29
Yokaze at least should've gone to Morning
7AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:30
They can't enjoy developing rookies anymore
They just want instant results
That's what happens when you're no longer the flagship
There's no breathing room
8AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:31
Watching the Dekabo group left me going "hmm…" so maybe it's fine as is
Still, I think Kawashima alone was necessary
9AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:32
Since losing flagship status:
1. The infighting stopped
2. They started actually trying on their YouTube comments

There are upsides too

Re: #9
It's not that the vibe changed because Fukumura, Ikuta, and Makino quit — it changed because Juice=Juice became the top group in Hello! Project and Morning Musume. got demoted to a side group, that's all
10AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:32
I wanted the whole Dekabo cohort in Musume
Goto, Ebata, Yokaze, Okamura, Yonemura, Uemura
11AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:36
I get wanting Yokaze, Kawashima, and Goto, but I never really wanted Uemura in Musume.
I'd have wanted Yonemura in Musume over Uemura
Though for Uemura, I do think she'd have suited ANGERME or Juice better than Rosy
12AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:36
As long as Oda and Fukumura were around, whoever joined was just a backup dancer
14AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:42
If Koitara had joined, Getter Haru (nickname for a member named Haru) probably wouldn't have made it into Musume
16AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:47
Re: #14
Rairii too
17AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:47
Want Yonemura and Kitahara handling social media, and Saito too for the handsome-guy character
Also want the '07 generation — Yokaze, Kawashima, Tsutsui, and Matsumoto
18AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:48
I want Yokaze to finally transfer to Juice once Reiruru graduates
19AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:49
Goto got shoved into a group that didn't suit her and it crushed her
20AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:52
Still better than joining Musume and having to sing some goofy novelty song
21AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:55
Re: #15
That's because Sakurai and Yumigeta gave up fighting reality over their pointless pride
22AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:55
Re: #16
I think Sakurai would get in as the talk/MC member
These other ones can't really MC, can they
24AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:58
Re: #22
A sorry excuse for an MC member
23AnonymousSep 17, 2026 08:57
There might be plenty of people like this among Morning Musume fans
but Hello! Project fans in general didn't want this
31AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:03
Re: #23
To begin with, there's basically no one in Hello! Project fandom right now interested in anything besides Juice=Juice
If there were, tickets would be selling
26AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:02
Quit starting these fantasy threads every time and go get a job
27AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:02
Well, honestly, out of the Dekabo group Yumigeta is the one a notch below
Everyone else is ace-caliber
34AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:04
It's a shame they skipped bringing in ace-level trainees and are now just padding the numbers with trainees whose popularity is lukewarm at best
35AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:06
The value is in the group called Morning Musume. itself
not necessarily in any particular member
36AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:07
Those who never made it into Morning Musume. finish their idol careers without ever seeing the spotlight
39AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:09
Re: #36
That was true once
These days it's Juice
42AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:11
Juice=Juice's name recognition doesn't even compare to Musume's, it's not close
both at home and abroad
60AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:40
Re: #42
Does being currently active even factor into that name recognition?
46AnonymousSep 17, 2026 09:14
Juice fans ("shiru-ota") can only puff up their chests shouting on the Wolf board (a notoriously rowdy 5ch idol forum)
Don't look away from the reality that Morning Musume. is the one people all over the world actually know

Re: #46
Nobody outside the fandom can name a single current Musume member
Go ask your mom and see

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Hello! Project has long operated a system in which new members are assigned not only to Morning Musume. but also to other groups such as Juice=Juice, ANGERME, and Rosy Kuroki, with placement decided through auditions and trainee-era assignments. The “Dekabo” cohort mentioned in the thread refers to a set of agemates whose activities were announced together, and includes Hana Goto, Runo Yokaze, Mifuu Kawashima, and Reina Uemura. The debate centered on whether Morning Musume. still deserves to be called the “flagship” group: some argued that since Juice=Juice now leads in popularity and name recognition, “it wouldn’t make much difference who joined at this point,” while others expressed regret over the individual talents of members like Kawashima and Yokaze. Note that comparisons of singing and dancing ability in the thread reflect individual fans’ subjective opinions and shouldn’t be read as an objective assessment.
