The story

Fuji TV’s late-night variety show “Sashihara Chinatsu” has been canceled, ending in late September — just five months after it premiered this past April. The show had drawn attention even before its debut as the first-ever pairing of popular talents Sashihara Rino and Wakatsuki Chinatsu, so word is that even Fuji TV staff were stunned, saying “surely this isn’t happening.” On 5ch, discussion centered on the show’s low-budget feel and its reliance on Yoshimoto comedians as guests, as well as Wakatsuki Chinatsu’s assertive on-air personality and the story of her comeback after a career gap.

I'm watching it right now too
It's not so much boring as it just reeks of low budget

Isn't anyone saying it's a shame, since the show itself was actually decent?

Sashihara's pretty and Wakatsuki looks young too
Is it just good lighting?

You can tell it's just the cast and the concept — no money, no ideas behind it

There's no compliance issue here
They're just enemies of Fuji, that's all

The Fuji TV golden age was actually back when they were feuding with Livedoor — ratings triple crown and everything. Who knew they'd turn around and become TV Tokyo

Sashihara's mellowed out so she's fine, but I can't stand Wakatsuki's pushy vibe — it kills my motivation to watch

Wakatsuki never backs down even when someone pushes back at her, and she claps back for real instead of playing it for laughs — it's annoying

>she claps back for real instead of playing it for laughs — it's annoying

Totally get it
I watch Wakatsuki on Lovit, and I can't stand how she basically starts lecturing someone the second they react in a way she doesn't like
Going "hey, THAT'S exactly the problem!"
I do like Wakatsuki, but that part is hard to watch
78AnonymousSep 13, 2026 03:48
Wakatsuki clearly had a period where she was frozen out, right?
81AnonymousSep 13, 2026 03:51
Re: #78
She wasn't frozen out, she stepped back to raise her kids
She said she wondered if she could still hack it, asked someone for advice, and they told her "you'll be fine as long as you're loud"
So she tried it and said the comeback was easy

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Sashihara Chinatsu” was a Fuji TV late-night talk variety show that began this past April, drawing attention before it even aired as the first pairing of popular talents Sashihara Rino and Wakatsuki Chinatsu. The original article describes the reason for the cancellation as “embarrassing” but doesn’t specify what that reason actually was, and no mention of an official cancellation reason appears in the thread either. Opinion was mainly split over how to judge the show’s content — some criticized the production values and budget, while others felt the Sashihara–Wakatsuki pairing itself wasn’t a bad idea. Discussion also touched on Wakatsuki Chinatsu’s assertive on-air personality (which drew both love and hate) and her past career gap, but it’s worth noting these weren’t directly tied to the cancellation — they came up simply as personal opinions about the performers themselves.

※This article was excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geisoku Sokuho+) thread “[Fuji TV] Sashihara Rino & Wakatsuki Chinatsu’s new show ‘Sashihara Chinatsu’ abruptly canceled after just 5 months… staff stunned, say “surely this isn’t happening”.”
