Yuriwaka Daijin is a Japanese-flavored adaptation of the Odyssey, brought over by Portuguese missionaries.
I watched the dubbed version and it was really good. I think subs would work fine too.

It doesn't hurt to know the names of the major heroes, but you don't really need to memorize them. If the film stays faithful to the source material, anyone who reads light novels should find it an easy watch.
That one's called 'The Martian' (or 'The Man from Mars' in Japanese) — should've just kept that title.
They look complicated, but they're really just entertainment movies underneath.

Both Nolan and director Takashi Yamazaki will go down as masters, and the film geeks who mocked them will come to regret their own lack of insight.
I won't spitefully dig up what they said in the past, but when you catch yourself disliking a film, you should ask whether there's something other than pure artistic judgment behind it — jealousy, maybe.

A lot of people online had been boning up on the source material for about a month before release, but it sounds like you can enjoy it plenty without doing that homework.
It was shot entirely with IMAX cameras, so isn't there basically no point seeing it in theaters unless it's on an IMAX screen?
It's not being forced, it's an exclusive deal. Is this happening in Japan too, I wonder? Every IMAX slot at my local theater this week is playing 'The Odyssey.' In Japan, Spider-Man's release didn't overlap with Odyssey's so it could still get IMAX screens, but 'Dune' and 'Doomsday' are both landing around year-end — wonder how that'll shake out.
