8 is the game where things got so far gone near the end that I nearly gave up on finishing it — bitter memories.
If FF1 hadn't sold, it would've been 'final' for the company (Square, back then) — but it sold, so everything since has just been the sequel to that story.
That name alone gives me heartburn.
